Ashlyn (of Silvergrove) (Former) Job: Maid Age: 19 Appearance: Ashlyn is on the tall side for a woman. She has pale skin, since she spends most of her days inside cleaning stuff. She has long brown hair, which she usually keeps back in a braid, and light brown eyes. She wears a beat-up old dress that's a depressing shade of brown-gray (it was once blue). She is actually quite attractive underneath her layers of grime, knotted hair, and ratty clothes. Personality: Ashlyn is curious about everything, and always wants to draw what she sees, which often gets her into trouble. She tries to be discreet about this practice, but often fails. In most company she is very quiet, but she warms up to people that are more intelligent than the average rube. She has one personality, that of the poor maid who does what she's asked to all the time, very subservient. And the other is her normal personality, that she must fight to reign in at all times since she's not a man: headstrong, intelligent, and thirsty for more knowledge. Ashlyn speaks with a very distinctive (and relatively rare) accent that she inherited from her grandfather. It can be described in the terms of our world as Scottish brogue. She usually suppresses it, but when she is tired or drunk, or around those she trusts, she begins to speak in it. Specialties: Very smart, thanks to the tutelage of her Grandfather, and unlike most women of her time, she can read and write. She can also draw and paint quite well. She is also a veritable walking dictionary about all things magical, and legends and tales of old. As for fighting skills, she has none. She normally use her wits or things around her to distract or delay those after her... at least long enough for her to get away. She can run pretty fast when her life depends on it. Weaknesses: She does not have many skills that she can normally use in the presence of others, besides cleaning (she has to hide her intelligence, etc.). She is also not strong at all, and as such, is useless in a direct fight. History: Ashlyn was raised by her paternal grandfather (Aldan Blackwood), both her parents having died of some disease when she was only two years old. He lived during the tail end of the Magic Age, and had been a renowned and respected mage, albeit self-taught. He would often tuck Ashlyn in at night with stories of the strange and wonderful things to be found around the magic ley lines, stories of hideous beasts as big as a castle, of knights in shining armor and mages in flowing robes. Of flowers whose smell would entrance you to sleep forever, and glowing faeries not bigger than your pinky. As she grew older, he taught her how to read and write, so that she could read from his vast library on her own- his eyesight was failing and he feared he wouldn't last past her fifteenth birthday. He knew that society at large would consider this "wrong", but in his heart he knew it was right. Her radiant smile when she picked up a new book proved it. Still, he told her gravely, she must pretend that she was normal, that she was just a simple girl like all the rest when he died. Her very life depended on that, he said, and so reading must remain her secret. He died when she was sixteen, and although distraught, she knew what she must do. She had to pretend to be normal and get a job. (This was for practical reasons as well; her grandfather had been given a pension by the Queen while alive for past services and consultations, but that soon ran out.) She became a maid for a local nobleman, and for a while, everything went according to plan. And then came the dreams. Dreams straight from the books in her grandfather's house of wondrous things. She tried to forget, but as they came more powerfully and frequently, she could take it no longer. She quit her job as a maid, and, packing a bag with her grandfather's map of the magical ley lines, along with some other helpful books and food, she set off into the world. Her journey to find magic ended a little sooner than expected, because right outside of her small hamlet, Silvergrove, was a magic well. She knew so because of the odd flora on the perimeter of the forest, as well as the guards stationed conspicuously outside. Ashlyn snuck in after distracting the guards, and was just sketching an interesting flower, when one of the guards came running in straight for her. She panicked, and shouted, "Stop, no!!" flinging out her hand to protect herself. The guard turned to stone. Shocked, but, seeing that the other guard was coming, she managed to escape into the forest, and eventually made it back to the main road. Ashlyn knew that even if he got better, she was still in big trouble: she had broken two very big laws. She had attempted, if not succeeded in murdering a royal soldier, and she had illegally entered a magic well... She worried all the time about if the other soldier had seen her face. If he could remember her later. She continued her journey, and as time went on, she gradually relaxed. It seemed as if the terrible incident would just fade away into the past. One year later, though, it would all resurface... The remaining guard had been reassigned to Vaeron. Ashlyn ran into him in the Vaeron marketplace, along with several of his buddies. He was sure that Ashlyn was the one who had killed his friend, even though he had only gotten a glimpse of her face. She insisted that she was not who he was looking for, but the guard remained unconvinced. She cried out, fearing an attack, thinking it was the end of her journey, but... Inventory: Map of Ley Lines (Silvergrove well marked); a Magical Encyclopaedia written by her grandfather, with blank pages; crackers, jam, sausage, cheese; canteen of wine; telescope; sketchbook and pencils; a knife or two. Money. OOC:Her house, Blackwood House, is a cozy little hut up in the hills by Silvergrove. It's guarded by a magical seal cast by her grandfather while the occupant is away, and as such, is safe from any intrusion except forced entry by an extremely powerful wizard... and as there weren't many more powerful than her grandfather, the house isn't getting tampered with anytime soon. |

I assume she just wanders there sometime after this happens...? If we are going to just start at the beginning of the conflict (which I guess would mean you, boots, mo RPing with each other and christine and I roleplaying together until you finally get to the manor...?) then I guess it'd be good if you at least got her to Vaeron in the history. Mine actually goes through until (I guess) you're about to see Christine, just in case we decide to start later, or something.
Anyway, yeah, just put in how she gets to Vaeron and anything else, but otherwise... Approved! - The Administration |

Thanks! NB: Edited history, minor appearance details &etc. Gave her a Scottish accent (that is, when she is not suppressing it). She tries very hard to blend in with her surroundings so that no one will give her a hard time. |
