At length, Nenshoukaze stood, grabbed his katana from the long, slender bag and moved to join the young swordswoman. He was impressed by the force of her attacks, having seen very few in his lifetime who could wield such techniques. He also admired her general policy of not getting involved, as much as that was possible. He looked out to see several soldiers making their way into the city proper, and the lone Amatsu who clearly attempted to defend the gate by his lonesome. Kaze sighed, shaking his head in dissappointment, though somehow he wasn't surprised.

Nenshoukaze was also not suprised by the proposition of corruption in Kyouto. This was a place where the strong ate the weak, only to be swallowed themselves the next day by someone stronger. However, he never imagined such an assault on such a place. Though he felt a need to do something, if only to find the residential district and defend those who could not defend themselves, he also felt somehow he would be fighting a war whose reasons he did not know.

"I haven't a theory, just another question," said the swordsman calmly, though his voice reflected confusion. "What is the purpose behind this attack? Surely any sort of war between Lords could be fought somewhere where innocents needn't be involved."

Ushio, who had turned to look at Nenshoukaze, shruged, slipping her arms into the large sleeves of her kimono. With a sigh the woman blinked slowly, watching the violence unfold. "To prove something." she said flatly. Ushio, throughout her 21 years of living, had seen many displays of this sort of fashion. She raised her left foot and tapped the toes of her geta on the ground twice, repeating the same action with her right foot. "All of them just want to show off what little (or no) skill they have, and rush blindly into battle. It doesn't matter." she said matter-of-factly, turning her back from the scene of Amatsu's fight.

"They'll all die anyway."

Amatsu turned abruptly as he allowed his long blade to smoothly slice an opponent in two, catching gaze of the two warriors, Ushio and Nenshoukaze, only to turn again and head towards the group of foes that were assaulting the other gate.

"Here it is, they rather sit back and watch the people die and not help? Such sickness!" The black samurai thought to himself, letting a blood-curdling warcry escape his domain as he jumped into the air; his arms and blade raised over his head as a faint blue glow came to his blade. At the climax of his leap, he swung the sword down heavily, allowing it to smash into the surface of the road, sending out a wave of air that knocked the group of enemies to their backs. When the smoke cleared of his devastating, yet somewhat less lethal technique, he stood straight and rested his blade at his side; seeing that the men had already turned tail, and retreated.

"Maybe this isn't worth it..." A troubled expression came to his face, his optics becoming blank in his trance. He turned around once again to view the isolated warriors, then back to his fellow men.

"...I better find that gatesman."[/color:10c40e1abd]

Lori noticed Amatsu looking around. "<He's most likely already left, using the confusion as a cover... but why don't I wake Jean up for this? He'll know what to do.>"

She trotted back into the restaurant, trashed by citizens in their hurry to leave. Jean was right where she had left him, and in one piece. Lori let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding, and dragged him out of the restaurant.

"<Rise and shine, Sherlock. We need you.>"
He nodded groggily, mumbled something, and fell back to sleep on the hard-packed dirt.
"Diable!! <Will someone help m...>"
Jean woke up, stood up, and surveyed the town. "<Actually, I was just pretending!>"
"<Well, you got me.>" Lori laughed. "<OK, now, we need to find the purpose for these attacks, and who's behind them... They call themselves the Crimson Tengus and...>" Lori went on the explain everything they had discussed.

"<Hmm, Ill need more clues than that!>"

Yuuki leapt into the air, and came down on another of the raiders, knocking him out cold.

"Too damn many of them..." he muttered, jumping off the still form and running again towards the assailed gate. The attackers had an army on the outside and the smaller group, at least 20, running to take down the guardsmen on the inside. If that gate fell, there would be a horde inside Kyoto, it would be harder to drive them away than just the few soldiers already inside. Three of the attackers stopped their run towards the gate and turned on Yuuki.

"Great..." he muttered. He leapt at them before they actually expected an attack and knocked one down. He turned immediately and brought his sword across in a slash.

Hearing the words of the two 'adventurers', the black samurai eyed the war scene. It had only been a matter of seconds when Amatsu finally caught sight of the gatesman. The foe was rushing through te crowd of many fighters and thugs, who were currently in opposition of one another. Quickly, the armor-clad samurai dashed at the traitor; swiftly having gained enough distance to strike at him. Amatsu jabbed out his vorpal blade between the escapee's legs, then with an agile slash parallel to the ground, the tip of the blade lopped the foot off of the gatesman. A clean cut.

Stumbling over his own stub, the traitor fell to the ground and cried out in pain as he held his leg up in an attempt to slow the blood-flow. It wouldn't do him any good, considering Amatsu was going to destroy him... With or without any information from him.

Amatsu clasped his hand onto the collar of the injured man, and shouted loudly at him; his voice sounding demonic from the furiousity of have this spineless worm in his clutches.

"Where is the commander scum!? If you don't speak," At his words, the samurai brought the tip of his long sword to the ground, the razor edge facing inward to the fallen enemy, and slowly began to move it towards his crotch in an attempt to psyche the man. But this was more than enough to make the gatesman talk, and quickly he spurted out in pain and anguish,

"He's located a day's west! He is! Just go! Leave me be! West! West I say!"

With a chaotic grin on his face, Amatsu nodded and whispered coldly to the man, "Thanks." With this, he quickly struck up his sword, and left the traitor in two gushing masses of flesh.

Shouting back to Jean and Lori, Amatsu announced the whereabouts, "Their leader is west of here! Cleanse the town, and we shall be on our way!" Turning around, he swiftly dashed back into the heat of battle, wildly and rapidly swinging his lengthy blade at the many foes that came at him.[/color:2f631aeea1]

Jean eyed the 'samurai' suspiciously. "<I feel it is prudent to leave a man alive when you have no reason to kill him. And I am sure neither I nor Lori feel the need to 'cleanse' the town, these men are only lackeys following orders.>"
He muttered, "<I'm not soft, if that's what you are wondering. I will play the hatchet-man to defend myself and others. Anyways, we go off to find the perpetrator with our only source of information dead.>"

"Bon aller, âne sourd-muet," Lori muttered, rubbing her temples. "<Whatever. He might have known something else.>"

"<Well, yeah. Why do you always summarize what I say? It's annoying."

"<WHAT?!?!?>"

"<Let's go already, Lori.>"

Lori yelled and intimidated her way through the crowd. Quite easy when you consider she was much larger than nearly all the attackers. She only had to shoot three of the bolder ones! After finally emerging from the tangle of sweaty man-flesh, Jean and Lori looked around.

"<Come on guys, push through the crowd!>" Lori yelled to the others.

OOC:Bon aller, âne sourd-muet = Nice going, dumb ass.

After having cleared a small group of the enemy, Amatsu turned about to find an arrow flying directly at him. Swiftly he brought up his sidearm, but to his dismay, he missed. The arrow tore through his eyeball, causing a small stream of yellowish-fluid, mixed with the crimson liquid of his blood to mix together, to gush from the newly created orifice. Falling to one knee from the pain that ran through his senses and brain, the samurai glanced up to see the archer. Gritting his teeth as he became drunk with rage, Amatsu rose and dashed swiftly towards the attacker; raising his sword up and slashing downwards to rid the foe of existence.

Suddenly, darkness.

No Sound.

No Sight.

Amatsu body fell lifelessly to the ground with a loud clammer, as one of the sneaky foes had sucessfully pierced the tip of their blade through Amatsu's cerebral cortex. The young samurai had finally fallen, and his unbroken weapon hit the ground with a shrill metallic 'ping'... The fallen who shall never see his conquest prevail in the name of his master.[/color:dca0b3e64b]

Nenshoukaze was becoming somewhat bored by this conflict. It was so random that there was no discernable purpose behind it. There was not a commander in sight, and the "soldiers" had no apparent target. They seemed to be little more than a random band of thugs, eager to slaughter and be slaughtered in return. And now, after at first attempting to counter-attack, everyone was generally trying to simply escape the battle! Everything was like a dream it was so unreal and unlikely. Kaze was awoken from his reverie, however, when an ambitious young soldier came at him, sword raised high. Rather halfheartedly, Nenshoukaze whipped his sword from its sheath in a manner reminiscent of a battou-jutsu. Though it didn't have nearly the power that a proper one would have, it was still enough to nearly slice the poor man in two.

"So," he said to the female samurai next to him, as though nothing had happened, "should we follow?"

Ushio, jumping slightly when Kaze spoke to her, folded her arms over her large bust and shrugged. "Probably not. It'd be a waste of time. I say we head towards Tokyo; things might be a little more interesting and less... troublesome if we head there. Besides, I hear there's good sake there, and well, who doesn't love some good sake?", Ushio finished with a smile. Sliding her sword through her obi, she folded her arms inside the front of her kimono and headed down the street. After a few steps, the woman paused and turned her head back towards Kaze. "I need to pick up some things at my house. 'll meet you at the town gate."

In a few minutes, Ushio had reached her small home and had begun locking away most of her valuables. Most people in town who would attempt to steal her things were deathly afraid of her, and so she didn't need to worry about her things. She packed various, expensive-looking kimono, a few less valuable kimono, a thin blanket or two, a few bottles of sake, and several intricate items of personal, sentimental value. All of this she managed to fit into a cylindrical bag which she slung over her shoulder. On the way out of her home, she secured the door and called out to one of her older female friends, asking her to watch over the house until she got back home. Finished with all of her 'business', Ushio turned towards the town gate and trotted towards it, leaning against the door elegantly as she waited for Kaze.

OOC: since there's been nothin' goin on for a while, and we want to start this back up...

Nenshoukaze, who had recently become somewhat more interested in the quiet life, perked up considerably at the suggestion. He agreed quite whole-heartedly, for he had certainly had more than enough bloodshed for one lifetime. Granted, he was not averse to shedding more blood if the need arose, but he always prefered not to, if at all possible. Guessing that he had plenty of time to get to the gate, the young swordsman decided to take the long way.

"If any of you lot wish to join us," Nenshoukaze said to his new acquaintances with a smile, "we'll be strolling along towards Tokyo. It's much too... busy here." With that, he began to walk around in small circles, shuffling through the residential district. He was glad to find only a few greedy or "hungry" soldiers loitering about, and wasted no time disarming them and knocking them unconscious with his saya or the flat side of his sword. He didn't linger with the grateful citizens, but offered them the downed opponent's weapon and whatever else he could -- he had little need for money, anyhow. When he finished, perhaps ten or fifteen minutes had elapsed. When he arrived at last at the gate, he was surprised to find Ushio waiting for him. It had been his experience that women took ages to pack. Nevertheless, he would not hold this against her, and bowed deeply from the waist.

"My most humble apologies for being late, my dear lady," he said with his eyes still facing the ground, though he was clearly still smiling.

"En fait, Jean," Lori turned around to face her husband. "<We should go with them. I mean, we shouldn't get ourselves in trouble we don't need in a foreign country. Remember what happened the last time we went to China?>"

"<What do you mean, trouble we don't need? Whoever was in charge of this attack may know about what we're looking for,>" he whispered back angrily.

"<Or they may not, and we'll get killed chasing after information these people don't have. I think we should wait. We could always go after them later--there will probably be more attacks, and they aren't exactly subtle.>"

Jean realized he couldn't win. "Je donne vers le haut," he sighed, shrugging.

"<Besides, Tokyo's the capital. Maybe we'll run into someone that'll know about the Blade.>"

"Ouais, droite," Jean sulked as he was dragged along by Lori towards the direction of the two Japanese they had drank sake with.

OOC:When they were in China, they got caught by Triad members looking around in a cave on property they owned... It was a close call, and Lori isn't eager to repeat the experience, especially because the cave had nothing in it, after all.

Ushio, her arms tucked in the front of her kimono, looked down at Kaze's bowed form and chuckled. "No need for such gestures, kid. Stand up; I don't need any of that chivalry crap. That stuff died out ages ago." She pushed herself off of the wall and stretched, yawning loudly. "Well, I guess we should-- Nn?" Ushio began speaking, but stopped mid-sentence when she saw the foreign couple from the restraunt headed their way. The swordswoman took a few steps toward them and waved lazily.

"You two looking to travel along with us?"

OOC:i remembered the name of my sword style, it was actually shiranui-ryu, i think

Yuuki surveyed the destruction around him. With relative calm he shook the blood from his blade and then sheathed it. While the style of Shiranui-ryu was that of Katsujin-ken, unlike a certain rurouni who wielded a sakabato, Yuuki did cause flesh wounds that acutually bled. But he never struck the killing blow. He did not see it as his right to end a life, to pass judgement on another so harshly.

He saw the others a distance away, and began making his way towards them.

"<Yes, we would like to travel with you, if that's alright,>" said Jean, bowing in the direction of the two Japanese people. "<You know your way around here.>"

"<And also,>" Lori added, "<You seem to attract all manners of excitement. With any luck, you'll also attract clues to what he's looking for, so we can find the damn thing and get the Hell outta here.>"

"<So... can you show us any places you know of that are mystial, or magical?>" Jean asked.

"<Always with the magic,>" Lori complained. "Toujours..."

OOC:Toujours= always
