Oh, and on the geography, I'm completely making it up. If there isn't a stream where I say it is, oh well :P I'm sure nobody cares, right? The sky is slightly overcast, but with small cracks here and there which allow the waning light of the sun to peek through. The light is dull and plain, as if tired of shining and instead deciding to lazily waft down from the heavens. A couple miles down the path from Kyoto, the woods are thick, and even less light is allowed to filter through the canopy, causing the area to appear several hours later than it actually is. Far away from the path, the trees widen out to make way for a small stream, trickling happily over the rocks towards its destination, wherever that may lie. Bent low over this stream is a man, his figure shrowded entirely in a large black cloak, the hood pulled down low over his face. His left, gloved hand is off to the side, holding in it the glove from the other hand; this other hand, his right hand reaches down into the water and scoops it up to his mouth. The man sips the water like this a few moments, then stands up and replaces the glove upon his right hand. His shoulders are slouched ever-so slightly, as if in an attempt to hide endless days of work in the fields. He turns calmly around to face a small gang of thugs. The four in the rear carry knives and other small, sharp implements. The one in the front, apparently the leader, carries a sheathed, shirasaya sword confidently in his left hand. This man wears a similarly confident grin upon his face; his eyes are wide open and seem to be smiling in themselves, as though he were looking upon a wooden chest filled to the brim with riches. The cloaked man does not even flinch, does not move a muscle, as he looks at this assortment of men. "Why throw away your lives so recklessly?" he says knowingly. His voice is cold, yet soft, strong and resounding. His demeanor is intimidating, despite his slightly sagging shoulders. "We'll see whose life is thrown away," the leader says, unsheathing his sword. The men behind him now also begin to grin, as though the voice of their leader alone would insure victory. "I, Takahashi, will be the one to destroy you, and take the enormous reward that is on your head for myself." The cloaked man remains silent, but shakes his head slightly. "Whatever." Takahashi lunges forward, his sword held expertly to the side in preparation for the strike. "Now, die!" he yells. He pulls his weapon forward, slicing horizontally at his opponent. The cloaked man takes a small step backwards, then whips the left side of his cloak upwards and at the blade. With precise timing, the man continues to drag the cloak along, pulling Takahashi's arm with it. He now pulls the cloak back down to his side, stepping in the opposite direction that Takahashi is now flying. With a discomforting smack, the leader skids off the ground and collides into the trunk of a nearby tree. Takahashi's men hesitate for a moment, unsure of what to do after seeing their leader thrown around like a sack of potatoes. They make a move to attack, but their leader stops them as he drags himself to his feet, using his sword like a crutch. "Lets see if you can do that again," Takahashi says weakly. He charges at the cloaked man once again, his sword held to the side. But this time, he drops down slightly, the pulls his blade diagonally upwards, to the left. Undaunted, the man steps back again, throwing his cloak out to smack the blade. This time however, he causes the cloak to twist around the blade, spinning around with it. When he faces Takahashi again, he stops and throws the edge of his cloak upwards, not even looking up as the man's sword flies up into the air. In a movement as fluid as the stream right behind him, he leaps into the air, grabbing the sword by its hilt, spinning laterally and landing gracefully on the other side of Takahashi. The man, now weaponless, scrambles to his feet, raising his fists in challenge. "You should have given up while you were ahead," the cloaked man says. "Now you must not only forfeit your sword, but your life." Takahashi's eyes glaze over, and he stops breathing. He blinks once, looking down to see a huge gash in his midsection. This was the last he saw, before plopping to the ground in two separate pieces. The cloaked man, now once again on the other side of Takahashi, cleans off the blood from the blade by slicing horizontally, then stopping it suddenly. He then lowers his weapon, and tosses it to Takahashi's men, who fumble out clumsily in their attempt to catch it without injuring themselves. "Go, and don't bother me again." The men were all too happy to oblige him. OOC: Yup. Here's a bit of insight into one part of this new character's style of fighting. I still have two more bits of it that I've worked out. Maybe we'll even get to see 'em at some point ;) I think boots already knows who this character is, but I don't believe I've told anyone his backstory. Of course, I'm not sure I've figured it out entirely for myself either ^.- |

A figure was coming down the road. He was wearing a hakama and a haori, which were colored black. He had a sword at his waist, and his bright red eyes surveyed the landscape. His unkempt black hair gave him a raggedy sort of look, but it did not reflect his fierceness. He could look as relaxed as a cat, but could still pounce like a tiger. He noticed a cloud of dust down the road. It looked like several men scrambling to get away from something. They were charging down the road, right towards him! He let his hand lie loosely on his sword, not going to use it unless he was given reason to. The men stopped when they came upon him. Takahashi's right hand man, Tsuku stepped forward. He grinned. This ragbag, he'll be easier to take than that other guy. "Step off our path, stranger, or we shall throw you off." he challenged. The man shook his head. "Lay one hand on me and this will be your last conversation. I will only kill you if you attempt to attack me." the man called back. Tsuku blanched. The last thing they needed was another man who could kick their asses left and right. "Err...w-well..." he stammered. Suddenly he thought of something. The man was trying to trick them. He couldn't do anything. Tsuku drew his sword and rushed the ragged man. The man blocked it and began to fight. He appeared to be having a hard time. Tsuku smiled. He began to get cocky. He put one hand behind his back. "Come on!" he taunted. "Surely a ragbag such as yourself can do better than that?" Suddenly, the man began to put more aggression into his strokes. Tsuku felt the shock waves up his arm and began to worry. He began to fight desparately. But it was not enough. In a sudden burst of speed, the man disarmed and pinned Tsuku to a tree, holding his sword at this throat. "Last chance." he growled to his captive. "Clear out, or you die." He grabbed Tsuku by the scruff of his neck and threw him to his buddies. They scrambled past the man, some tripping as they went. Yuuki laughed at their near comic display. Wonder why they came down here, anyway. he thought. He continued to walk along the road to find it. |

He decided that perhaps it might be more convenient to simply travel on the path instead of navigating the river as he had planned. He stops at where the main path met his, the wind blowing his cloak loftily to the side. He glanced upwards and looked at the gathering clouds. It was beginning to get dark.
The man turned his head to the side, glancing to the sides to examine the length of the roads. Something caught his eye -- a man dressed in black, a sword at his waist. His curiosity piqued, he leaped fowards towards this new person, moving at an inhuman speed. He twisted slightly, then yanked himself back in the other direction, dragging the edge of his long, billowing cloak horizontally, almost as though it were a sword. |

This must be what scared those fools off...this should be interesting... he thought. The figure was blurred, still shooting towards him. Tsuki ducked, hand on his sword as he dropped low. As the figure flew over him, still going at a high speed, Tsuki whipped his blade out to slice at the exposed back of his attacker. |

Though surprised that the man was able to dodge, he does not hesitate for a moment. He dug his feet into the ground further, fully eliminating the momentum he'd gained from his immense speed. He cursed himself for waisting all that time stopping, but forces himself to ignore this and continues. Instantly regaining his speed, he whips his cloak horizontally at the sword, the cloth surrounding the blade in a tight grip.
He wrenches the blade back towards him, much to the surprise of its previous wielder. He flips his cloak upwards, flipping the sword up in doing so, and grabs the hilt. Continuing this motion swiftly, the brings the blade back around to under his would-be opponent's chin. "That's all?" he asks, quite obviously unimpressed. "I'd expected more from one so brave as to carry a sword in public during these times." He takes a step back, withdrawing the sword from the man's neck and holding it off to the side. He walks off to the side of the path in front of a large boulder. He narrows his eyes, grips the hilt carefully, and raises the sword to be parallel to the ground, the base of the hilt near his right armpit. He bends his knees, lowering his torso. Then, in an instant, he appeared forward, his arms and legs outstretched, having thrust the blade of the sword through the boulder. He turns around casually, not even having broken a sweat. "Prove you are worthy, then maybe you may have it back." OOC: Permission given by boots so that I could successfully take the sword. |

"Never have I seen one of your speed." he said, avoiding any negative actions. "Now, we shall see..." He walked over turned his back to the rock. Bending his right knee and placing his foot on the boulder, near the sword, he laid his right hand on the hilt. He brought his other foot up to the rock and pushed off hard with both feet. The sword dislodged, and Tsuki flipped forward and landed on his feet. "That was all?" he said, mimicking the other, a smile playing about his lips. "I expected more from someone of your speed and skill." |

The sheer defiance in his opponent's action, as well as the mocking comment he tossed in afterwards are simply uncalled for. He is beaten, and should have known that. The man in the cloak was going to have to educate him.
"You have yet to see one of my speed, boy," The cloaked man says menacingly. "In fact, one of my speed can not be seen by the likes of you." He lowers his center of gravity, bending his knees slowly and deliberately. The man reaches up and pulls his hood back, revealing his face. However, the bottom half of his face -- from the nose down -- is still consealed by a thin scarf, which has a color to match that of blood. The tails of this scarf flail carelessly to the side in the wind, along with the man's unkempt, jet black hair. The man stretched one arm out and pulled the other slightly in, getting into a kempo*-like stance. Then, in almost an instant, his form becomes hazy and blurred. The form seems to stretch as he moves forward, the frontmost part of the ghostly form showing the most recent motions. In the next instant, the form had suddenly blurred accross the entire distance between the cloaked man and Tsuki. However, barely a blink's time later, he appears solid again, standing back at the place were he started. The look on his face is neither pleasure nor excitement, but pure disgust. The ghostly appartion which stretched the distance between the two combatants slowly fades away. "That was maybe thirty-five percent of my speed," he says, his voice dislaying the same disgust that was evident upon his face. "And I could have killed you at least four times." As he says this, four small rips in the fabric of Tsuki's clothing appear. "Return the sword and leave, lest I kill you for real." OOC: *note: Kempo/kenpo is a japanese art of fighting with the hands. Ranma uses it, for those of you have seen that anime. It can probably be likened to karate. |

Though it was old and worn, she found that the older the sword, the better it was. She was clad in all black hakama and haori, with wooden sandals that made loud clacking noises with each step. Her midnight black hair shone like the stars in the sky at night, the light wind blowing it behind her as she made her way.
The band of men, having been defeated twice already, came upon her and smiled. "A wench, eh? A sword-wielding one at that..." They laughed, and Masoto stopped to glare at them. "Hey little missy, why don't you play with our swords, they're a lot more fun and less dangerous..." Their taunting disgusted Masoto, and she continued to walk. One of the larger men in the group grabbed her wrists and slammed her into a tree, enabling her to reach her sword. She gritted her teeth, looking for a way out. Two other men tied her ankles to the bottom of the tree, so kicking the man in between his legs was out of the question. When she looked to her left, she saw the outline of two men fighting. At the top of her lungs, she screamed out to them, "OII!!! HELP ME! I CAN'T FIGHT BACK HE-" However, he cry for help was cut short when one of the men punched her in the stomach, knocking her out. |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | Tsuki turned at the sound of the yells. God...will those clowns never quit??? He turned to the other.
"Whatever. We can finish this later. I'm going help her. You can come, or you can leave. I don't care, I can easily defeat these twerps, like you defeated them earlier. Now, if you'll excuse me..." he said, sheathing his sword and sprinting down the road. Tsuku turned around, smiling due to their new catch. A helpless girl had been far easier to deal with than those two others. He looked down the road and gasped. Speeding towards them was the man who had just kicked his ass. "IT'S HIM! THE RAGBAG!" he called, drawing a sword from one of the other men's sheath. "GET HIM!!" He charged down the road, followed by many of his new followers. Tsuki smiled. This would be easier than last time. He spun rapidly as he came to the first of them. They all found themselves disarmed on the ground in a few moments. Many of the men had turned back and were running down the road. In the opposite direction of Tsuki! Only one man left had a weapon. Tsuku. The fight began. It didn't last long. One sweep of his sword disarmed Tsuku. Tsuki slammed into him, sending him backwards. He sheathed his sword, moving towards Tsuku. But he had made one error. He had forgotten about the 3 men behind him. Two of them stood up, although weaponless, and latched onto his arms. The other one put leaped forward and grabbed Tsuki's ankles. He crashed to the ground. The two on his arms pulled him upright, so he was facing the third, who had let go of his ankles. The man pulled back a fist to strike. Tsuki swiftly countered, ducking the blow, leaning back and snapping his arms forward. All three mens' heads collided. They slumped to the ground, unconcious. Tsuki turned around to find the other opponent, and found him long gone. I'll catch up with you later. he thought. Coward. He went over to the tree where the girl was tied. Drawing his sword, he sliced the ropes. The girl, still unconcious, fell to the ground. Sheathing his sword and stopping her fall, he set her on the ground. Slightly shaking her shoulders, he asked, "Are you alright?" |

It doesn't work like that. I let you start out with a rather strong character this time, since I felt like beating him up and since the post you made w/him was so long and decently written, but he's still no kenshin. He is most definatley NOT that fast. I wont have you delete your post or anything, but just keep in mind for future reference to keep his skill level at one level, and not growing exponentially with each post ^^;;;
The man in the cloak moved in a blur, almost flying past the two people crouched by the tree and kicking up dust behind him as though he were. He flew from one of the offenders to the next, and as soon as he moved away the person fell down. He went all the way down the road in this manner, until none of the offending men were standing. He could not stand men like that, who preyed upon those they thought were weaker, then fled if they saw that the threat was too much. He returned a few minutes later, walking, but with such long strides and swift movements that he moved nearly as fast as one might jog or even run. And yet, despite his speed, his manner remained relaxed and aloof. Covering the remaining distance between himself and Tsuki with but a few swift strides, he grabbed the man by the back collar of his shirt and pulled him up off the ground. As he did this, he reached out and slid the man's sword out of its sheath and placed the tip of the blade at its owner's neck, all in one precise, fluid movement. "You would dare so blatantly ignore my words?" he asks, successfully inflecting a strong tone of menace and anger into his otherwise bored voice. "One more such demonstration of ignorance and you may consider your life forfeit." He narrowed his eyes, taking a small step back. He tossed the sword in the air, flipping it around, and catching the blade with his bare hand, careful to clutch the sides of the weapon and avoid the sharpened edge of the metal. He then raised it up, offering the hilt back to its owner. "Be grateful you demonstrated an understanding of the proper use of such a weapon," he says, though his words remained cold and unwelcoming. His next words carried more than a simple suggestion: "You may leave, I shall handle this." |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Weakly, Masoto opened her eyes to see two men standing around her. When she came to her senses, she jumped up and back, her hand rushing to the hilt of her sword. Her jade eyes were clouded over with confusion and fear. Where... did those other guys go...? She wondered. One of the men near her looked as if he'd been winded, and the other held a sword with his bare hands. They seemed to be skilled, definately far more than she. "Wh-who are you guys? Are you going to rape me too?" She glared at them, her hands shaking on her sword as she stood her ground. |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | Tsuki turned his attention away from the other for a moment. It appeared the girl had woken up. He let out a dry laugh.
"No, that's what those other men down the road were gonna do, though." he said. His red eyes locked with her jade ones. [color=red:3e6ef40aec]Jade... Asai thought. Why does that seem familiar??[/color:3e6ef40aec] "I sent those idiots packing down the road. However..." Tsuki jerked his head towards Kenji. "We were having somewhat of a 'discussion' down the road and he was displeased that I ignored him. So..." He turned back to Kenji. He took the sword hilt in his hand, and sheathed it. "Now that all seems to be well, I shall take my leave." He turned back to the path and walked away. "Good day." he said, as he walked away, towards Kyoto. |

She smiled and bowed deeply, thanking him for his help. "Thank you so much. How can I repay you to?" She recieved no answer, so she merely stood there, watching Tsuki walk away. A familiar feeling in her heart told her to follow, and so she did, running after him. "Tsuki! Wait!" |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | Tsuki turned at the sound of his name. She knows my name... he thought. Interesting... He rested one hand on his sword. As the wind blew through his dishiveled hair, he leaned his head to one side.
"Is there something you wanted to say?" he asked, his blood-red eyes flashing. |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Masoto blushed and bowed deeply to him. "I ... Wanted to thank you for saving me.. I'm so weak.. I just, want to repay you somehow.." She turned away for a moment to look out at the forest, the wind blowing her hair gentely. Her jade eyes turned back to meet his. "I'm not sure why, but I remember you somehow.. Though I'm sure we've never met before.. But in any case, I want to thank you. How can I?" She stood beside him, her hands clasped against her breast, hopeful to repay him. |
