Nenshoukaze raised his sword absently, leaping back as Yuuki's sword clashed with his. He was impressed with his opponent's speed and technique; not many could execute a battoujutsu effectively. And of course, that was what Kaze wanted to find out for sure. At first glance, Yuuki's technique seemed perfect -- he was a master, of course -- but all techniques, especially a battoujutsu, have some weakness.

Luckily, Kaze knew the battoujutsu's weakness, and that was the moment just after missing. However, was Yuuki skilled enough to adapt? Kaze was very curious. He stepped back, readying his sword again. His whole stance seemed to dare Yuuki to repeat the battoujutsu.

Yuuki grinned, because he saw Kaze's stance. But he didn't know, he thought the move was over. But he was wrong. Once off the sword, Yuuki kept spinning. He came around a second time, lightening quick, and swung slightly downward this time, rotating around.

Nenshoukaze looked blankly at the continued attack with genuine surprise. So this was his way of continuing the battoujutsu? It was interesting, but surely had a downtime much worse than that of a normal one. Nevertheless, Kaze had not been expecting this attack, and could barely raise his sword in time. This time, he leapt further back, out of range. As he glanced down at his haori, he saw that the pressure alone from the attack had caused a few seams to rip.

Kaze grinned as he looked at his opponent. This man was truely worthy of his sword. Now was not the time to be testing his opponent, trying to see his techniques multiple times. If he did see it again then he would see the weakness and find his timing then, but he could not wait for it. He had to focus here and now; there was little room for error. He had underestimated his opponent's skill and overestimated his own knowledge; it would not happen again.

Kaze allowed his eyes to go out of focus as he released a set of mental barriers which he'd placed ages ago. He was now prepared to use eighty percent of his speed -- he needed to keep the last twenty hidden, as the difference between his max speed and eighty percent was startling, as well as highly taxing on his body.

He held his sword steady, not wanting to go on the offensive just yet.

Yuuki saw the effect of his continued battoujutsu had thrown his opponent off. But he knew he couldn't try that again. It was time to finish this. He began to spin around again. Making sure that his opponent was watching closely, at the halfway point of his spin, he shot toward Kaze and simply brought his sword up and over as he stopped spinning and slammed down with a slice.

"Sharinken-ryu, iai: Sanrenryuusen!"* he yelled as the blade came down.

OOC:Iai is the same way of saying battoujutsu, and the second part is three headed dragon strike, or something like that.

Kaze dodged to the side, eyes growing wider. Another surprise; such a linear attack was rather strange and Kaze questioned its purpose as well as its effectiveness. As he saw things, it left Yuuki rather open. Leaping forwards with much greater speed than he'd shown thusfar, he slashed at Yuuki's side, though he prepared to leap away at the last second.

Yuuki leapt away at the last second, and indeed, a small tear his the fabric of his clothing appeared. His eyes widened; his opponent was speedy indeed. He skidded to a stop and then shot back at his opponent, slashing at his opponent several times, each at a different angle.

Nenshoukaze leapt back, sheathing his sword and lowering his center of gravity. He was preparing for a battoujutsu. Though he had not planned to take this course of action, he felt that his opponent was skilled enough to block or to dodge. Plus, the battle was heating up and getting exciting -- he had not expected this young man to be as skilled as he apparently was. Nenshoukaze took quick two steps forward, building up the momentum to give his battoujutsu extra speed. This battoujutsu was not intended for attack, however. It was intended to deflect Yuuki's attack. If it succeeded, Nenshoukaze planned to bring his left hand to the base of the hilt and drag the sword back around for a second attack, building on the momentum of the first.

OOC: this is a lot like kenshin's ultimate technique, "amakakeru ryuu no hirameki". difference is the starting stance is a normal battoujutsu stance, and it doesn't create the same vortex that kenshin's does; it's just a two-pronged battoujutsu, which, in the hands of a less skillful swordsman, could cause the wielder of the attack to lose grip on his sword! XD

Yuuki saw the battojutsu. He brought up his own sword, and it knocked them both aside. He knew, like Kaze, that this was the weak point. But he also knew that, like himself, Kaze must have compensated for this weakness. He readied his sword and took a large step backwards, putting some cushioning distance between the two of them. He had just pulled out of the way in time, though, for the brutal backswing of Kaze's battoujutsu tore a whole strip of fabric from Yuuki's shoulder. His eyes widened. Such speed was unheard off, as well as such a technique. His amazement turned to amusement as he realized he had never had such an intense sparring match. He sheathed his own sword and prepared for a second iai.

OOC: hope you understand this...

Nenshoukaze was pleased to see the success of his technique, as well as his opponent's equal success in avoiding it. The movement of his sword gave him an idea on how to continue his attack, but he wondered if this heavier sword with a slightly different balance would be able to perform as well. At any rate, this was simply sparring, and he knew he would be able to move out of the way if his spur-of-the-moment idea failed. The swordsman allowed the circular momentum of his weapon to continue, bringing it over his head with his right hand, pointing it straight up. He then rotated his body to the left as he allowed the sword to continue through the circle, moving in a downwards arc until the last moment when Kaze finished his rotation to face his opponent once again. At that exact second, he lunged foward, using the added force from the continuous circles of his swords to propel his thrust foward. He anticipated this attack being blocked or parried, and planned to continue with another, similar circle if it was.

"Hooou? It's morning already...?" Ushio mumbled, turning over on her small futon. Light lavender strands of hair fell into her face as she shielded her eyes from the afternoon sun that hung high in the sky. She pulled her small pillow and dropped it on her face, sighing as she struggled to sleep once more. However, this would not be possible, much to the woman's displeasure. Ushio shouted, startling the crowd of shoppers and merchants outside. "MOUUUUUU... ITTE..." she groaned, clutching her head in pain as she sat up. The woman's black yukata was wrinkled from the night's sleep and fell down her shoulders slightly, exposing what other men had dared to called the 'cleavage of the gods'; those men didn't leave with the same ability to reproduce as they had once had.

Slowly raising to her feet, Ushio grabbed the belt of her yukata and pulled it, causing her robe to fall to the ground and pool at her feet. She sighed, her head throbbing, as she brushed her mid-back length tresses behind her shoulders. She opened her small dresser and pulled out another black robe; a kimono. Along the sleeves and body of it were off-whtie cranes and sakura flowers in a pale pink. Ushio sighed slightly as she slipped it on, tying a red obi around her thin waist. Stepping over to a small mirror on her wall, the woman ran her hand through her hair, tousling it about until it laid to her liking. Her bangs fell to about a centimeter or so below her eyes, and the rest of her hair was slightly wavy as it tumbled down to her lower back. She struck a "cute" pose in the mirror, winking her brown eyes and creating a 'peace' sign for victory with her fingers. Ushio laughed at herself and took a long katana from against the wall, slipping it into her obi at the right side of her waist. With a nod, she grinned and slipped her feet into her wooden geta and clopped off down the street.

The loud sounds of merchants haggling for good bargains, horses neighing, dogs barking, children playing.. all of it throbbed in Ushio's ears, making her temples plead for mercy. It was a long walk to her favorite restraunt; never had it been such a lengthly, painful excursion for the 21-year old. Were she a cry-baby, she would have been bawling by the second she stepped out her door. Yet Ushio stood strong, forcing herself down the street despite her severe hangover from the previous drinking games she had mistakenly played the night before.

At last she arrived at the restraunt and walked in, her wooden geta making a clicking sound with every step. "Ohayou~" she'd say cheerfully to the various customers and staff alike. She was about to sit down at her usual table when her stomach lurched. Holding her mouth with one hand, Ushio winced and lept from her cushion and darted towards the back of the restraunt. The old woman in the kitchen greeted her and she hurriedly replied with a "Ohayou, Oba-han!", her Oosakan accent coming through with each note.

At last she burst out the door, ready to hurl at a moment's notice. Yet something caught her attention as she barely missed a blade of steel whiz by her. "NAN DE YANEN?!" she shouted in Oosaka-ben.

OOC: YAY OOSAKA-BEN!!!
MOU... ITTE!!! (DAMN IT HURTS ><)
Ohayou (Mornin')
Ohayou Oba-han (Mornin' grandma)
Nan de yanen?! (WTF?!)

Caught up in the battle, Yuuki heard a voice screaming in Oosaka-ben. He knew some of this language, and it sounded at the moment something like..."WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" But he could have been wrong. Either way, there was a sword stabbing at him. He snapped his own out of it's sheath and knocked Kaze's sword to one side, taking a moment to pause and glance at the interruption.

"Forgive our swordfight, ma'am..." Yuuki began, still holding Kaze's sword too one side along with his own.

OOC: since we'll assume all characters are speaking edo-ben (...or would it be toukyou-ben? Ah **** it, the equivalent of modern-day standard japanese X3) we'll say that stuff in <brackets> will be oosakaben, unless stated otherwise

Surprised and caught totally off guard by the sudden shout, Kaze forgot about his intention to spin about again when his attack was deflected, causing him to be caught up by his momentum and almost "fly" through the air passed Yuuki's side with a rather comical look upon his face. He landed in the dust and twitched slightly before he hopped back up to his feet, quickly sheathing his sword. He was eager to see the speaker of his favorite dialect -- he had lived in Osaka for some time and much prefered the language there to "standard" Japanese. He was rather happy to see that the speaker was a woman, though probably not for the reasons that most men would be glad to see a woman.

"Aah!" Nenshoukaze shouted, pointing a finger almost accusatorily at the woman with the sword. "Oosakaben ya! Ee ya naa!" He smiled happily, wondering if his "opponent" spoke Oosaka-ben, and, if so, if the man enjoyed it as much.

OOC: Oosakaben ya! Ee ya naa! = "It's Osaka-dialect! That's awesome!" (sorta)

Slightly startled to hear her home dialect, Ushio smiled and jumped from the steps of the restruant, landing with a soft 'thud' in front of the man who had spoken to her. "UWA! HONMA?!" she almost shouted, grinning ear to ear. With a firm grip she grabbed Kaze's hand and laughed to herself, patting him on the back with a decent amount of force. "Ah, sorry about that.." she said, scratching the back of her head. "I forget about my own strength sometimes.." Ushio finished her last sentence with a laugh looking down to see the sword that had only moments ago whirled past her head. "Ah.. so you're a swordsman as well?" she asked, grinning.

Her hand mad it's way to the sword on her right, patting it lightly. "I'm a swordsman as well.. but not of any note. I'm really terrible, y'see.." she said, shrugging.

"It's a bright and beautiful day~!" sang Jean-Michel Bourdain as he unfolded a map. "The sun is shining, the birds are singing!"
He danced around absentmindedly, laughing.

"Cher dieu," Lori, his wife and assistant said. "This is why you still pay me."
She looked around for someone, anyone that would help them find some damned historical sites.

While Lori was pondering why the hell she had agreed to come along, J-M had wandered off to ask some "locals". Locals with SWORDS.

"Excuse me, but I am here to explore your culture and..." J-M was interrupted by his wife.

Lori grabbed his shoulders and moved him out of the way. <I are sorry if husband bother you,> she uttered in broken, French-accented Japanese. <He Professor from America, come to study culture of Japan.>

Just in case, she put her hand on one of her trusty pistols.

OOC:Note: the stuff in the <>'s for LORI ONLY is Japanese. J-M can speak Japanese well.

Yuuki looked at the newcomer for a few seconds, trying to understand her. It wasn't that he didn't know Oosaka-ben, it was just that he didn't know it well.

"Riiight..." he said after a moment. "<I am indeed.>" He noticed the strange Americans who happened to have come back into his sparring zone as well. Well, damn...

"No harm done..." Yuuki replied, again straining with an accented form of Japanese.
