I know that we can do it." she replied, stepping towards her husband and slipping her arms around his trim waist. "Perhaps we should wait, however. You know as well as I that we have more than enough time in our existance to take our lives back, but he doesn't, and we need to make sure we end his life before he ends anybody else's." That said, the Xarian Queen turned and headed for the door, turning the knob slowly as she stepped over the threshold. Turning her head, she smiled to Falcone warmly, gesturing for him to follow.
"Perhaps we should have a chat with our friend, Hawkes." |

The dragons and the wyvern were not so different, and Melseme could feel the power of Zenjiro nearby(It had to be, nothing else had that sort of energy in the entire universe, save the other blade creatures). Arkus saw a ship in the distance...then two, three, four, five...in a moment his count reached 11. They were all bounty hunter ships, who had followed the Xarian vessel in stealth mode, undetected. But they had just dropped out of hiding and were preparing to attack. Arkus was not about to let them take his reward, and saw an oppurtunity to do more than that. He knew this group, too, having worked with them on many an occasion over the past 100 years or so. They were an organized little group called...something or other, their name no longer mattered. Arkus Rufo, Ghost, had targeted them.
They were dead. Arkus zoomed in, his forward cannons blazing with fury. The first two ships went down with out a hitch, then the others began to catch on. "Keep your thoughts silent, mate..." he muttered out of the corner of his mouth. "If you can sense the great dragons, they might sense you, so keep quiet, alright?" Another ship exploded, and half of the remaining vessels attacked the Xarian ship and the other half went for Rufo. *** A loud explosion brought Hawkes back from his world of daydreams and sleep. Laser after laser pounded the ship's shields. "DAMN!" he yelled, checking the radar to see about eleven, no twelve ships dropping out of cloak and approaching the small vessel. This was not good... "OI! BACK THERE!" he yelled, hitting a few switches on the control panel as the ship rocked from the impact of another blast. "Man the bloody guns and pray to God you can figure out how to use them!" He began arming the missiles when he noticed something strange...the last fighter to drop out of cloak was attacking the other 11, destroying two, three of their attackers. Four broke off to fight it, and the other four pursued the Free-born vessel. "Hey! Look at that!" he said to no one in particular. "Backup is always a good thing!" OOC:found ya :P |

"One way to travel," she muttered, rubbing her arm where it had hit a chair. A strange green bruise was already forming. "Hey Hawkes, what the fu..." she trailed off when she noticed the ships lurking outside the large front portal. Well, I can cancel my ping now. I just knew something was up. All because of me, too... "Anything I can help with?" she asked with a hint of sarcasm. "Nevermind, it looks like anyone with a pulse could help somewhat." She sat down at a gunner's station and prepared to fire. "Hey wait, doesn't that one seem a bit... weird to you?" She asked, pointing to Rufo's ship. "Whoever's piloting that thing seems to have a superiority complex! He's all like 'Lead, follow, or SCREW YO'SELF!' because he thinks the others are incompetent. Maybe he's the one we shold be worried about? Whatever, dammit. I'm gonna kill some birds." Melia chewed on her tounge in concentration, and shot at one ship's engine. "Fuh-ry-ed chicke~n!" She sang merrily as the ship became inoperable. OOC:Edited because, um, I was tired last night and posted strange things. XD;
The main idea I was trying to convey is that Melia is smarter than she knows... XD |

He grabbed his wife protectively just moments before the impact. The two were instantly thrown against the far wall, though the King's body cushioned Akari's greatly. He let out a large gulp of air as she moved away when the craft stabalized from the initial shock, and fell to one knee. He breathed deeply for a few moments before forcing himself to stand back up. It looked like they would not be able to complete a single mission without some complication.
There was little time to act, and so much that had to be done. Immediately, the Xarian threw his arm to the side, hastily summoning Zenjirou. When the wise dragon arrived, his expression was very grim. "<My young friend>," the creature said gravely in crisp, archaic Xarian. Its deep voice resonated within the room, commanding the attention of anyone who might hear. "<I sense an odd presence, which feels very akin to what can be described as nothing other than "evil." I urge you to take caution in all that you do>." "<I understand>," responded Falcone politely, his Archaic just as crisp. "<I thank you for your continued guidance>." Zenjirou nodded in acknowledgement, then floated up to land upon Falcone's shoulder. The king turned to his wife, his expression showing his concern for the upcoming battle. "We'd better get to the bridge," Falcone said to his wife at length, speaking modern Xarian once again. |

"I told you to keep silent, mate!" he said, out manuevering another ship and targeting. "If you can sense him, don't you think he at least feels your presence?" Melseme hissed anxiously. The great dragon had been called forth. The great opponent had been called, and the wyvern wished nothing more than to face it, to destroy it, to consume it. The dark dragon quieted, and eased back into the state of calm it had kept for centuries after the death of Kierkan Rufo. The spirit would appear on command, but he would keep himself silent in the figurine until then. Arkus sighed. He realized that the Xarian might be able to see through him anyway, but any shot was worth it. The last of the four ships exploded, Arkus was now enemy free. He began aiming for the remaining attackers around the smaller craft. |

When the dragon sat upon Falcone's shoulder, she smiled weakly and waved at it, suddenly feeling stupid. Shaking away her embarassment, the Queen turned to her King.
"I'm glad one of us can speak archaic; I should have studied more during grade school." she chuckled, altough uneasily; something felt... something just didn't feel right to Akari. "I may not have understood what Zenjirou was telling you, but... Somehow I think I understand.." she mumbled, her slender frame trembling slightly from the strange aura she was feeling from one of the approaching ships. |

"You don't go after MY friends' ship and live, bastard! They worked too hard to lose it to you!!"
She shot repetitively at the enemy ship, lighting up the endless night with glowing munitions. ...The ship dodged gracefully, and continued its path. Stahlflugel clicked the trigger in frustration, and cursed prolifically in the consonant-heavy lower Lekh. "Vaghtan ur'nim skt, I'm out of ammo! Hey Hawkes, how are we elsewhere? Do we have some ballistics in storage?" She was hoping, really hoping that there was a secret stash or SOMETHING somewhere on this ship. The only other options were: trying to outrun this guy, or putting the ship in lockdown in attempt to stave off the inevitable... "Please, please say yes." Stahlflugel pleaded, with Hawkes, the storage, and the Eight Siblings all at once. She was scared, truly scared for perhaps the first time in her life, and yet, with it came a strange calm. Melia was convinced that she could do whtever had to be done. Melia called upon Xenos, this time, with her memory in mind, the blade fanned out to assume the likeness of a scmitar. "It's perfect, Xenos," she whispered. The blade was exactly like her family's, in size, appearance, and heft. "But hopefully, I won't have to use it..." OOC:ASANTE SANA SQUASH BANANA |

"YEEHAH!" he yelled, grinning broadly as his face appeared on the screen. "How ya doin', mate?" Hawkes raised an eyebrow at this strange man on his screen. "Good...I suppose we have you to thank for that." "Don't mention it. Those guys were hired by Valkier. They musta thought you had a Xarian on board, ha ha!" Arkus kept a grin on his face, saying his last sentence as kind of a joke. "Yeah, how 'bout that?" Hawkes said, not missing a beat. "Say, mate, could I come aboard and talk for a tic? My ship's to small to host you and your crew, but I'd just like to ask a few questions." "Like what?" "I'm just looking for...say, you're not part of the resistance, are you?" "Why would you think that?" Hawkes said, now very cautious. Valkier had spies all across the galaxy. "Those men were definately with Valkier, he wouldn't attack his own...and...say! You're that guy who stuffed Valkier at least twice! I heard about you on Tarsan! You're...um...damn, I don't remember you're name, but I've been looking for ya!" "Why...?" "You and you're friends, the stories I heard inspired me. I thought about joining you all, if I could. My name is Arkus Rufo." Arkus was choosing his words carefully now. He hadn't actually lied, but he was leaving out crucial details in his story, ones that would give him away in a heartbeat. "Alright...Hold on, let me talk to my crew." Hawkes switched of the communication screen, and then left the cockpit to look at the Xarians, who were in the hall outside the door. "What do you think of that?" he asked them, raising an eyebrow. He wasn't certain of what to make of their oddball "savior." OOC:he hasn't actually lied at all, he's just not saying the entire truth :D |

The aged dragon had an expression on his face which clearly showed his thoughts -- he did not trust this "Arkus Rufo" at all.
"His words portray his true intentions in false," the wise dragon said sternly, though it was obvious that he was not as skilled in Common as he was in his native tongue. In truth, he had never felt a particular need to even consider studying the simplistic language until he discovered that the majority of people around him would soon no longer understand the elegant Xarian. "I sense evil in great with that one; perhaps he is not of an evil with himself, but his company is of evil in great. Be weary." The Xarian king nodded solemnly in agreement with the words of his wise friend. "I do not claim to be nearly as wise as Zenjirou," he said, "but I, too, sense that he has ulterior motives, and a power not to be reckoned with. Preferably we could avoid any further confrontations with him, perhaps evade him and return to the base. However, one thing is clear: we cannot allow anyone to follow us back home. Even if we are marooned out here for a time, we cannot reveal the location of the rebellion's headquarters. In the meantime, I think it would be wise to send a scrambled message in some code to warn them to be prepared to quickly escape to some other location further from the emperor's hand. We are now walking percariously on a very narrow line; the slightest mistake and we will surely fall... and with us, the rebellion." OOC: if you didn't figure it out, his use of "x in y" means more like "y x", so "intentions in false" is "false intentions." I really have no idea how you would say this in Archaic, but this way makes it sound like he's used to speaking a much different language XD |

She also sensed something from this 'Arkus' person, and whatever it was... it wasn't good. There was something behind that man's happy-go-lucky smile that made the Queen uneasy and her stomach churn. She stepped away from the door to the bridge slightly, ensuring that there wasn't any way this strangely-accented young man could see her. Turning to look at Hawkes, the Queen folded her arms over her chest and nodded.
"I agree with Falcone. While I may not be able to sense it as well as Zenjirou or the King, I get a bad feeling when I see that man. I can't put my finger on it, but whatever it is I don't like it at all. We need to stay away from him at all costs. Under no circumstances is he to be set foot onto this ship!" the Queen finished, unfolding her arms and putting one hand onto the wall to her right. She turned to glance at her husband, frowning. "This isn't good, Falcone. He has something with him that worries me. It's almost like... Zenjirou.", she mumbled, turning her gaze to the metal floor on which she stood. After a moment of contemplation, the Xarian Queen raised her head once more and spoke to her husband, though she was not looking at him. "It's almost as if.. he's one of us." |

"I don't know about him," said Melia, scratching her second eyelid. "He seems like he could be either good or bad, or somewhere in between. Maybe, he's bad for revenge or something, or... wait, I lost myself there. Today or whenever this is had just not been good." She frowned in frustration. D'argghh 'rit r'ar. Xenos turned into the ghost of himself and swam around lazily. "I sense that too, Akari. Maybe he is one of us." Her nose tickled a little, and she sneezed to relieve it. Why do I have these feelings?? It's probably nothing again... Or maybe I'm getting the Lekh Flu. OOC:Explanation: Stahlflugel crushing on Rufo + her belief that "somewhere inside everyone there is good" = OH SHIT DISASTERRR.
She is either headed for serious dissapointment verrry shortly, or Rufo is in fact nice (albeit deeeep down inside). |

Of course, Valkier did not control the Academy, if he had any part in the training program most of the troops would be dead. However, for what they lacked in initiative some of them made up for in stealth.
Trackers, small ships constructed with strange materials and in almost random designs, were the best way to keep watch on anything without being seen. Without weapons, a "silent" engine and extremely powerful sensor array to spay from a safe distance could be installed to be piloted by those odd Soldiers. And to top it all off, a little radar scrambler to make sure that the Tracker kept its facade as a drifting rock in space. Currently, 300 trackers were in operation, each one covering a different part of the galaxy. And of course, the one watching Ghost was probably having a blast. Valkier got the playback from that tracker in a surprising amount of time, meaning that something interesting was happening wherever Arkus was. Of course, the plan was that the first sign of the Xarians would require an immediate heavy assault. An entire fleet was on call and all it would take was a small pocket of Sub-space to throw them right into the fray. But...Watching the events of the last playback sent by Arkus' Tracker was quite startling, even for Valkier. And something was definitely not right with the current actions. Better to watch and wait rather than act. |

"Then perhaps we should fight him and get this over with." he said as lightning poured from his palm. "Better to have no one to track us back, eh? Besides, I'm itching to get that moron Valkier off our backs. How's that sound to you?" |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Slapping her palm to her face, Akari looked over at Hawkes. "Are you quite sane?", the queen inquired. "All we have now is a bad feeling. We aren't going to rush into some huge battle based on that. What we need to do now is find some way to get him off our tail, and get back to the base. Fighting this man will only lead to more casualties that can easily be avoided." |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | "There - you said it." Hawkes said, ignoring her question of his sanity. "Getting him off our tail. Whether he's good or bad, he's going to follow us, and if we try to shuff him off and he's evil, he'll attack. If he's good, he pester us annoyingly for quite some time, and follow us, most likely. I am not one for having a tag-a-long, good or evil." The golden eagle made his grand entrance a moment later, soaring from Hawkes hand to land on his shoulder.
"<My friend...>" it said, speaking the ancient Xarian tongue as it looked to Falcone and Zenjirou, "<Can you sense it? Do you remember the source of that evil?>" He paused for a moment. "<A wyvern.>" He stated simply. "Honestly, can't you just say it in common...?" Hawkes muttered under his breath. "No, not really." the eagle said, not missing a beat. "Then understand you would." If a beak could split into a grin, then the great golden eagle was grinning. OOC:yay...did anyone say "gorgonzola" yets? :P |
