Akari slowly opened her eyes, her vision slowly coming into focus. She sat up slowly, pushing her bangs from her jade eyes. The queen stretched her arms, opening her mouth in a large, wide yawn. Suddenly she realized something; Falcone! It didn't take her much searching to find him, although she did panic slightly. The King was sleeping soundly beside her, obviously recovering the energy he had previously lost. She placed a soft kiss on his lips before shifting her weight and pushing herself off the bed.

As she walked over to the window beside the bed, she noticed that her clothes had been changed; a red, silk dress with golden dragon emroideries was fitted over her slender figure, and was Chinese in design. Akari nodded her approval and pushed her hair back, causing it to tumble over her shoulders. She leaned her elbows against the window sill, gazing out into the dark abyss of space.

A frown crept across the queen's face as she recalled the previous events. It seemed every time she had the 'pleasure' of seeing Valkier, she loathed him even more. Hopefully he's given up. There's nothing he can do now that we can test that stupid stone.., she thought to herself, smiling slyly at the thought of rendering that demonic pebble useless. It was all a matter of time before Valkier would be groveling at her and Falcone's feet, begging for mercy.

Lying in his chair and gazing at the moon beyond the hologram of his next invention to be, Valkier contemplated his next course of action. So far he had lost every advantage, one Queen and then a King. So now what? What was left to do? He knew better than to surrender so prematurely but things were becoming complicated. Complicated by such things as that stealth generator.
The stealth generator. The hologram fluctuated suddenly to a brilliant idea. Lines quickly formed to make planes, which merged to create shapes of circuitry and mechanisms. Taking what he had learned from previous encounters, he added programming into the holographic blueprint. Finally, adding a broadcast and recieving dish to the exterior of the machine, it was done. One proto-type stealth detector and a simple exercise for Valkier's mind.
Valkier removed the wires that connected him to the holographic display device and began pacing his study. NOw that he had a way to see teh unseen, there must be a way to locate something worth seeing. As his eyes casually roamed the study they came to ease across one of the stones, its pale luminescence glowing hauntingly. It was like a ghost stuffed into a rock and it caused severe pain to those with superior psi abilities. Then it occurred to him: why not send out a wave of such energy like a radar burst, then use some kind of detector to locate the first persons to react to its power? Of course, he needed to create such an aparatus first. Well, there was no time like the present...

Falcone awoke slowly, keeping his eyes closed and not moving a muscle, even in the slightest. He had had a horrible dream about his beautiful planet being destroyed, with him being the only survivor. He seemed to recall a large ship picking him up and bringing him to a strange, run-down space platform, which was a makeshift base of operations. He had a funny feeling that this was more than a dream, but refused to acknowledge this possibility as he remained motionless and silent. The Xarian wanted nothing more than to open his eyes and see the familiar colors and images of home: the large, open space of their bedroom with pleasant pastels and bright white colors upon the ornate walls; the large opening in the wall which led seemlessly to a balcony which overlooked the fabulous gardens; the fantastic tapestries which decorated the simpler walls, left blank for precisely this purpose; the city beyond the garden, filled with people living out their lives, buying and selling and working and sleeping; his gorgeous wife, waiting for him out on the balcony -- the best memory of all. Falcone could sense her where the balcony should be, and swore he could smell the familiar smells of his favorite breakfast being prepared in the kitchens below. The king was almost willing open his eyes, confident that he would be back once again. However, for a second longer, he lingered with his eyes closed as he enjoyed this reverie for as long as he could; as much as he believed it, something told him it would not last.

The Xarian king sat up in the bed, the old, worn, and somehow comfortable sheets sliding off of his well-crafted form. He raised his right hand to his head, massaging his forhead with his palm as he supported himself by placing his left arm slightly behind him. Though he still did not open his eyes, he knew what awaited him. Slowly, the beautiful image of home faded away as the lids of his eyes rose. The beautiful pastels were replaced with flat greys, the paint running in many places and looking rather unattended to; the balcony was replaced by a relatively small window; the tapestries were replaced by blank walls and torn bits of paper which might once have been posters of some sort; the city was replaced with empty space and a random piece of scrap or rock. His wife, however, remained constant. Falcone found himself smiling, despite what he knew to be a great loss. His princess -- now a queen, it seemed -- had survived, and that was all that was important to him. He rose from the bed, finding himself in short pants. Next to his side of the bed hung a delicate robe, which had similar designs to the attire which Akari wore. He grabbed it and put it on slowly as he walked up behind his wife. Sliding his arms around her waist and stomach from behind and placing his chin upon her shoulder, he heaved a sigh and opened his mouth to speak.

"It really is gone, isn't it?" the Xarian King said slowly, carefully. His eyes seemed to grow misty and regretful. "Our home, our friends, our family... everything." He held his wife a bit closer as he said this, squeezing her gently as though to ensure she was real and wouldn't disappear.

Akari jumped slightly at the feeling of her husband's arms around her waist, but smiled warmly as he did so. Affectionately she placed a soft kiss upon the crown of his head, using her right hand to run it through his hair gently. Weakly, she nodded to him, slowly raising her left hand to touch the glass of the window gently. "It.. is.." she whispered, her once confident voice ridden with sorrow. All the Queen had to do was close her jade eyes to remember; to see once more the beauty that was her home.. THEIR home, Xaria. And yet that man, that PIG of a human being had taken it all from them in one fell swoop. Akari slammed her fists against the glass of the window, clenching them until her knuckles turned white. "We have to stop him, Falcone..." she said, gritting her teeth as she opened her eyes, her mental haven dispersing before her eyes as she gazed out into an abyss of black nothingness.

The Queen's head suddenly snapped up; she had an idea. She spun around quickly, putting her hands onto Falcone's shoulders; her fingertips barely reached over to his back. Akari couldn't help but smile; she had forgotten how tall her beloved was. He was almost an entire head taller than she. Leaning her head back, she locked her jade eyes with his. "Let's go talk with the council. Perhaps, now that they've seen your.. our wisdom, they'll listen to us a tad more, and we can try to put a stop to Valkier!" she finished, hopeful.

Hawkes awoke, slapped himself in the face to attempt to further his awakened state, and rolled out of his bed and straight onto the floor. THUD. With a slight groan, Hawkes pulled himself upright.

"Ow..." he muttered quietly. It was around 4: 30 in the morning. He was normally one of the first people up, and had been for some time. He dressed himself and left his room and began to wander the hallways, as he normally did in the mornings to wake himself up.

To the words his wife spoke, Falcone merely nodded. The famously charasmatic Xarian was at a loss for words. He had always wanted to be king; he'd longed to wear the robes that his father wore, who'd inherited them from his father, who in turn got them from his father before him, and so on. Falcone had never even dreamed that he would get them like this. Indeed, the robes were probably shredded into a million pieces by now. Though they had been protected from wear and damage by ancient magic which drew from the planet instead of a person, so that (in theory) it would never be gone. But now... the planet was destroyed, reduced to rubble. Could there yet be any magic remaining in that place? The king hesitated to even consider this possibility; the image of his home planet -- rather, what was left of it -- flooded back into his memory. He forced his eyelids closed, as though hoping this would rid his mind of the horrid image, but it did not. A single tear escaped from the corner of his left eye. Just one tear, but one which he shed for all the millions of people he would have ruled over with pride and honor. It felt heavy upon his cheek, as though it contained the tears of all those millions of dead Xarians whom he mourned, and who in turn mourned the loss of their planet.

"No," the Xarian said slowly, pulling his wife close so that her head rested upon his shoulder, such that she could not see his tear. "I shall ask Hawkeye to have them prepare to convene soon, but now.... We must have a proper funeral. Not just for the peoples, but for the planet." He paused again, not opening his eyes and not moving an inch. Perhaps he simply wished to think for a second before he spoke again, perhaps he was choking back another tear. "I know father would have wanted that."

Melia Stahlflugel sat in the cockpit of the Fierce Allegience, watching the stars go by because she had nothing better to do. Pushing a button on the right side of the captain's chair, a holographic board game appeared in front of her. The game computer asked in a tinny voice, "RED OR BLUE?" She was about to reply, when suddenly a strange sound emitted from her ship's belly:
WHUHUH---WUMP.
She noticed the stars weren't streaking past like before, meaning the ship had come to a complete stop.
"DAMMIT! I had hope the drive chain would last until I got to my client on Calienthe-4! God knows I would have replaced the humpin' thing if I had the money."
Incensed at her horrid bad luck, she stomped down the metal stairs to the engine room. It was a short walk, as the ship wasn't very large.
Indeed, when she got to the engine room, her findings were worse than exspected. The drive chain that looped through the engine had snapped, and flown across the room to lie in a smoking heap.
"...My God..." Stahlflugel could only wonder how THIS had happened.
But, because of this, she had more pressing issues: "Without the engine running, the air scrubbers don't work! That means...."

No air.

She ran back up the stairs, flung herself into the captain's chair, and pressed a bright red button. Strobe lights flashed outside the ship, and various waves broadcasted a SOS to all those nearby...
"Please let someone find me before I die a horrible death..." she moaned.
And then, promptly lay back in her chair for what might be her last nap.
"Either someone finds me and wakes me up, or I don't wake up at all."

OOC:meh, it's ok... btw, the Calienthe homeworlds are the next system over from the Xarian system.

OOC:EDIT: Calienthe-4 is conveniently between the Tiershaa and Xarian systems.....

Akari, slightly startled by his sudden embrace, took a moment to register the situation before she responded accordingly by wrapping har arms around her husband. She nodded slightly, buring her face in the safety of his chest, breathing in lightly. The suggestion seemed as if it were the right thing to do.. They had to show respect for those that they had lost; it was Akari and Falcone's duty as their rulers. She rubbed his back gently, feeling as if she were about to cry. The loss she and Falcone had sustained was great, and they were the only two who were left to bear the sorrow it brought about.

Though against her will, a tear fell from the corners of both Akari's eyes, running down her cheeks and falling off of her chin. "I just.. can't believe they're gone.. all of them... Falco--" she began. Suddenly she had a severe ache pierce her skull, almost as if she had been hit in the head with a large boulder. She squeezed Falcone's arms and fell to her knees in front of him. The pain lasted for a moment or so, no longer than ten seconds before it subsided. Her arms trembled slightly as she grasped them in her hands, shaking.

"Wha... what was that...?" she asked, wide-eyed.

The hangar, Valkier's personal play room. Even when he was a child, neglected by his own father who was always off doing this and that, destroying worlds and the like. Still, he felt at home here. The smell of fuel was his incense, the cold fighter bays were his rooms. Right now, he was creating something of use. Not the stealth detector or feedback cannon (a powerful gun that could use the shields as a capacitor, absorbing any fire and rerouting it in a powerful blast). No, he was working on something fun. By hooking up eight Madness stones to this new device, Valkier could find the remaining two Xarians. THey would recieve an especially horrible pang from the experience, but, if his modifications were accurate, Valkier would be able to trace their brain waves. It was like an echolocation machine for those with especially powerful PSI.

"Okay, lads, stand back," Valkier shouted. The workers all scattered like cockroaches. "Fire it up and record this. Put it under Proto-Test 1!"

"Activate!" Valkier shouted. No sooner had he said it when he nearly glimpsed a distortion of pale energy race from the core of the machine. And then it was gone as it raced across the galaxy. Would it work? Who could tell, all that was left was to watch the radar, see where the responding signal came from...

"Emperor, we just recieved a signal!"

"Truly?" thought Valkier. He walked to the display, hoping for something worth seeing. What he saw was quite amazing.

"Officer, I see fourteen signals. There are only supposed to be..." Valkier paused. Several of the dots vanished while others flickered to life. "Right, take it apart, we need to do this again." No sooner had he said it than the surrounding soldiers, standing around or passing by, opened fire on the machine much to Valkier's surprise.

"Wait! Wait! You idiots, that's not what I meant. Oh nevermind..." he sighed. "Why do I even bother" Valkier moved to another bay while the sounds of destruction proceeded behind him. It was time to start over...again.

"AAAUGH!" Stahlflugel jerked awake. Her eyes and nose ran, as if she had been punched in the face. Groggily, she scratched her eyeball beneath the first eyelid, and rolled over to get tissues.
"Oh, great," she sighed. "I caught the Lupenza, somehow." She coughed violently, and then sneezed.
Looking over on the display panel, to see what time it was, Melia noticed ice crystals creeping across the cockpit's glass. Without the heaters, the intense inky cold of space was another contender for her life.
"Where are the humping blankets??" Stahlflugel spat. "'S humping cold!!!!!"
Finally finding the blankets, she curled up into an uneasy ball. She had a feeling that somewhere not too far away, was the emperor that stank of her people's blood. Melia only hoped that someone else would come across her first....

OOC:oh, right, sorry if "she scratched her eyeball beneath the first eyelid" disturbed you. amrans have 2 eyelids, the first normal, the second, clear.

Falcone felt it too, just moments after his wife did. Though he had braced himself in the slightest, no preparation could ready him for the pain, and he was down on one knee within a moment. But then, it was gone again, and he was helping Akari back up. He knew the pain all too well, for he had endured it for no short period of time. It was clearly the work of those crystals Valkier had invented. But how? Falcone frowned, realizing that any research on ways to counteract the maddening effects of those stones must take place as soon as possible. They wouldn't be able to do much good as leaders if they were so easily disabled, would they?

"It must be those damned crystals," Falcone said gravely. "I've no idea how, but that's the only thing I've ever felt that even resembles whatever just hit us. I -- wait a sec." Falcone had just had a strange flash of insight. He saw the cockpit of a small space vessel, the viewscreens fogged over and cyrstalizing. He also saw blankets, which seemed to be wrapped around a body, but he couldn't see the top half of the body. This must be what that person was seeing. Just as soon as it had come, the vision was gone. However, he was still left with a trace idea of where it came from. He wouldn't have even realized it was a location which he sensed, if it weren't for where it was from. It was not far from Xaria, or at least, where Xaria was.

"Did you see that?" Falcone asked hurriedly, moving quickly towards what he hoped was a closet in search of clothes more fit for wearing in public. "I think someone's in trouble, near our... near where Xaria used to be."

Akari, with the help of her husband, shook her head slightly as he helped her to her feet. "No, I didn't see anything.. I'm trying..." she began, hugging her arms close to her bosom, "...to keep from thinking of it.." As she finished she closed her eyes and squeezed her arms, struggling to stem the flow of tears that were desperate to flow forth from her eyes. It wasn't that Akari wanted to forget about Xaria, that wasn't the case at all. She was merely having difficulty getting over the fact she had lost nearly everything that she held dear, save Falcone, of course. When she saw Falcone headed towards the closet, she trotted after him, opening the door for him.

She pulled out a set of robes that were a pastel-like shade of red, helping her King into them. Akari smiled as she stood back, taking in all of her husband's charm; she had almost forgotten how handsome he was in their time apart. The Queen opened her mouth to try and speak, but couldn't. All she could do was merely smile as she stepped up to him and embraced him gently. As she nuzzled her face in the warmth of his body, she closed her eyes and breathed in. "I missed you so much, mai rei.." she whispered, clutching his robes tightly.

"Pull!"

Up went the disc, a robotic construction, which zipped around the firing range with complete freedom, tracking the motions of its opponent. These things were highly adept at dodging, so said the R&D. It could see, think, and react with perfect precision and its small size gave it an extra edge against...

The small disc exploded into tiny fragments. Valkier reloaded the ancient pistol, something he had dug up as a child, and prepared to take on the next target. The revolver he was holding...there was never a day when he wondered where it came from. Who made it and why did it have such precision despite its primitive design.

"Pull!" Up went the next disc, which zipped around in a much different pattern than the previous. Valkier tracked the thing expertly, expecting its every move. He squeezed the trigger...

"Emperor!" a voice erupted from the intercom. "We have an unregistered ship in the Xaria system, information forwarded by your orders"

Valkier looked at the tiny speaker box for a thoughtful second as the disc remained in flight. Valkier sighed, blew up the disc without a second look, and moved to the Lift system. Valkier accessed his own intercom device.

"Unregistered or unmarked?" asked Valkier.

"Um...Un-marked, sir. The Imperial patrol apologizes for-"

"Shutup and capture it by whatever means possible, maybe they have information regarding the rebels. Besides, that area is off limits by imperial law. Oh, and have the science crews of any vessels entering that area download project S.D-9127, a stealth detector. I want to see if it works"

"By your will"

Though he knew the necessity for quick action was great, the embrace of his beloved was immediately softening to Falcone's tense mood. The king returned Akari's embrace equally, pulling her close and allowing her head to rest upon his shoulder. Another single tear fell from the corner of his eye, a tear which summed up the whole of his worries and fears about whether or not she was alive and safe. Looking back on it, he realized that he should not have been so worried, for he knew his wife to be quite capable, indeed perhaps more capable than he in many situations. However, though he dearly wished for it to be, the time at present was not one for admiration. They were together once more, and no matter what they would not be separated again.

"My dear," spoke Falcone softly, stroking her silken hair, "there was never a moment when I didn't miss you either. I feel foolish now for worrying thus, but there was a time when I feared that I had lost you. I'm so glad to have you back." He squeezed her gently in affection, silently signifying his intention to never let go of her. He paused for a long moment, hoping to soak in the moment as long as he could before they went into another situation of action. While the distance between their base and the planet Xaria was too great to cover quickly, the king could only hope that there were Rebellion ships nearby who could help, much as they had done for him. "We should hurry," Falcone said at length, leasing his hold on his wife, taking her soft, delicate hand instead. He stepped out into the hallway with her, looking for his good friend Hawkes, whom he knew could help him. However, he kept his eyes open for anyone else that looked helpful, not expecting to be able to find Hawkes right away. If they wished to rescue this person, they must hurry. Either the poor soul would freeze or suffocate to death, or else Valkier would reach them first. The Xarian could not decide which was a worse fate.
