Melia was overcome by shooting pains in her throat and lungs, like she had breathed in glass fragments. She clawed at her already streaming eyes in a futile attempt to stop the waves of pain. Her nose ran heavily, as well. All the while, the nightmare visions played over and over. Even worse was the fact that she deserved it. I am the only one even remotely powerful enough to stop him... But even if I accept my destiny, I need to search out others more powerful than me... A lullaby played in her head as she watched the gore, and the suffering in the mines. A true dream, she gasped. This is how it is.... Horrified, she looked at her nightmarescape come true. It got louder and louder, tormenting her with every syllable. "If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that I'd like to do Is to save every day 'Til eternity passes away Just to spend them with you If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true I'd save every day like a treasure and then Again, I would spend them with you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go Through time with If I had a box just for wishes And dreams that had never come true The box would be empty Except for the memory Of how they were answered by you..." It's those little niggling details that you don't pay attention to that get you in the end, Stahlflugel mused, still in excruciating pain, but now awake and pleasantly nightmare free. OOC:OK, so I lied. THIS is the end of Stahlflugel's musings on life as the only free Amran. ;P
EDIT: Lame-ass song deleted and replaced with Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". :D |

I also doubt that you could rebuild a complex machine like that "xarian detector" (the functionality of which i still doubt, especialy at the distance there is between tiershaa and xaria) in the span of about 2 minutes, much less improve it in that time, which you've done. Looks like everyone's goin with it though, so I guess I can't argue with that any more than i have Again, it seemed that Falcone felt the effects of the crystal after Akari did, if only a second later. Even still, he was slightly more prepared than last time, though it still wasn't nearly enough to negate the effects. Though his first guess was that Valkier was attempting some method of broadcasting the effects of the stone he'd created, the Xarian couldn't even begin to guess how this was possible, though he could easily guess the reasons. However, he sensed that this was not necessarily his intention -- Valkier would have no way of properly testing it, and Falcone was sure that the Emperor would want to know his insane experiments worked effectively. However, the king found himself also unable to guess what other purpose such a thing could have at the moment. After a second or two of pain, however, it was gone. It was as though a blanket had been thrown upon himself and his wife, but he was just at the edge and able to scoot out -- this theory seemed true, for Akari was still suffering even when Falcone was fine. It was apparent that the thing, whatever it was, had a limit; it also seemed to be sent out in a wave, and thus could be predicted and avoided. Quickly, the king grabbed his wife and pulled her to his other side, and out of the effective range. "Bad, yes," said Falcone with a grin forming on his face. "But not unstoppable; I'll tell you after we get this person out!" By that time, the small troop had arrived at the still dark flagship, and made their way through the bottom of the hull towards where they sensed the prisoner they sought. |

Probably soldiers stationed to this ship, making the rounds. But, it could be rescuers!
So, she rounded up her courage and pounded on a hollow spot, screaming in a voice hoarse from crying. The footsteps continued down the hallway... "No, they're going the wrong way," she nearly sobbed. But how could she expect them to find her when they had never been here before? She tried to calm herself down enough to think- how could she let them know her wherebouts? Melia streached her right arm out instintively in front of her, and Xenos' statue appeared. "Does this model come with a blast cannon?" she wondered. Slowly but surely, energy gathered in the shark. It then shot up, surprising Melia so much she nearly dropped it. "It looks just like the flame on a... blowtorch!" She grinned with insane glee. She set to work, and within ten minutes she had made a basketball-sized hole in the door. Perfect for sticking her head through. |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | "I really don't see why--" Akari had begun, but was interrupted by a large blade of golden energy that cut off a few strands of her ebony hair. Her eyes wide with shock, she blinked twice before she watched the blade leave the whole. The Queen poked her head through the hole and back down, holding her left hand out and closing her eyes. "If you're in there, I suggest you back away from the hole momentarily." she said as silver lighting sizzled and crackled about her hand. A silver dragon slithered forth from the electricity and along her hand, quickly solidifying as it opened its mouth, a blade of silver energy pouring from its mouth.
The Queen grinned. "I haven't used it in a while.. hope I'm not rusty.." Akari finished with a chuckle, slamming the blade into the hole and melting the metal around it to form a hole big enough for even Hawkes to get through. She climbed through and into the room, looking to her right and finding the captured girl. "Well, hello there." she said, slightly cheerful. "I doubt you know of me, but... I'm Akari Xar, and we've come to rescue you. We, my husband and I, that is, know of what it's like to be held in captivity by that.. thing." Obviously, the 'thing' in question was Valkier.. "Come now, we don't have much time.." she said, holding out her free hand to the girl. |

At least, Falcone hoped that this was the case. At that moment, he sensed the approach of a small band of soldiers, perhaps ten seconds before their footsteps became audible. He summoned his own blade, holding the glowing weapon off to the side as he stepped back out of the hole where Hawkes remained on guard. He leaned inside the cell and said softly but with urgency in his voice,
"We'd better hurry. I think we've got a goon squad headed our way, and I'm sure they won't be very happy to see us!" Falcone got back out and stood beside his friend, prepared to defend his wife and their new acquaintance who seemed to be more interesting than he'd anticipated -- she appeared to have the ability to summon a Xarian blade, though which was unknown to the king at the moment. Nevertheless, it would be good to have one more such ally, as magic thrives with fellowship. |

She took the hand extended to her and introduced herself- "Melia Stahlflugel, Amran blacksmith extrordinaire, and of late, proud beholder of this golden shark-" She pointed to Xenos. "I actually did hear what happened, from one of my Rebel-friendly clients... It's terrible." she shook her head. "All because Valkier was a spoiled brat with a powerful father..." |

I'm sorry we have to rush things a bit but I have no desire to be captured by that beast again. I'll kill myself if I have to stand beside him for another MINUTE!" she said, almost shouting, covering her mouth when she saw Falcone shoot a look at her that seemed to say 'Don't blow our cover!!'. With a nod to the girl she climbed down the hole they had made, quickly wriggling down it to escape the mad emperor. |

Limping and panting along in the back of the group.
"I'm running on empty, sorry if I slow you down..." Such nice people! Why do bad things always have to happen to people like them? Ahh, wait. Cramping. Less talking, more running. Melia winced and bore the pain, not wanting to be a burden. |

They were nearly there, but even still there was little time to waste. The king made a quick decision and slowed down his pace so that he ran abreast of the Stahlflugel. He smoothly scooped her up and placed her over his shoulder, saying softly to her, "Sorry, miss, but I'm sure you understand that this is faster and thus better all of us." Had she been able to see him, he would've winked. She couldn't, however, so he merely increased his pace to catch up with his Hawkes and Akari.
"Hawkes, get ahead and start 'er up! I've got a feeling that your EMP's effect is wearin' off! We need to be on an escape route ASAP enroute to some place where Valkier can't track us, at least until it's safe to change course and head back to base." |

| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | A lone cadet rushed from his console to find the Admiral staring out over the hangar from his unique vantage in the command center. Quirat was simply reflecting, but his wrinkled features offered to no hint as to what.
"Admiral," the cadet shouted. "Thermal scans have just come back, we have several intruders in that ship we docked" "I am quite aware of what happens aboard my own ship," Quirat replied darkly. "um, then what is the recommended course of action?" "Just let them leave" "Sir!?" exclaimed the cadet. "Shouldn't we attack them here?" Quirat slowly tore his gaze from the hangar to bore into the eyes of the cadet, who quickly averted his own as sweat began to bead his forehead. "Let them leave aboard their ship. All cannoneers and missiles are ready to destroy anything that leaves the ship," Quirat paused as he looked over a small data pad. "And if they should try and hide, The Emperor's eyes shall see them" With that, Quirat marched off to attend to other things at hand. On his way past the cadet, he placed the data pad in the young man's hand. Shyly, the cadet looked at the pad and its plans for a complete Stealth Detector... |
Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | Hawkes knew something was wrong. His sixth sense had kicked into overdrive, and it had yet to be wrong. He reached inside himself in his search for his eagle companion. The eagle's eyes gave him great vision, and he could see what was going on. EMP's didn't simply wear off. Something had happened. He also saw the weapons charging, waiting for a target. Snapping back to the present, he turned around in his seat to Falcone.
"Dirty S.O.B's waiting for us to go." he said, hitting a few key switches on his control panel. The ship moved, but only a little bit at a time, trying to avoid radar detection. He managed to reach the area directly beneath the bridge. Hitting a few switches on the panel again, a small item detached from the hull and locked onto the Tiershaan ship. Then, like a shot, the ship blasted away, and, convienently slipped into stealth. Hawkes doubted, however, this would continue to work. Sooner or later, Valkier was going to wise up and try to find stealth ships. Either way, this ship was the fastest in the galaxy, and Hawkes doubted Tiershann pursuit. |
| Digithe Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 884 | Posted: Fri Sep 09, 2005 10:49 pm | Characters: All for this theme; By Digithe: This theme, Any theme The Xarian nodded gravely; though he knew he could take down more than his share of fighters -- he had done so not too long ago -- he doubted he could do so while defending a ship, and still return home safely. Besides this, he was facing more than just a handful of fighters; it was likely that he would also be facing barrages of missles and high-powered laser blasts, which, when combined with the power of a fleet of fighters, would wear him down rather quickly. To his advantage, he did have his wife with him, and they were both nearly back to full strength; however even still, it was not worth the risk of both of them getting killed or captured -- they were only rescuing one person, after all. There was, of course, the unpleasant possibility that they would all be destroyed. If it came down to that, Falcone reasoned, it would be well worth it to at least try to save the others.
For the moment, however, he looked over to Akari, who sat in the chair nex to him, placing his hand upon hers. Though he said no words, and nor did he make an effort to send them telepathically, his expression seemed to almost speak to Akari: I think maybe we should try to leave our adventurous and risk-taking childhood habits behind us sometime soon, don't you? He then offered her a wink, squeezing her soft hand gently. "Home, James," Falcone said without even a hint of seriousness in his voice, attempting to ligthen the mood. |

Well, the gunners were obviously getting impatient. Of course, Quirat had been telling them to hold their fire for far too long after mobilizing them, which brought up the question what was he waiting for? "Admiral Quirat! We still have nothing on the Detector" "You must be joking, it feels like it's been hours." Quirat growled "What is going on?" "Wait! I think...hmm...nevermind, must have been a sensor ghost" Quirat sighed. "There's nothing for it. Resume patrol, but keep the search teams in action. Demobilize the gunners" "You do know, they're not going to be happy about not being able to shoot anything?" |
