"Same lame taunts, Elaina?" Hawkes shot back. "I hadn't realized we were on first name terms." Seizing his oppurtunity, Hawkes reached his arm behind his head to get a hold on Elaina's, and then proceeded to half roll forward to throw her over his shoulder.

“Same old taunts? Why, Hawkes, this is the first we’ve spoken to each other,” Elaina laughed softly. Her voice was still damaged from her little brawl with the little princess. She allowed herself to roll off his shoulders, and landed to face him with her free arm ready to throw a punch. When her feet hit the ground, her open palm swung up to hit him in the nose.

Though he didn't intend to show it, Falcone could not make himself say anymore. It was all he could do to keep himself from collapsing. Instead, he simply nodded to show his agreement with the Keitosian. He didn't like the idea of trusting a creature as treacherous as Arkus -- a bounty hunter, no less -- but he knew that he had only a scarce few options, and this one, however bleak, seemed best.

A wise man once said that in the face of mutual peril, the greatest enemies can become the greatest allies, the king sent to his wife. We can only hope that he is as honorable as he claims.

Hawkes' eyes widened in surprise as her palm shot towards him. He reacted as quickly as he could, throwing his arm in the way of the the oncoming attack, stopping it before it broke his nose. Intending to counter her attack, he quickly snapped his arm around and seized Elaina's attacking wrist and threw her past him, using his other arm to make sure Elaina had no stops on her one way trip to the floor.

Arkus nodded back. He picked the blasted stone up off the ground and tucked it back away into his cloak. His headache went away and he figured the Xarians would stand in just a moment.

"Sorry about that, mate...sort of..." he said. "I'm not particularly a fan of cheating but I had to get to you to listen for a moment." An explosion sounded off as another missile knocked against the ship. Arkus glanced in the direction in came from. "Seeing as his Majesty doesn't trust me, I'd like to have a word with his other dogs."

Valkier jumped out of his seat on the bridge. Had he fallen asleep? How long was he out for? Was the crew being stupid and not telling him that Elaina was back with the data he needed and the report he preferred? As Valkier straightened himself out, scanned the bridge, and received the same quailing looks of fear from his command crew Valkier realized that "none of the above" was the best answer.

"Emperor!" an audio file shrieked.

Valkier yawned and accessed the "talk" screen. "What is it now?"

"Scanner's report, sir," the voice responded hastily. "We've had no contact from the surface from either Elaina or that bounty hunter-"

"And this is important?" Valkier spat. "Elaina is currently on black ops time and Arkus is probably dead. I hardly consider any of this important"

"A large amount of time has elapsed, though..."

Valkier was ready to order the reporter's immediate execution but hesitated irrationaly. Elaina new about being quick in an operation. Hell, her operative precision was almost surgical in nature. Add to her impressive skills a small host of professional soliders... something was wrong. Either that or Elaina was losing her touch.

"Oh, one thing more, sir," the reporter continued. "There was a brief EMP burst on the planet and we lost track of the enemy ship for a few minutes before reestablishing its position"

Valkier cringed. Now he was positive that things were not going accordingly. If his guess was correct then the ship's crew might have EMP'd the ship rather than allow it to be hacked or captured. Needless to say, the twins would be ticked.

"Soldier," Valkier said calmly. "Close this channel immediatly and return to your work" a faint hiss and complete silence meant subordination. Hesitantly, Valkier opened up a private line, one that went to a single transponder down on the planet.

"Leo," Valkier hailed. "Leo respond immediatly, I need your report"

"Good evening, Valkier," Leo replied in his monotonously chilling voice. "Things seem fine here. Taurus fired a few missiles into the hull of the ship. Sagittarius is juggling rocks. I was meditating. Oh yes, the enemy ship is practically dead from an EMP burst. I guess hacking the core has been ruled out"

Valkier sighed inwardly. The computer core was not a priority but it would have helped in his pursuit of the rebels. "Elaina. Where is she?"

"In the ship, of course," said Leo. "Along with the twins. Been in there for quite a while"

Valkier swallowed hard and backtracked through his mind before speaking again, "My intuition tells me something is wrong on Elaina's front. As such, I want you to take the other two and execute the classic number. A Meat-grinder extraction. Get Elaina and the twins out. As for that ship, the only thing I want left of it is a smoking crater, understand?"

Leo chuckled softly, lifted his pistol and charged the chamber almost affectionately. "I hear and obey," he laughed. "Leo out" and then to himself, "Finally, a nice bloodbath to pass the time"

Elaina felt her body hurtle through the air, and she closed her eyes and braced herself as the floor rushed to meet her. She swallowed a scream as she felt the impact rip through her body and threw off the shock as quickly as possible.

That's going to bruise, she thought. Her eyes snapped open and her legs lashed out at Hawkes, wrapping around his neck and forcing him with all her weight to the ground with her. She reached under her skirt and pulled out her other revolver and pressed the barrel to his forehead.

“Don’t move. Don’t even breathe, if you want to live a little longer,” she threatened softly, tightening the grip she had around his neck. “You really are an inconvenience.”

“General Storming?” called a voice. “Are you in here?” From the sound of his voice, Elaina knew it was Sagittarius. “Ah, there you are! Leo and Taurus are coming as well, Emperor’s orders… Do you need help with him?”

“No,” Elaina answered sharply, and then a small, cold smile tugged at her lips. “But there’s a girl, unconscious and bleeding, on the floor just down the hall. Collect her and take her back to the Pegasus immediately. If she wakes up, knock her out again”

“Right away, ma’am,” he said, walking away. “Where are the twins?”

“Sagittarius, is that you?” said two voices in unison.

“How does it look out there?” asked one.

“It’s rather noisy,” said the other.

“Sagittarius,” Elaina reminded.

“Right, sorry I asked,” said the mercenary and he scooped up the Amran, and began to carry her out.

Hawkes stood still, a little enraged that some dog of the empire had a revolver at his forehead.

"Damn you..." he muttered under his breath. He ran plan after plan through his mind but was drawing blanks when suddenly the door opposite him was kicked open by a combat boot and one particular bounty hunter rolled in with his shield in place and his guns blazing.

"Arkus..." Hawkes gasped. Not wanting to think about the possiblity that his friends were dead, as soon as the general turned to look at the intrusion, he summoned the golden eagle and charged up it's blade.

"Damnit, you two!" Arkus yelled as he fired, "Could you be any slower? You're missing the fun!"

Akari, glaring at Arkus angrily, slowly got to her feet. "I apologize for having been incapacitated from your lovely little 'rock' there... DO forgive me.", she replied sarcastically.

Elaina's satisfied smirk disappeared like a snowflake in a desert, as she heard the door bang open. Her head snapped toward the direction of the sudden, unwelcome noise; thinking the Xarians had already dispatched of the bounty hunter. Luckily, Sagittarius had already disappeared through the hole in the storage closet

"Rufo?" Elaina muttered under her breath, her eyes widening slightly. "Surely the Xarians aren't weak enough to be beaten by one cocky-" The sudden surge of energy from Hawkes snatched her attention. "I don't have time for this." She released her hold around his neck just long enough to smash the bottom of her boot into his face. The General rolled to her feet, and stood with her gun still in her hand.

“A little late for the party, aren’t you, Mr. Rufo?” Elaina asked. “Have you successfully completed your mission, or have you come seeking assistance?”

OOC:Blaahh... soorrrryyy.... i sleepyyy... oh and about kicking hawkes in the face.... well it was that or blow his brains out... death... Unconsciousness... hmmm... i mean really, you don't expect her to take bothof them on at the same time... do you??

"The party starts when I arrive, mate." Arkus said calmly, his gun trained on Elaina. "Especially when your damned emperor doesn't trust me enough to do the job he paid me for, and sends his little tagalong general and her cronies. Lovely." Arkus spat in disgust.

"I have put my mission aside for just one moment so I might deal with your little interference. You see, I don't like it when fleabags encroach on MY mission. It's a little insulting, and if you are still alive after this, you can explain that to your dear mate, Valkier, understand?"

He studied Elaina for a moment or two, noticing that she wielded a revolver as he did, meaning that she could pierce his energy shield. It didn't particularly matter though, because she probably couldn't handle a gun as well as he could. After all, he'd been practicing for over two centuries, and she was only human, was she not? Confident in that fact, he tilted the gun not pointed at Elaina slightly, and then fired, aiming to ricochet the bullet into the gun or her hand and knock it out of her grasp.

Elaina quickly recognized Arkus’ betrayal and she narrowed her eyes as they flashed angrily. That dirty, rotten, low-down, good-for-nothing son of a gun, she thought, tightening the grip she had on her revolver. This is why you don’t hire bounty hunters, Valkier. They wouldn’t know business ethic if it bit them in the crotch. Of all the imbeciles you could have hired…

The general opened her mouth to retort, but a small cry came out instead as the bullet grazed the side of her hand. The gun fell to the floor, and her hand felt as though it were on fire. She quickly dispelled the pain from her mind, and she whipped out two more guns- one from her belt, and one from the concealed holster under her vest- and leapt to the side. Her grip tightened as she quickly took aim, half her glove was stained red and it began to drip onto the floor, and she fired twice. One was aimed to ricochet off the wall and into his back, and the other was simply aimed at his black heart. Her speed could have been considered inhuman.

General Storming ducked behind the door Hawkes had used as a shield earlier, and calculated how many shots she had left. She sighed holstered an empty gun, and pulled out her last revolver. Eleven shots, she gritted her teeth. Blast!

“Your ”˜mission’ was to destroy the Xarians, and as far as I can tell, they live. Therefore, you’ve not only failed, but this can also be considered treason in the highest degree. Your treachery will not go unpunished, Rufo,” Elaina said icily. “If I die, you won’t be paid and I’m sure the Emperor will wreak his vengeance on you in one way or another, and if I don’t, I will do all I can to make sure you get a one way ticket to the gallows.”

Child, stand down, Yankeirou advised softly, still trying to avoid detection from the other creatures. You’re body is exhausted! You can’t keep pushing yourself like this! Besides, you have no idea what he’s capable of.

Hush. I need to concentrate, Elaina replied stubbornly.

He’s Keitosian, the silver eagle attempted to reason with her. You cannot even hold a candle to him in your current state, child. Retreat, and live to fight another day. Elaina ignored his warnings and refused to respond to him, and she concentrated on how to beat him with only 11 shots. Yes, she had more ammunition on her person, but she doubted he would allow her time to reload.

Falcone struggled to remain calm as the stone was concealed. He quickly stopped shaking, and his head almost instantly cleared. He stood slowly, intentionally, and looked around, regaining his surroundings. The king took a deep breath of the crisply stale air, then looked to his wife to see that she was okay. When he heard her speak, heard the familiar sarcasm, he had to smile; she was definately alright.

OOC: bleh

OOC:Umm...Melia's.... not on the ship... Sagittarius took her away... Hawkes is still there... his face might be a little bloody... and I don't envy the headache he's going to have when he wakes up, but he's there.

Leo stood off to the side, silently surveying the scene unfolding before him. He didn't even twitch when Valkier's voice rang through his personal earpiece.

"Leo, what's going on?" Valkier demanded, his voice only a soft crackle of sound in Leo's ear.

"We're having a lovely meeting on the ship. Elaina's here, the rest of the squad is keeping a perimeter. We caught a rebel. And now Arkus and the General are having a fire fest" Leo reported calmly.

"What!?" Valkier roared. "Damn it! Make this channel into a speaker! I want to talk to Arkus, NOW!"

Leo grimaced for a second (valkier was losing his focus and Leo was sure the bounty hunter would not listen), made the necessary adjustments and pulled the piece from his ear.

"Rufo, you bloody bastard!" Valkier's voice exploded into the ship. "Stand down or, so help me, I'll come down there, kill you and annihilate your wretched species!!" Valkier raged.

Arkus was getting in the way. He always got in the way. The whole bounty hunter ploy was coming off as a horrible idea. The other hunters were probably dead from raiding rebel outposts but there was only one who actually posed a serious problem. Elaina was assigned to hack the core, destroy the ship, kill the rebels, kill the Xarians and cross blades with one of the Xarians (It might even work on the Kietosian) using the Sword-Catcher. The mission was teetering on the edge of failure. Elaina needed to fulfill at least ONE of the criteria or the whole operation was a bust.

Valkier had an old plan for the data-gathering sword catcher. If it did so much as touch anyone with one of those energy weapons while it was active it could give him all the information he needed to create a perfect weapon. Even if the mission did fail, if Valkier recieved the data he required he would have all he needed to end the entire conflict with demonic grace.

Elaina’s eye involuntarily twitched as she heard Valkier’s voice boom through the halls. Why did you hire him in the first place? she thought, taking out her empty gun and extra ammunition. I told you not to bother with bounty hunting scum, but do you listen? No, of course not! Why listen to me? What do I know? Nothing! Absolutly nothing! The general was seething as she quickly reloaded the revolver. Maybe it was the lack of sleep that was making her so irritable, but she kept her thoughts to herself. Valkier was human and mistakes were to be expected, and besides he was buying her time. She holstered her gun, and replaced the missing bullet in the other.

Eighteen shots, General Storming thought to herself. It’s not great, but it’s better than eleven, and it only takes one well-aimed bullet to kill someone.

Child, Yankeirou whispered in her mind. This is your chance! Slip away now! No one will notice.

Yankeirou, you know better than anyone that I don’t run away, Elaina retorted.

Put your silly pride away, child, the eagle demanded. Your life is at stake! Does that not mean anything to you?

You taught me to keep my word, and I have given my word to obey the Emperor, and protect the Empire. I will die before I let these ragtag ”˜soldiers’ uproot what preceding generals and I have achieved, and thrust half the galaxy into anarchy and chaos with scum like Rufo running around without any law and order to curb their dastardly exploits! Do you understand? The silver eagle was silent, but she felt his understanding, and was slightly comforted that he was willing to stand by her side even though she knew he did not completely agree with her.
