Stahlflugel was deep in a dream, sleeping despite her predicament, or maybe because of it.

She stood on the edge of the White Cliffs of the Barrier Islands, giant redwoods all around. Something inside her goaded her to dive off the very tall cliffs into the sparkling green sea below. Following her instinct, for this was a dream, she dove gracefully downward. Finding that she was slowing down instead of speeding up, she relaxed. With a small splash, she was underwater, and she saw everything she had yearned for. Opening her eyes to rainbow colored fish amd coral again soothed her.

Something told her to keep swimming to the break in the reef. She swam, enjoying the feel of water once again- not coming up for air, because, well, Amrans can hold their breath for ten minutes. Melia spun and flipped like a dolphin, giddy with relief and happiness. Nothing has changed! All the horrors were just a dream!

When she finally reached the open sea, there was a large group of sharks monitoring the area. Melia didn't fear them, remembering what her father said a long time ago- They're the wolves of the sea, Melia, and they fear us more than we fear them!

She chuckled. From where had that memory come from?

Suddenly, dramatically, the reef sharks parted to let a gigantic Thresher shark swim through. Melia noticed that the shark was a flashy golden compared to the dull pewter of its peers. How strange, she thought. As the dream faded and the shark approached, it spoke to her: My name is Xenos, and I am inside you... you just have to look.

The dream broke suddenly and unexpectedly. Stahlflugel sat with her head in her hands, distraught. The happiness was the dream, it was all a dream...

Letters written by a hand that wasn't there appeared on the glass to form one word- the answer to her question-

NO.

Still sleepy, Hawkes was shuffling around the still quiet fortress when he yawned for a second and walked straight into Falcone as the Xarian left his room. He fell to the floor and rubbed his skull where their foreheads had collided.

"Morning..." he muttered. "What brings you running out into the hallway?" He nodded at the Xarian Queen as well. "And Akari too, the whole gang's here..." And somehow, without anyone understanding why, Hawkes crashed back to the floor, fast asleep and snoring loudly.

Akari's jaw dropped slightly as she saw the tall man fall like a log onto the metal floor. "Well..." she began, rolling her eyes as she stepped over the man, pulling her husband along with her, "he was a big help.." Eventually Akari stopped walking, putting her free hand on her hip.

"Well... if Hawkes can't even keep his eyes open long enough to hear us out, then how are we ever going to help that poor soul? I don't know what would be worse.. never waking up again, or waking up to seeing THAT thing. Believe me, I did that once and I would have MUCH rather have recieved the first option.." she finished with a disgusted shiver. The Queen was quite distraught, wishing honestly that she could help the person inside that steel deathtrap. "What can we do, Falcone?"

Flagship Tykundra, the pride of the Imperial patrol was the greatest ship to guard the Xaria system, a no fly zone by Imperial law. It's admiral, Quirat, was a prideful man. He believed in his duty (which was to fly around an empty plot of space while being pummeled by the remaining chunks of Xaria) and performed it with the utmost efficiency. So when an order came to him directly from the Emperor his spirits soared like the fighters that bore down upon a certain unmarked vessel.

Stahlflugel looked up from her hands, slowly. It felt as if her whole body was encased in lead, and yet, her head felt like it would drift away...
She stared warily at the ships descending upon her own. I wish I could do something about my impending doom, she laughed bitterly. My leaving Amra only stalled things.

Melia heard the clank of boarding tubes hooking up to the Fierce Alleigience. Figures that when I got the chance for revenge, I'd be too out of it to take advantage of the opportunity...

She was frozen like a statue because of her body's weakness and the ever-present cold.

Four fighters, that's all it took to drive one ship into the hangar of the Tykundra. Quirat was quite amazed that the ship did not try and evacuate the area, then again there seemed to be something wrong with the craft as it was. The more Quirat looked at it from the monitors room in the Hangar the more he had cause to feel disgust. It was a rickety old thing, engine falling apart, shafts dented, and that was just what he saw from the outside.

"Alright, men," Quirat adressed the storm team. "You have your orders, look for any contraband and detain any passengers-" Quirat paused, there was a message onscreen "-once we have the prisoners we head straight for the Capital. Valkier wants anyone entering the Xaria system detained in the city prisons. Go"

The storm team moved out. Within seconds they were tearing into the ship's hull, cracking at doors and checking for compartments. It would not be long...

OOC: this is post is technically still before valkier's ship capture's melia's

Falcone frowned, sensing that things were progressing much faster than would be ideal in order to rescue the person trapped in his or her own spaceship. However, even if any attempt would be ultimately futile, there was certainly no chance of success if they didn't even try. At least if they tried they would have a chance, no matter how little it might be. The Xarian looked down to his friend, who was presently collapsed on the floor like a drunkard. Falcone swiftly slid his foot beneath the man's stomach and lifted him up quickly, putting his hand out as a stabilizer.

"Hawkeye, my friend," the king said quickly but clearly. "I fear there is someone near Xaria that is in need of assistance. Do you know of anything we can do to help, any way we can reach them before Valkier does?"

Hawkes opened one sleepy eye and yawned.

"Yep." he said, gesturing to a door less than 30 yards down the hallway. "There's a EMP launcher in there that could disrupt Valkier's boys while you grab the other vessel." He slapped himself a few times and then realized how he was being lifted and both eyes widened.

"DAMN, man..." he muttered to himself. "You have GOT to teach me this..." He shook himself into full awakeness and slid of his friend's foot to the floor, landing gracefully...somehow.

"Come on," he said, alert and tense. "To the hangar. We take the fastest ship!" He now had begun to run in the hangar's direction.

Ohshitohshitohshitohshit... Melia thought frantically, What are they doing to my ship?!? She heard banging and scraping against the top of the hull.

She realized that sadly, she had no weapons aboard, save Nero, and the hefty ax was stored in the back cargo room. I'll have to get creative, she smirked nervously. OKOK, don't panic. I know I left SOMETHING in here...

Stahlflugel hefted herself out of her seat, shaking and sweating with effort. She looked about frantically, finding only a crowbar, a blowtorch, and a broomstick (no broom part). Staring at the sad pile with remorse, she muttered, "This is one of those few times I wished I carried a gun."

Melia opened the cockpit door, and hid behind it with her crack weapons. Footsteps were coming down the hall her way! She gripped the crowbar tightly, ready to bash the next person who came in.

Akari looked up at Falcone, nodded, and began dashing after Hawkes; she was determined that, if by any chance the person in that ship was a fellow Xarian, or really anyone, she would help them as best she could. The trio arrived in the hangar, and the two Xarians followed Hawkes to the 'fastest ship'. The Queen's left eyebrow curved to form an arch. "THIS is the fastest ship?" she mumbled to herself, looking upon it disdainfully. To her, it seemed fairly old and worn, with the paint chipping off in many places. However, a ship was a ship, and Akari soon climbed onto the ship after Hawkes and Falcone.

"Let's hurry before she gets put into Valkier's prison; a place that I probably consider worse than Hell... Although you would know that better than I, love." the Queen finished, putting her hand on her husband's shoulder.

Several uniformed soldiers stormed the cockpit and yelled, "FREEZE!"

Melia jumped out and whacked the speaker between his eyeballs. He gave a short moan and fell over with a thump. "I already have, and it wasn't pleasant. For Amra!!!" She gave the obligatory battle cry and leapt between the other soldiers, swinging wildly and desperately.

Suddenly the crowbar leaped out of her hands and skidded across the floor. Crap... She had been disarmed.

Reaching around for the broomstick, she taunted, "Let's have another go, shall we?" And launched on the offensive again.

But this time, the soldiers had had time to get their guns out and ready while she was distracted. Stahlflugel managed to deflect one with the stick, but two others grazed her leg and arm. She yelped as she felt the stinging pain.

Melia managed to take out two more, before one soldier got in point-blank range and hit her on the side of the head with the butt of his rifle. She fell over, clutching her head. "Ugh..."

The lead soldier walked over to her with a grim grin. "For your insolence to the soldiers of the great Tiershaa Empire, you will pay!"

He stepped on her ribs.

Melia screamed with pain and fear. She had gone over her threshold, far over.
With the last of her power, as she was being dragged backwards to the Tiershaa vessel, she concentrated on sending a telepathic message. She really didn't care who it got to, as long as it worked. Stahlflugel didn't really believe in all that telepathic stuff, unlike most on her planet, but this was the last-ditch effort!
...Come quickly, or I will die! ....Somebody! HEL...

She had been knocked out suddenly, cancelling the transmission, her head hitting the rungs of a ladder ascending into the belly of the beast.

Hawkes snorted at Akari's disdain.

"This hunk of junk is far more than it seems." he said proudly, hoping aboard and firing up the engines. He quickly secured himself in the forward cabin and prepared for takeoff.

"Hello and thank you for flying Phoenix Air." he said, grinning slightly. "The captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt and no smoking signs, and asks that the passengers stay seated for the duration of the flight. Thank you and have a nice day!" With that, he hit the forward thrusters and shot out of the hangar with unparalleled speed. How Hawkes managed to control a ship moving this fast was anyone's guess, but he was doing it as if it were no thing. At this time as well, the EMP laser was fired and made contact with the Tiershaan vessel, shutting off all of it's power instantly as the speedier small craft approached...

"...The hell..." Melia muttered groggily, climbing out of her stupor to awake to a cold, rusty cell. Alone, thankfully. She stiffly rolled over and got up to survey her surroundings more closely... But, well, there was nothing to see. Her cell was completely empty, with no visible doors or windows. The only thing at all in the cell was a drain in the floor! She wondered how the guards had even gotten her in here!

"So much for plan B," she said, exasperated. Melia punched and kicked at the walls, which were, as she had thought, hollow in a few places. "Still doesn't explain how to get out..."

Suddenly, Stahlflugel had a stroke of inspiration. Reaching inside her shirt, she pulled out the Talking Crystal, suspended on her necklace.

Melia had only used it once before, and she knew she could only use it three times total. Here went #2...

She concentrated on the crystal, and orange energy pured out to form a small, wizened figure.

What is it that you seek?[/color:ee95b96915] the Guardian asked, aura throbbing.

She responded, The location of the golden shark, Xenos.[/color:ee95b96915]

He showed her the path to the very center of her being, one which she had been on long ago, before she lost faith in the human race and herself. It had since grown dark and weed-filled, but the landmarks were the same.

She arrived at the dream place of before, the redwood copse. There were dead bodies strewn around, and more people were coming from every direction, to die in this place. They here covered in soot, blood and brands from their conquerors. Dying of malnourishment, disease, exaustion, anything you could name, Melia saw people afflicted with it.

What had once been her dream place was now the nightmare place.

"You ran away. You gave up too soon," her people moaned with empty eyes. "We are still alive, painfully alive. Kill us, or save us from this Hell!"

"No..." she said in a small voice, running away to the freedom of the cliffs, and flight, swimming, death life rebirth dark light!

Melia opened her eyes suddenly in the water, wondering when he had shut them. This time, the reef was a dead grey, mournful like bleached bones.

And the shining golden shark swam across the reef.

You must learn compassion, and to accept the truth, no matter how painful...[/color:ee95b96915]

"I... I understand! Please! Don't... hurt me..." she sobbed, realizing the glint of Xenos' hate for a spineless human being.

It is not that you ran away, but you did not face the facts of the fate of your people...[/color:ee95b96915]

It then swam to her, and proceeded to tear her, flesh flom bone, until there was no Melia but the blood, crimson in the water. Melia was alive, another Melia, watching from afar the nasty spectacle. And then, when Xenos was done, he dissapeared into her cloud of blood, and they were one.

Melia woke up from the trance, shaking and sobbing. These encounters today made her never want to sleep again...

She put her trambling hands in her bloodied and knotted hair, and cried, something she had also not done in a very, very, long time.

"Now what!?" Quirat snapped. An entire ship power down? Only meant one thing: An EM- Pulse. Or, maybe the engineers were playing limbo with the energy coils again. Quirat quickly wiped the thought from his mind; either way, the ship might be down but they would not be out.

"Fire up teh auxiliary, the shielded one. We don't want a repeat of the engine blowout," the Admiral barked. "Activate"

Keys tapped, voices were raised. Suddenly, erratic at first then steadily growing, the lights and power returned to the ship.

"Reboot system programs and get the main guns ready. Something hit us with an EMP and that something is not leaving in one piece. make sure we have those EM Pulse difusers ready in case we get hit again. Oh, and continue to search the ship"

"Sir, the search team reports they've lost sight of a prisoner!"

"That's nice," Quirat grimaced. "Just tell them to do their job!"

Back in the hangar, Valkier was standing before another, better Xarian tracker. Wires were stripped to a bare minimum, the feedback sensor was refined, everything was perfect.

"Alright, men," Valkier grinned. "Let's try this again. Go!"

Once again, the machine rumbled with electric power. And, just like before, a nearly intangible wave of energy pulsated out of the machine's core. After recovering from the initial shock of the pulse, Valkier ran to the display, eagerly awaiting the feedback report.

Akari grinned at Hawkes. "Looks like this piece of crap can fly pretty well... Now let's go get tha--" Akari began, but was quickly interupted.

The Queen's eyes widened and her pupils nearly dissapeared as another wave of pain shocked her small, slender frame. Akari screamed, and it would shock one to realize that said scream had not broken all the windows on the ship. She writhed in pain, grabbing her head and crying out in pain as she fell forward, tears streaming down her cheeks. Curled up in a ball on the cold floor of the ship, the Queen had been rendered helpless, her small frame trembling as she sobbed, her jade eyes wide with pain and fear as the events of Xaria's destruction came flooding back into her head all at once. Thoughts of what felt like EVERY Xarian at the moment of the impending doom dove into her mind, gnawing away at the core of her thoughts.

She couldn't think, couldn't breath. Her skin turned pale; this was far worse than that stupid stone Valkier had used before. The Emperor meant business. After what seemed like five minutes, the pain slowly subsided, and Akari blinked once, closing her eyes as she put her hands to her face and wiped the tears from her eyes. She glanced over to Falcone, frightened as she struggled to return to her seat and look to see if he was alright.

"This...", she breathed, "...is bad..."
