L-Luddamn, Melia thought, but her face didn't change. Every Keitosian knew the answer to that, of course, but Stahlflugel was no Keitosian, and had therefore backed herself into a corner.

Melia scrunched her face with concentration, and desperately thought to Hawkes: Start to leave now, please. I'll try to stall as long as I can, but he knows.

"<Yeah, sorry, I lied. I'm actually Amran, which'd be why I haven't answered you question. Melia Stahlflugel of the line of Hack and Vendetta Yasuna.>"
She resumed her catlike grinning and continued. "<As you may remember, I'm the one who sold my own world right into Valkier's hands. For this precious translator necklace,>" (here she held up the bauble) "<Empire citizenship, and a ship of my own.>"

"<You see, because I am a blacksmith, the abitily to trade freely, and to get rare ores from faraway planets, is far more precious than a certain Lud-forsaken midsized world.>" She put an air of apathy into her words, and toyed with her necklace.

Melia made a mental note to bash her head against a wall when this was over.

OOC:PS:
1. Amran culture note- Lud is the Zoraian's God, the Sun god. Melia considers herself Sindhian because she was raised there, and so curses Lud. Whala.
2. Melia is lying about the "selling Amra" thing. In actuality, she neither hurt nor helped her planet when she left. Melia's playing the fact that no one bothered to record what happened in/after the Battle for Amra.

Elaina laughed a little and she rested her weight on left foot, and placed her hand on her hip. “I’m sorry, Majesty,” she apologized with her little smirk. “It’s been nine months since I’ve been able to relax a bit. I’m just not use to it anymore, and being “stony,” as you delicately put it, is simply natural now.” She sighed. Maybe I’ll take some leave for a few weeks, she thought, but she quickly banished the thought. There’s too much going on in the Empire at the moment, and I’ll probably be needed.

“I’m doing quite well, now that I’m back. However…” the young General trailed off a little as her icy eyes settled on the Emperors face, and she took a deep breath. “I heard about your plight with the Xarain monarchy, and how the Xarians escaped with the help of the Rebellion. You must be humiliated,” she smirked again for an instant, but then it became stern. “But, are the bounty hunters necessary, Majesty? I mean, I’m sure you were only thinking about the good of the Empire, but to seek help from…” she paused to seek a more flattering word, and failed. “A band of thugs. Don’t you think that’s a little desperate? Couldn’t you have waited until I returned?”

Arkus grinned again. She must have guessed Arkus could see through her, and decided to try a different route.

"<What an interesting story," he said after a moment, "<But forgive me if I'm not intimidated. I have seen far worse in my lifetime. However, I do confess some curiousity as to why someone who has empiric citizenship would be allied with the Xarian King.>" Arkus wasn't sure was she had been trying to accomplish, but it didn't matter.

"<But perhaps, then, you're aren't passengers with the Xarian, in which case, I'll have to destroy your ship. I'm not particularly fond of Valkier's lackeys.>"

OOC:still being completely honest, he only works for valkier because of the evil alignment, and valkier has the deepest coffers in the galaxy.

Melia quickly pressed the "Suspend Sound Transmission" button before she slipped into the grating, inhuman lower Lekh in her frustration. "R'yarr rit rar nar! Sklehm vit hrar, Valkiei na no ya!!"

What about head bashing?

"Luddamn kriyaar sikht rit, HUMP IT START THE ENGINES!" Melia turned bodily and screeched at the crew. "It'd be an understatement to say I screwed us over with my less-than-masterful interrogation skills."

OOC:;__; Calienthe deliver our souls.
*Melia speaks a mixture of Lekh and Sindh. Most is Lekh, but "Valkiei" is Sindh--they have no hard sounds at the end of words & drop off the last R.

OOC:Translation: Smart bastard! What are YOU implying, I HATE Valkier!

Luddamn luck's run out, ~blahblah~!!

Akari gritted her teeth and dashed to Melia's side in front of the screen. She gripped Melia's arm. "Melia, calm yourself. Don't overreact or you'll blow everyone's cover. There's still a chance that we may be ok...", she said to the girl, releasing her grip on her arm as she finished. The queen raised her jade eyes up to look at the screen, and at the boy in front of her. From the corner of her mouth she whispered to Melia: "Whatever he has said to you, I doubt he's lying. Tell him we're escourting the mother of a well-to-do Empire Diplomat... or something of that nature.

"For our sake.. for the Republic's sake... I hope we get out of this alive.."

Valkier rolled his eyes until they locked with the those of the general. He did not like her take on his losing the Xarians at the last second. Humor did not befit the situation at hand.

"I have no doubt in your abilities, Elaina. You are probably one of my more promising tacticians," Valkier stated. "But I doubt you have the ability of clairvoyance. Those damned Xarians could be anywhere and I'm sure that if I sent common soldiers to find them I would get nothing."

Valkier rose from his chair and walked past Elaina, coming to a stop only several feet behind her. Back to back, by relative position.

"Bounty hunters think differently from soldiers. They are unique. They think creatively and have the right ideas when it comes to flushing out the prey. Now, I thought that if one of them could do just that," Valkier paused to glance back at his general. "What could I do with thirty thousand? Frankly, most of them will never come close to finding the Xarians, but I have no doubts that at least one will find them. At best he will infiltrate their HQ and bring them to me on a silver platter. At worst, he will have crashed a ship loaded with explosives into them. So, don't take my choice of trackers personally. See, I expect the best performance from everyone who serves me."

Valkier's eyes narrowed. "There is a special assignment I have planned for you and it will involve working with a certain team of operatives and mercenaries, the cream of the crop made into a customized Strike Squadron. You will be acting as their leader. But, before I give you this task, can I expect the best performance from you?"

Storming was injured and felt inadequate as he explained his choice of bounty hunters over his own army. Then again, they had failed in capturing the Xarians quite a few times. Elaina blamed herself with taking too long in the Hundorian System, but like her mother always told her, “You can’t do everything, my dear. Sacrifices must be made.” At the words “special assignment,” the young general’s ears twitched slightly, and the Emperor had her undivided attention.

Elaina hid her excitement with a small practiced smile, and turned slightly in Valkier’s direction. Her blue eyes danced like a child’s in a candy shop when she’s told she can have any treat her heart desires. “When have you ever required less, Majesty?” she asked calmly. “And when have I ever given you less than the best? I will give you all I have to give. That is the vow I gave to enter you service. Your wish is my command, My Lord. I will accept this task.”

Melia turned back around, reassured. She was ready to try again.
She pressed the button to talk to Rufo.

"Sorry. I was talking to the nurse about my injury..."
She pulled away the right flap of her robe to show her purple and swollen ribs, giggling softly. "I took a bad fall yesterday on the lower stairwell, and it still hurts when the pain meds wear off. Can't do much for broken ribs, ya know?"

"Hmm, you want to know what we're doing? Well... we're a crew of simple merchants, a pilot, and one nurse. ONE NURSE! Do you know how much it sucks to get sick around here?" Stahlflugel sighed, blowing a strand of hair out of her face.

"Anyways, we're transporting the mother of some well-to-do Empire Diplomat. She thinks she's special because the being that crawled out of her womb is an officer in Valkiei's 'Great Army', you know? And yet, she refuses to mix with us, calls us 'common rabble'. And pushes the cooks to the limit with her constant hunger pains. I myself've never seen the woman, as she's never called for me, but by her 'hunger' she must be the size of a baby whale."

"In fact," she nodded grimly, "It was one of these cooks racing to feed her greed that pushed me out of the way with his foot. I was sacrificed in favor of the Pasta Bolognese."

OOC:lawl. XD;

I think I have a plan of attack, Boots. Fire away~! (um, questions, I mean. Please don't shoot me.)

Arkus, for once, was nearly nonplussed by this strange display.

"What in the hell..." he muttered quietly. "Look, I don't know what you are about, but if you're going to keep pulling new and random ploys, then I have no choice but to take you in. I doubt my leader would like it if I left those who may be in Valkier's service to go free." As he spoke, he pressed a button on his console that jammed lightspeed frequencies. It needed a few seconds, so he had to keep them there....

***

Hawkes shook his head grimly. An alarm on the ship alerting of some kind of energy charging on the other ship.

"He's not buying it..." he said, racing back into the control room and hitting a few switches to prepare to jump to lightspeed and switching off the comscreen as well.

"If you have a plan, now's the time to say!" he yelled, firing up the cannons as well.

Valkier smiled softly. The devotion Elaina radiated was astounding as well as disturbing, but it made her all the more dangerous. That's how Valkier found her useful: fanatics always make the best warriors.

"Hmm... I had no doubts in your loyalty; just making sure that you were ready for a new assignment," Valkier grinned as he turned to face Elaina, staring straight into her eyes, excited eyes. "You will placed at the head of my latest team, a special assault squad for desperate emergencies."

Valkier walked past Elaina, passing her at a close distance, as he made his way to his desk. Standing over it, he began shuffling around random papers without care or finesse. Many reports landed on the floor from his wanton sorting. An especially heavy one filtered off the desk and would have hit the floor with a resounding thud if Valkier had not skillfully tore it out of the air at the last second.

"This is the report for the assembled team," said Valkier, shaking the folder in one hand for the general to see. "You have already been entered as the lead operative along with several others. Three of them are mercenaries who joined the Empire for a permanent job, they're assassins and rogues so you will have to keep your eye on them. The other two are distinguished officers in the fleet who were discharged for wild actions on their part. They're all rather insane but each one is cunning and perfect for the task at hand."

Valkier stepped forward to place the file in the eager general's hands. "You will be the group I want to destroy the Xarians if they should try to escape. See, the Trackers are monitoring the progress of one Arkus, that crazy bastard. If anything goes amiss, I want you to be the first one on the scene to make sure that no one leaves the scene alive. Use any methods neccessary but do not fail me. You are part of the black ops now and I cannot rescue you if you get captured. Understood?"

Stahlflugel was pissed. Not only had she failed, she was being taken for a traitor. She said to the now-black screen "Hump it, why do you assume I serve that gorramn tyrant? Who are you allied with? You're in Valkier's service too, maybe you should commit suicide."

Melia muttered, "Sitting on the fence gets pretty damn uncomfortable, and not just for physical reasons... Someday, we all have to choose our sides."

She got up from her seat, and walked over to a gun station. She adjusted everything to her height, and then waited for an order. Melia saw through he clear bubble of the turret, out into infinate space. "I wonder what they're doing. I wonder if Dad's still alive..." She pressed a hand to the Fiberglas, cold to the touch, and wished she could pass through it, through the millions of miles of space, to Amra.

OOC:Melia's sitting on the fence, also. She wants to help the Rebels, but she wants to help Amra, too... Homesickness sucks.

“I understand,” Elaina smiled genuinely, and gently took the file Valkier had just handed to her. She held it carefully as though it was some kind of treasure. “Don’t worry, Majesty; I can take care of myself.” When she worked in Intelligence, she had been caught, sometimes on purpose, and had always managed to escape on her own. She held the file open in one hand, and glanced at a few members of her team.

Have you made me the leader of a strike team, or a baby-sitter for an insane asylum? she thought skeptically as she closed the folder. However, she was still excited to have this assignment. Her blue eyes still shone brightly, and cheeks had turned rosy with delight.

“Thank you, Sire,” she said humbly, and she tucked a few stray hairs behind her ear. “I really am flattered that you gave me this opportunity. I hope I won’t disappoint you.” She made eye contact with her Emperor once more, and nodded respectfully. “Now, if you don’t mind, I would like to rest for at least a few hours before I have to leave again. Is there anything else I can do for you?”

Valkier grinned slyly. Then he took his stride and brushed past her until he came to stand in front of his fireplace.

"That will be all," he said enigmatically. "Make sure to get as much rest as possible. And don't worry about the team. As long as you never give them an inch they will follow every order you give them"

Valkier took his seat gracefully. Then, without any imperial resolve he twisted in his seat so his legs hung over one side and his back braced against the other.

Valkier twisted his head around to stare at Elaina. "You can go now, if you choose"

Elaina was caught slightly off guard by Valkier’s sly smile, and she felt herself blush slightly. She recovered quickly, and gave the Emperor an amused smile and shook her head slightly at the Emperor’s casual position. He looks like a big child sometimes, she thought to herself.

“Call me, if you need anything, Majesty,” she said with a nod and her face became emotionless once more as she straightened up and clicked her heels. Storming made an about face and walked toward the door with the file under her arm. Before she reached the door, Elaina looked over her shoulder to give him one last smile because as soon as she was out the door, she was completely professional.

Storming walked to her room, and waited for the door to shut behind her before she relaxed. She stretched turned on a light, and looked around her room. It looked just as she left it, nothing was out of place. She walked over to her desk, dropped the file on it with a thunk, and proceeded to take her coat off. She draped it over the chair, and sat down on her couch to take her boots and tie off, un-tucked her shirt and unbuttoned the top two buttons. Then she just sat still for a moment, and thought about everything. As she thought, she slowly undid her braid and ran her fingers through her ebony silk locks. They were slightly wavy from being in the braid, and she grabbed a brush from a nearby dresser. Her eyes closed as she slowly brushed her hair.

I can’t remember the last time I relaxed like this, she thought. She opened her eyes and they rested on the harp in the corner. She smiled, placed the brush back on the dresser, and sat on the little stool and began to play. The music flowed from her deft fingers until they ached from playing too much. Elaina picked up the file and curled up on the couch to see who she was dealing with.

The first two were the former military officers, who happened to be twins. They called themselves Gemini Haskingsons, since they were completely identical and no one could tell them apart. They figured it would just be easier to go by the same name. They were expert mechanics and hackers, complete geniuses, but completely out of control. The twins were discharged for repeatedly souping up military ships and using them for their own insane, irresponsible antics. They were also blamed for causing a massive power outage on a major base. There was practically an entire book on their crazy shenanigans, which she simply skimmed over. They were older than Elaina by a few years. Their shaggy hair was platinum blonde and their eyes were a shocking violet, which stood out against their almost translucent complexion.

The third was a rogue; the file on him was fairly limited. All she was given was a name, a few of his tactics, a little bit about his history with the Empire, and a picture. His name was Taurus Montana, and as far as she could see he was large, scarred and bald. One half of his face had three vertical, parallel scars as if he had been scratched by some kind of beast. His canines were huge and they protruded slightly out of his mouth like fangs. He was incredibly muscular, and he wielded incredibly large guns. He did odd jobs for the Empire for about three years and then decided to stick around. Elaina didn’t like the lack of information, but it would have to suffice until she met him.

The fourth member was named Sagittarius Mipolean. He was the oldest member ranging at 56 years old. His hair was shocking red with some grey streaks, and his eyes were bright green. His face was covered in an intricate tattoo, and he had a wild look about him that made him seem younger. He had been a sniper for the Empire for the last ten year, and usually took care of overly ambitious politicians for Valkier. He was also connected with thirty murders, but a lot of evidence was overlooked or destroyed, so he was never caught. She had heard of him, and was looking forward to meeting him face to face, but she’d have to be careful as well.

The information given for Taurus was generous compared to what she was given on the fifth and final member of the squadron. All she had was a name, and a single picture. His long hair was a rich golden color and it framed his face like a mane. His skin was a healthy tan, and his almond-shaped eyes shone like gold. He looked quite stern, and there was a glint in his eyes that seemed crazed to Elaina. All that was written for a name was Leo. The young general sifted through the rest of the file, and laid everything on the ground in front of her. However, her attempts to find any additional information were futile. She sighed and began to put everything back into a stack on her desk. The last file she grabbed was Leo’s. She studied the picture once more, and her eyes swept over the rest of the page. Suddenly a word scrawled down at the very bottom of the page snatched her attention. Assassin.

General Storming began to look through the rest of the file carefully. She played with her hair was she read, and would only move to stand up and stretch every once in a while. As she was reading she remembered a name Valkier had mentioned briefly. Arkus, the name echoed in her mind. I should have asked the Emperor about him before I left. Oh well, maybe later.

OOC:Wow… this was a lot longer than I wanted it to be… sorry guys… ^-^;

Akari frowned, crossing her arms and then covering her face with one hand. The Queen rubbed her temples slowly, struggling to think of what could possibly done to save them all now. As Hawkes dashed to try and go to lightspeed, Akari reached towards him, shouting: "I don't think that will work. If he thinks we're allies of Valkier's, or Xarians, I'm sure he would've done something to keep us from escaping. You can try, but from the sound of the ship's alarm I seriously doubt that we're capable of lightspeed right now." Nervous, Akari gripped Falcone's hand and glanced at him, worried.

"I hope you have a plan, mairei... because I don't..."
