OOC:Are we setting this in Karakura Town?

It was the last day of school before spring break. Leyna Gadek practically skipped the whole way home, overjoyed that she wouldn't have to read Japanese for a while. She could speak it proficiantly, but could not read it very well--no wonder, it was her fourth language.

It was sunny, not foreshadowing in any way the events that were about to take place--events that would change Leyna's life forever.

She decided to take a break by the river, because it was such a nice day. Leyna pulled a can of juice out from one of her backpack pockets, opened it, and began to drink it.

Then, she saw something in the shade of the bridge nearby. Something... oddly frightening. She heard screams, but others walking on the bridge did not stop to look, so Leyna thought, It must a ghost screaming! But why?

Leyna dropped her juice can and now-empty backpack, and ran for the bridge. She stopped quickly to grab a large piece of rusty pipe that was laying on the ground, but then kept going.

She went under the bridge, and caught up to it. It was large and black with a mask over its face, and it had a hole in its belly. What kind of monster is this? Gadek thought. I've never seen one before...

It swallowed the ghost in one gulp, and burped. "<Oh no, I'm too late!>" She whispered in Polish, sobbing a little, but growing very, very angry. "<That poor soul!>"

She narrowed her eyes at the hollow, a mid-sized one, and launched at it, hitting it with the pipe. It batted her down with the back of its hand easily.

Leyna, luckily, hit the grass, but she was still winded. She got back up slowly, because now everything hurt. "D-damn you," she coughed, and jumped at the hollow again. She focused on the hollow, and thought, I've got to protect everybody from this... this thing.

She scored a hit on its body, but the hollow whipped around and grabbed her, flinging her into the water. Leyna's shoulder hit a concrete block that had been thrown in, and was cut badly, soon becoming wet and sticky with blood.

She had a massive headache, and she felt like she had been run over, but she was still determined to win. Leyna picked herself up from the shallow water, hard because she was weaker now, and the water weighed down her clothes.

Leyna gritted her teeth, and ran at the hollow again and again. Unnoticed by her, as her determination grew, so did the aura around her. She amassed more and more spirit power, but didn't even know it existed.

But, others took notice--notably, other hollows. She thought she was just seeing double and triple images of the same hollow from loss of blood, but this was untrue. They were all around, and looking at her like she was a delectable treat.

All of her energy exausted, she collapsed to her knees, and then face-first onto the grass. "Nie..." she sighed painfully, eyes closing. "I..."

At that exact moment, a dark figure darted in and moved to Leyna's side, seizing her limp form and moving away at a high speed. The figure would have seemed to disappear and reappear to anyone watching, almost like teleporting over a short distance. However, there weren't many people who'd be able to see that person at that moment, because that person wasn't a human. They were a shinigami, more specifically the one currently assigned to Karakura Town. Leyna, perhaps, was the only one around who could possibly see him, though he didn't know it at the time. Landing a good distance away, he set down the girl softly on the grass, checking for injuries. Finding no serious wounds, he stood back up and looked around for the hollows. He found none, though he was still uneasy. He went about to using cloth from his sleeve to stem the blood flow from her shoulder. He sat down and began to keep a watch for hollows, should they return while she was still down.

OOC:my next post will depend on leyna's state of conciousness, and no, this is not nezei, this the current shinigami of karakura, currently unnamed. i'll leave the start in seireitei to dan

It was another beautiful day in Seireitei. Things had been going relatively well so far that month. There had been no reported incidents from the Academy, no Shinigami had been killed yet, and so far the CMC hadn't uncovered any unusual disturbances to worry about. Of course, this didn't mean that the Shinigami could relax. In fact, there were many that were even more tense because of the calm. Things had been so hectic before the beginning of this month that they viewed this easiness to be nothing more than the calm before the storm. So, several squads were even more active than normal, rushing about doing paperwork and generally keeping alert.

This was not true, however, for Eighth Squad. Because their main priorities were things like infiltration and assassination, having nothing going on meant nothing in particular to do. There was even an absence of paperwork -- at least, more than normal. For most of the squad, this meant short patrols and long breaks for cards or mah jong or anything else they could think of, within reason. For a certain Lieutentant and a few other high-ranking officers, this meant taking a few more risks than they had in a while.

Jidat, the Captain of Eighth Squad, woke up that morning feeling well-rested and energetic. He hopped out of bed and stretched, then began to walk outside onto the second-floor porch. He loved this place for several reasons. First and most importantly was the fantastic view it offered of Seireitei, thanks to its elevation. Second was the breeze it afforded, again because of the height. Last, was that it was so close to his office. The Captain ran a hand through his neatly brushed hair and -- "Wait a sec, why is this so neatly done at this hour?" It was then that he heard a long, lingering wolf whistle. Jidat slowly turned towards the source of the noise, finding it to be none other than the Eleventh Squad Captain -- Zaraki Kenpachi. He wasn't alone, however, He was with his Lieutenant and several other officers of various squads. And, they were all looking at Jidat.

It took him only a second before he realized what had happened. They had done it. Again. Only this time, they got him in his sleep. Jidat glanced down at himself with a mix of fear and anger. He was wearing a light blue dress with a satin belt to accompany it. His fingernails, he noticed, were carefully done and painted to match the dress. His toenails were too, he realized with horror. He didn't even want to know what they'd done with his face.

"Na..na...SE!!!" Jidat shouted with fury, knowing full well that it could have been none other than she who planned this. He spun around to find her standing with one hand over her mouth and the other clutching her stomach. Jidat screamed and leapt at her as she ran away, now laughing heartily.

"But Jidat!" Nanase managed to shout over her shoulder, "You're soooo adorable in that outfit!"

"Gyah! Shut up!" Jidat fumed, right at her heels. It took him a full five minutes to realize that he was still wearing the dress as he chased her throughout Seireitei. Five minutes after that, he was sitting on a pillow fuming, now in his Captain's outfit, as Nanase removed the makeup.

"I guess I didn't need so much blush, huh?" She said mischieviously. "You blushed plenty enough on your own."

"Shut UP!" Jidat retorted, crossing his arms. "I don't care how little we have to do around here, but I garuntee I'll find you and any accomplices plenty of paperwork to keep you busy for hours straight 'til we run out of paper!"

"And it will have been well worth it," She replied with a smile, removing the last bit of mascara. "There, you're done. Shame that all that work lasted not even twenty minutes!" Jidat said nothing, and stormed off to make up paperwork for them.

OOC: I couldn't resist! XD Anyway, I've gotta go, so... at least this was an "interesting" way to start the Seireitei day ^^;

"What...?" Leyna opened her eyes a crack, to see a strange guy by her side caring for her wounds. She grimaced, but eked out enough strength to sit up to look at him properly.

He was dressed in a black kimono with white lining, something that she had never seen before. With a little effort, she managed to ask him, "Who are you, and what was that... thing?"

The shinigami turned around upon hearing the girl's voice. He was plainly startled and confused.

"You...you can see me?" he said, the shock evident as his features paled. He should never have turned around, however, because he wouldn't have missed the hollow that suddenly appeared and smashed him into the wall where Leyna lay. /Damn.../ he thought, swiftly using kidou to blast the hollow back. But the others were coming, and there was no way he could hold them back. He turned to Leyna.

"Girl..." he said, spitting out blood. "Do you want to protect yourself, and the others in this town?"

"Y-yes," she stuttered, picking herself off the ground, not without pain. "What do I do? I mean, I tried to attack that thing before and I couldn't do anything! What do you expect me to do now?" Her voice cracked with desperation and fear.

"You wanted to see me Captain?" Nara said as he walked in to the Captain's office and knelt down on one knee with his fist on the ground.

"Yes." His Captain was facing a window in the room, his hands behind his back. "I recieved a report of unusual hollow activity in this sector, " He tossed an envelope to his subordinate, "Go there and take care of it, I'll be restricting your Spiritual power so you don't make too big of a disturbance."

Nara unfolded the envelopw. "Karakura Town?" He glanced at his Captain hoping for some sign of explanation, but none came. "Understood Captian Rekuzan." And with that Nara disappeared.

OOC:i gave permission for my character usage

After dismissing his lietenant, Nezei turned back to the window, noting a hell butterfly approaching. He held out one finger and let the butterfly land on it. He absorbed the information and swiftly departed for the Eighth Squad's headquarters. He entered through the open window to see Nanase chuckling and Jidat stomping away.

"Jidat-chan." he said evenly, "You and Nanase-kun are to join myself and Nara-kun in the investigation of abnormal hollow activity and high levels of reiatsu in Karakura Town. Meet me by the west Senkei gate immediately." He turned to leave and then stopped. Without so much as a grin sliding onto his face, he spoke to Jidat again.

"Oh, and Jidat-chan?" he said, glancing back at the 8th squad captain. "You're still wearing glittery nail polish. I recommend you clean that off." With that, he vanished.

OOC:okay, well, I didn't know that. @__@
buut since you give me permission, I will give him a name, and appearance :d

he is hayasaka takashi of the 8th Squad (rank and file), and he's a pretty typical Japanese dude--short, messy black hair, small in stature and build
he was assigned long-term to karakura to protect it from hollows

"To answer your questions, I am a shinigami, a protector of the living and guide for good souls trapped in this world. That is a hollow, a human soul gone bad. I beleive that's all you need to know for now." The shinigami unsheathed his zanpakutou. "Do you want to save everyone?"

"Yes," Gadek said, "But what..."

"Listen. When I pierce your heart with my zanpakutou, you will temporarily become a Shinigami so that you can defeat the hollow." If he had heard of the Kuchiki-Kurosaki incident beforehand, he might not have done this.

Leyna nodded gravely. "If that's what it takes, then I'll do it."

"I'm not sure if it'll work, so..."

"Give me it!" Leyna cried, voice shaking, and snatched away his sword. The hollows were advancing on the town... and on them.

She plunged the tip into her heart, and there was a flash of yellow-orange light. The Shinigami fell back, shielding his eyes. He now wore an entirely white kimono. He was just a human. "What? But I..." he whispered, trembling. "I only meant for half..." Quick, Takashi, pull yourself together, he thought. If I don't, there'll be major trouble.

He looked up at Leyna. That reiatsu! It was at least fukutaichou level to begin with! He shuddered. That was why all the hollows came around, he thought. She had all this power, but didn't know it. Something must have opened the tap, and... then she looked like a buffet.

Leyna was now dressed in Shinigami attire, black kimono over white, with straw sandals. She held a zanpakutou that was about the same size as usual, but it resembled a European backsword or saber instead of a katana. "You're right, I feel better equipped," Leyna said.

"No crap!" The Shinigami said, shaking his head. No crap, you took all of my powers! "Now, slice their masks in half, that's their weakness."

He dodged one behind him, and Leyna swooped in, stabbing it straight in the face. It disintegrated instantly.

Leyna leapt up to the bridge, then down at another hollow. She sliced off the arm it reached for her with, then sliced its mask off. It, too, vanished.

"Those are just the small ones, er..." The Shinigami said.

"Gadek Helena. But please, call me Leyna. And you?" She said, dispatching another hollow by slicing its mask in half widthwise.

"I'm Hayasaka Takashi, and we don’t have time for this,” he said, pointing to a larger hollow.

“Shit, you’re right, sorry,” she said, running towards the hollow. She leaped up on the bridge, and then its arm, and then slashed it in the face.

OOC:yeah, well, tell me if I did anything wrong >>

*about Leyna's sword--it's an Egyptian curved sabre, not European like Takashi thinks xD;;
and yes, that is Sekhmet in her unreleased form. She's special like Benihime :3

Chieko walked down the busy street smartly dress and primped. There was a tap on her shoulder and she turned to see a blinding flash.

"Toren!" she shouted, squeezing her eyes shut and shaking her head. "I swear if you ever do that again, I'll-"

"Good mornin' to you to, your highness," he smiled, looking through his camera. "Sleep well?"

"Not at all," she said. "I haven't had anyone call to rent the room! It's ridiculous! Who wouldn't want to share a penthouse apartment with an attractive, young woman?" she sighed and adjusted her purse strap. "I simply don't get it. I blame my crazy neighbors downstairs who claim it's haunted. I bet my father's paying them to say that so no one will rent the room."

"So... what are we doing today, boss?" Toren asked, wanting to change the subject. The only one that apartment didn't give the creeps to was Chieko. He got goosebumps just standing outside. Chieko had seen some wierd people in her apartment, but she blamed lack of sleep and food, acted like it never happened and didn't tell anyone about it.

"Some cat fasion show," she spat bitterly. Toren snapped a picture. She was the only one he knew who could look bitter yet adorable at the same time. "Kiddie stuff. I need a story. A big story, Toren! For crying outloud, cats have fur! They don't need clothes."

They turned to cross the bridge, and Chieko paused. Great, I'm dellusional during the day now, too... she thought, taking in the scene. "We'll take the long way," she grumbled, pulling Toren away from the strange and violent event that was taking place. She wanted to get away from the hallucination. If I had the money, I'd see a shrink.

"But... But we'll be late," he argued, pulling her back.

OOC: You call Jidat -chan, and Nanase -kun? Dude...

Also... yay, Amber's posted! :D

Jidat was visibly upset when he heard the orders. As he glanced at Nanase, he could tell that she was feeling quite the opposite -- indeed, she seemed quietly exstatic. The little captain knew why, however; it was the same reason why he was suddenly so glum, in fact. An assignment like this -- that is, requiring two captains and their lieutenants to go to the human world -- would probably not be resolved quickly, and would entail some level of thinking and planning. Besides that, they would be away from headquarters for an unpredictable amount of time. In short, Jidat would probably forget everything, and the paperwork would go unfiled and the guilty would go unpunished.

"Hold on now," he began to protest, "I'm... err... very busy right now, and can't be bothered to --" At that moment, he was interrupted by Rekuzan-taichou's parting words. He almost blushed as he looked with horror at his nails. He whipped around, eyes a-flame, only to find Nanase already halfway out of the office, struggling to keep from laughing as she ran. "NANASE!!!" Jidat shouted, making haste to follow.

Barely five minutes later, the two were once again in the Eighth Squad office. Jidat was hastily checking to make sure he didn't have any of the "embarassing gook" remaining. Nanase had assured him that she was done with the tricks, but he was past the point of trusting her on that issue. Satisfied, he walked over to the wall behind his desk to retrieve his Zanpakutou. He looked at it regretfully for a few seconds before tentatively reaching out to grab it from the wall-mounted wooden display. Though he loved the weapon -- in its unreleased state it was a better sword than he could ever have hoped to own in his life -- he didn't like carrying it around. He was well known for not wanting to shed blood if possible, and he felt that carrying it around would only lead to more of the hated bloodshed. Nevertheless, he knew that it was necessary to bring it just in case, and so he fastened the strings to the belt of his hakama and turned around.

"Ready?" Jidat asked, looking rather soberly at his lieutenant. Nanase had already retrieved her zanpakutou while he made sure the makeup was finally all gone. The two walked to the porch together and prepared to flash-step their way to the gate -- they were probably already late as it was. Right before they disappeared, Nanase turned to the captain and said sweetly, "Ya know, your hair really does look cute like that." Then, with a wink, she disappeared, getting a head-start as she flash-stepped her way to the gate. Jidat pulled his hair around and looked at it, then ran back into the office to a mirror. He didn't know how she'd done it, but his hair was meticulously styled. Much to his chagrin, his hair looked like that of many girls he'd seen in his trips to the human world. He slapped himself in the face -- this was yet another thing that he hadn't noticed, and by now there was surely nothing he could do -- and stomped morosely to the porch, disappearing after his lieutenant.

"I thought you said no more tricks?" Jidat asked Nanase in a very subdued manner. He was clearly irritated, but also was apparently feeling defeated; he had definately lost this battle, and yelling any more wouldn't help anything.

"It's not a trick!" responded Nanase innocently. "You don't do anything with your hair anyway, so I thought I'd help out! Besides, I don't know why but yours is just so much easier to work with than mine!"

"So you live out your... hair fantasies... vicariously through me?" Jidat would normally have been beside himself at the thought of this, but by now he was simply too tired of the whole mess and ready for something to help him forget.

"You could say that," Nanase responded with a warm smile. "Besides, it's fun to see you sweat a little! And besides, how many other guys are there out of the entire Gotei 13 who we could do this to? Ya know, most girls I know would enjoy being fussed over!"

"Nanase..." Jidat grumbled, the tiny bit of anger left in him piqued. "I'm not a girl. Nothing against them -- against you -- them... whatever. But, I am not, have never been, and will never be a girl."

"Oh, I know," Nanase said, still smiling broadly. She then elbowed him playfully as she said, "But you sure make a cute one!" Jidat sighed and slapped his palm to his face again before looking around impatiently for Nezei.

"Oooi, where's Neru-san* and Oyasumi-san*? Let's get this thing over with!" said Jidat frustratedly. Too many more comments about his hair or him looking effeminate might drive him crazy. At least if they were on a mission, he might have something to distract him for a while.

OOC: * These are both plays (not exactly puns) on Nezei and Nara's names. Neru is for Nezei, while Oyasumi is for Narasumi. "Neru" means "to sleep," and "Oyasumi" is the equivalent of "Good night." Just some pun-ish nicknames that Jidat uses ^^ Whether or not your character likes them, of course, is up to you all.

"Over here." Nezei said, leaning against the wall of the building behind them. "Nara has already gone through, and I was waiting for you two." He began walking towards the gate, calmly as was his fashion. As he passed Jidat, however, he spoke almost plainly and matter of factly as he said,

"That dress clashed with your eyes."

With that, he enter the Senkei gate and was gone.

"Don't get over confident!" Takashi said, but he failed to realized that while Leyna had the powers of a death god, she had no experience using them, and, as such, had no way of sensing the reiatsu of the hollow in her blind spot. Even though he lacked his powers, Takashi summoned the will through the pain to leap up in the way of the hollow's attack. The hollows teeth sunk into him, opening deeper wounds and nearly tearing off his arm. Takashi was then hit by the hollow's thick arm, and he flew into the wall of the bridge, cracking his skull against the stone and then knew no more.

OOC:he's not just dead yet, but soon.

Leyna turned around and saw Takashi get attacked, as if in slow-mo. "Nie!" She cried, running over to feel his pulse. It was slow and weak, and the head injury was a mortal one--he would die soon, with little pain seeing as he was unconscious.

Leyna gulped, throat closing with sadness. He had died protecting her, a noble death to be sure, and she would have probably died if he had not blocked that attack. But, now that he was dead, what was she to do?

First, I've got to take care of these hollows somehow, and then I've got to give him a proper burial, or at least a blessing. I barely knew him, but he at least deserves that,
she thought.

Gadek backed up, back to the wall. At least now no Hollows could attack her from behind. She only hoped that she would be able to hold out here until help of some kind arrived... if it ever did...
