"Nice digs..." She remarked, whistling. "So, what are we doing, Sir... uh... I have forgotten your name, dear sir, and I also can't recall the name of this lovely woman here..."
It was obvious from her facial expression and motions that she had not literally forgotten their names, she was asking them what names she could call them by tonight. She bowed deeply. "Terribly sorry to have gone the whole carriage ride without introducing myself. I am called Jared Johnson, pleasure to meet you both." Jenny smiled and winked when she came out of the bow. ----- Aiden looked at Valerie with a bemused look. "Hell, I've seen you clamber up and down the mast ten times in a row like a little spider monkey and never get tired. Surely you've got more stamina in you than that." He paused. "You'd better, as we've got the whole night in front of us..." They entered the ball, and checked in at the front. "Valerie Heckett and James Aiden," Aiden said to the man standing at a podium. "Right, go ahead," He said, checking off their names. "Hope you enjoy your night." "Yeah, right," Aiden muttered darkly. "Anyways... Pretty nice party," he commented, which was a gross understatement. Apparently the decorators had heard the Queen was coming, as they had decorated appropriately. There was a raised stage to the left of the grand stairs, and to the right, a massive bank of food and drinks. There was an open area in the middle under several large crystal chandeliers, and on the sides, there were tables. OOC:I dunno what more I can do... Someone else go >__> |

She nearly tripped over the skirts getting out of the carriage, but managed to grab Frost's arm before she made any obvious blunder. Still, she was certain he could tell that she was leaning most of her weight on him, trying to keep her balance and her breath all at once. "What am I supposed to call you, then?" she whispered, quietly enough that only he would be able to hear her-- the last thing she wanted was to cause this whole thing to fail. "And what's my name supposed to be?" She wasn't certain if 'Marguerite' was too close to 'Marc.' Or maybe people would simply call her 'Mrs. Radley'? I'll have to listen for that, then, she thought. It wouldn't do to have someone calling her name and give no response.
She managed the stairs all right, still using the Captain-- Mr. Radley, she corrected herself-- as a crutch. Her hair was getting annoying. She used one hand to push a curl behind one ear, not yet used to wearing it down. It looked pretty, she was sure, and judging by the other ladies, it was certainly appropriate, but she would have given anything to be allowed to tie it back. And take off the corset. |

"Enjoy... how does one enjoy a party this boring? You find more life in a grave yard," she murmured, fanning herself. She was slowly getting used to the confing clothing once again; it was like riding a horse in the sense that it always comes back to you. She held the fan over the lower half of her face to hide a yawn. "When do I get to leave this snooze fest anyway?" she asked, keeping her voice low. |

Unless they can get exceedingly lucky and guess someone's name on the list, I suggest that they sneak in through a back window and then assimilate with the crowd... "That's true, monkey girl," Aiden said, edges of his mouth beginning to twitch. Just smile and nod, he thought, waving to other officers and their wives. "I'd much rather be chasing pirates," he muttered. Little did he know that later that same night, he would get the chance. Aiden looked at Heckett. "Unfortunately, we have no control over when we can go... We leave when the Admiral of the Fleet or the Queen breaks up the party. Hopefully they're not party animals." He steered them over to the buffet, and asked Valerie, "Are you hungry, milady?" Only she was close enough to see his eye twitching, fortunately for him. |

"Mrs. Redford, you may of course call me whatever you pleases you," Radley said without hesitation, both for Marguerite and for Jenny. It wasn't necessarily that he was a good actor -- he had, of course, no practice in such arts. It was simply that he showed so little expression that even lying didn't phase him. The one unusual thing, however, was the soft hint of a smile that he offered her. It seemed natural to any ignorant observer, but to anyone else it was like seeing one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. Captain Jack Frost does not smile, ever. "Enjoy the smiles while you can," he whispered secretively, perhaps more to himself than anyone else. "Tonight's it." He then offered Marguerite his arm and set off at his usual brisk pace. Frost wondered if his "wife" would be able to keep up, but shoved the thought aside. It would be silly to treat her as less capable than he had just because he knew she was a woman. Besides, she had a good grip on his arm and should have no problem letting him know if he's walking too fast. |

She's totally gonna call him that. Except, not. But if she has to make up a first name for him, it's Robert.
Marguerite's eyes widened when she saw an expression-- an expression, not just a variation on nothingness-- but she covered up her surprise tolerably well, and even offered a smile in return. "I will, then," she said quietly, carefully looking at everything except her "husband." The situation was weird enough without mention of smiles and such. "No use passing up such an opportunity, Mr. Redford." She continued to lean on his arm, thinking that perhaps she would be able to get through this without looking completely stupid... And then he began to walk. In any other outfit, Marguerite would have had no problem keeping up. As it was, she felt as though she was running, and it didn't help that she would have been literally incapable of catching her breath even if she'd been standing perfectly still. "Mr. Johnson," she hissed, trying very hard not to trip over herself as she kept up with the Captain, "have you any idea how a woman is supposed to breathe in one of these things?" The question-- or rather, the gender of the addressee--would have seemed strange to anyone watching. Luckily, Marguerite's voice was low enough and there were few enough people around that nobody would have been close enough to hear. She was perfectly aware that, as Frost's "wife," she was supposed to be used to wearing dresses, corsets included. But Jenny-- Mr. Johnson-- had been giving her knowing glances all day, and she was fairly certain that Frost was not the only one who knew, or at least suspected, that Marc was not in fact ill. Luckily, she trusted Jenny. Perhaps it was simply that she had something in common with her... women were rare on pirate ships, after all. They made it to the top of the stairs without any mishaps, and Marguerite was left to stare at the splendor just beyond the doors. Colors and rich-looking fabrics and decorations lined every surface visible from outside, and the chandeliers sent sparkling lights throughout the room. They twinkled merrily, giving the entire room a glowing ambience. Marguerite's grip on Frost's arm tightened considerably; this time, however, it was out of pleasant surprise than a lack of air. She caught herself staring and stopped, deciding that she'd have plenty of time to admire things later. |

"Ha, if I were anywhere else, Mr. Redford, I'd probably wet myself laughing, but you know... Fancy ball and stuff. But I'll be sure to save some of the hysteria for later."
She turned to Marguerite when she whispered to her. "Er... There isn't much you can do... Just keep activity to a minimum, and graze- you know, eat an appetizer here or there, a sip of water. If you sit down to a meal, you'll likely kill yourself, because, as you, found out, those things give as much as if they were made of iron mesh and rods." Jenny looked at Marguerite's stunned expression, and chuckled. "Yeah, this is pretty nice," She yawned. "But there's never any entertainment..." OOC:Er, my suggestion is to stay away from Aiden for a while, because as soon as he spots them, he'll try to kill Jenny and raise a ruckus...
Or maybe not, as he realizes that it would look suspicious and ruin the night... OMG. That's what should happen, totally. He notices them after a while, but has to hold himself in... but near the end he loses it xD |

She didn't take offence to it, in it's way it was the closest she could ever get to a true compliment from Aiden. "I'm not quite hungry just yet."
You prick, her eyes told him, as she glared at him dully. As if I could eat anything in this stupid corset. Thanks for rubbing it in. |

Aiden sneered. "Oh, that's right, if you eat anything, you'll implode. Sorry." He grabbed a cocktail shrimp and devoured it, throwing the tail away in the trash. "Well... We're not doing anything, so I guess we should go sit down," he said, steering her towards the tables. |

"I should have eaten more before I left," she thought aloud. "Then maybe I would have more room..." She waited for Aiden to pull a seat out for her before she sat down. She looked around the room for anyone she knew, but, of course, she did not associate much with high society, so she did not know anyone at these big, fancy- Just a moment, Valerie thought closing her fan and narrowing her eyes. A small group of men and farily ugly women, were being led by someone of previous acquaintance, who was in the company a a lovely young woman who she didn't quite recognize. Radley? she thought, watching him carefully for a moment out of the corner of her eye, and she started to fan herself to hide most of her face to keep from being noticed. Sure enough it is him, but there be something wrong with his face... oh, he's just smiling. Then she began to study the other members of the party more carefully. Well, well, well, Jennifer Johnson? Oo, James is gonna love this... she turned away from the pirates and grinned mischieviously. "Jaaaamesss, I know something you don't know," she said in a sing song tone. |

I don't know why, but his was the first name that popped into my head. And he's cool, so I thought "Let's go with that." So I did.
Frost walked calmly into the ballroom, inclining his head politely to the door attendant. He didn't notice anyone else with their invitations out, and so assumed that he would only need to use his name. "Mr. and Mrs. Redford, my good sir," the captain said evenly. Apparently, he didn't see any reason to offer the man a smile. The man looked up from his podium and his eyes widened slightly, but he quickly caught himself, looked back down at something, and then back up again. "Welcome, please enjoy the ball," he said pleasantly. Radley took note of the man's reaction, but didn't say anything until they were safely lost within the crowd. The man at the podium didn't do anything until about the same time, either. Very subtly, he called someone over and handed them a note. The person apparently understood, and walked off with a sense of urgency. "I've a bad feeling about this," Frost confided in Marguerite quietly. "We must act fast. Everyone else is fine, but I need you to distract that high-ranking officer over there, by Valerie Heckett. He might recognize me, but he won't know you. I trust your knowledge and skill, just don't faint or something problematic like that." He hesitated, glancing at the quartet that was playing and the number of people dancing. "We'd better dance first, though." Another smile, just as fake as the first. He might have thought the idea interesting or even exciting -- after all, how often do pirates get the chance to waltz with a lady? -- but it was nearly impossible to tell. The smile didn't help, of course, for anyone that knew him. Those eyes, though... "It might be suspicious if I don't dance with my "wife" before someone else." OOC: Amelia, I guess Jenny was told about the map behind some painting... I'll let you take care of it somehow ;) Also, Frost's plan is obviously to have a quiet discussion with Heckett -- probably on the dance floor, where she can't make too much of a fuss if she decides not to be helpful. |

Everyone that was around him for more than five minutes at a time hated his abrasiveness and cruelty.
He pulled out a chair for Heckett, then sat down in the chair beside her. Then, she taunted him, claiming to know something that he didn't know. "What," Aiden said gruffly. "It better be good." He took a sip from a goblet of wine that had been set out at his place. Over the rim, he could see what Heckett had been teasing him about. His eyes widened in shock, and he promptly spat out the wine in his mouth. He coughed and spluttered out, "T-the pirates!!" ----- Jenny looked over just in time to see Aiden make a complete fool out of himself by spitting red wine all over the nice white tablecloth. "Nice," she chuckled. With a Cheshire-cat like grin on her face, and chuckling madly, she realized, He can't do anything to us. He can't because he'd hurt himself far more than us--the ball would likely be canceled, and he would be demoted. She turned to the others, still giggling. "Mind... mind if we... Oh God, I can't even get it out." Jenny cleared her throat, and tried again. "Mind if we sit with the Admiral and Lady Heckett far a bit?" OOC:LOL... You can probably guess what comes next, but maybe not. |

I'm not that funny," Valerie said delicately with a dainty little laugh as she lightly slapped him on the shoulder with her closed fan. She was incredibly thankful that she was sitting next to him and not across from him. Aiden spittle? Ew, no, thank you.
"Don't make such a fuss, or they'll know that we know that they're here, and that will ruin the surprise that we're not surprised that they tried to surprise us. Savvy?" she asked grinning ear from ear at him. He looked absolutely livid at the moment, and that was the James she knew and loathed. "Just relax, James. We'll get them soon enough." |

Marguerite didn't much feel like distracting anyone at the moment, and his directions not to faint might prove to be rather difficult to follow, but she had, after all, come here for a reason. And as problematic as dancing may be in a corset like this, it had to be done.
Besides, she decided, she could probably stay conscious long enough to pick a good distraction time. A fainting lady would, she imagined, occupy everyone's attention for long enough to allow Frost and Jenny to do whatever it was that they needed to do. So she'd just have to hold on 'til then. ~~~~~~~ OOC:And... enter Philip. It's just a little cameo, so I figured it'd be okay without submitting a character profile. This ball is probably the only time he'll actually shop up. Let me know if there're any problems.
"Miss Heckett. I must say, you look--" Positively wild--"quite lovely." Philip offered the lady-- Ha, he thought, some lady-- a short bow, and turned to the man sitting next to her. "James Aiden," he said simply, bowing his head every so slightly. He had no great admiration for the man, and didn't even bother to use his title; as far as Philip was concerned, the man was a crude brownnoser with no right to be in a place such as this. Probably came hoping to get promoted, he thought, trying hard not to laugh at the notion. He glanced back at his father, who was standing with a group of people not far away. The man was old, and a little senile, and Philip couldn't help but feel a certain protective instinct... payment, he supposed, for all the protecting his father had done for him over the years. He was pleased to see that his father appeared to be enjoying himself more than he had in a long time; that is, he looked alive, which was more than he'd looked since he'd begun his crazy search for that girl. Keats? Karney? Kearney? Something like that, anyway. Satisfied that his father was in good hands, he turned back to the two in front of him. "Enjoying ourselves, I hope?" |

"It's been much too long. You're looking quite grand tonight." she glanced back at Aiden and then nodded. "And yes actually, I am enjoying myself. I don't think I've ever had this much fun at a ball."
Oops, I've said too much, Valerie's mind raced. His father maybe a bit senile, but Philip was sharp and knew her perhaps too well. I hate these parties and he knows that. He'll get suspicious, and I don't want him to find out their are pirates about and ruin my fun before it even gets started. "But then again, having James hammer red hot iron nails into my eyes sounds as fun as staying here," Valerie continued. "Where is your father? I'll have to go say hello to him before the night is through. How is the dear old man? Won't you tell me?" |
