It was unfortunate that no matter how much they respected their captain, pirates had a tendency to lose discipline when exciting things were happening. For the moment, the folks in the crow's nest were too busy to notice the navy's approaching vessel. In the meantime, Frost was about to reap the spoils of someone else's labor, not to mention turn a long-time rival into a prisoner. If ever there was a time when he considered consciously expending the energy to make some sort of expression, this was it.

He only considered it, of course.

"Marc, bring us close enough to board," he said with what could be called enthusiasm. That is, someone who had been at sea with Radley for a while and who had really good ears might call it enthusiasm. "You may lead the first boarding crew. Their captain and any who surrenders immediately shall be a prisoner. The rest... as you wish."

OOC: Hopefully they won't be blind *too* long...

"Aye, Captain," called Marc, her enthusiasm much more obvious than Frost's. She took over the helmsman's position, shoving the poor man out of the way and steering the ship a little closer. "All right," she called out to the boarding crew-- who she selected by grabbing a few random men's sleeves and dragging them alongside her-- "you heard the Captain!"

They swarmed the ship, which had already sunk dangerously low in the water. No sense putting off a good fight, though, so Marc selected one of the other ship's pirates and drew her sword.

One look at her, and he ran.

She chased him, not entirely certain why he hadn't yet turned to fight her, or even drawn his sword. His bald head shone with perspiration, and he carried a bucket still half-full of water. It didn't take her long to corner him, and she made a short job of knocking him to the floor; he hadn't even put up a fight, she thought, disappointed. "Where's your captain?" she asked, thinking that perhaps she wouldn't kill him. He had, after all, surrendered, or at least not fought, and as much as she despised him for that she would not ignore the Captain's orders. "'F you wanna live, you'll take me to the Captain."

"Of--of course, sir, uh, Mr. Pirate Sir." The man scrambled to his feet and eyed her sword, obviously scared. It was still level with his throat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Captain!" called Steve, as he approached her. "Captain Jenny, there's a mean pirate who wants to talk to you."
The mean pirate rolled his eyes and shoved Steve rudely to the side. He was going to say something about how you should say sorry when you push someone, but another look at the sword in the pirate's hand silenced that thought.
"Captain?" said the pirate, sword still out. He looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself. "I'm supposed to give you a chance to surrender before I do anything."
Jenny turned around and looked down her pipe at Marc. She smirked. "Looking for a fight, aren't you, boy? Unfortunately for you, you're not going to get one..."
Suddenly, a look of shock crossed her face. "I almost let my good leg go to waste... Be right back." She dashed down to her quarters, which were nearly filled now. Jenny dove in, and retrieved the prosthetic she felt she couldn't live without.
Emerging on deck, she tossed it to Steve, and said, "At least make yourself useful by carrying this..." She then shook the excess water off her clothes and hair. After that, she said to Marc, "So, uh, what does Frosty the Snowman want from me, little man?" She blew a smoke ring or two in mock-boredom, but really, she was quite worried that he would make some rediculous demand. But, then again, was anything else he could do to her any worse than the shame already brought down upon her? No, not really.
---
Aiden looked in the telescope again. "Bloody hell, no wonder they haven't noticed us yet. They're either rescuing, or capturing the other ship." By now, they were close enough to where Aiden could make out faces when the telescope was turned to a high power.
On Frost's ship, he could see several of his men scurrying about, and Frost himself was looking towards the sinking ship. "But... I wonder, who's the captain of the mystery ship?"
He turned to look at the other ship. A woman with long, blonde hair and an eyepatch stood above the rest, and seemed to be giving orders. The captain, probably. Something about her seemed familiar, it was right there on his mind, waiting to be remembered. "Hmh..."
Valerie snatched her telescope back and looked through it. Radley and Johnson? she thought. They hate each other! There will probably be some blood shed.
"Given the circumstances," Valerie said, glancing up at Aiden. "The two captains aboard the Enterprise are not the best o' friends. They may just kill each other off and leave us with the leftovers. However, if they see us as a threat, they may get along to fight us. If that's the case..." She looked around the ship, "We could take 'em." She looked through the telescope. They'll be in range of the long nines soon, and then we can blow a few into their little boat..."
Valerie looked at the captain, and grinned from ear to ear, knowing that he hated when she gave him suggestions.
"Not that my opinion matters much, aye, cap'n?" the pirate hunter snickered.
OOC:Aiden hasn't told anyone about Jenny that didn't know him at that time... for obvious reasons... Just so you know. And it's been like 20 years since either of them have seen each other, so they're gonna be really surprised. xD
"That'd be good if they killed each other off, but it doesn't seem likely." He turned to the crew. "Load the long nines and fire when we're in range."
"Right."
Aiden looked to Heckett with a rather bored-looking expression. "Honestly... Your opinion only matters if it agrees with my own." But there was an undertone of If Griffin wasn't protecting you, you'd be dead as a friggin' doornail, Heckett... And his eyes showed it.
"Of course, James," Valerie grinned like a fox at him. Her bright blue eyes laughed at him, mocking his predicament and him personally. Aiden scared a lot of people, and she had to admit that he was frightening, but she still had too much fun bugging the crap out of him to care.
No one is more grateful for Griffin than I am... I should ask for a raise the next time I see him...
"Well, then," she turned her back on him without fear and started to walk away.
Aiden had given up on Valerie long ago. Don't you dare... augh! He thought, but kept it in. He was getting somewhat better at keeping himself sane around Heckett. He clenched his hands tightly around the rail to keep himself from doing something stupid.
Mind off of the urchin... He thought. Mind on the battle. He looked to the two ships in the distance, growing ever nearer. I wonder who that woman is... I guess I'll find out pretty soon. It's time. "Fire!" He cried, pointing to the ships.
"Like taking candy from a baby," Aiden snickered.
---
There was a loud whistling, and a few splashes. "We're being fired at?!" Jenny exclaimed, looking around. She turned fully around, to see a Navy ship, and quite close. "Oh, the Navy."
Then, there was another series of loud whistling noises, and explosions and splashes. This time, one of the cannonballs ripped through the side of Jenny's ship, throwing splinters everywhere. Most were only small enough to cause someone a minor annoyance, but the ones thrown off where the cannonball connected by the ship--not far from Narcotic Jenny--were quite large.
Jenny looked down, when she noticed something dripping on her boot. "Man... I just got better from losing my leg...." She grabbed the huge splinter, and ripped it out of the side of her belly. Jenny then took off her shirt, and wrapped it several times around the wound. She should have been cold in just her undershirt like that, and any normal woman would have fainted from being impaled in such a fashion, but she couldn't feel jack.
"Anyways... We'd better get over to Frosty McFrostFrost's ship before we either go to the Locker or get blown up..."
OOC:The splinter hit her on the side of her stomach, missing any major organs, but in any normal person it'd hurt like hell and they'd probably go crazy because of the pain.... But she needs to stitch herself up and stop the bleeding...
That man must be seriously committed to his job. He has been know to shoot anyone who disagrees with him, hating women and pirates, and Valerie was the epitome of just about all of them. He was perfectly capable of hurting, even killing Valerie (in a fair fight). She learned of how he beat his young wife, who disappeared, and there are rumors that say he killed her and hid the body, but Val was unsure whether to believe them or not. Valerie watched the crews’ reactions to the cannon fire through the telescope.
Captain Johnson, she smiled. The woman looks like she got chewed up and spit out. Jennifer seemed to have appeared over night. Valerie did not know much about her except that she loved narcotics, she had a grudge against the Navy and men, and that she was paralyzed from the neck down. She guessed that she was betrayed by her lover, tried to kill herself but only succeeded in paralyzing her body… and then she decided to become a pirate. It did not make much sense but, oh well!
OOC: Just as a note... you can't simultaneously fire at us and get closer. I'm sure you know that, but... yeah. Also, is James' ship closer to mine or Jenny's?
Frost heard what sounded like a cannon shot somewhere in the distance, but didn't believe it until he saw the shrapnel flying about on Jenny's ship. He whirled around and stared straight at their Navy pursuers. He narrowed his eyes, taking out his telescope and counting the guns on the side of the ship. Just what I wanted, the captain thought bitterly.
"Crow's nest, you're now working the cannons," Radley boomed, spewing orders. "Somebody get me more competent observers up there! I want one at least volley back at them before they can fire. Anyone with nothing better to do, get over there and tell Marc to bring everyone back over. Grab what you can and move fast! Go!"
Captain Frost did not like surprises, especially when they were propelled by gunpowder and could tear holes in his ship.
Marc was already halfway back to Frost's ship before the messengers got to her. She'd begun her return trip as soon as she'd heard the first shots ring out, and although she took a moment to look at Jenny's wound in disgust, she made it back in good time. She even ignored the nickname; normally, she would have at least thwacked the other woman for that, but she supposed a splinter to the side could do things to a person. Marc herself would've been screaming by this point, but Jenny seemed perfectly calm.
"Captain," she called, as she reboarded Frost's ship, Steve and Jenny in tow. "I found their captain, Captain!" She shoved the two of them toward Radley, sword still in hand, and waited for orders-- she could, she supposed, make herself useful by helping with the cannons, but they seemed to be fully manned at the moment, and she wasn't certain whether Frost wanted anything else done at the moment.
OOC:@Dan: Oops, sorry I guess. >__<;; But it should be noted that sailing ships don't just stop.
Erm, as it stands, Jenny's ship is closer than Aiden's, which is still quite far off (within cannon range, though)
@Mo: Jenny's lost all feeling, she's not paralyzed xD If she was, she couldn't move. I've made the same mistake *several* times now >__<
Silly paralysis.
The gunpowder was thick in the air, Aiden liked the smell. "Half of you, get to the sails. I'll steer us alongside, and then take 'em down for now... Wouldn't want to sail past them." He turned around, eyes wide, exhilarated fully for the fight. "The other half of you, move to the side we'll be coming alongside at and reload!"
He trotted over to the wheel, and spun it to the right. His ponytail and coattails whipped in the wind. "Let's do this!!"
---
Jenny looked out over the water as she and the others made the crossing. "Fucking Navy," she muttered, with real hate.
When Marc brought her to the captain, she said, "Yeah, Frosty, uh... I'm bleeding all over your nice, shiny deck... do you have a doctor onboard? Or at least some sterile thread and a needle..." She poked at her wound a bit. "It's bubbling up, something tells me that's not good..."
OOC: Okay, so Jenny's ship is sort of in the way of half my cannons then... cool
The last of Frost's men hopped back over with shiny things under their arms. There were still a few of Jenny's crew on her ship, but they didn't affect Frost. He might have waited for them, maybe, but as it was there were large pieces of metal being hurled at his ship and he didn't have time to play nice. "Bend the sails," he commanded. "I want as much speed as she can give. When we're clear of that wreck, fire a volley and turn with the wind."
His commands issued, the captain turned and looked Jenny up and down, assessing her wounds. It was unfortunate, but she did seem to need attention. As little as he cared for her life, he felt that it would be more interesting to keep her alive as a crew member.
"Bring up the doctor," he said flatly. Then, turning to Steve, "Who is this? Why is he on my bridge?"
"That sucks..." Jenny called to the remaining men on her ship. "Use the wreckage and dead bodies as a raft..."
She turned to Frost again, saying, "Thanks for remembering that you have to keep me alive to torture me, Frosty von Frosterson." She pointed to Steve with her thumb. "Oh him... His name's Steve." Jenny gave him a look that said Don't tell him your nickname, and she winked at him.
OOC:Haha, she's inflicting Steve upon your crew xD Frost'll figure things out eventually, though...
Steve began to spout jibberish in a panicked frenzy. This new captain scared him; he had no expressions, and that didn't help his nerves. Nor did the fact that the young pirate boy still had his sword out and at Steve's throat. "I'm sorry, I followed Captain Jenny because our ship was sinking and the sharks were gonna eat us, Frosty McFrostFrost--" he knew this man by no other name than the one his Captain had used-- "and I didn't wanna die because we were sinking and I was the only one bailing and there were sharks, Captain FrostFrost, and I didn't know what to do so I followed the meanie pirate because I didn't wanna die and I--"
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Marc glared at the unconscious Steve, finally putting her sword away. That'll leave a mark, she thought, glad that the hilt of her sword was so sturdy. It turned out to be quite as useful as the blade, sometimes.

"Sorry, Captain," she said, a little sheepish. "But I couldn't listen to him jabber on anymore."

OOC: Meanie! You bad, I will tell on you! XD

Captain Frost simply nodded his approval of Marc's course of action. He might have done it himself if Marc hadn't beaten him to it.

"Get someone to wipe up that mess and toss it in the brig," he said flatly to nobody in particular. He looked up at his sails and watched his crew unfurl them and open them as wide as possible. He then glanced back at the Navy ship in the distance. "Jenny, before we leave, you don't have anything interesting on that wreck do you? Don't be a hero."
