Elayne giggled at Morrighan's comment about the ice cream, stifling it as well as she could by covering her mouth with her hand. That actually sounded like a lot of fun, and a great way to start the year. Still, she was certain that her brother would not approve, and besides the two prefects in the room there was a new teacher! It did sound rather like she wouldn't disapprove, Elayne decided that it was prudent not to get on her bad side -- especially if she ever wanted to join the dueling club! Proud that she had thought that through so clearly, she folded her arms and sat back in her chair with a satisfied smile. On the other hand, a cog turned in Felix's mind when he saw Patrick's mouth form the words "prefect." He was so caught up in the awkward dynamics between this new teacher and her brother that he'd neglected to go to the Prefect's car! Of course, it probably had more to do with not wanting to leave his dear sister alone with such strange people -- even if he knew that she could handle herself quite well. Resigning himself to his duties, he stood up and pointed to where the Prefect badge usually was clipped to his robes as an explanation, and turned immediately from his seat next to the door and headed out. Unfortunately, because he was facing the completely opposite direction he hadn't noticed the door sliding open, nor the introduction of the girl who stood inside its frame. It was only after he'd slammed head-first into her that he noticed. Felix staggered back, clutching one hand to his forehead, and raising the other in a sign of apology. Before he'd even opened his eyes, his sister had nearly screamed the question he'd been trying to form in his rather dazed mind. "Ohmygoshareyouokay?" Elayne looked back and forth from her brother to the new girl. |

Patrick said. "Cool! But, uh, you know, we don't have to sit in the prefect car. It's not like they take attendance..."
He winced as Felix collided with Evangeline. "That sounded like it hurt, but you both seem to be okay." Morrighan said. "Anyways... yeah, we've got room." She stacked her bag on top of Patrick's to make room for Evangeline's bags, and then scooted closer to Patrick. At that time, Bob decided to make an appearance again. He sniffed Evangeline, batted at her foot, then jumped up to Morrighan's lap. OOC:The batting was like "hey, you're tough, I'm tough too!", like how gusy punch each other lightly in greeting or something >__>
OMG Death at a Funeral looks hilarious and Stardust looks sooo gooddd~ I wanna see them soon~ PS. Who's excited for college? |

"S'okay. I'm fine," she said, swinging her trunk up to occupy the space Morrighan had just cleared out for her. She didn't turn back to Felix as she asked, "How about you?" Had she known that he wouldn't have had a clue she'd spoken, she would have at least made the effort to turn around so he could read her lips... but she assumed that he, like everyone else in the compartment, could hear her just fine. His lack of a verbal apology (she hadn't noted his nonverbal attempt) struck her as a little odd, but she figured he'd just been a little stunned.
When an answer was not immediate, she glanced back at Felix over her shoulder, then turned back to her trunk, scooting it further in so it wouldn't topple off and hit someone in the head. "God," she said, still not facing him, her voice light and obviously joking. "I know I'm gorgeous, but you don't have to be so speechless. You didn't hit me that hard." |

His lips were pursed and slightly off-center in an expression that clearly said, "You should still go." Even if he would have rather stayed to make sure this new person -- a girl, he noticed, though he couldn't see her face -- wasn't injured seriously, he felt that he would have to at least drop by the Prefect car to get instructions and such. The inquiring glance he tossed his sister was met with only an uncertain shrug and a vague look of concern. Well, he thought, I suppose it's my duty to see that she's alright.
Felix made for his bag to grab a quill and parchment -- would she understand sign language? No, probably not -- and hastily scribbled a question in his uniquely loopy, slanted, almost-neat handwriting: "Are you alright? I didn't see you come in." Feeling as awkward as he always felt when handing people notes in lieu of words, even after doing it since he learned to write, he tapped on the girl's shoulder and handed her the note. OOC: hrm... my mind doesn't seem to be working today |

He's a mute.
Well, that was fine. She liked people just as well when they couldn't talk; it meant she could count on them never making their opinions clear if she chose to ignore them (it was an easy thing, she imagined, to pretend as though they weren't waving their hands around and looking as though their eyes were going to pop out of their heads... not that she'd actually ever known a mute. So maybe it wouldn't be as difficult to ignore this one. Besides, from what she'd caught of the conversation, he was a prefect. And her natural curiosity made her wonder whether, if he couldn't speak, he was capable of taking House points?) The thought that perhaps he couldn't hear her never entered Evangeline's mind, though it should have; she'd answered his question already and returned it with one of her own, which he apparently hadn't heard. Twice. But she didn't even take the time to think about it. Instead, she turned back to her trunk, gave it a final shove, then sat down in one of the few vacant spaces left. "I said I'm fine," she replied, handing back his note. "Didn't you hear me come in, at least?" And normally, this would have been enough to make her realize that, no, he hadn't heard a thing, but she was currently trying to find somewhere to put her motorcycle helmet, and was speaking without really thinking about what she was saying, though she still said it jokingly and with no cruel intent. "I mean, come on. Are you deaf?" |

"Oh, here, let me move my bags a bit more over..." She got up and shifted the bags so that there was enough room for Evangeline to wedge her helmet in. "There you go."
Patrick looked to Felix. "Gah, I suppose you're right!! I forgot about that part, actually. So, I'll be going, then." He scooped up Faye and put her in his pocket, and left for the Prefect car. OOC:I dunno quite what else to do >__>
Ummm question, what does he need to do in the prefect car? get a list of rules or summat? PS. I will be gone most of the day... until at least 5pm... so don't expect a quick reply >_> |

I assume they get some kind of instructions for the year, and possibly the password for their dorms. Although apparently Ravenclaw doesn't get passwords, so er... no idea XD; I guess we can just have our characters sit out for, say, two posts and then come back. We'll say they got what they needed and snuck out...
Felix looked almost quite unperturbed by the new girl's rather insensitive comment. With an almost paternally patient look upon his face, he began to sign something. Almost simultaneously, his sister translated: "No, he says he can't hear and, err... Oh honestly!" Elayne shifted in her seat, looking rather uncomfortable. "He suggests that perhaps if you're as blind as he is deaf, to not notice." Felix was grinning and winked at the girl to emphasize that he was joking. "Anyway," Elayne said, clearing her throat as Felix extended his hand, "this is Felix, and I'm Elayne. He's a sixth year Ravenclaw, and I'm in fifth. And, oh! who does your hair? Ah, that was me." Elayne nearly blushed. "He didn't ask that, I mean. That is... I'm sure he likes your hair too, but I... oh I've gone and...." After a brief pause, she took a deep breath and tried again, "Let's try that again. Felix" -- she pointed to him -- "his sister, Elayne" -- she pointed to herself -- "and I think your hair looks great" -- she pointed to Evangeline. Felix glanced over his shoulder at his sister with a raised eyebrow, wondering what could possibly be taking so long. He smiled at her, seeing the expression on her face that she always got when she had managed to, yet again, speak without thinking and get her thoughts muddled. |

As he didn't seem offended by her comment, she didn't bother with an apology, instead choosing to reach out and shake his hand firmly, grinning all the while. "Van," she said simply, in way of introduction, not bothering with a last name or even a full first one. "Sixth year-- Eh, Ravenclaw, I think." She paused. When the Headmaster had spoken with her over the summer, she remembered being sorted; she'd had a hard time, however, remembering the name afterward. Some weird bird-sounding thing. Ravenclaw sounded right, she guessed. "That's the blue one, right?" she asked, remembering the House banners she'd seen.
She turned her grin toward Elayne, laughing good-naturedly at the flustered look on her face. "Thanks," she said to Morrighan, tossing her helmet onto the shelf. "And thank you," to Elayne. "I know this nun, actually," she lied, "in France. She's a biker, when she's not blessing people and whatnot, and I snuck into the convent last year so she could help me with it." She frowned, fingering the tip of a lock of hair that had fallen in front of her shoulder. "It used to be all this color," she said, "but then it grew out, and I kind of liked the way it looked. You know how it goes." |

"I'm Morrighan Hennesey, duelling club sponsor, etc."
Bob turned around and stared at Evangeline intently, letting out a low growl. Morrighan frowned. "Bob, behave yourself. And for God's sake, don't beat her up because she doesn't like you." |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | James was not very happy. He had walked to the back of the train when his six sense had warned him of mischief...but when he found nothing back there, he did find a small group of Slytherin blocking his path back to his cabin. The leader, a 6th year named Parkers, had a particular hatred for James. However, they had yet to notice him, but there was simply no way to get past without being seen. And if they looked his way, there would be a very nasty incident. James had already tightened his grip on his wand, but preferred to not get detention before the year started. Glancing around, he saw a cabin with many people in it. Perfect, he thought. Keeping his eyes on the Slytherin gang, he made an impressive diving roll into the room. He probably would have been better off watching where he was rolling. While no Slytherin looked his way, he ended up rolling at high speed into Felix Nash's legs, knocking him to the floor. After clearing the stars from his eyes, James sat up.
"Ow." he stated simply, rubbing his skull. He glanced around the room, recognizing about half of the inhabitants. "Oh, hi..." he started rather inadequately. "How've you all been...?" At that moment, James recognized he knocked Felix to the ground. "Ah! Felix! There you are! What's up?" OOC:w00t |

Elayne was just gaping in awe at the story about the nun, and was getting ready to ask what exactly a nun was when something came tumbling into the room, straight into her brother. She scrambled to help him back up and to check both of the boys for obvious injuries. Satisfied that they had none, she sat back down; she had already completely forgotten what she was about to ask Van. "Well I'm obviously *down* here, so that's out," Felix signed resignedly, a rather wry grin crossing his face briefly. He tossed a thumbs up to his sister as a "thanks" without even looking instead signing again to James. "And you? Normally people don't just bowl into other people. I could take five points for that, you know!" "Oh, honestly Felix!" Elayne interjected, slapping his arm playfully. She always claimed to disapprove of Felix joking about such serious matters as detentions and point deductions, but couldn't help smiling whenever she saw him do it. Felix didn't see what she said, but didn't need to. He simply offered her a grin and a wink and made to leave. "I'll be back shortly," he signed, hanging in the doorway. "Don't have too much fun without me!" With that, he blew the compartment a kiss with an almost completely straight face, and headed off to catch up with Patrick "Er, so how are you?" Elayne asked James. "Not up to anything irresponsible, I hope...." |

"Graceful," she said simply, not even bothering with an introduction or the like. She grinned at Elayne. "Your brother's got a knack for getting knocked down, doesn't he?" Her grin widened. "Must be his magnetic personality." She paused. "Or the fact that he couldn't hear a banshee with a megaphone." |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | James turned to Evangeline, as if suddenly noticing her. He glanced around the compartment again, his gaze returning to Evangeline before turning to Felix's sister. Using fairly messy sign language, he sent a question to Elayne.
"Who's the frog, the adult, and the bucket of fuzz?" he asked, knowing Elayne was the only one who understood him. "She seems relatively casual about Felix's hearing even though she's new." Most people weren't so easy about his "disability," even though James knew Felix hated people thinking of it as that. |

"Well actually it's usually me that's falling everywhere," she said in a surprisingly matter-of-fact tone. "I'm not quite so graceful as he. Maybe he wanted to 'take the fall for me'?" Elayne giggled at her extremely weak pun, but stopped herself quickly as she realized how bad it was. She cleared her throat, glad that James was distracting her from how much she regretted saying that.
"New student, new teacher... and pet?" Elayne wore a rather confused expression on her face as she signed. "I'm sure Felix would prefer her to be casual, but why are we signing?" She added the last aloud, setting her hands delicately on her lap -- it was clear from her signing that her hands must be more graceful than her feet, at least from the way she spoke about herself. OOC: Amelia, I'll have Felix come back in the next post I make. You can leave first if you want, or wait for me... it's up to you |
