Name: Jay Truman Lauritz
Stage Name: Truth (and Lies)
Age: 27
Occupation: Musician / Assassin
Alliance: Ambiguous
Items: Various instruments / High-powered sniper rifle

Physical Description: Jay is just barely average height, and has a lean, athletic build which suggests that he is working hard to recover from being malnourished some time before. He has a full head of black hair that always seems to look wind-swept. Jay has a youthful handsomeness that draws more than just shady mercenaries to his establishment – something for which he is very grateful. He has a very graceful manner about him, and a smile that has helped him diffuse many potentially dangerous situations.

Jay has a very good sense of style, which lends credibility to his establishment. Even if some of the help is somewhat greasy-looking, he can brighten the place just by sitting up on the stage and playing.

Personality: Jay is friendly and outgoing, always with a warm smile and open arms. He knows everyone that frequents his place and their immediate family on a first name basis, and has few enemies. Jay’s friendliness is extended especially to the ladies, but he always knows his limits. He is almost famous for being very risky and risqué with his customers, but has never caused a scene and no complaints have been filed. When asked about how he does so well, he says only that he must have good instincts when it comes to women.

Nobody has ever seen Jay upset or excited. He always maintains a calm, cool demeanor in any situation. Some suspect that whatever part of his brain regulates emotions was fried by some overdose of drugs in the past, and he became permanently stuck on “relaxed” – so far, however, there is no proof of that.

History: Jay is the seventh of twelve children born to the wealthy Mr. and Mrs. Lauritz. He grew up on Alderaan with his siblings, learning everything that affluent children should know – mathematics, sciences, music, marksmanship, and so on. The only thing young Jay was actually interested in, however, was music. And, since there were six siblings before him in succession of the family business, his parents didn’t particularly care.

It was at a young age that he developed his very relaxed disposition. His older and younger siblings for the most part whined and cried, respectively, for attention. As Mr. and Mrs. Lauritz were very busy most of the time, this was understandable. However, it put a lot of stress upon the house keepers, which Jay could see. He very much didn’t want to cause any trouble, and so learned to solve his own problems while presenting an calm attitude to those around him.

At sixteen, bored with aristocratic life, he left home for Coruscant, under the guise of “seeking education and fortune.” With this excuse, he got his parents to send him money every month for food and books and the like. His true intentions, however, were completely different. On arriving, he scouted around near the surface and found a small Jazz bar called Lye’s that was going under. Seeing this as a perfect opportunity, he poured all of his resources into helping fix it up. In return, the owner made him the general manager, and let him play. As part of the re-opening, they renamed the bar to “Truth and Lies,” a play of both of their names: Truman and Lye.

In as much as such places can, Truth and Lies flourished. While, like all bars, it attracted many mercenary-types, Jay cleverly sectioned them off in the back half, with the excuse that they could work in more privacy. Though it wasn’t “classy” by any means, in addition to the mercenaries the place attracted many middle-class people – especially ladies, as Jay’s reputation spread.

One day, however, Mr. and Mrs. Lauritz decided to visit their son, and see how he was getting on. Or, rather, they sent his older brother to check up on him. The brother didn’t stay long before fleeing home to mommy and daddy with a less-than-enthusiastic report. It wasn’t long after that Jay’s monthly funds stopped.

Though he could certainly have lived off the manager’s salary and the extra he paid himself as lead performer, it was nothing like the life he was used to. After the Jazz bar got off the ground, he had put his money into a nice apartment nearby, on a higher level. Without the extra cash, however, he would have to sell this. So, he decided to seek the advice of his customers.

As it turned out, the only ones with solid advice were the mercenaries. Specifically, assassination seemed to pay well, and didn’t require much work, if done correctly. So, using his extra cash and calling upon his experience when younger, he fabricated a very powerful, long-range rifle and honed his skills. Then, with the help of his many connections, he began to take jobs under the assumed name of “The Liar,” and slowly gained a reputation as an expert shot, who never missed, and never chickened out.

At present, he does much less assassination, but when he does, he only takes very high-class jobs that pay extremely well.

Notes: Jay has some affinities with the force that he doesn’t realize, but because it manifested rather late in his life, it was not recognized by the academy in time for them to bother training him. However, it helps with his work in charming customers and knowing his limits, as well as calming his nerves and holding his rifle steady.

Because of his many connections, Jedi and police have shown up to ask him for advice or assistance on more than one occasion. However, though they might suspect him to be guilty of the assassinations, they can never prove anything due to a distinct lack of evidence – he always takes his shots from a great distance away. Furthermore, he is too valuable of a source to try to imprison anyway.

While most regulars at Jay’s bar recognize him as a well connected source of information, few if any know about his alternate profession. He keeps this part of his “business” very well separated, tending to meet with potential customers in such a way that both parties can remain anonymous.
