Artemis watched the students half-interestedly as he munched thoughtfully on a slice of toast. He glanced down from his vigil every few moments to look at a small, aged piece of parchment which sat near him, but far enough away to avoid the plague of crums that was inevitable when eating toast. Once in a while, he would take up a quill pen and write down a few things, but most of the time he seemed to be doing little more than observation. To his left, Professor Dumbledore looked over once or twice, curious to see what the young teacher could be writing on his first day of teaching, and during breakfast no less. However, he hardly even raised his eyebrows; apparently he found nothing of interest. To his right, Professor Flitwick seemed completely uninterested, perhaps feeling awkward sitting next to a former student. It was one thing to be teaching the child of a former student, Flitwick mused, but when one comes and works next to you, things start to get wierd. You start to feel old, older than you already felt.

After a few minutes passed, the young teacher stood up and bowed slightly to the nearby professors, sneaking a few danishes into the recesses of his oversized robes. His long strides carried him swiftly towards the door, though with no apparent look of urgency or haste. He continued walking towards the staircase, and then "accidentally" let a rather thick book fall from his arms. The thing was apparently quite old, as the leather binding was very worn almost in its entirety, and though there was evidence of some writing on the back and spine, it was not legible. However, the cover bore the words "Tome of Forbidden Secrets" in a rather eerie red color. Though the text was slightly faded, its striking color was still easily recognized.

Dizzy almost leapt out of his chair is shock.

"GAH!" he yelled, shooting awake. He sat back in his chair, very awake.

"That was not cool..." he said, rubbing his ear. He rummaged in his pocket for a second, and pulled out a piece of paper, slightly crumpled.

"Here..." he said, handing it to her. "I haven't really looked at it yet, so I can't tell you what my classes are off the top of my head...Any matches?"

Etta giggled as she took his schedule from him. "You should have seen your face!"

"Umm," Etta's eyes scanned each schedule. "Yup! We both have Defense of the Dark Arts first period today, and... blech! Double Advanced Potions this afternoon." She stood, and picked up her bag. "Everyone's starting to leave, so we better get going."

She frowned, bent over and picked up a book. "Hmm... 'Tome of Forbidden Secrets.' Oo! Sounds ominous," she chuckled. "Let's see who you belong to..." She lifted the cover hoping to see a name, but the book started shreiking at her instead. Etta shouted in surprise, and slammed it shut, but the high-pitched screaming continued, and her peers looked at her curiously.

"DIZZY!!!" she shouted over the shrieking book, and she shoved the book into his arms. "MAKE IT STOP!!!!!"

Certainly surprised by a screaming book, Dizzy still took a few moments to get his wand out and cast the silencing charm that shut the thing up. He had seen this book before...And the scream...It was familiar, but Dizzy couldn't think of why...

"Come on," he said, stuffing the book in his backpack, "We don't want to be late for Artemis...I mean, Professor(dear god...) Burton's first class, now, do we?"

Elise had been walking for a few minutes before she reached the staircase and stopped. For a minute she stood there, motionless, and then suddenly turned around to see Victor. Balling up her hands into fists, she gritted her teeth, stepping forward confidently. "What do you want now?" she asked, putting her fists on her hips. "Shouldn't you be back in the Great Hall eating breakfast? I know I would much rather be doing such if I were in your shoes."

Among those who turned to find the screaming, wherever the hell it was coming from, was Anthony, contently chewing on a piece of toast. So when the sound of screams erupted from the small book, Anthony, half a piece of toast dangling from his mouth, was the first to whip his head around thinking: "what is that God-awful noise"

At the center of it all was Etta and Dizzy.

"of course, why not?" Anthony muttered.

"Mind telling an interested alchemist what two pranksters are doing with a screaming book?" said Anthony as he strode from the crowd.

In the back of his mind, Anthony realized that there were only a few books that did that kind of thing. Some of them were pre-programmed with an unearthly wail. Other times, the screaming came from the book's inhabitant(s. If he could only take it from them...yes, it would not take much doing, he just needed a distraction.

In the meantime, what did they have to say?

Victor didn't seemed surprised to find Elise angry at him. His eye looked to the ground, then back up to stare at her own. He heaved a sigh, and ran his hand through his long hair. "You just seemed a little troubled, so I followed you to see where you were going." Though it wasn't any of his business, he was concerned. After what all had happened last night, there was a curiousity that plagued Victor's mind. Whether it be answered or not, only time would tell.

Clearing his throat, Victor continued, "I would ask what is on your mind, but... I believe I might already know the answer. " He then turned his head back to look amongst the other student's who seemed to be circled around a small area of the Hall. A wrinkle formed between his brows, and he blinked to this, only to turn and face Elise again. With a small nod of his head, he asked of her, "Do you want me to leave...?"

Etta turned around to face Anthony, put her hands on her hips and stuck her tongue out at him. "I didn't do anything," she paused. "Well, ok, not intentionally. I just found a book, and decided to return it to the owner, like an honest citizen. I opened it and, the thing started screeching at me. I'm innocent!" A loud bang exploded from inside Dizzy's bag, and suddenly Etta found herself covered in a green, sticky, gooey substance.

Etta blinked, and looked down at herself. "Ugh..."

Anthony grinned at the new change of color so appropriately delivered to Etta.

"If that green goo is any sign," Anthony remarked. "I would say that you were lying"

Anthony had a suspicion. That book, so close, but if that goo was some kind of defence mechanism (very clever, Dizzy) Anthony did not want to try and steal it just yet. Now, what could possibly be inside it? It was just too tantalizing to put aside in his mind.

"Shut it, Pollux," Etta growled, and her green eyes flashed angrily. She was about to hurl a glob of the icky goo right in his face, but remembered the deal she had made. Crumb, she thought to herself, and worked on getting the goo off her wand. Just one semester, and then comes Janurary.

Etta sighed and wiped her wand on her robes. She couldn't tell if there was more goo or if it was just smeared on thickly. The little prankster was becoming quite frustrated when she heard a snicker behind her, so she turned around to see who it was. Great, Rosemary Frithos, Etta rolled her eyes in disgust.

Frithos was one of the more popular girls in Slytherine, and needless to say, the two girls loathed each other. She was smirking and giggling with her little posse of girls. Etta also happened to know that Frithos had the biggest crush on Anthony that boarded the line of obsession, and that she would die if the school found out. Etta knew that all the girls in her year knew about Rosemary's little crush, but Rosemary didn't know it. She planned on using it for blackmail whenever she got bored with her other plots.

"Wow, Fairwood," the Slytherine sneered. "I didn't think it was possible for you to look any worse! You sure proved me wrong." She paused to wait for the laughtrer of her cronies to die down. "Well, look on the brightside; the green really brings out the color in your eyes." Frithos turned and started to walk away with her friends while laughing.

SPLAT!! A large oozing gob of green goo hit Rosemary square in the back of the head. She screamed and turned around to face the culprit. SPLAT!! Another goo ball hit her right in the face. Rosemary shrieked and cussed loud enough to make the book sound quiet. She glared at the goo-covered Ravenclaw, and her face turned red from embarrssament and anger, but the goo gave it a brownish hue.

"Pity," Etta sighed sadly. "You still look like the same disgusting git I see everyday." She smiled a bit as Frithos stomped away with her little group, and found she felt better. Then she turned around, and looked up at Snape.

Oh crumb, she thought as the Potions teacher wordlessly handed her a detention slip, and walkd away.

"That makes two! (Or three, I can't remember...)" Etta said exasperated. "This is not my day..."

Rosemary, Anthony thought with traces of disgust and paranoia. Something about her was...just not right. That stare, that same damned stare that she gave him every time he passed her by. He saw it, although others would not think so. And how it it freaked him out. She was a nice girl, though once you managed to peel back all of the arrogance, stupidity, and hate (a grueling task no doubt). But feeling the searing of her eyes burning in the back of one's head is enough to send anyone packing.

"Well," Anthony sighed as he tossed a bit of goo from his boot. "Now that that's over, mind letting me see that book-" Anthony mindfully glanced at his watched and grimaced. "-some other time. I have Defence against the Dark Arts coming up and I'd rather not be caught at the right place at the wrong time"

Victor had now stood for too long an allotted time; awaiting an answer from Elise. From the ambience of the many students walking about within the halls and such, the one-eyed man knew it was time for classes to begin. Other than that, he could tell from the silence that Elise gave off was that she rather not be bothered at this moment. Giving a small bow of his head, Victor spoke out in a whisper just loud enough for the gold-haired girl to hear,

"...I see. I'll shall be on my way then." Then with a spin, Victor had turned around and made his way towards the crowded hall, calling back to Elise once more, "Your day will get better. I promise..." Though it was not a promise he couldn't keep, Victor always had a keen sense of knowing when good happenings would come to pass.

After a moment of cutting through various groups of students, Victor made it to the entrance of his class. Glancing up with a small sigh, he read across the old scripture carved above the wooden door.

'Defense Against The Dark Arts'

Reaching out and opening the door, Victor quickly eyed the room for any suprises, for trickery seemed to be a big fad this year. Shocked somewhat, the room was empty...

With a shrug, Victor walked in slowly as he took his time, and sat himself down in a chair. This chair was in the corner of the room; Victor's favorite spot ever since he became a student. Or more rather, since the incident...

'Oh boy, I just can't wait to see what happens...' He thought to himself sarcastically as he leaned back in his chair; waiting for the arrival of the others and the commencement of class.

Anthony was already well on his way to what he assumed was the right direction. In all seriousness, nothing about Hogwarts made sense to him, no matter how many times he traversed those halls.

On his way, Anthony killed a bit of his perpetual boredom by filtering through his inventory. "Let's see: Instant giant moth, magic-slapper, soothing mist, exploding powder, exploding powder, exploding powder... hmm... maybe I should cut down on those..."

As his fingers went through each vial, his eyes tracked his surroundings. To his left, a pack of Gryffindor girls scuttled past. To his right, several Slytherins whispered amongst themselves and shot Anthony several mean glares until they were out of sight. Farther down the hall, Anthony was certain he saw peeves go flying down the hall way with a vase in one arm and a large spoon in the other.

Suddenly, Anthony stopped dead in his tracks. His fingers had just come upon something odd. He grasped the bottle under his touch and pulled it out to examine it. It was the weird bottle that looked like it had once held something unnatural, even though it was empty now. Then he remembered, he had to get this to someone who might be able to identify what it was. The Defense teacher, perhaps? Heck, why not?

Anthony slid the vial into a chest pocket. Maybe the teacher could tell him what had been inside of this thing.

As Victor walked away, Elise sighed heavily, irritated. With a quick roll of her eyes she began to jog to her next class, having no desire to be late on her first day. She smiled weakly; That's right..., she thought. Artemis teaches 'Defense against the dark arts... Inside her mind Elise giggled happily, while on the outside she seemed serious and forboding. The girl nearly tripped when the stairs began to move, and she was forced to take an alternate route to reach the classroom. At last she finally made it to the classroom, barely on time, and found a seat far in the back of the room by herself. Elise dropped her books and various supplies down upon the desk and dropped into the chair, sitting quietly as she waited for class to start.

Victor turned back to see the door come open, and Elise walk in. Giving a small smile and wave, he turned back around and looked to the front. Elise was obviously still in a not-so-happy mood. He could easily tell just by the look on her face. Other than that, the fact that Artemis was teaching this class was going to be weird. Victor didn't really know much about him throughout his life as a student. Not until just recently. Hopefully, Artemis won't be as 'prank-filled' as he was during his years as a student. That's about all Victor heard about him when he was younger.

Taking in a deep breath, Victor opened his mouth and talked back to Elise without looking back to her, "Does it feel like it's going to be a long day?" The one-eyed man had a feeling it was going to be so, but was only trying to make up conversation with her before class began.
