Rain pounded the castle walls with a force that might lead one to believe it was trying to escape from itself. The volume with which it fell was enough to make one afraid enough to start making a large boat and start herding up animals. Though there was no thunder and no lightning to speak of, the rain was bad enough to make up for it, and then some. Still, it was not enough discourage one young man -- not in the slightest. It was the first day of term, and everyone was sure to be gullible and off-guard. With a giddy excitement, he hopped from his bed and dressed, grabbing his wand and various other... supplies, then practically skipped out into the hallway. It was early, so most teachers were likely to still be asleep -- even McGonnagal -- and that was saying nothing about the students. This, of course, was the perfect time. The young man went about his work, setting perhaps a hundred traps at the choicest of locations, then sat back to enjoy.
Sure enough, an old lady came sauntering down the hall -- it was Professor McGonagall. The young man looked on from around a corner, a childish grin of joy and excitement playing upon his face. Within seconds, the lady was slipping all over, getting assaulted with something resembling buckets of paint, and being greeted by a helpful dungbomb. She got up and screamed shrilly, looking around with fire in her eyes at everything and everything. The young man decided it was time to haul his rear-end out of there, and so he did. He did not see McGonagall, and so assumed himself safe. However, he suddenly found himself hanging from the ceiling, unable to move his feet. He cursed himself for falling for one of his own pranks, when suddenly the situation got much worse. The scent of dungbomb slowly met his nostrils. Just turning the corner, the young man saw, was Peeves, and he had an arm full of said odor-inducing items. The young man suddenly felt garishly cold, and looked down to that not only was he only in his boxers, but the hall was filling with students, all armed similarly with dungbombs. They all seemed to simultaniously cock their arms back, taking aim, and... SMACK! Artemis jerked awake, finding himself staring straight at a black leather glove, floating in midair. This was his secondary alarm clock, which he had charmed the night before, just prior to going to bed. He guessed he would sleep past when he was supposed to wake up, and decided that only something with a bit more punch would do the job. He watched it slowly move back for another go, but reached out and grabbed it just in time. He then tossed the glove to the side -- which, by the look of his room, was what he did with most things -- and got out of bed groggily, rubbing his eyes and stretching his back and neck. I've gotta learn to wake up on my own, the young teacher noted mentallly. It was by all accounts a glorious day. The sun shined brightly through the cloud-less sky, and the weather was just warm enough so that one could consider wearing shorts. The air was filled with the energy of young minds eager to learn -- if for no other reason than to get the year done with. The air was light and fresh, and everywhere was cheery and full of light. The young teacher dressed without any rush, combing his hair and so on with a strange enthusiasm. He never particularly enjoyed his morning routine of getting ready, but today felt different. It was almost exciting -- he dared to think -- that he was beginning his first real job, and at the place where it all began for him to boot. He grabbed a few books and other random things, placing his wand in an inconspicuous spot within the folds of his robes. It was now time to meet his adoring public. Artemis opened his door and stepped outside, walking casually down towards the Great Hall. |

The German grumbled, turning over and pulling the sheets over her head. Zwolf, however, knew of her master's tendancy to never wake up on time, and proceded to nibble on Elise's hand, growling for her to get up. After the bites began to get painful, Elise swatted the cat away and slowly leaned up, pushing the golden strands out of her eyes. Reaching up towards the cieling, Elise streatched her arms and let out a soft yawn, scratching her stomach as she stood up and got dressed.
Lazily she pulled on her dress shirt and buttoned it haphazardly, many of the buttons without holes, or the correct ones for that matter. She then snaked her tie around her neck and looped it around and about, struggling to get the correct knot. When she had gotten it as close to perfect as she could have (which was very messy, mind you), she pulled her grey, wrinkled vest over her blouse and pulled the tie out from underneath so that it would sit over the vest. Elise now pulled her skirt up and secured it at her waist, the bottom of the pleats hitting a few inches above her knees. Quickly she pulled her socks on and slipped into her shoes, grabbing her wand and robes, running her brush through her hair; it still looked perfect, even after a night's rest on it. The German exchange student dashed down the stairs, yawning widely as she dashed out of the portrait hole and straight into someone. "Uwa!" she said, falling backwards and onto her rear. Quickly scrambling to her feet to keep from flashing anyone, she looked up to see Artemis, the teacher from last night. She blushed slightly, speaking out in her German accent. "I'm sorry, sir. I shouldn't have been running." |

Light shone into the lulled pupil of Victor's emerald optic, like a rainstorm smashing into the earth. Rising slowly, he allowed a low sigh to pass through his lips. His mind could not remember anyhing but the problem that came between him and Elise last night. Without taking a moment to stretch or yawn, he snapped to his feet beside his bed and stood straight. Being only in his black dress pants and socks, his built upper body was exposed to the nothingess of which was his room. He shook his head light as he allowed the trussles of his onyx hair to shift over his patched eye. Glancing over at his neatly hung robes, vest, shirt and tie, his gaze fell to see Elf nibbling at the shoestrings of his dress shoes.
After taking the moment to dress, he pressed his hands firmly to reduce the wrinkles of what showed on his clothing and robes, his hair parted down the side of his patched eye neatly to curl slightly at his shoulders once again. His wand already concealed in his robes, he left his room; leaving Elf within to guard the premises. As he traversed into the Great Hall, his eye keenly caught sight of Artemis, only to be nearly 'destroyed' by a flying Elise. He smiled a small smile to himself to her actions, and decided it would be best to greet her this fine morning. "Are you alright Elise...?" He spoke out in a more charming tune than he was singing last night, placing a small pat on her back. His eye glistened brightly from the light that came through the windows, as his smile became warm to her presence. He was happy to see her, but somewhat scared to her feelings, not knowing if she were still upset of last night, and if she would react to him being there in a negative way. |

He found himself leaning forward slightly as he hopped on one foot, in an attempt to regain his balance. After a few hops he found himself standing normally once again and turned around to see Elise scrambling to her feet. He heard her apology but merely waved it off, as a school nurse might shoo a student back to class for claiming that they felt sick (for the fourth day in a row).
"Nonsense, nonsense!" the young teacher said jovially. "You know what they say, slamming into someone is the highest form of flattery! Hmm... well perhaps they don't say that, but at any rate, might I inquire as to where you were headed in such a hurry?" He smiled widely, as a proud father might when looking at an adorable young daughter. "Perhaps to the Great Hall? Ya know if you wanted me to escort you there you could've just asked instead of knocking me over and hoping I'd offer." Here, Artemis winked before continuing after a short pause. "I would certainly not mind escorting you, especially you being a new student and all." After he said this, the young teacher watched as Victor walked up and patted the girl on the back. "Ah, Victor, is it?" asked Artemis interestedly. "I trust there were no detours on your way back to your dorms last night? To the girl's dorm perhaps?" He did seem somewhat more joyful around him and Elise. Victor's eye twitched to the small hence of perversion in the teacher's words, but he knew he was only joking. To this, his facial complexions came to norm again, gaunt and depressed in his natural display as he shook his head from side to side. His emerald eye locked at Artemis' optics with small humor glittering in the back of it's greeny depths. His deep tone filled the air as it had when he asked of Elise to the teachers questioning,
"Victor is right," He spoke, firstly confirming the small inquiry, "And no, I dare not even try peeping in on any girls. You know me..." He said as he continued, waving his hand about in a gesture at himself. His eye drifted off to one side to stare at nothing as he spoke out with a small sigh to belittle his speech, "Always the lonely one..." With another shake of his head, much rapid than before, his attention came to grips again as he looked back to Elise, whom seemed to be very quiet. 'Did she fall that hard?' Victor thought to himself, hoping she didn't get some sort of concussion or injury of her clumsiness. Falling did seem to be her forte. |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Elise, forcing herself to jerk her eyes away from the teacher turned to look at Victor, and became slightly tense. <"Ah... Good morning, Victor... Yes, I'm fine.."> she replied to his inquiry, in German; something the girl did when she was nervous. She giggled slightly and scratched the back of her head, embarassed. "I'm sorry... I didn't even realize..." she mumbled, mentally punching herself in the face. Elise quickly regained her regular, composed facial expression and smiled slightly to the two men.
"I was on my way to the Great Hall, teacher. I'm sorry to have run into you, quite literally.. I'll see you two there!" Elise quickly blurted out, dashing down the hallway and to the banquet hall, her black robes flapping behind her slender figure. |

His eye gave a blink or two, then turned to glance back at Artemis. He gave a slow, and small shrug of his shoulders as he then began to walk off, opposite of the direction that Elise had taken. As he walked beside the teacher, speaking out in a humble tone to him, "Take care Artemis, see you around."
His long strides, though unmatched to Artemis', seemed to take him quite swiftly to the direction he directed himself to. Soon vanishing into a midst of the students around. 'She didn't seem so surprised to see me... She must be feeling better. I wonder if she'll accept my offer...?' The 'cyclops-of-a-human' thought to himself as he traversed the crowded halls of Hogwarts. |

Anthony rose from bed, feeling slightly corpulent as usual and stretched in all his panther-like glory. Then, he leaped out of bed, swung on his clothes, making special care to empty his many pockets of used potions or things that were too dangerous to carry around on this day of all days. while he was emptying his pockets ANthony came upon... something strange. He had an extra vial, something that was not part of his mental stock note. It did not even look like one of his vials. Anthony took the vial in one hand and held it up to the sparse light of the Slytherin dorm. There was something engraved into the vial, which was oddly thick and large, more like a wine bottle. The engravng simply read: Dangerous. Handle with care. Even stranger was the fact that the bottle was unsealed. No, unsealed was not the true explanation, it looked is af something had punctured the seal...from the inside!? Anthony glanced around mostly empty dorm before slipping the bottle into his chest pocket. Whatever this thing was, it did not need to be reported just yet. With that, Anthony made his way down the stairs from the dorm, bumbed into a few students, and was ultimately thrust out of the common room. Another great way to start the day, Anthony thought grimly. |

He no longer was sleepy, though morning was definately not his time of day. He made it down to the Great Hall, poured himself a bowl of cereal, and somehow, in some way, instantly fell face first into the bowl, fast asleep.

The first day of classes! She threw on her uniform and robes, and rushed out of her room. She grabbed her bag and put her hair up in its usual bun. She skipped down the corridors to the Great Hall, and smiled and waved at people as she passed by.
"Good morning, Professor," she said in a sing-song tone as she passed Artemis. "Oops, sorry, Anthony!" she apologized after she bumped into Anthony. She met Victor at the entrance of the Great Hall. "Hey there," she smiled as she skipped past him. Her eyes sacnned the Great Hall, and rested on Dizzy drowning himself in his cereal bowl. "Hi, Dizzy!!" Etta said enthusiastically into his ear as she plopped herself down beside him. She sptted Elise and waved happily at her. "Good morning, Elise!" |

He raised an eyebrow in curiosity, unsure why she departed in such haste, but decided to shrug it off. She was a new student, after all, and he a new teacher. This of course made him think they might have some common ground, but he immediately threw this idea into the back of his mind as he was greeted by another passing student.
"Ah, good morning, Etta!" Artemis said, mimicking the way she spoke to him, if not taking it a step further by mocking it. Though he intended to make some comment about the previous night's events, she was gone before he could even open his mouth. Instead, he found his first bit of fun for the morning in a group of second years who were congregating just far enough away from the Great Hall's entrance so as to be out of the way. As he walked up, he heard the tail end of their rather dull conversation, which was apparently about the difference between tennis and badminton. Artemis felt that it was his duty to make the conversation more interesting. "Oh, badminton?" the young teacher said during a lull in the conversation. Each of the five or six young heads turned towards them, and then tilted up so that they could see his face. "Did you know that badminton is actually a proper dueling sport, dating back to ancient Rome? It was a rare occurance, because for it to be interesting in the Gladiator arenas both fighters had to be fairly skilled, but when a match did occur, it drew quite a crowd!" He smiled brightly, not betraying his lie for an instant and thoroughly enjoying the expressions of the young students as they completely bought his story. "Sometimes, when the two were particularly good and neither was losing, they would use a heavier, metal birdy with a spiked edge. That way, if a player got hit accidentally, they would be killed right away!" He paused as the students "ooooh"-ed in understanding and awe. "Now, as for tennis, that actually has origins in Russia. In Russia, however, it was used as sort of a way to solve problems without getting the law involved. In fact, the word "court" for the "tennis court" comes from the way they used tennis for their "court." They too used a heavier ball than we do nowadays, however, and you had to be much stronger to make it bounce because they didn't know how to use the materials we have today." He smiled again and put his hands in his pockets, signifying the end of his explanation. They thanked him for his help as he turned and walked into the Great Hall, which by then was teeming with hungry young students. He noted that one of the second years in the group didn't seem satisfied with Artemis' words, so he stepped up his pace and sort of got lost amongst the throng of students, greeting a few old friends and accomplices before he finally made his way to the staff table. |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Elise, failing to find a seat at the far end of the long table, took the closest seat which she could find. Heaving a sigh, she muttered German curses as she sat down uncomfortably close to the staff table. The food, just as the previous day, suddenly materialized onto her plate; bratwurst, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon, ham, and even more food sat in front of her, sizzling and waiting to be devoured. The German merely gazed at the food lazily, pushing it back and forth with her fork. As she was about to stuff a piece of bratwurst into her mouth, she glanced over at the staff table to see Artemis happily chatting with his fellow colleagues. Elise looked back to her plate, then to her legs, and back to her plate again; she suddenly wasn't hungry anymore.
She sat the fork down on the table and rubbed her temples, confused. For about half an hour she sat there, rubbing her temples or her eyes, thinking to herself. About what, exactly, was something even Elise didn't know herself. After she was finished, Elise stood up and left the table, slowly sauntering down the aisle and back towards her dormitory. |

Having this been his seventh year at the place, and didn't expect any changes, other than the new faculty members; such as Artemis. Like a snake sleekily maneuvering it's way through thickets, the solo-optic male gracefully moved through the other figures of the young'uns; finding his way to the table of Gryfindor.
As he took a seat, he allowed a sigh to pulsate from his diaphram, blinking his eye in almost a reaction to doing so. Letting his sight return with the darkened visage of his pupil, he could clearly see the troubled German girl. It was Elise of course, and she now looked saddened and confused. Taking in the obvious expression on her face, he began to think of what he could do, but none came to avail in a sensible manner. 'I could go talk to her, but it would probably lead into a repeat of last night...' The pale-skinned teenager allowed this thought into his mind, but let his head shake to this option; a strand of his long black hair falling into his only eye. As he came out from his wandering mind's wake, he looked back at where he once saw the blonde sit, only to see her gone. He quickly stood, and swiftly glanced over the many faces and head-tops of the students to swiftly catch sight of the girl's long tresses flowing in the midst of the crowd. His eyelids narrowed, almost like hawk's eye catching sight of it's prey; much like a hawk, Victor quickly slinked through the crowds of students again as he followed what he could see of Elise's figure. Though not wanting to talk to her directly, he kept space between himself and her as he followed stealthily, curious as to what it was that Elise was going to do. |

"Oo...." he groaned. He pushed the cereal bowl to one side. "Morning..." he said, and then he slammed back against the table, snoozing again. It had been said that Dizzy could sleep through a hurricane or a building crashing down around him, and seeing as he somehow was asleep in the middle of a crowded Great Hall, he was proving them correct. Etta finished her breakfast, and looked over her schedule. "Hey, Dizzy," she nudged him with her elbow. "What's your schedule? I want to know if we have any classes together this year." No answer. "Dizzy?" the petite prankster glanced at her friend and smirked evilly. "Dizzy, if you don't wake up, your're going to be late for your first class. It is my duty as a friend to prevent this by whatever means possible." She sucked on her finger for a moment, and then shoved it into her sleepy friends ear. "Rise and shine!" |
