Victor remained silent like he had been, wanting not to bring about another problem. He continued to rub her back and shoulders, comforting her the best he could. He then leaned his head lightly against her own, soon to begin swaying her back and forth in his embrace.

His eye stared a hole into the floor behind Elise. He was lost in thought, but he knew what he was doing. He felt so strange, but he was getting done what he wanted.

'I know she really doesn't mean that...' He thought to himself after hearing her words. There was more to her than she was expressing. She couldn't prove Victor was the same as this guy anyways, but... could Victor prove not to be like him?

Elise turned her head slightly and looked at some of the paintings on the wall. Watching them all sleep was making her tired herself. She yawned and rubbed her eyes, pulling away from Victor's arms. "I guess.. I need to go.." she began, walking towards the Ravenclaw dormitory. "Thanks.. again.." Elise held up the locket, smiling weakly, as if it hurt to even look at it. She dropped it and let it fall to her chest, shining in the dim light of the torches on the walls. Reaching out with her right hand, she offered it to Victor to try and make up.

"... sorry again... I didn't mean to compare you or anything.. It's just... y'know..." she said, trailing off, obviously not ready to finish the sentence.

When Elise had left in a hurry, Etta had felt extremely worried. The German girl ran out at night way too much. Etta hoped this wouldn't be a nightly experience, or she'd chain Elise to her bed at night. She decided to follow her because it was clear she was upset about something. However, it seemed that Victor had followed Etta back to the portrait, and had stopped Elise when she came out. Etta decided to watch and listen to what would happened for a few reasons. One, she was still worried about Elise. Two, if Victor tried to take advantage of her, then Elise could easily help her out. Victor seemed nice enough, but one could never be too careful. Three, she was curious and wanted to see what would happen between the two of them.

There's never a dull moment at Hogwarts, Etta smiled to herself as she pulled the Extending Earlobe out of the hallway and into the portait hole. It looked like Elise would return soon, and she didn't want to be suspected of eaves-dropping. She also pulled back her Extending Eyeball, another one of her own inventions inspired by the Weasley brothers. True, it could only see in black and white, and the picture was slightly fuzzy, but that could all be fixed in time. She slipped them into her pocket, and headed back to her room.

She flopped ont to her be and glanced at her watch again. "12:41?" she groaned.

"No... back toothpaste..." Susan muttered in response. "That's my... muffin..."

Victor's hands slid off her arms as she pulled away. To her words, he could only nod. When Elise held out her hand, he did not know what to do. He brought up his left hand and grasped her fingertips in his palm, his thumb over the mid-knuckles of her hand. He leaned down and placed a small kiss on the brim of her knuckles, then with his other hand, he lightly brushed his fingertips acrossed the top of her hand.

"It's okay." He said, interrupting her somewhat at the end of her sentence. His jade optic was closed, and he shook his head to reassure her that she was fine. As he reopened his eye, he spoke out quietly to her. "I understand that you are going through pain of an old memory, just like me..." He then removed his hand from her own, and brushed the side of her cheek with the top of his hand. Soon after, he brought his hand down back to his side.

He leaned forward and whispered in her ear, his voice was tranquil and calming in tone as it escaped his vocals, "There will be a day where our pain will disappear." Victor backed away, he took two steps, back-pedaling from Elise's figure. He then waved and spoke out in his normal tone, "Good night, Elise..." To this, he nodded slightly to her and turned away once more, walking in the direction that led out of the Ravenclaw Common room, and into the meeting chambers, then to the Gryffindor Tower. There he stood still for a minute as he began to think of Elise once more...

Just around the corner from the rendezvous between Victor and Elise, the new teacher, a certain Artemis Windaker Burton, was leaning up against a wall, arms crossed. While his right leg was straight, at an angle from the wall, his left was bent, the foot braced agasint the wall for support. His head was nodded slightly as he listened to the conversation, deciding not to interrupt. While he hated McGonagall for giving him the privilege of night watch on the first night, he decided that things had worked out well. If occurances like this continued, he might get to know the young Victor quite well, and maybe even get him to develop some friends before the end of the year! This seemed a rather lofty goal, of course, but anything was possible -- Artemis was a young, new teacher, after all.

The prankster-turned-teacher didn't move when he heard Victor's steps moving towards him, waiting for the right moment to make his appearance. He used a subtle bit of magic which he'd taught himself over the years to remain unseen -- it wasn't quite the invisibility which he knew wizards such as Dumbledore could muster, but it was more than enough to sneak about the great Castle unnoticed, even by some of the teachers. Though he didn't move his head, his eyes glanced upwards as he heard Victor round the corner. He allowed this student to pass him a couple paces before he took a few steps away from his wall. His strides were long and swift, usually carrying him the same distance that two or more strides of another person to his one stride. With the help of his bit of magic, however, they were also quite silent. Though possible, it was rather unlikely that he would have been noticed until he spoke, when he was just behind Victor, on the left side.

"My my," Artemis said cheerfully, although slightly quieted so that he wouldn't be heard by the girl just around the corner. "You must really want to get in trouble!" He chuckled lightly before continuing. "Now honestly, what's a nice guy like you doing out in the halls at a time like this, having a midnight meeting with a pretty new student, no less!" He offered Victor a grin, though he wasn't sure if it could be seen. "I admire your taste, but your timing and tact could use a lot of work."

Victor's paced stopped to the words of Artemis, recognizing the vocals caused him to halt in his movements instantaneously. As the teacher come about him and in front of him, Victor's eye glanced directly into his, the moonlight from the window gave it a kindred sparkle. Seeing as to Artemis being more cheerful and relaxed about this, Victor let out a sigh, knowing that it would of not been a big deal if Artemis was so laid back about this event.

After letting out the sigh, Victor cracked a smile to one side of his face, it too seemed unnoticable in the shadows the two resided in. After Artemis spoke, Victor allowed a moment of silence for in case the teacher had anything else to say, not wanting to pull or infringe the teacher's strings. He then spoke out in a low tone, knowing that if the girls had heard, they would probably get the wrong impression that he might be ratting him out.

"Well, Artemis..." He said, bringing in a deep breath and continuing, "I'm quite sure you heard everything, so there is no need to explain that matter." He then let a low chuckle escape his domain as he brought his arms up to cross at his chest, "And I thank you for the compliment, I am one who can't really tell if my watch works or not." Victor was being sarcastic, but what seemed even more stranger to him was in the back of his mind, he knew he wasn't acting normal. He felt that because of his meeting with Elise, he could talk to anyone. The walls he created in his mind seemed to have been punctured, or weakened.

Victor then gave a slight shake of his head, his onyx hair falling over his patched eye. He then shuffled his feet slightly out of boredom, awaiting a response from the teacher.

Elise had stood and watched Victor leave, looking down at her feet as he dissapeared into the darkness. She repeated the password to the painting and began to walk into the Ravenclaw dormitory once more. A cold shiver ran down her spine; she could've sworn she felt another presence nearby, but she ignored it and entered the dorm once more. Quickly she trotted up the stairs and walked to her bed, startled when she heard the other girls in the room mumbling about toothpaste and muffins, or something...

With a sigh she dropped herself down onto the bed and sighed, closing her eyes in an attempt to get some sleep.

Etta's watch blinked 1:05, and beeped twice. Well, better start heading down there, she thought as she rolled out of bed. She slipped into her school robes, since they were black, making it easier to sneak around. She grabbed her shoes, but didn't put them on. She looked around the room, Lanie snored, and Susan muttered in her sleep and Elise... well, she looked like she was sleeping so she didn't worry about her. She slipped out of the room, and out of the Common Room with out making a sound.

Etta started silently walking up the corridor to get to one of the passageways that would take her straight to the Trophy Room. Even with her socks on, the cold stone floors managed to bit at the soles of her feet causing her to shiver. She heard a couple of voices, so she cautiously peeked around the corner only to quickly snap it back.

Blast it! she thought as she stepped backwards a few times. Artemis and Victor were talking together. Artemis caught Victor out of bed and now they blocked the quickest way to the trophy room! She turned around to go to another passageway, and immediately wished that Artemis had caught her. Peeves floated lazily a couple of feet in front of her, and grinned at her wickedly.

"Oo, and what is the wee little prankster doing out of her comfy widdle bed?" he hissed. "Student beasties shouldn't out in the halls at night."

"Peeves," Etta whispered sweetly. "If you're real quiet, and don't tell anyone, then I won't set off a bunch of fireworks in the halls and blame it on you."

Peeves tapped his chin, and looked like he was seriously considering the girl's offer. He floated down to her so that they were eye level, and their faces were only inches apart. Suddenly, he took in a deep breath, Etta's heart skipped a beat and her eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.

"STUDENT OUT OF BED!!! UP TO NO GOOD!! WEE WIDDLE TROUBLE-MAKER ON THE PROWL!!!" he bellowed at the top of his lungs.

Etta covered her ears. He was going to attract not only Artemis, but Filch, his stupid cat, and every other person in the castle and their uncle. She shoved her hand into her robes and grabbed the first thing that felt big enough. She pulled the object out and stuffed it in the poltergeist’s mouth. Peeves ranting immediately stopped, and he became momentarily stunned. The item turned out to be a dung bomb, which was weird since she didn’t remember putting one in her robes. She pulled out her wand from her hair, and poked the dung bomb so it would go off in five seconds. Then she swiftly fled down the hall with her shoes in one hand and her wand in the other. When she reached a bust of and old witch, she stuck her wand up the left nostril. The witch sneezed primly, and slid to one side revealing a small opening in the wall. The Ravenclaw student darted into the dark hole in the wall before the witch slid back into place.

The passageway was like a giant slide, and happened to be one of Etta’s favorites to use to go down. However, going up could take forever, and became discouraging whenever she slipped. She would have to go to a different passageway after she got out of this one to get to the Trophy Room, but she would get there eventually. The air rushed past her ears as she slid down on her belly.

“Lumos,” she whispered silently when she reached the bottom. She peeked out into the hallway to see if the coast was clear. No one was there. Etta smiled to herself; Peeves would probably keep everyone busy for a while. She snuck up the hall a little ways, slipped into another passageway behind a tapestry, and walked down the twisting, dark hall with her wand lighting her way for a few minutes. Finally, she reached the end, turned off her wand, and slipped her shoes on her numb feet. The watch on her wrist told her it was 1:13. Her hand wrapped around the handle and pulled the door open. A tapestry fell across the opening of the passageway and hid it from the eyes of others. Etta kneeled down, and peered under the tapestry to see if anyone was in the Trophy room.

Artemis raised an eyebrow in curiosity at the student's response. It was, to say the least, rather unexpected. He hadn't pegged Victor for one who would talk in this manner -- especially the bit about his watch. He shrugged it off mentally, returning to the task at hand. He heard Peeves behind him, and glanced back momentarily to see who the poltergeist was shouting at. He could not clearly see who it was, but he guessed from what he could see that it was a girl. This time he actually shrugged, then turned back to face Victor. He would deal with this other student later.

"Of course you must know," Artemis began, sounding slightly more serious (but only slightly), "I didn't stop you just to compliment you. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble on my first day of classes -- much less before then -- but I can't simply ignore this. I mean c'mon, man! This is your seventh year, you should know better than to prowl the halls this late at night!" Artemis shook his head in disapproval before looking up again to continue. "I don't want to be the bad-guy, so I won't give you detention, this time. I'm sure you know that the other teachers wont be as nice, of course. I'll take ten points from Gryffindor and give you this," At these words, Artemis pulled out his wand and pointed it towards his outstretched hand. He swirled it around as though stirring a drink, and a small piece of parchment appeared with the text "One hall pass for Victor, back to his dorms." The young teacher handed this to the student before him then turned around to follow the other student.

"If I catch you out again tonight," Artemis said over his shoulder as he walked briskly passed Peeves, "it'll be twenty points and a detention, so get back to your rooms immediately!" He walked with his usual, quick pace down the hall he'd seen the other student disappear down earlier. He examined the surroundings, looking for hiding places and -- secret passages! He found a statue of a small witch, but before he could do anything, Mr. Filch showed up behind him.

"Ah, you're so lucky you ain't a student anymore, Burton," the crusty old man said. Artemis restrained himself from offering a rude gesture and a colorful metaphor in response, instead waiting for the Janitor to pass.

"You might want to hurry, looks like Peeves is swallowing dung bombs again," Artemis told him as he passed. Flich looked back at the teacher with a bit of disgust, but didn't say anything.

Victor nodded once again slightly to the teachers explanation. He did have a good way of explaining things, and they would probably work on normal students, but Victor wasn't normal. Though he could see the point in some of what he said. He was lucky only to have 10 points removed from Gryffindor's overall score. He would rather much have the detention though, and not allow the whole clan face the consequences of his actions, but he did not say anything. He did not want to make Artemis feel as if he was going to be pushed around by a student.

Victor said in a smooth tone, being grateful as he was to Artemis's actions, nodding as well, "Thank you." He then turned about and began to walk once again. He came to his door, and repeated his phrase to the old man reading in his portrait. As the door swung open, he shut it behind him swiftly. He ditched the hall pass paper into the trash bin beside his desk, then turned to look at his bed. Elf was asleep still, sprawled out and relaxed. Victor cracked a smile to one side of his face in reaction to the looks of his partner. He then quietly walked over beside the bed, and picked up the knocked-over case that Elise had tripped on earlier.

'Poor Elise... I wonder what happened between them two?' He thought to himself, remembering the pictures of her locket. He then shook his head, and spoke ot to himself, "Remember Victor, it's none of your concern..."

Anthony stood before some of the greatest trophies and medals ever awarded to Hogwarts' many students. The one that cuaght his eye was a dingy little cup; an award for a powerful alchemist who once attended. Anthony knew one way he could steal such an award in more ways than one. All he had to do was give up the family recipe and he would have it. But...his family, their proud history, and their most powerful asset would be gone. The Pollux family would no longer be able to steal safely. It was like standing on the edge of a plank that rested between two great hollows. They both held something worth taking the drop for, but what happened once he hit the bottom?

"You're late," Anthony said placidly, not taking his eyes off the cup; he could see Etta in the reflections from glass cases. "And you woke the spectral pest. I would have thought you could sneak around just as well as I can"

"I can sneak around just fine. An unexpected delay popped up at the last moment," Etta rolled her eyes. "It's not my fault the stupid poltergeist has it in for me." We'll see how sneaky you'll be when I turn you glow-in-the-dark orange, she thought to herself as her green eyes flashed mischievously. Then she remebered that the price for the recipe was immunity for half the year, and sighed sadly. Well, at least there are plenty of other Slytherines to prank.

Etta closed the passage way door behind her, and walked over to Anthony. She looked up to see what he was staring at. A cup? she wrinkled her nose slightly in confusion. What's so special about a tarnished, dinged up cup? She twirled her silky, black tresses into a bun and held it up with her wand, while she glanced at him. Is he going to steal it?

"Do you have the recipe?" she asked, deciding to skip right to the business. After her experience in the owlery earlier, she had no desire to stay out in the halls.

"What's the rush?" Anthony peered over his shoulder. "And of course I have the recipe. It's all in here." Anthony tapped the side of his head. "In the mean time, relax, take a seat"

Anthony pulled a vial from a remote location on his body and tossed it onto the floor where it broke into tiny pieces. Rising in a purple column of warped shapes, a flat stool erupted from the quickly evaporating puddle. Anthony tossed one for himself, and two in unison for a small table.

Anthony sat in his "chair", which squirmed haphazardly under his weight and placed both hands on the table.

"Here's the recipe"- Anthony pulled a thin parchment from his robe, a special pact marked on its back-"where does the bidding start. You like to haggle, right?"

After Mr. Filch had finally left, Artemis stuck his wand up the witch's nose and hopped down, at once focusing on keeping himself silent and unseen. He landed near the entrance to the trophy room -- a common place for midnight visits, as it had an ironic tendancy to be ignored on midnight patrols, Artemis realized. Though tempted to burst in and bust them immediately, he decided to follow the precident he'd set only minutes earlier of waiting to see what was going on before acting. He quitely imperterbed the other exits, casting a quick but careful illusion to make them look as though they'd never been there, but in such a way that the appearance of the illusion would not likely be noticed. This would lead them to only one exit when they decided to leave.

Happy with his handiwork, Artemis walked silently back to the only remaining exit and leaned up against the wall, very similar to how he had previously. He listened carefully, the first thing he heard being something about haggling; it was a male voice. He wondered if he had mistaken the figure in the hallway and that "she" was actually a "he," but then decided it was more likely that "she" was merely meeting up with this boy for some sort of auction. He silently wondered if there were more students in there, but dared not look in, as he didn't want to be discovered yet.

"As much as I would love to sit with you all night and haggle your brains out, I'm afraid we don't have that kind of time aymore," Etta told the Slytherine student as she gingerly took her seat. Interesting, she thought. The stool seemed to have no trouble supporting her small frame. "Filch is busy with Peeves, Peeves has indigestion, Artemis is occupied with some other student, but Mrs Norris is still out there. I don't know how long the others will be occupied, so I would be happy if we made this quick." She let her hair down and she hastily put it back up. She seemed to have a sixth sense of when it was time to leave an area, and at the moment, the alarms in her head were screaming. However, there was no way she would leave that room without that potion recipe.

"Now," Etta rested her elbows on the tables and placed her fingertips together. Her green eyes bored into his. "I thought we settled this already on the train. You give me that charming little piece of paper with the ingriediants, and I grant you half a year of immunity. I see no problem with this arrangement. In fact, you have to admit I'm being extremely generous."
