To the young girl's questioning, he answered back monotonously.
"No... It's never too late to enjoy a nice walk." He said. Victor leaned forward, bringing his tall form from the wall he leaned against, and began to head in the direction of his room once more. He then turned around as something came to his mind. "You're Etta, right?" He asked, hoping he was right in his questioning, he continued, he pointed up with his hand towards the Ravenclaw Common Room and spoke out again, "Elise went that way..." His tone seemed weak, but before he would let Etta notice it, he turned and headed off to the direction of the Gryffindor tower. His robes almost made his figure a complete shadow in the darkness of the hallway. |

She trudged up the steps, whimpering to herself slightly. When she got to her bed she threw herself upon it, putting her face into the plush pillow below her. Though she had been doing her best to hold back tears, she could do so no longer, and wept silently. |

Etta called after Vicotor as he seemed to absorbed into the shadows. "Right then... on to the common room." She glanced at her watch and sighed, "12:15..."
Why had Victor been there? Was he with Elise and then she left? Etta thought to herself while she walked through the dark corridor. If he was with her... what were they doing? He seemed a little upset, but he left so quickly so I really couldn't tell... As the prankster made her way back to the Common room she passed the snoozing portraits and felt compelled to poke a few of them. However, she managed to restrain herself until she reached the portrait of the writing wizard. He had fallen asleep on his desk, and there appeared to be a puddle of drool on the parchment. Etta showed no mercy, and stood on her tip-toes to poke the slumbering author in the head. "Blubbersnoot," she said confidently, and the portrait swung open. Then she crawled through while she ignored the paintings colorful phrases. The common room was empty, so Etta went to her room. She opened the door, and slipped in before she closed it softly behind her. Susan and Lanie were both asleep already. Lanie snored softly, and Susan muttered something about toothpaste, muffins, and Artemis. She turned her attention to the other side of the room. Etta's bed was empty, of course, but Elise was lying face down on her own bed. The new student was trembing, and Etta heard her sob softly into her pillow. Etta frowned, took off her robe, tie and vest and dumped them onto her own bed before she sat on the edge of Elise's bed. She said nothing for a moment, and suddenly she felt something furry brush against her leg. When Etta looked down, she saw Elise's Russian Blue. The little, raven-haired girl bent over and scooped the cat into her arms. She rested a hand on Elise's shoulder, and placed the cat near her pillow. Zwolf seemed to know somehthing was terribly wrong, and immediately began to cuddle with his mistress. "You look like you could use a friend right about now," Etta said softly. "Do you want to talk about what's bothering you?" |

He studied Etta's figure as she ventured towards the common room. He sneakily followed, keeping to the shadows the walls emitted. He swiftly and quietly followed behind her, keeping a distance between the himself and her.
As he managed to come undetected to where Etta muttered something at her portrait door. It swung open and her image vanished behind the door. Soon to close behind her. Victor's eye narrowed as he studied the other sleeping paintings. He quietly walked over to the door Etta had entered, and sat beside where the door opened. Be brought up a knee and allowed his arm to rest upon it. He knew that Etta would take her to where Elise resided, so it was his only chance. Victor also noticed something strange, there wasn't much people out watching the halls. He gathered the cold shiver again as it shot down his spine. Something wasn't right. Victor shook his head, thinking he was just imagining things and set his mind back onto Elise. She was more important at the moment. |

Her teary eyes met Etta's, and she immediately turned away, rubbing her eyes on her robes. While it was still obvious that Elise had been crying, what with her red eyes, nose, and stuffy nose, she didn't look any worse for the wear; her hair was still perfect. She frowned, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I'm ... FINE..." she replied, pouting slightly. "I got some of Zwolf's fur in my eyes.. that's all.. it stings, y'know.." Zwolf, who seemed to almost completely understand Elise's words, hissed slightly and butted her head into her master's side. The girl rubbed the cat's head affectionately before turning back to her classmate. "No, really.. I'm fine. Thanks for worrying though. But you should really get back to that meeting or whatever it was... I left something out in the hall..." she said, standing up. "Oh, and don't worry.. It'll only take me a minute!" Elise waved to Etta as she trotted down the stairs and into the common room, reaching the portrait at last. "Ah.. guess I just needed a bit of a cry to feel sorta better..." she said to herself as she opened the portrait. It swung inwards and she dodged, looking foward as she stepped out of the door. However, something was in front of the door, and the girl tripped over it, falling face-first into the ground. She luckily put her hands out to break her fall, but was still slightly bruised. "What the ..." she began, irritated. Elise spun around to see what she'd fallen over, her many strands of hair falling about her face. "... Vic... Victor..." she mumbled, scooting away slightly. |

He tried, but could stop it in time. When the girl turned up and looked at him, he realized then it was Elise. He put a hand over his mouth, slightly troubled and now nervous, feeling guilty for what just happened. He stood quickly, and picked up Elise up, wrapping his arm around her waist, and grasping her arm firmly with his hand.
He then asked of her in a weakened tone, "You okay...?", he patted and rubbed some dust off the back of her robes from her fall. After doing so, he put his hand into the pocket of where the locket was kept, his eye narrowed slightly as he was both roubled and embarassed of Elise's fall, feeling it was his fault for the cause of it. "I'm sorry about that." He said, looking to the floor, his onyx hair falling over his face as he felt shame drench his mind. |

She dusted off the front of her robes and sighed putting her hands on her hips. "Don't worry about it... I'm fine.." It was still easy to tell that Elise had been crying; her face was still fairly red. She heaved a sigh and looked down at the floor before looking back up at him again.
"Look... I'm sorry about earlier.. I've just... ugh.. nevermind... I've gotta go get something I dropped back there.." she said, turning to walk away (at a fast pace) from where Victor was. |

Victor said, his volume raised slightly, but not enough to disturb the sleeping portraits. He removed his hand from his pocket, clenched between his fingertips was a chain, and dangling from the cord was a locket.
"Is this what you're looking for...?" He whispered silently, knowing that showing her this might make her upset once again. He didn't want to risk the chance of making a bad impression at this moment. He remained motionless as he held it out to her. |

Her fingers overlapped his as he dropped the locket into her hands. She held it in her palms after opening it, her azure eyes filled with sorrow. Elise stared at the photo for a few minutes before she closed it by pushing her palms together with the locket between them. Holding her hair up, she fastened the chain behind her neck once more and looked up to Victor.
"Thanks.." she said, quietly. Her eyes lowered themselves to the floor once again as she scuffed the toes of her shoes on the hard floor. "Did you... look inside it...?" she asked, seeming indifferent in her reaction to a 'yes' or a 'no'. |

He felt that he was going to be scolded for doing so. He started to feel that maybe he should of not of kissed her. Maybe he should of not let her in that cabin with him on the train. Many thoughts and variations to what all was happening and what possibilities there might be. To this, all he could do was let out a sigh.
After sighing, he gulped, he then started to walk off, barely brushing up alongside Elise's arm as he did so. He felt that he was not needed anymore at the moment, for he already made Elise upset. He thought it would be best for him to go, before he did so again. |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | Elise looked down at the ground as she watched him walk past her. When she no longer felt him brush up against her arm, she spun around, watching him. "It's..." she whispered, obviously not loud enough for Victor to hear. "It's funny.." she said, louder so that he could hear. "...I hate him and all.. But I always still wonder if maybe he did like me..'yknow?" she finished, her voice quivering. "My first one.. and he lies.. how 'bout that? Ahah.." Elise finished the last sentance with a weak laugh, feeling tears at the corners of her eyes. She blinked hard, doing her best to keep them back.
"I dunno why... I can't get rid of his picture, either.. Maybe I'm just desperate.. Since I can't get anyone else.. heh..." she said, chuckling weakly again. Elise was holding the locket in her right hand, stroking it's cover with her thumb lightly. Her goldenrod tresses fell over her eyes and framed her delicate face as she stood there, her frame trembling slightly. |

His already lowered head turned to one side, gazing from the corner of his eye back to Elise. He listened to her words, deep in his thought, he could relate to the pain she felt. It was almost the loss he faced from losing his parents. Though, she had to face a greater pain; Betrayal.
He turned slowly from where he faced over to face her. His emerald eye welled up, he could never imagine what it was like to be betrayed. He took a step towards her, holding out a hand, but stopped himself, allowing it to rest back down at his side. "I cannot feel what you went through..." He said in a whisper. He couldn't, it was near impossible for him to. "...I don't know what to say either. Though, I know for a fact you're not desperate... and you have me...." |

She shook her head, her hair slipping and falling over her shoulders. "N..no... I don't have anyone.." she said softly, steping away from Victor. Eventually she hit a wall, her hand gripping the locket so hard that her knuckles were turning white. "I... I have no one..." she repeated, now using both hands to grip the locket as she looked down at the floor. "Everyone just betrays or leaves me.. they're all the same, I have no one..." she finished, her voice shaking horribly. |

He couldn't think of anything to say, let alone do anything to calm her. He lowered his head once again, shaking it slowly from one side to the other. That's until he thought of one thing her could do, and only one thing. Something that would bring warmth to Elise, but not total happiness.
He slowly took a step towards her, then another. His slow pace took him up to stand in front of her. He looked down at her with his emerald eye. It seemed glazed over, almost as if Victor wan't there himself. He brought out his arms, and wrapped them around Elise's small frame, embracing her in a hug of his grasp. He brought his hand from behind her to the back of her head, pressing on her head lightly to allow her face to burrow into his shoulder. He then brought it back down to give her a light pat and rub on her back. Victor didn't even know what he was doing. He thought to himself, but deeply knew that there was no better way of helping Elise's spirits. |

"Don't lie to me, I don't.. need this.." she grumbled, struggling within his arms. She looked up at him, frowning. "You're all the same. You pretend that you're all caring and then you're NOT."
When Victor pushed her head gently onto his shoulder, she felt slightly more calm. She closed her eyes slightly and took deep breaths, struggling to tame the beast within. After a few minutes she felt better, and she felt Victor pat her on the back. ".. Sorry..." she whispered, lowering her head. |
