Artemis saw the quick movement, the sudden change in the folds of Victor's cloak, the wanding coming out from its hiding place into its owner's skillful hand. As soon as he saw this, the young teacher knew what to do. His extensive practice and training abroad had given him quick reflexes to be prepared for almost any situation, with a no small bit of emphasis on dueling wizards. For him too, things seemed to slow down. This moment would either make or break his reputation at Hogwarts, as well as his own faith in himself. He felt his wand slipping into his hand from a fold in his robes. His arm raised almost instinctually as he saw Victor's face come into view, the young man's lips already speaking the incantation. He would have no time then, he spoke his own:

"Protego!" Artemis shouted, just moments after Victor had cast his own spell. He raised an effective shield, deflecting the paralyzing spell back at its caster. Artemis himself felt himself slide back a foot or so from the force of the spell which was cast at him. Victor was obviously very determined if there was that much force behind it. The young teacher almost hoped that the rebound would be dodged, as Victor would be hit by a lot of force. Though it was a relatively simple spell and easily undone, it would probably not be the most comfortable thing.

Etta bit her lip, and thought a moment. She knew plenty of ways out of the castle, but she looked at the teachers' table and noted that a couple of teachers were keeping an eye on her. They knew her way too well. Dumbledore had that funny smile on his face, and Snape seemed to be daring her to try to leave the Great Hall. He had already given her a detention for cursing the cane, and school hadn't even started!! She sighed and sat back down in her seat. Everyone towered above her once more.

"Grr..." Etta stared at her empty plate. "I hope this doesn't take long. I hate staring at an empty plate." She let her hair down, and put it back up again. Suddenly, she realized something. "You... you don't think that... Artemis is... the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher... do you?"

Dizzy grinned.

"I do." he said, brushing his bangs away from his face again. "He was always good with a wand, quick draw and cut out to be an Auror. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to teach that class. Though I wonder how long it'll be before he pulls a prank on his classes. Twenty galleons says it'll be the first day...though his class is a N.E.W.T. level course for us...he'd better not...I'd kill him."

Hearing the teacher's words, he knew then and there that he must respond the same way quickly. He knew that this spell would die out after being reflected twice, he would have to try hard to come up with something as a counter. 'I need to disar...' A sudden lapse in his thoughts within the split second, 'Of course!'

He let a small grin spread across his face as he shouted in retaliation to the reflect of Artemis's counter, 'Protego!' The invisible shield came up once again, this time around Victor's figure, as the spell came into contact with it, it caused his form to slide back as well, but not as much for it was weakened fro the first reflect. Now having been died out from the second rebound.

Victor raised his wand into the air swiftly, then pointed it firmly and straight at Artemis' sidearm; the hand that held his wand. He then let out a shout of his next spell. "Expelliarmus!" To the last syllable of his words, he whisked his wand around to his side, as if waving something to move in the direction of his wand's tip.

"That is so not fair!" Etta pouted. "He can get away with pranks a lot easier now. Plus, he now wields the power to take away points and dish out detentions. This could ruin my entire year!!"

And there's the fact that I have a major crush on him like evey other girl in the school, she thought to herself. How in the world am I supposed to pay attention in that class now? She played with a lock of hair thoughtfully for a moment, and then broke into a wicked grin.

"Oh, well... if he pranks the class, then the students can prank him. Afterall, he is supposed to be an example to the students." She was beginning to hope that he would prank the class.

Dizzy grinned again.

"Heh, that would box him into a corner, wouldn't it?" he said, scratching his chin thoughtfully. "I'd like to try out my new sticky powder on him sometime..." His grin turned from amusement to devious evil. "Oh, yes, that would be interesting."

"Sticky powder," Etta's grin grew wider. "This I've gotta see." She rested her chin on one hand. "What did you put in it? Do you have any with you now? And what exactly does it do?" The wheels in her head turned rapidly as she thought of ways to torment Artemis with sticky powder. When she remembered. "Weren't you working on that last year too?" she frowned.

Etta couldn't care less that she got detention from Snape. However, once Quidditch practices started she would have to tread carefully around the Potions teacher and Filch. However, the season didn't start for a few weeks, so she should be ok.

Dizzy chuckled as he watched Etta face light up at the mention of his latest and greatest invention.

"I have finally perfected it." he said, pulling a small bag from his belt. He reached in and pulled out a pinch of a dark lavender powder, and threw some on the floor, next the leg of his chair. He poked it with his wand, and it disappeared. He kicked his chair leg. It didn't move. It was stuck.

"Sticky powder." he said triumphantly. "It can't be undone by any wand save my own." To show this, he poked the chair leg's base again and kicked it. It moved 3 inches back.

"I think Artemis will have fun trying to figure this one out..." he said, grinning devilishly.

Elise, shocked that Victor was trying to attack a teacher, dashed in front of Artemis, feeling the impact of Victor's spell hit her in the stomach with great force. She flew backwards and landed at the feet of the 'defense against the dark arts' teacher. Stupid... I should've used my wand.... Elise coughed heavily as she tried to lean up, feeling a few drops of blood escape her mouth. The German transfer student put her left hand to her stomach, using her right to help lift herself to the ground. She raised her cerulean eyes to meet Victor's one and began yelling in German. <"What do you think you're doing?! Attacking a teacher, are you mad?! You'll get yourself expelled, and you'll NEVER get that stupid centaur! Why don't you finish your bloody schooling FIRST?!">

Elise really didn't care whether or not Victor understood her; she was quite angry. Her first day at Hogwarts had already been miserable; she wanted to go back home. She turned to look at the teacher and winced at the pain in her stomach. "Let's just... go back..."

While Artemis was by no means fluent in German, he had picked up a tiny bit in his studies abroad. It was a language which, while not his favorite, was very interesting. He thought it was rather humorous how you could be saying the nicest things about someone or something, but if you say it in just the right tone of voice it can sound like you're hurling insults at them a mile a minute. However much he might have been able to pick out of her screams was somewhat limited, as he did not appreciate having a student under his watch be attacked. To his ears, however, it did seem like she was on his side -- although perhaps he assumed this from her leaping in the way of Victor's spell. Still, while it was almost always impossible to tell otherwise, she did seem to be yelling at him about something, and he did think he heard the word "school." Perhaps she was telling him to go back to the school? Maybe she was saying how nice the weather was at school. Oh! I bet she's asking about the opening feast! Artemis shook his head, mentally slapping himself. Now was not a time to be so silly.

"Yes," Artemis said, responding to what she said in english. "I think going back would be wise." He paused again, letting himself calm down before he spoke again. "Look, if you come like a good little-big young man-student person, I won't tell anybody what happened, and I won't get you expelled." Cautiously, Artemis lowered his wand, though he was prepared to raise it in an instant; he'd even picked out the spell he wanted to use if need be. He allowed another pause, giving Victor plenty of room to think, and then Artemis raised his left hand and stretched it out to the seventh year. "C'mon, you know there's a wondeful feast awaiting you. It's also awaiting Ms. Elise here, and myself! I was really looking forward to that, y'know. I can certainly say that I have not once eaten so well in a long time." Artemis awaited Victor's responce, hoping the student would go with them; he was not lying when he said he was looking forward to the feast!

His eye widened to the sudden movement of Elise in the path of his power. His mouth opened in horror, for he knew that whatever amount of power he threw into his spell was definitly going to cause pain. As she flew back from the spell's force, he instantly dropped his wand from his grasp. When it came into contact with the earth, it gave off a small quake at the earth around him, as if the wand was weighed down by gravity. He froze in his standing, his heart slowed in his chest as he remember what happened to him in the forest. He saw in her eyes the anger and frustration he went through when he was inflicted with the injury he bore.

When Elise began to shout and scream, he lowered his head in shame, glancing over to his wand. He could understand somewhat of the words she spoke. Not being so illiterate in German tongue, for he had only took one private lesson with an instructor, and it didn't turn out so well. For he was more in-tune to finding his cortex of power and strength in magic. Ignoring his German studies, and becoming more adaptive to the magic books he learned. After recieving the branding words left on his mind by both teacher and student, he knelt down slightly, reaching over and lifting his wand from the ground loosely in his hand.

He stared holes into the ground as he slowly paced himself over to Elise and Artemis. He raised his wand slowly, directing it to the student's presence, and made a spiral motion of it. A silent whisper poured out from the darkened contrast of his shadowed face from his long hair, "Episkey..." With this, the physical harm done to her body was healed. He then brought his side-arm down, letting another whisper escape his lips and his leaned forward to the girl, his voice filled with shame, "Traurig..." He was somewhat surprised within that he was able to pull that word out of the nothingness he had learned from his private tutor. But he meant it, and knew that it was necessary.

Without determination of Artemis, or the student, to escort him back to the school, he shifted his feet amongst the leafy ground, and took to his stride in the direction of Hogwarts. He didn't care if he missed the banquet, he had been through it six times, it was all the same rubbish. What mattered was what Elise thought of him now. Of course, she did throw herself into the spell, but if she knew that if Victor had the power to stop that from happening, he would of done so. His body layed over in a heave as he continued to walk, reminiscing of the thoughts and event that took place just now. Maybe it was a good idea to get through school first. He did not know, but he was still contempt in gaining his dignity back. He didn't train all this time to be stopped now, but he would stop if...

He shook his head, removing the thought quickly from his head. He reached into his pocket and removed the music box from it. He turned the key and allowed the soft melody to fill the small area it exerted it's sound to. He was tempted to look back and see if Elise was following, but couldn't dare to, after what he did, why would she want him to...? Slowly, he reached the far side of the Quidditch field from the Academy.

Elise's rage began to fade when she saw him healing her, and completely dissapeared when she heard him apologize in her mother tongue. Slightly taken aback, she turned around to see him walking away; Elise wasn't sure of what to do. Biting her left thumb, she glanced over at Artemis. "I...uh, am sorry, teacher." she mumbled, bowing her head slightly before running after Victor. "Victor, wait!" she shouted, her feet making a light 'thump' on the grass of the Quidditch field as she gradually reached him. When at last she had caught up to him, Elise, grabbed his hand with her left, bending foward and resting her right on her knee as she caught her breath.

"I'm... sorry." she heaved, sucking in air as quickly as she could. At length she spoke again, her breathing having returned to a regular pace. Her azure eyes darted to her left; she saw Artemis headed their way, and he was almost there. "I shouldn't have... y'know... yelled at you like that. I guess..." she mumbled, scratching the back of her head. When Elise finally realized how long she'd held Victor's hand she quickly snatched it away, lowering her head to cover her face.

"Well.. I guess... yeah...." she mumbled about nothing in particular.

Artemis almost smiled as he watched Victor. He hated to say such a thing, but he almost felt "proud." Was this how Flitwick felt when he managed to convince Artemis to not wreak havoc for a whole week? (A week officially and forever labelled as "hell week" on Artemis' calenders, even though it had been only one year.) He shuddered at the thought of now being on the same level as his old head of house -- or worse, Professor McGonagall! At any rate, he was pleased to see the student cooperate, especially because not only did he not want to get anyone in trouble yet, but he did not know how to! Artemis watched as Elise ran towards Victor. It was a long way back to the Great Hall, and he for one was not walking it. Curse those anti-apparation charms... he thought to himself, only slightly serious. He pointed his wand towards his window, and said, almost softly "Accio broom!" Within moments, his broom was flying out to meet him. Before it stopped moving, he grabbed its smooth handle and leapt on, taking flight immediately. When he neared the two students he slowed and stopped, hopping to the ground with the broom in his hand. One look at Victor's expression seemed to read "I'd like to be alone," and so Artemis tried not to bother him.

"Victor, this offer is open to you too, but since you don't seem to be in the mood I'll offer it to young Elise first," Artemis began, prefacing his offer. "Elise," he said with a slight bow, "I'm sorry we met on such... err... less-than-amiable terms, but if you'd like I can give you a ride back to the ceremony; it's a long walk! I know I, for one, am famished. If I didn't feel this strange teacher-urge to make sure you two don't go running off again when I turned my back, I'd totally ditch you both to get some of that food before it's gone!" He then added, slightly under his breath but still just barely audible "(so either accept or haul ass!)"

Before Artemis reached them too, he had stopped as Elise grabbed him. He turned and looked down at her, his eye narrowed slightly as he tried to hold in whatever fluid welled up in his optic's lids. He opened his mouth and spoke out to her, "I deserved it..." his voice trembled. He didn't really know how to handle this. He was always serious, and never really knew how to express emotions like this. His mind boggled out of control as to how to act, resulting in him being quiet and nervous on a mental scale. He couldn't say anymore, that's when Artemis arrived.

He could tell Artemis meant no harm, he was just doing his job, and yes, he felt that he should be left alone for a while. To Artemis' questioning, he looked down again at Elise and spoke out again. "You should go, I'm sure you're hungry..." He voice seemed uplifted, but not greatly. He was glad that Artmeis could relieve her of the stress of walking, and hoped she would accept. He gave another friendly and light pat on Elise's shoulder, then gazed up to Artemis. Giving a small nod of his head again, then turning off again from the two to continue his travel to Hogwarts.

Elise looked at Artemis, and then to Victor, and then back and forth once more. With a slight shake of her head, Elise declined. "Thank you but... I think I'd rather walk... Good exercise, y'know..." she replied, shrugging. She forced a smile and waved to the teacher as she trotted off after Victor. Jokingly, the girl punched him in the arm, intending no pain, and smiled slightly. "C'mon... I'll race you back to the castle.." she said, trying to sound cheerful. She was walking in front of Victor now, backpedaling towards the school. Her black robes billowed about her small frame, enshrouding all but her golden hair in darkness.
