Esmeralda was sitting in the cockpit shivering. "Damn," she commented to Riley, who was sitting beside her. "Why ain't he never around when I needs him to do somethin'? SAVAGE!" she shouted again, certain that her call could be heard throughout the ship. "Turn the damned heater on, will ya? It's cold as shit in here!" She stood up, obviously annoyed. "Dammit, Savage, d'you want us all to freeze?" |

He picked up his a paper cup from the dashboard and looked into it sadly. There was plenty of coffee left, but it wasn't even warm. With a sigh, he dumped it in a nearby trash can.
"I'm not one to complain, but my frigging coffee got cold already!" He spun his chair to face Esme, looked at her, and shook his head. "I can't believe that guy sometimes. Always slacking off, not making sure to watch the temperature. He could at least get his girlfriend to do it!" Riley paused, considering what he'd just said. "I take it back -- he's too much of a prude to get her to 'do it,' eh?" Shivering slightly, he adjusted his scarf and blew into his hands. "It is pretty cold though. Maybe I should've put on a shirt after all...." Today, Riley actually had clean clothes -- it just happened to be one of those days where he didn't bother to put them on. |

Savage crawled out from under the engine and hit the intercom button on the wall. "Jeez, shut up already! I know it's cold, but just put some more clothes on, and you'll be fine." He laughed. "Oh, wait, that would mean actually getting dressed, so there's no way you'd do that." He let go of the button, then crawled back under the engine. The space was so small that he didn't wear a shirt so that he wouldn't get caught on anything. He realized that he was being a hypocrite earlier, but while for him this was a rare occurrence, and only when he didn't want his clothes to get dirty, for the others it happened daily. Savage just hoped that Layla wouldn't come in seeing him like this, dirty and half-dressed and cursing... |

"Maybe you should've. Or maybe you was jus' thinking you'd lemme admire that body while I freezed my ass off."
"SAVAGE!" she screeched again, then decided that it might be a better idea to use the intercom button in front of her. "I am dressed, thank you very much." She paused for a moment, her finger still depressing the button. "That could change, o'course," she said, "if you wants. All you gots to do's turn on the heater, Elliot, doll." |

It felt so good to be apart of a group, and helping and baking. Baking! She could just squeal with all the joy and excitement! What was it about pancakes that made a person feel so warm and fuzzy inside? There was a smudge of flour on her cheek, and some egg on her nose, but the batter tasted so good! And the pancakes tasted better.
"Pancake, pancake," she sang out loud happily, as she flipped some more pancakes on the griddle. Then the greedy circus lady started screeching. Esmerelda sure can be loud... I'll bring her pancakes! she smiled to herself happily. She picked up the plate with one hand and grabbed the coffee pot with the other, and headed to the cockpit. Afterall, it's hard to yell when one's mouth is full. Layla tapped on the door tentatively with her foot since her hands were full. "Special delivery. Pancakes," she said. "And coffee." |

Normally sudden loud noises annoyed him to a great extent (this was still true when Esme first joined the crew) but he noticed that he'd grown to not be bothered by her most of the time. At least, he would have noticed that if he weren't so lazy. The reason was simple, of course: when she yelled it was usually a request for Savage, and usually Riley had something similar on his mind. After she quieted down, he considered the situation thoughtfully. Then, he swung his foot over and depressed the intercom button.
"Hey Savage, if you don't turn up the heat she might want to put on more clothes, so you should definitely switch it on." Riley considered whether or not to explain this explicitly. Then he heard the knock at the door, and the answer was obvious: of course he would add the explanation! He raised his voice slightly, just to make sure Layla could hear. "After all, Esme should wear as little clothing as possible, especially when I'm around. It just gets in the way, you know." It wasn't long before he suddenly realized what Layla actually said after the knock. "Coffee?" He sniffed the air, as though could smell it through the thick door. "You come from God! Please, come in!" A wide smile suddenly covered Riley's face as he turned excitedly to Esmeralda. "Coffee!" |

"Yeah. Clothes gets too distractin'. Turn up the damned heater." At the mention of coffee, Esmeralda wrinkled her nose. She couldn't stand the brown, sludgy stuff, really. The caffiene tended to give her headaches, and even the smell made her shudder. Normally she wouldn't have said anything, just kept quiet and stared at Riley in open disgust until he asked what was wrong, if he ever overcame his laziness enough to do so. And then, if that ever happened-- doubtful, she thought-- she would probably say something about how absolutely disgusting it was to corrupt perfectly good water with something as gross as those nasty little brown beans that grew on those nasty little trees. They didn't even taste good, she thought, not even when they were covered in chocolate... and that was a rarity, as most things tasted good when covered in chocolate. But she had, in the time since Layla had joined the crew, discovered one thing of extreme interest: the girl was a complete innocent. And Esme made it her job to corrupt whatever innocence she could. So instead of sitting quietly, Esme waited until Layla entered and said, "Watch out. If your breath still smells like coffee tonight, you're sleepin' alone. I ain't makin' out with nobody who been chuggin' that stuff." |

"I can't, my hands are full," Layla said, rolling her eyes as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. Her cheeks were a lovely shade of pink. "Not if Esme isn't wearing anything." She didn't mind seeing skin, it was just the thought of her and him together and... AH! Don't think about it!! Don't think about it!! She hit her forehead against the door as she turned a brilliant shade of red. "Ow..." she moaned, squeezing her eyes shut tight to ward off the on coming headache. "Just open the door before I change my mind and give it to Savage before it gets cold." |

But that probably wouldn't work, she decided. Riley and coffee were like those true loves you read about in those quaint, stupid, old-timey fairy tales-- completely inseperable.)
"Thanks, kid," she said, taking the plate of pancakes. If Layla wanted to give Riley the coffee, she could, but Esme would have no part in that. "These look pretty good." She used her free hand to adjust her shirt, as though she'd only just put it back on. "All that sex, y'know-- you can only go so long before you starts gettin' hungry." She sat back down without waiting to see Layla's reaction, and kicked her feet up on the dashboard, leaning back in her chair. Layla's expression would probably be amusing, whatever it was, but she didn't have to actually see it to be entertained. "You want some?" she asked through a mouthful of pancake, holding the plate out to Riley. |

I know you're corrupting poor Layla! I'll be there in a second..." In the background of the intercom, there were powertool noises and metal parts clanking. "Just a..." Suddenly, there was a thump, then a loud clatter of metal on the floor. "Ah, God! Argh!! Suck my balls, engine!!"
"Geez, argh..." After a few second, Savage laughed nervously and said, "Er, uh... sorry you had to hear that. It, uh, really hurt." He let go of the button and hobbled to the cockpit. His foot didn't feel broken, but it would be swollen and painful for days. He leaned on the doorframe, thin sheen of sweat over his bruised, scratched, and grease-smudged body. "I'm not turning the heat up, Esmeralda, we've all gotta tough it out. We need to save money where we can." Savage turned around and sneezed, a great, body-shaking sneeze. "Aw, great, now I'm getting a cold, too..." Aw, man, he thought nervously, Everyone heard that, and it was really damn vulgar... I don't care about the others, but I feel bad when I talk like that around Layla... |

I can't believe she said that! she thought, feeling a bit sick. They haven't... Have they? Of course not! That's-that's- It's not right! It's not decent! Then savage said domething quite vulgar and her innocent mind was reeling. She was nearly comatose by the time he reached the cockpit. It didn't even register that he was half-clothed and filthy as well. The sneeze snapped her out of it though. "You're not ill are you?" she asked with concern shining in her eyes as she pressed the back of her hand to his forehead. "Hmmm... you need pancakes.... I'll go make some more!" She turned and bounced off back to the kitchen, humming merrily. |

"Oh yeah, even experts like us need nourishment," Riley agreed, grabbing the coffee happily. Taking a cue from Esme, he tugged at his pants as though he were just pulling them back on (he had, of course, not bothered to get a shirt yet). "You could make a great case for nourishing each other as you do it, but after a point actual food is definitely necessary." Unlike Esmeralda, Riley loved everything about coffee -- the look, the taste, the smell.... He could go probably without feeling the coffee, as that implied having something scalding hot on bare skin; usually, scalding stuff and bare skin is a bad combination. Other than that though, you would be hard pressed to go wrong when coffee was involved, as far as Riley was concerned. Ironically, Riley hadn't been going for the pancakes; he was contentedly sipping the hot -- yes, hot! -- coffee. Still, the pancakes did look quite tasty. They couldn't compare with the coffee, of course, but since they were offered he decided that he might as well have one. Riley slowly nibbled on the pancake as he sat back into his chair, picking up where he left off in the picture book. He looked up briefly as Layla made a big deal about Savage being sick, and almost shrugged it off when he suddenly had a great idea. "Hey Layla, you should dress up like a nurse and play doctor with 'im," he suggested mischievously. "I bet that'd make him happier than the pancakes." |

Esmeralda squealed, getting up from her chair again. "We could find you a real cute li'l outfit 'n everythin' 'n you twos could finally..."
She frowned to see that the girl had already bounced her way back to the kitched. "Well, lookit that, Savage, you done scared her off. Poor thing. Ain't never gonna get any, actin' the way she do." She turned back to Savage accusingly. "You need to be less 'f a prude," she said flatly. "'S no fun to watch." She thought for a moment, leaning up against the doorframe which Layla had just vacated. "But since she's left and all-- I could play doctor, if ya want." She winked at him, then suddenly became serious again. "But, y'know, I ain't quite as... energetic when it's this cold. So 'f you'd just kinda turn the heat up just a few teensie li'l degrees..." She knew it was a lost cause; they had to save money, that was true. But if they could afford Riley's stupid coffee, surely they could afford a few degrees of heat? This was ridiculous. She felt like her limbs were all about to fall off. It didn't help that her arms were bare except for the elbow-length gloves she wore, but the material was thin and it did practically nothing to keep out the cold. |

Savage exclaimed looking quite exasperated and turning bright red. "You're so... augh!!" He hid his face in his hands and laughed quite nervously.
"No, Esme," He continued, almost a moan, "I don't need your services either..." He broke off to cough loud, racking coughs that sounded quite wet*. OOC:*Meaning that there's quite a lot of mucus in his lungs
Savage isn't exactly the type to rest when he's sick or hurt, if you haven't noticed xD |

Instead of seeing Savage's words as stoicism, he saw them as encouragement and decided to join the fun.
"Say no more, I understand." Riley set down his coffee and stood up, crossing his arms over his chest. "You're saving yourself for me, that's so sweet. Unfortunately, Dr. Riley only treats female patients." He walked towards Savage and rested his arm across the mechanic's shoulder. "Yes, I'm sorry my friend. I know it breaks your heart, but I cannot be so selfish as to deprive the better gender of Riley MacKenzie. "Speaking of which, you were complaining of chills?" Riley stepped away from Savage, looking concernedly at Esme. Pretending to be checking for a fever, he placed the back side of his hand against her cheek. "You might have a rare disease; you'll have to strip so I can examine your body for signs of the illness." He stepped back for a moment, holding his chin and looking as though he were seriously considering a problem. "Actually, I might have to also, to make sure my clothing doesn't become infected. Yes, it could be contagious -- I'd better examine Pancakes, too. Maybe at the same time...." Stealing a glance at Savage, he continued, his tone still very serious. "Might be able to bypass it if this place were warmer.... Yes, Savage, definitely don't bother with the heater." OOC: It's hard to tell what he actually wants Savage to do XD; |
