Because of the way this place is, you can probably move as normal. However, unless you visit the astral planes and understand how they work, it would be difficult to change your speed. Think of it as a very vivid dream, one that was in vivid colors, if you've had those (i'm sure you have.) Those, supposedly, are when you are astral projecting. Are you able to go wherever and however you wish? Probably not. In fact, your character may not actually realize where he is. That's how I understand it anyway. Besides, there'd be no point in including the fact that they're moving fast since they both have extraordinary mental abilities, so... keep that in mind ;) |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | OOC:er...in astral projections, you can go about anywhere you wish, unbound by the laws of our world. You're kinda in a shadow world, one were you move around in the same area, but not able to connect to normally solid objects. only others in astral projection can. he can move decently fast anyway, and if he moves in conjuction with a little of his warping power, it increases his speed greatly.
Cloud moved a hand to his sword. He leapt at the foe behind Aoshi. But he froze in midair. Aoshi was sliced in half. He could move again. As he fell to the ground, he dropped his sword. He was on all fours, sorrow and emptyness in his eyes. All his friends had just died. The blackness around him now changed. He was...in a crystal city. It was truly beautiful. The water shone with faint light and the platform he stood on almost seemed made of crystal. He walked up to the altar at the top of the platform. He tried to figure out where he was when he realized that Aeris was in front of him. He had to get her away. Sephiroth was coming, and he had to warn her. But he couldn't. Everything he did, he seemed as though he was about to kill her himself. His friends stopped him, bringing him back to his real self. But a figure came from the ceiling. Sephiroth stabbed Aeris. She was dead as she slid off his sword to the ground. Cloud caught her as she fell. "Aeris...." he said, trying to bring her back. He stopped. It took him a moment, but he broke the bonds of his mental routine. This had happened already! Aeris had died many years ago! This wasn't real! Cloud suddenly remembered. The demon, the gesture, blackness. It was illusion. The demon of fear had made the mistake of delving into his memories as well as his fears. He knew his friends were alive now, and took strength from it. He fought against this oppressing blackness that now threatened to engulf him. He closed his eyes and concentrated. He was being tricked, and his friends were in danger. His eyes shot wide open...and the light of day shone. He was lying on the ground, his arms at his side, the ground pressing against his cheek. He pushed himself up and dusted off. He felt extremely drained and suddenly sank back to one knee. His sword lay beside him. He shook his head to clear the cobwebs and looked around. Yomi and Kari were out cold still, but Aoshi and the demon were still standing. However, they seemed to be...absent. Aoshi's eyes were unfocused and the demons vacant as well. Cloud launched himself at the demon of fear but was repelled by an unseen force and blasted into a tree. Now barely able to stand, he could do little more than watch and wait for their mind battle to be over. OOC:I'll fix the last post as soon as i figure out how to edit it, if necessary. |

Also, the spirits of the dead are also there, in varying degrees. Demons, evil spirits, etc are in the lower planes, while more benign spirits are in the higher realms. Also, while you can control yourself as you wish, you can't do it on a whim. you have to understand the area and how it works. It's not really necessarily a shadow world; only on the lower planes (IE earth) is it like that. Anyway...
Falcone's body disappeared, reappearing behind and above his demon opponent. The Xarian stood -- or rather floated, seeming to be "standing" upside-down on an invisible floor above the demon's head -- his glowing blade pulsing with energy just under his opponent's chin. While Falcone longed to simply destroy this fowl creature for causing suffering to Akari, he forced himself to remain calm; to lose his calm would be to lose his life, and he would be forced to wander the forbidden planes without a body for the rest of eternity. However, if he did destroy this demon of fear, disaster would engulf the universe. Instead, he would have to find some other solution, and such a solution would not be easy to find. OOC: note: yes, i meant to write Akari instead of Kari; the use of the different names from now on will probably signify his mindset. In other words, right now he's thinking like the old Aoshi, before his planet was destroyed. That means he'll be able to use his emotions to fight since he will feel emotions, and he will also have a cause to fight for, giving him more of a reason to not die, thus helping him fight harder... etc, etc |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | The demon's eyes widened. He had greatly underestimated his opponents mastery of this realm and speed. He dropped his clawed hands to his side, knowing he could not win. He glanced over his shoulder at the upside-down Xarian King.
"Why do you not kill me?" it asked. "I would have thought the pain I am subjecting your friends to would simply be enough to bring out your inner demons. I know your thoughts, Xarian King, I was in your mind. You would do anything to save her; why do you hesistate to slay me? What is it you fear?" He tucked his hands into the pockets of his coat. "Yes, I am a demon. Sealed away by a race of Cetra from, essentially, the Planet's energy. They locked away all demons, behind a wall impervious to our strength. An empty shadow world, a mimicry of this universe. I, a shadow of rogue evil, was locked away as well. But eventually, the most powerful of our number broke the spell as their numbers dwindled. They began releasing more and more of their brethren, and hunted their prison-guards, the ones who had sealed their fate. When the last one falls..." he paused with a lopsided grin, "The wall falls with her. And, if my dream lasts so much longer, then she'll drown in her misery and sorrows, and if the mind dies, the body dies with it. So why do you resist killing me?" OOC:uber crap. sorry again. he isn't really just giving up his life, he's just practical and knows he can't kill you here. He is trying a last ditch effort at baiting you and your fears, but killing him(as he knows) will only temporarily shatter his mindset here. He is a powerful demon, and when he flicked his hand, he left some of his conscienceness in his body. Not enough to animate it, but as a failsafe in the event he died. He may try to pick your mind again, but chances are it will fail. I know this post sucks, but i needed to explain some backstory and this seemed the best way. As a side note, though evil, he only will do evil deeds if he sees a point to them. As such, he wouldn't have complied if he had been asked to kill, say, some random human, 'cause there is no real gain for him. |

His eyes were aglow with the look of a man in love, desperate to protect his beloved. He rotated his position and landed on the ground, once again on the same plane as the demon before him.
"Orae..." He began, speaking in a strange tongue again. "Orae Akari no iyaosaerai! Yuruxiahe! Rehai ne eya! Soroye, koyosaeru!" The Xarian glared at the demon before him, seeing not the demon of fear, but the demon-like commander from that fleet so many years ago. "Teiyoxiehe -- Oyai na fueixia ni mihai." He must learn from his past mistakes, and not act too hastily, lest he lose any leads possible... OOC: hmm, short, but I had to make up xarian as i went along, so that makes up for it...?
Translation: "You... you tried to hurt Akari! I cannot forgive you for this! Release your hold on her now, or I shall kill you! Do not tempt me, my patience is running short." |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | The demon's eyes glowed fiercely, like coals burning in the fires of hell. He laughed maniacally as he responded in the Xarian's own language.
"Nai xio wa?" he yelled in the foreign tongue, "Sukera wo shinte gaieru yai! Fueidasi yai!" He then shook his head and switched back to common. "I will kill her if you touch me. Take us back to the material plane and I will release her. Deal?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest. *** Cloud strugged to his feet, finding he felt as if his body was an iron weight. He planted his sword into the ground for support. He reached into his back pocket for a small gem, green in hue. Pulling it out, he muttered a few words and thrust one palm at the demon of fear. He felt rather than saw the return blast of energy pick him up and slam him into the tree again. He fell to his knees, then had to use his hands to support himself. He would not blackout, not go down, until he knew his friends were safe from that madman demon. OOC:translation of xarian that dan provided: "And why should I? I have everything to gain from her death! Freedom!" |

While he did not lower his glowing blade, he relaxed visibly, putting his free left hand in a pocket at his waist.
"Maa... Xaiou ni maiwe ga, maira taxion e maraosio," he said in Xarian. He smiled disarmingly as he spoke, for some reason choosing to be surprisingly pleasant, considering the mood he was just in. OOC: translation: "Well... you pronunciation is okay, but you still have much to learn"
I'd post more (i have an idea) but i want to see how he'll respond to this first (remember, this is old aoshi so he will have random plans like this, which regular aoshi would not; regular aoshi doesn't have the emotion to pull these types of things off ^^; ) |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | The demon of fear raised one eyebrow questioningly.
"You DO realize there isn't a whole lot of time to make your decision, you know." he said, speaking in the common tongue, "I'd recommend you make your decision faster. All you have to do is let me go free, and I won't kill your little cetra, 'kay?" He shook his head. "Besides, just something I learned from a Xarian I mopped the floor with centuries ago." he shot back at Aoshi, responding to the Xarian's earlier comment. *** Deep in the north forests, there was a hidden, long forgotten city. Much of it had been destroyed after an earthquake had hit just a few days ago, smashing the fragile stone structures the city was made of. There was a deep sloping pit in front of one of these shattered houses, that had clearly been a lake. It had a long, jagged crack at the bottom, where the water had no doubt drained out of. At that very moment, a hand, then an arm, then a body pulled it self from the pit. Frigid and wet, the person sat on the edge and panted from the exertion it had taken to climb out. Viewing the surroundings, the figure coughed out water that had been previously inhaled, clearing the lungs and enabling proper breathing. Having done that, the figure fell unconcious at the lip of the hole, unresponsive but breathing. OOC:FF7 fans might understand and realize this should have happened in the game. For those who do not know, you'll find out eventually. |

Though he didn't want to admit it, this loathesome demon was correct. Time was short, and a decision was at hand. This was the turning point. Would he let history repeat itself? While he knew he could have done little in the past -- or at least he'd convinced himself of this, after many long, sleepless nights -- he also knew that now it was his actions that could save or destroy. The two sides of him raged internally. It was, essentially, a "good versus evil" match within his mind; the old him, the fun-loving Xarian versus this bitter shell of a man which he had become. His old self, of course, would have trustd this villainous man, even though it may have seemed a great folly. Just as obvious, however, was the intent of this new self. The present him would have nothing of trust. He'd been betrayed far too many times to trust even a saint or religious figure -- this vicious demon of fear had no chance for trust.
Why was it now that Aoshi had to remember his old identity, the very same which he'd struggled to put behind and forget? While he would certainly have had an easy time making such a choice as this seperately, when brought so painfully together, as this situation did, the choice was not as clear. Anger? Trust. Trust? Anger! No, clearly not, trust of course! "Well for ****'s sake!" Aoshi nearly yelled. The Xarian flipped upside down as he fell to the ground. He was silent for a moment. "For your sake, you'd better not be lying." In the end, it was neither trust nor anger that won out. It was love. His love which in all these many hundreds of years had still not yet faded, and the burning desire to set right what was once wronged that brought back his old self, if only for a moment. OOC: meh, it's a post, right? XP |

"I may have no soul, but I am not human. I do not lie." he said. "Now, take us back, and we can be done here." |

Aoshi nodded, closing his eyes. Slowly, the world about them began to blur, slowly gaining more color. Then, it changed faster. Everthing began to spin, almost violently. Time became distored; were hours passing, or mere seconds? The visual contortions of color and shape became almost nauseating. Then, suddenly, it stopped. They were back where they were. Aoshi saw his body, still standing, and slowly drifted back inside, watching carefully to see that the demon before him did the same. |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | The demon of fear re-entered his body and opened his eyes. He nodded at the Xarian, and snapped his fingers once. All the nightmares ended. The flow of blood ceased, the encroaching death stopped, and...What? The third had already broken his fear? The demon made a note to mark this human well, few could resist their greatest fears.
"There." he said at last. "Our deal is done." And with that, he vanished into flames. *** Cloud pulled himself back into a standing position. He looked over at Aoshi. "Thanks," he mouthed silently, and then fell face first to the ground. The strain caused by breaking his greatest fear was immense, and the protective barrier the demon had encased himself with had not helped. Overtaxed and exhausted, Cloud passed out. OOC:yeah, back to the longer ones |

He allowed a corner of his mouth to rise slightly as Cloud thanked him -- he hadn't experienced such a gesture all that often recently, and certainly not as sincerely as Cloud put it. The Xarian watched as the blond man fell to the ground, unconscious. He couldn't blame him; he felt like doing similar. And then, he heard her.
"Akari--?" Aoshi whirled around to face Kari, the speaker of the words which were so familiar. Alas, she had fallen to the ground as well. The blademaster walked towards her, and when he got closer he could hear her soft breathing. "Akari...voreta?" OOC: still developing the language so not sure on how that should really go, but he basically said "Akari... did you say something?" i guess XP |

I don't understand what you're saying... Aoshi..." she breathed, reaching up and touching his face gently. The Cetra struggled to stand, using the blademaster as an aid. She had gotten to her feet, but her knees faultered and she fell into the man. "I'm so sorry, Aoshi.. I still feel rather weak.. Where's Mr. Cloud...?" she inquired, feeling dizzy. |
