All that the queen could hear was heavily labored breathing. Akari felt tears welling in her eyes at the thought of her beloved in such agony. With the help of the crew around her, they managed to break down the door after quite some time. Akari steped in first; the others waited in respect. "Haikon..." she breathed, stepping closer to his limp figure. "Xai...", she started. Tears began steaming down her face; this was it. She had found him. "... ya hikoa, Hai--"
Something had gone terribly wrong. OOC: Haikon = "Falcone"; Xai ya hikoa = "I'm here." |

SUre, it had been a rough landing, people got some scratches, and the Naga would never fly again, but he could always afford to replace it. Still, now was not the time for refunds, now was a time for revenge. When he caught up with them, soldiers would die, blood would spill, and to top it all off, if he did npt leave that facility alive, nobody would.
"General Glaive," Valkier commanded. "Get me a shuttle to Falcone's prison. One that can fly in buildings. I'd appreciate that. Oh and start running that defense program I made a month ago. Deploy it in Falcone's cell block. And you better hope to God that it works" |

"NO!", Akari screamed. "NOT NOW! NOT WHEN WE WERE SO GOD DAMNED CLOSE!" she screamed, pounding on the cage. "HAIKON!!!!!!!" she cried, falling to her knees. Why did this have to happen?? Not when they were so close. Akari could see Falcone's face. He was worn; he didn't even look the same anymore. She felt a tear roll down her cheek. What was she going to do?
Suddenly, Akari felt that mind-numbing migrane once more. She looked over to Falcone's right side; a stone. She screamed, falling to the ground and holding her head. Again, just as before, thousands of thoughts were being deposited and withdrawn into Akari's mind, millions at a time. Everything had been too easy; Akari had fallen victim to yet another trap. |

"By now you must have realized, nobody but nobody beats Valkier in the long term," Valkier stated. "I have enslaved planets, made civilizations, ruled an Empire and, haha, destroyed worlds. Did all of you think that I would be beaten by you lot?" Valkier stopped his patrol of the cages before the man, Hawkes, who looked enraged beyond reason. "Now, don't look at me like that, you must have known this was going to happen? Well, I guess that's that. Any sour comments or crude remarks before I take this lovely Queen and leave you rest to die in these impervious prisons?" Valkier, not even listening to the sounds of angry rebels walked towards Akari's new cell. With the touch of his fingers the cage dissolved leaving her alone and he was just about to take her hand when he saw the expression of slight pain on her face. Valkier looked from her to the stone in Falcone's cell. Well, Falcone seemed too far gone to pose a threat. Valkier picked up the stone in hand where it disappeared into the folds of his sleeve as if by magic. Then with his other hand, he bent to take her hand. |

That warmth was the whisp of a connection that he'd been able to forge with his beloved in the few seconds of clarity which he'd been allowed. Although he couldn't explain his feelings, in recent moments he'd somehow known that his beloved was growing nearer. He knew from that warmth which he felt, penitrating the icy cold which had surrounded him before. The warmth, he sensed, was growing stronger with each second that passed. Then, he could suddenly almost hear her voice.
Suddenly, his mind felt clearer, drastically more silent. In the midst of his blackness, he saw his beloved Akari, on the ground. He tried to get up and go to her, to call out to her, but found that he couldn't. Instead, he tried what he had earlier when this had happened, and sent her a telepathic message. Akari! Xai ya hikoa! Akari! Just as suddenly, another wave hit him. He could see, feel, smell, hear, taste. He cacophany in his mind had disappeared as though it had never been there. Falcone, however, knew otherwise. He could scarcely feel his limbs, and his vision was blurred beyond comprehension. Though he could hear clearly once again, it was all loud and out of proportion, greatly irritating. He longed to stretch his limbs, to moan, to groan. He longed to rub his eyes and hold his hands to his ears. He sensed, however, that this would not be wise. He knew, somehow, that to do so would bring more pain -- pain of the physical flavor instead of the mental, this time -- as well as reveal his consciousness to Valkier, whom he knew to be present by scent. As he lay, memories which had been subconsciously tucked away the past days came flooding back like an old home video. He clenched his teeth hard to keep from screaming or shouting angrily. Though normally he thought of himself as peaceful, vengence was due -- not for what had been done to him, especially, but what had been done to Akari. Those memories, too, flooded into his mind due to Akari's proximity. Falcone carefully and slowly transmitted a soft, telepathic message to each of his comrades, all of whom were in much better condition than he. Be not frightened, do not... react, said the message. Lend me some strength so I can recover. Privately, he sent a message to his wife: Akari, I wish my vision were not so blurred so that I could see your face.... He paused to rest before continuing. Oh how I've longed... to say this! Akari... xai rimere vou! OOC: last bit of xarian there: "i love you!" *cue crowd "awwww"* :P |

With a moment's hesistaion, he withdrew his futile thrust, and mentally gave some of his own strength to aid his greatest friend. In the meantime, however, he wanted to distract Valkier. His eyes burning with unimagined hatred, he spat on Valkier's shoes.
"You are a disgusting excuse for a human being, you weakling son of better rulers!" he shouted. Promptly, he extended his right hand and gave the emperor the finger. He hoped the strength he had lent, as well as the strength his men had lent, were helping Falcone recover... |

She opened her eyes slowly, looking up slightly. What energy she had left allowed her to smile. "Haikon... xai taoke rimere vou.." she whispered, her conciousness slowly fading. Akari reached out to touch Falcone's face. "Haikon.. Xa...i..." she began, her fingers almost in contact with his cheek.
And then, there was darkness. The last Akari could remember was someone grabbing her hand.. OOC: "Haikon xai taoke rimere vou" = "Falcone... I love you too.." |
| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | Valkier lifted Akari with one hand when he noticed something odd. She was quite limp and it only occured to him how much she was out of it when she collapsed on the floor. Meantime, his prisoner was relentlessly insulting him...
"Do you ever shut up?" Valkier roared at the man as he let go of Akari's loose hand. "Talk talk talk! If talk was water, we'd all be drowning! And you know what? I'm tired of your talk!" Valkier snapped his fingers and sheets of glass extended between each bar of Hawkes' cage. At first, the glass did not seem to do anything, until everyone realized how much silence had been delivered to them. It was sound-proof glass; something Valkier could not live without in his overhwelming lifestyle. "Now for the final blow," Valkier growled. "See this console on the wall? There's a button there that will kill you all by electricity and I can't wait to press it." With that, Valkier turned to make his way to the console. But he paused midway, something was stirring in Falcone's cell. But what else could it be but Falcone? But how? Valkier had not fed his mindless body in days and the Madness stone itself should have put him out of order forever. Sure enough, Falcone was beginning to move. Oh no! If he was strong enough he could break through the bars! That was: 'if' he was strong enough. But Valkier was not one to take chances. IN a state of panic, Valkier desperately rummaged through the sleeve the Madness stone had dissapeared. Where the hell was it!? |
| Eshe Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 485 | "Looking for something?" Akari said, grinning. When Valkier had picked her up earlier, Akari had managed to take the orb from his robes and hide it in her own, being sure to conceal it from the light to prevent it from diving her insane. She took a few steps towards Falcone's cage, keeping her eyes on the foolish emperor all the while. "Well now, haven't the tables turned, my LORD." she said, ending her sentence with a nice helping of sarcasm. The slightest movements of her husband made Akari's eyes light up with hope. Slipping the stone from inside her sleeve to inside her shirt, Akari gripped the bars of Falcone's cage.
"Hai--" she began, but the rest of her beloved's name was replaced with a loud scream as the bars began to burn her hands. The scent of burnt flesh filled the room as she fell back onto her rear, holding her singed hands. The bars... are traps too. But how did.... Akari remembered that only moments ago the Emperor had touched the bars, causing them to dissolve. Suddenly something clicked. It must only respond to his touch.. or... be anti-Xarian..., she concluded. "Well, someone's done a bit of research, hasn't he?" she said, glaring at the emperor as she saw him approaching her. She scooted away, backing away from the sadistic ruler until she ran into a wall. "That's quite an accomplishment, I'd say. I mean, considering how you've been stupid enough to let us get THIS far. You really have outdone yourself. Finally, after we've managed to escape your supposedly 'impregnable' ship and all... I'm glad to see you've FINALLY gotten your little minions to do all the hard thinking that you couldn't handle." OOC:edited for a HORRIBLY misused word XD |

"Idiot." He said, though Valkier couldn't hear him, nor was he paying attention. Lifting his blade of energy, he struck out at the cage, slicing through the flimsy soundproof glass. Now audible again, he spat through one of the holes he cut, hitting the back of Valkier's head. "You really are stupid," he said, shaking his head. "Here I am, thinking that you have to be smart to run an empire. Clearly, I was wrong. Nice to see you have intelligent lackeys, though. Few lackeys are smart enough to make such nice cages. Too bad you bought such cheap soundproof glass." |

"That burning cage, that madness stone, this very building, all of it came from right here!" Valkier tapped the side of his skull and smirked at all who watched.
"Strangely, luck has been on your side throughout this whole fiasco," Valkier said appreciatively as he strode towards Akari menacingly. "UNfortunately, it is all coming to an end and things are about to happen, horrible things" said Valkier. "See, I can still kill the mall at any time. But I'm willing to make a deal with you, since you're so brilliant with such things." Valkier extended his hand to the weak one, backed into a corner as she was. "Give me the madness stone and surrender, fully and truthfully and I will spare your armed entourage. Think about it, no more war, no more strife, but if you refuse, countless warriors will die a slow and painful death. All it takes is your word and a stone of no real significance" Valkier smiled, much like a devil with a contract in hand rather than the pistol he was reaching for with his other hand. "What'll it be?" |

He was similarly tempted to grin as he heard his wife insult the same man, as well. Though he still felt physically weak, his mind was as clear as ever, and Falcone hoped that was all he would need, especially after all the trauma that Valkier had gone through today. He waited a few moments yet, but sensed that the time for action was at hand. If Valkier wasn't bluffing, which he doubted he was in this situation, he had very little time to act. While he didn't expect his clever wife to return Valkier's trump card to him so easily, he wanted to make sure that they kept the stone, so that it could be studied to find a way to fight it. He only hoped his acting skills were up to par after being in such a miserably mindless state for so long -- he could only guess how long it had been. Mustering all the strength he'd been given and had been able to recover, he forced himself to stand up smoothly. Though he did not move with anything relatively close to being described as "quickness," it was fluid and didn't appear strained. Keep moving, Falcone, he told himself. Just a few more steps... Slowly but deliberately, Falcone made it from his position on the floor to his wife's side. Now came the easy part. He moved to be slightly in front of her, so that one side of her body was hidden by his larger one.
Put your arm on me and lend me some energy, Falcone sent telepathically. I have a feeling he'll want a show of strength, and I'm not quite ready for that... not that he knows. He looked at the emperor with surprisingly calm eyes, though his eyebrows were furrowed in an obvious display of how greatly he detested this man. He flexed his hands, clenching and unclenching them into fists, not showing the great pains which he went through to do so. The Xarian cleared his throat, testing out his vocal chords before he used them. "So, coward," the King said purposefully. Though his voice started out without much force, it gradually blossomed into a rich, regal tone which he had inherited from his father. "thought you'd won? Think again. You seem to forget the disadvantage that you're at -- you've lost your stone, the only means you had to control me. And now here you are, without your escorts and your guards. I, on the other hand, have all of the weapons at my disposal with which I defeated you once before, now that your precious stone is out of your control. On top of that, my wife is with me, effectively doubling both of our strength. Your bargaining chip is the life of my comrades. My bargaining chip is your life. How about this: You free them and leave us to return from whence we came, and myself and my wife will allow you to leave this planet with your life." OOC: my 700th post! w00t! Also, I've broken 3k exp! :D |

It was such a relief to see his regal form before her once again; she had forgotten how much she admired him. Hearing his voice was like hearing angels singing; it was smooth and warm. As quickly as he had spoken, she not only put one arm on him, but wrapped her arms around him in a tight embrace. Anything for you, love. I do hope you have a plan... she replied, watching the expression on Valkier's face.
Moments later, when Akari was feeling slightly drained from giving her husband her energy, she let go of Falcone and smirked at Valkier. Her face had a sort of expression that one could interpret as 'Now we've got you.' |

Whipping himself about he saw him, the one person he knew was dead, mentally or physically. Sure enough, there he was, standing (rather shakily...odd) before Akari like the wall of a great fortress, tall and mighty.
"Oh shit!" Valkier stuttered. He started to back up in his state of panic. This was a thing unheard of. It was like he was back from the beyond, but how? More than that, he seemed all to ready to do him in. But how much truth was contained in his threats? Even coming out of a several days trance must have drained him, and he looked malnourished as usual. "So," Valkier calmed himself, even though he continued to back towards the wall behind him. "You want to play a game of chicken? Who's going to crack first?" Valkier whipped out his Hunter's Rifle, and aimed it straight at the Xarian. "I don't think you're as powerful as you say. Not yet at any rate. So, who's going to cave?" Valkier was still unsure on how smart he was being, but he obviously did not have much too lose but his life. |
