Her knees shook from her severe lack of energy, but yet there she stood fast, ready to take a bullet for the one she loved. "If you wish to kill him, Valkier, you will have to go through me, you imbecile. And we all know you're quickly aging. My, you're already twice as old as I am! In apperance, of course. My, my, you are probably losing any potence you DO have!" she chuckled. "You don't want to die without an heir, do you? Your chances at ever even attempting to get one out of me have failed miserably, and I really doubt any women in your empire would really care to father your child. They'd probably kill it, or themselves, first."
Sweat trickled down Akari's face as she gripped her husband's hand, sending him as much of her energy as she possibly could. "Just try, I dare you." |

"You know what?" said Valkier as the gun lowered. "You're right I don't want to die without an heir. and so-" Valkier's thumb flicked the switch between death and temporary paralysis on his rifle. "-I guess I'll just have to do this!" Raising the gun once again, Valkier pulled the trigger and hoped to God he struck her in the chest. Just as surmised, a blast of electric energy erupted from teh end of his rifle. It would be over in a a single instant. |

She attempted to deflect the attack somehow, yet from the sheer amount of energy she had given up it was impossible. The blast hit her chest dead-on. Akari felt like something was squeezing all of the blood out of her heart. The shock ended, and her grip on Falcone's hand was gone. She gripped her chest, and fell to her knees, and then to the floor. Her ebony tresses fell onto the cold floor around her as her vision began to blur. The last image she had was of her husband.
"Xai teijire, mairei..." she whispered. The Queen then fell unconcious. OOC: Xai teijire, mairei = I'm sorry, beloved/my love/dear |

Though he sensed that she'd been merely stunned, he was nevertheless furious. Anger, as known universally, is a very powerful emotion. Love, of course, is even more so. Falcone's eyes grew aflame instantly, and his breathing became slower as he forced himself not to lose control whilst rage and adhrenaline pumped through his veins. The air about him seemed to grow thick with heat and the sheer force of his anger. A spark flew from his right hand, then another, faster and faster. Soon, his hand and arm were riddled with bolts of electricity, shining an eerie, pulsing light throughout the dimly lit room. It was much like fire, although a good deal more violent and a great deal less comforting. He took a step towards the fleeing coward of an emperor.
"You have made a grave error, dear emperor," Falcone said with an exaggerated bit of emphasis on the last word. "You've called the wrong bluff. I suggest you release my comrades and flee whilst your legs are still intact. After all, you don't need legs to press a button, now do you?" As he spoke, the lightning became even more ferocious, a few bolts leaping out dangeriously towards Valkier himself. |
| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | "Hmm...this is true, but as you can see," Valkier waved his hand before the console. "There is more than one button and if I were to lose my legs, reaching the console would be a considerable effort. I might slip and kill everyone in the cages. So, maybe you should reconsider your threats"
THis was not good. Valkier knew the magnitude of this one's power, perhaps he knew it even better now due to his studies. Now, he had enraged this one and he was gathering considerable strength. Of course, his anger might blind him from what was truly important in this match. Valkier still had the rifle with nine more shots in the energy clip and could readily wound or kill the man with a twitch of the finger. On the other hand, Falcone might have exactly the same potential to kill him. It seemed like a draw but Valkier had a last resort if things got out of hand. And all he had to do was snap his fingers. |

"I needn't reconsider. If you reach for that button I'll simply remove your arm." Falcone was feeling more and more like his strength was returning, but he knew that he was still not quite up to snuff. His bluff was rather convincing however -- the electricity continued to crackle with life, growing more violent for a few seconds then returning to "normal"; even still the electricity could not be described as "tame."
"Now that I think about it," the Xarian king said with malice and mischief. "You only need one hand to push a button. In fact, I bet you could press it with a stub of an arm. Maybe I'll chop off one arm at the shoulder, and remove the other at the elbow, how does that sound? You'll be an awfully funny sight back in your "merry" court with no legs and only one stump of an arm. I might do that now just for the humour of it, if you don't agree this instant. Why, why don't I just kill you now and find the right button for myself? It won't be too hard." He paused, letting his threats sink in. As he paused, he held up his right arm and caused the lightning to become vastly more intense, sending a single bolt hurtling towards the stone ceiling, accompanied by a loud "crack." "What do you say, emperor?" |
| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | Valkier eyed the light-show King. If he wanted him dead so badly he would have just done it. At full strength he beat him down without breaking a sweat. Now he was just threatening him with his randomly placed lightning bolts and words. Still, there was always the threat of his wrath fetting out of hand.
"Actually, I would look funny with only a stub of an arm at the council," Valkier said thoughtfully. "Of course, nothing a little prosthetic can't fix. In the meantime" Valkier swung the rifle back over his shoulder and ripped a gas grenade from his belt, the second of three. "I have things to attend to. And you're going to have a hell of a time." Valkier tossed the grenade at Falcone's feet, where it burst in a cloud of enveloping gas. At the same time, Valkier dived to prop Akari over his shoulder. Then he bounded out during the confusion and made his way to the console. He slammed down his Imperial fist to kill all in the cages. "10 minutes to lockdown and self-destruct," a monotonous voice came from the loudspeakers Valkier did not even know were there. "What!? Cancel command!," Valkier cried in vain. But, he was already locked out of the system. Him! the Emperor! And 10 minutes! That was far too long. Oh well, he knew the backroads of this place, and Falcone would have people to free (which might be consideraly easier; the power was out, the program was dead!), seeing as Valkier hit the wrong button. So, seeing nothing else he could do Valkier sprinted, a limp Akari over his shoulder, and made his way out of the prison, the whole thing rattling behind him. |

The Queen glanced about her, gripping her arms as she struggled to regain some kind of warmth. She began walking, glancing about the darkness. Akari had no idea where she was. The Xarian continued walking, wondering to herself. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something. Akari whirled about, and saw what appeared to be her parents. 'Father', she mouthed. The Queen was bewilered; no words escaped her lips. 'MOTHER!' she tried to scream. Again, nothing. She ran towards them as fast as she could, though her legs were burning and sore. Akari lept towards them and, in a flash of blood red light, she saw them again. Yet now they lay on the dark ground, bloody. She took a few steps back in horror. Her parents lay before her, their eyes open with horror just as they had in the moments before they perished.
Suddenly, the pungent stench of blood filled the room. She glanced around, horrified. The Xarian Queen was surrounded by bloody, dead bodies. There was nowhere for her to move without stepping on a familiar face. To her left was her Father-in-law, to her right her best friends. Akari was surrounded by the ones she had known and loved, fellow Xarians who had perished where she had lived. Tears streaked the broken Queen's face. As she was about to cover her eyes, Akari screamed; her hands were covered in blood. Was their death her fault? Was she supposed to have been able to protect them? Akari was their Queen, and she had survived. The queen ran her hands through her hair and gripped it, nearly pulling her chrimson-stained ebony tresses out, and screamed. |

"Dumb...son of a bitch...is not...getting away...this time!" he muttered as he ran, though no one could hear him. At a dead sprint without a limp body over his shoulder, he was making rapid gain on the evil Emperor and would soon overtake him. Valkier was visible now. It would only be a few seconds. They reached a straight away, and Hawkes took the oppurtunity. He pushed himself even harder to hit full out sprint, and leapt over the emperor and blocked his path. As the evil ruler was still running, Hawkes shoulder drove himself into Valkier's gut, seeking to knock him down. |

Valkier Quickly unslung his rifle and pointed it straight at Hawkes. A trigger was pulled and a flash of light followed. THat was a damn good shot; Hawkes would be dead, and Valkier could make his escape.
Suddenly, the lights went out. Probably an electric failure caused by the lockdown command. "Great timing," Valkier sneered. Stooping to pick up Akari, Valkier righted himself and was about to run when he saw Hawkes' illuminated blade in the blackness... |

However, now was not the time to be angry at one's self. They had less than ten minutes before the place would go up in flames and indiscriminantly destroy all its occupants -- namely, them. Falcone moved slowly towards the cages, and one by one he destroyed the cages using a Xarian spell which didn't rely on his own energy to work. As they were freed, the soldiers sprinted away to assist Hawkes, except for the last ones, who stayed to help Falcone get out faster than he could on his own.
OOC: bah, total crap but it had to be posted, and sooner is better than later :P |

The shot hit his left shoulder, putting that arm out of action for a little bit, but he was still alive and very concious. Then the lights went out, and the only thing visible was Hawkes' blade. He pointed it at where he thought Valkier was, and, sure enough, the blade illuminated the skulking form with the limp head of Akari dangling around his chest as she was slung over his shoulder.
"Just let her go, Valkier, and we all get out of here alive!" he said, not moving at all, but prepared to spring in case Valkier tried anything funny. |
| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | Valkier was staring down a glowing blade of energy, with Akari still on his shoulder. He wasn't sure he knew where Hawkes was, but he was right in front of him. He could not get rid of this guy! He was trying to get away, but Hawkes clung to him like an anaconda, an anaconda that persisted on threatening him. And there was only one way to make an anaconda unwind.
Valkier slid his prize rifle over his shoulder and slid a pistol from his coat, pointed it behind him and pulled the trigger half-expecting it to hit home, and half-knowing that it might miss. But, what could he do in such a situation? |

Hawkes heard the trigger pull and had begun to spin his weapon, but just barely was fast enough. The shot reflected off an edge of his blade and hit his left arm again. As if hundreds of fires had burst to life on his arm, Hawkes yelled in pain. Angry now, more so than ever, he brought himself up close to Valkier, pointing the blade at his throat. "Now, let's try this one more time." Hawkes said, his voice sounding hoarse after all the yelling he'd done that night. As the words left his mouth, there were some scattered yells down the passageway and flashlights illuminated Valkier's silouitte. Hawkes grinned. His crew made it to hear, and they were about to make it out. All of them "Familiar, isn't it?" he said, grinning. "We were already here tonight, weren't we? Now, the deal is the same as before. Are you going to take it this time?" |
| Vern_5 Joined: 31 May 2005 Posts: 212 | Valkier took one look at Hawkes' grinning face and sneered. His eyes flicked between his dumb grin and the burning wound on his shoulder. THen he contemplated the offer...and would have agreed if he was not fully armed. Sure he had a sword in his face but he knew he was the faster, even in his old age. Taking the arm that held Akari on his shoulder, he found a way to take the tiny bayonet blade of his pistol and placed it softly on the skin of her neck. With the other arm, he released the second pistol to swiftly aim it at Hawkes' head, almost parallel to the swordsman's arm.
"Well, isn't this amusing," Valkier groaned. "Again, you speak as if you have the upper hand! Let's not forget who has the only other Xarian in the galaxy on his shoulder. I could kill her right now, and if anything jars me at this precise moment...well, although she will die peacefully she will still be dead" Valkier reminded him. "Never forget your place in the galaxy, fool! You are a failure. Even after infiltrating my ship, stealing her back for a time and making your way to Falcone's prison, you have ultimately failed" Valkier prepared to step back; if they were smart enough, which seemed doubtful, they would let him go. And when they did decide to let him go, Valkier knew the first thing he wanted to do when he found the time: put Akari down! For such a dainty queen, she was surprisingly heavy on his shoulder... |
