"Kaze-kun," Genya said, "I believe that this man is yours for the interrogation, but try not to open your eye too much, there may be stronger opponents out there." He turned to Amarante. "So this is Haruki?" he asked, gesturing at the genin who had come with Amarante. "It's obvious their leader is simply tired of waiting. I'd expect another attack within the next day or so, better organized and much larger. Be wary. Rest for now, and we will discover the enemies plan later." |

And then to the Genin: "Sorry for waking you up... apparently you're safe for now. See you guys in the Wren Building at 10 am sharp!"
They collectively groaned, but did as they were told, fading into the darkness in different directions. "If you need lodgings, the upper floor of the Wren Building has rooms." She handed Genya a rough map, with an X on the building. "Only the 2 ANBU live there. The lower floor, as I alluded to before, is the schoolroom." She took out a silver permanent marker, and circled her house on the map. "That's my and Haruki's house. If you need me, just come anytime. I'll show you a better map, among other things, in the morning." "For now," she paused to yawn, "I'm gone." She walked back home, put her arm in a splint, and passed out on the black futon in the living room. As the world faded into soft, dark canvas, she sang sleepily: "On and on and on and on, the smallest hope is never gone. My optimism always is well fed. And if I die before I wake, I pray for all of goodness' sake that you are happy where you lay your... head... Your head..." --------------------- Amarante woke up, suddenly aware of the chirping of birds, and bright sunlight. "I should really get curtains one of these days. Quite sad, considering I'm the leader and all..." She showered, dressed, and made breakfast for Haruki and herself. She cooked sausage and eggs, and toasted some bread. Had it just been a nightmare? "No," she said, wincing and setting her elbow the best she could. The ANBU could probably fix her up better. Haruki came down half an hour later, still dripping wet and half naked. He made a sandwich, and went back up the stairs. He shook his head, like a dog dries off, while climbing. This particular habit of Haruki's reminded Amarante that he was growing up, and someday soon, she would have to tell everyone. Someday soon likely being today. Amarante cleaned up, and left with Haruki after he had gotten ready. As they were walking, she decided to tell him. He deserved to know before everyone else, after all. She told him that she was not his birth mother, but that she still loved him like her own. She told him of his powers. And Haruki still walked beside her, smiling. "Somehow, I've always known," Haruki said. "But it's nice to hear you say it." Amarante smiled back through tears, at her own stupidity and lack of courage. He was growing up, something sad and beautiful at the same time. "You're something special, you know that? No matter what, I'll always love you." They hugged tightly, but let go after noticing their proximity to the Wren Building. Amarante wiped her face, and they went in together. OOC:Edited to bring closure to Amarante's day.

As a note, Kaze will probably not be awake whenever you guys are ;)
Nenshoukaze nodded, understanding fully. While he treasured the interrogation abilities which the Onigan granted him, he also worried almost every time he used it -- worried that he would lose control. For this very reason, he tried to limit himself to only using it in interrogations, and even then he didn't release the last handseal in the jutsu used to temporarily release the seal he put on it. Despite his apprehension, however, he knew that it was his duty to use it, and did so without complaining. Swiftly, the young Jounin moved over to the captured ninja. Kaze tilted his hat up and stared into the man's eyes; the latter recoiled in surprise at Kaze's pupil-less eyes, but Haine's wires would not allow him to break eye contact. Nenshoukaze's hands moved in a blur to perform a short series of seals, and at the end he closed his eyes for a moment, before opening his left. This eye was no longer pupil-less. However, it was by no means a normal pupil -- it was a vertical slit, against a field of red. To either side of this slit was a small, dark red dot. The captive ninja immediately stiffened, and the color drained from his face. "I am..." the captive said slowly, his face starting to grow sweaty, "...to capture... boy... alive. Kill all... in way...must not... fail." Immediately he fell limp, gasping for breath. Nenshoukaze released his handseal and stood up, adjusting his hat. "There's nothing else," he said simply, his left eye once again pupil-less. "Seems this was a bunch of ignorant grunts, hired by someone else." OOC: I can change his mission if someone has a better idea... really wasn't sure what to write X3 |

She pulled the wires a bit more tightly when the man tried to escape and, when Kaze was finished with his interrogation, released him as he fell limp. With a quick flick of her wrists the wires quickly flew back into her gloves. Haine put her hands on her hips and grinned from underneath her rice hat. "Seems like ignorant grunts are all we ever get, huh, Newbie?", she asked Kaze with a smirk. She sighed, streaching her arms up and over her head, taking the map when the village leader handed it to the three. Replying with an 'un, wakatta', she pocketed the map and pointed to a building a few blocks away. "We're staying over there. Let's go, I'm beat."
That said, Haine didn't hesitate to jump off towards the building that had been designated for them to stay in. Upon reaching the room, Haine nearly squealed with glee, jumping onto one of the two beds and savoring it's warmth and softness. "This is heaven!", she exclaimed, rubbing her face in the sheets. She removed her large treanchcoat and hung it up in the closet, sitting back down on the bed as she waited for the other two to arrive. |

Genya's silver eyes glowed as he looked out the window he was near. Leaning back against the wall in the corner, he could see most of the small village with ease. He ran a hand through his color streaked hair absently as he watched the streets below. "Where did Kaze get to?" he asked, looking back to the younger member of the Thirteen. |

He hesitated for a moment before he placed his right hand on the inside of the window, and stepped inside with his raised leg, then moving the other one inside as well. He glanced about the room, then removed his hat and tossed it like a frisbee onto a bed -- quite on the opposite side of the room as Haine's. He then began to walk towards that bed, taking the sunglasses from his jacket pocket and donning them before slowly removing the scarf.
"I secured the perimeter," Kaze said blandly. "Any grunts should be delayed or outright stopped, and we should at least know about anyone beyond that level." |

"Well thank you for taking that extra little precautionary measure, newbie.", she said in an irritated fashion. After a few moments of silence on her part, Haine finally spoke up again. "I hope we get paid well for this... protecting such a useless town." As she finished this sentence, she pushed herself up off the bed and walked towards the window. "You can't blink when walking through this town; you'd miss it.. I wonder what this place has that's so special." |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | Genya snorted.
"You haven't answered my question, and therein lies this towns greatest power." he said, looking back from the window. "The boy," he said, "Is not that different from the Hokage, in terms of his inner abilities. He will learn to use them in time. He is far stronger than he knows, he could destroy this little hamlet if he knew how. His strength is not determined by the phase of the moon like almost all the others here. However, the ability to draw off the moon's light gives their shinobi a significant advantage if the phase is correct..." |

As he moved, his thoughts moved back to the Hokage, and his home Leaf Village. Surely those students under his tutelage would be wondering where he was -- he was supposed to meet them earlier that afternoon, after all. He shrugged this concern off, however; his Kakashi-like tardiness was quite normal to them by now, and he knew that it was a smart decision to be late all those times. As irritated as they got, they were conditioned, and wouldn't see anything out of the ordinary if he didn't show up on time.
"Sound like a bunch of vampires to me," the young Jounin said, quickly bringing his focus back to his present location. He rolled over and pulled the covers up, hoping the others would follow suit. He had a sinking feeling that they would be awoken early, and was eager to get in as much sleep as was possible. |

Amarante went up the spiral staircase to the second floor, Haruki in tow. She knocked on the door a few times, and then waited for an answer. They had to eat and get moving, they had much to do. Haruki looked at his foster mother, a sneaky look in his eyes. "Can we go to Shinya-jichan's bakery? Pleeeeease??" Amarante laughed. "Whenever we have guests, you always try to get me to let you eat out. Yeah, it's ok, you know Shinya-kun's bread is my weakness. But you'll have to see what our guests think." She cuffed him on the head. "Ow, what was that for," Haruki said, rubbing his head. "Shinya-kun's younger than I am." "SORRYYY. I'm so soryyyy I'm sorry please don't kill me I'm soryyyyyy..." |

"Awake. We have work to do." he said, throwing a bucket of ice cold water on both of them. "Not to mention we're late as it is." He was careful to avoid letting a grin escape, however funny this scene seemed. "Come on now, let's go." he said, and without another word, disappeared. |

She noticed that two of them were drenched, and the other one looked amused. Amarante crossed her arms, chuckling. "Ah, ice-water. Very effective as a wakeup mechanism, but it does tend to make you none too popular."
As usual, Kai and Miyo walked in one after the other. "Sensei, ohayou gozaimasu," they said almost simultaneously. Amarante nodded in recognition, and then said to Haruki, "Actually, no bread today, I think we've got far too much to do... By the way, could you get the ANBU for me? Thanks ever so much." Haruki went back to the stairs without a word. "You too, Kai and Miyo." They followed Haruki to the lower level. Amarante watched them go, and as soon as the door slammed, she said grimly, "I get weaker every day. Pretty soon I'll be powerless--shitty luck, but I'll work with what I got." She rubbed her temples. "I've got a couple more people who could help us, but they're in the same situation." She looked up, dead serious. "I've never been in this situation before. I don't know what to do, and that scares me. But that's why you're here. If it was just the lackeys, we could take care of it, but..." But their group is stronger and more extensive than I can probably imagine. OOC:AARGH~ ;D; |

Nenshoukaze woke up with a shock -- quite literally. Before he even knew what was going on or could even see properly, he had adopted a fighting stance and his hands were surrounded by a glowing, sparking layer of chakra. Had the morning blurriness not left his vision, he would surely have given Genya quite a pounding. Though he still wanted to do that after noticing the water pail in the man's hands, Nenshoukaze thought better of it and relaxed. He drew his hands together forming the standard chakra-focusing seal, and used his energies to force the water off his skin and out of his clothes, effectively drying himself off (and, hopefully, giving Genya a small dose of his own medicine). "Thanks for the shower, ya jerk," the young Jounin said irritatedly as he grabbed his scarf and hat, donning them while quickly removing his sunglasses and putting them away. "Looks like we're on the move, madam Amarante," Nenshoukaze said respectfully as he swung his large black cloak about him. "I assure you that your worries will end soon." For now, at least, he added mentally. With that, he leapt up slightly and dissappeared, following Genya. OOC: hope you remember where you left for, boots :P |
| Asai Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 638 | On a nearby rooftop, Genya waited for Nenshoukaze. His silver eyes surveyed the morning lit hamlet, his sharp mind noting all the buildings, street lights, and townspeople he could see. Random bits of information he thought he might need during a crucial moment in the battle. When Kaze arrived he continued studying the town as he addressed his comrade.
"They will send a scouting party at midday, then spend the evening laying their plans." he said, taking particular intrest in a watertower with a crooked brace. "They know the villagers power is based of the phase of the moon and the power of the moonlight at the time of the attack, so they've got a slight advantage since the moon isn't full and there seems to be a storm coming later in the evening." Part of his intel on the phases and weather came from the scattered conversation of villagers on the streets beneath them, which his earring allowed him to easily decipher and understand. "Now, since this is also to further your learning, what would be your recommended plan of defense?" |
| Digithe Joined: 24 Aug 2003 Posts: 884 | Posted: Sat Jul 08, 2006 5:18 pm | Characters: All for this theme; By Digithe: This theme, Any theme As soon as he landed softly on the rooftop Nenshoukaze's eyes began to glow softly, and were apparently completely devoid of any color but white. As it was the only part of his face visible -- the scarf and the straw hat obscured the rest -- it created a rather creepy aura about him, as of some monster observing its prey. The young Jounin did not immediately respond to his superior, but instead remained almostly deathly still. Though it was impossible to tell, he was once again analyzing every nook and cranny of the village with those eyes of his.
"For starters, as I'm sure you know, my perimeter defenses are all quite intact -- they have yet to try anything, for the moment," observed Nenshoukaze cooly, his voice soft yet clear, despite the scarf about his mouth. "I agree that they will send that scouting party. There are two possibilities here, however. First, they will miss their buddies which we dispatched last night, and, if they are smart, will guess that some force is helping the villagers and thusly be more cautious. In this case, I suspect they will do their best to find out and avoid, if not outright destroy, my traps. This will be much more conceivable since they now have the advantage of daylight, which they did not last night. The second case is as the first, they miss their friends. But, instead they are foolish and don't understand the meaning, thus plunge forward and meet our traps. "If the first case is true, then we shall have to be on much higher alert, for we cannot rely on any advanced warning. We may also need to send out some patrols on our own, as I doubt their scouts will approach too near the village out of fear. The second case is, of course, easier. We simply need to keep an eye out on the village and listen for my traps. When they set one off, we should be there to capture them in hopes of finding more information -- perhaps the location of their hideout. If they are useless, then we should either hold them as hostages or dispatch them, of course. "As for defense at night, that is a whole other issue. Ideally, we will have discovered their hideout, one of us shall have scouted it out, and we will have attacked them before they prepared their fighting force. Worse case, they will have avoided capture, have scouted out the village, and sent the whole of their army in one massive campaign which will inevitably proove somewhat difficult for us to win and still protect the village from destruction while also making sure the Amarante and the boy are safe. I suppose, in response to the worst case scenario, I should recommend making a big show of defense in all but one spot, from which they will be forced to enter. One of us shall oversee the main defenses, which be manned by the best in the village, and also to guard the boy. The other will manage the small force at the opening, destroying any who attempt to use it. During the lulls, this one should sweep about the other sides, dispatching any problem ninjas. "This is all conjecture, however," Nenshoukaze ended good-naturedly, scratching the back of his head and chuckling lightly. "I wasn't expecting to be put on the spot so!" |
