In the small Hidden Village of Waterfall, a young girl of sixteen years was waking up. Groggily rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Haine slammed her fist down upon the alarm clock, quickly silencing it. The ninja stretched her arms and yawned, slothily swinging her legs over to the side of the bed. She stood up and shuffled over to the window and pulled aside the curtains, looking out upon the village. While it was a small town, it was still constantly buzzing with business and activity, from merchants selling their goods to children playing ninja in the streets. Haine grinned slightly and turned away from the window, unbuttoning the top of her pajamas. She tossed the shirt onto the edge of her bed and paused for a minute, staring at her right arm momentarily. With a slight shake of her head, the ninja removed her pants; these also she tossed onto her bed.

Haine reached into her cluttered closet and pulled out a black jacket with pink lining, as well as a pale pink pleated mini-skirt. After pulling the skirt on, she slipped into the jacket and closed it with the attatched sakura blossom clasps. She sat down upon her bed and lazily pulled up her thigh-high black stockings, slipping her feet into her black shinobi sandals when she had finished. With yet another yawn, Haine haphazardly brushed her hair and headed for the door. After locking the door to her apartment, she hopped down the stairs happily, putting her arms out perpendicular to her body when she landed on the ground.

"Oooi, Haine-chan!", a female voice called out.

"Ah, Mitsuki-chan, morning!", Haine replied, trotting over to her friend.

"Are you off to the flower shop?", Mitsuki inquired.

"Un! I've got a few displays and orders to fi--", Haine began, but before she could finish, a burning pain shot through the lower portion of her right arm. Wincing only slightly, Haine held up her hands, palms together. "Sorry, Mitsuki-chan, I forgot something in my apartment! I'll be right back!" Once Haine had 'apologized', she dashed up the stairs and unlocked her door, locking it deadbolt and all once she had re-entered. The burning increased slightly as she shuffled through her closet.

"I'm coming, I'm coming! Hold your horses!"

From inside her closet, Haine pulled out a large, black cloak and a plain rice hat. After placing the hat on her head, Haine pulled on the cloak. It fell around her slender frame rather flatteringly and, depending on the way it moved and the light it was in, sometimes seemed to have petals of sakura blossoms placed about it. When she was finally ready, Haine pulled up the right sleeve of the cloak and her jacket. With a sigh, she bit her thumb so that a small flow of blood began to drip from it. In a quick motion she ran the blood from her thumb down the middle of her arm in a straight line, and then made four more strokes to form what looked like the number '3'. Suddenly, the kanji for 'Release' or 'Escape' began to glow upon Haine's arm, as well as various markings and runes.

It was then that Haine began to make various hand signals extremely quickly, finishing when she slammed her palm upon the floor of her small apartment room. Several circles appeared, placed in a target fashion, with Haine in the middle. Each circle had it's own colored glow, as well as thousands of characters and runes, and they slowly began to fade, starting from the largest, outside circle. When the circles faded, Haine suddenly dissapeared from the room in a puff of dull, grey smoke.

In the depths of a dark, dank cavern, Haine reappeared the same way she had arrived. She coughed, waving her arm to get the smoke out of her face. "Tadaima~", she shouted cheerfully. Aside from The 13's leader, there were no other members present yet. With a frown she trotted over to where the Leader stood and smiled.

"You have a mission for me?", she asked politely.

"Actually, I have a mission for several of you.", he replied, matter-of-factly.

"Ehh? Really?", Haine said, crossing her arms over her chest. "This should be interesting.." With that, Haine walked over to a nearby boulder and sat down, crossing her legs as she waited for the other members hired to arrive.

OOC:XD; Well, here we go. This post happens right before the 13 come.

Amarante woke from a short nap on her desk to find that once again, one of the Black Hand had come to bug her about Haruki.

"Will you just give up? I'm not going to sell my own son," she said, answering the unspoken question. She rubbed her eyes, heavily-bagged from many such nights, and sighed.

The tall man smiled eerily, and said a short something that made her glad to have summoned The 13 two nights ago-- "Fine then."

Amarante knew that it most definately would not be fine, and ran off into the night to warn every ninja and citizen. Knocking on doors, sticking her head in windows, sometimes just yelling to the night sky, she got the word out. Everyone would have to be alert.

She went back to her small hut, to find Haruki fast asleep. Amarante shook her head. "Poor thing's got no idea of the danger he's in... And hopefully he never will."
OOC:XD; Well, the title fits.

Nenshoukaze had been training since four in the morning, using the darkness to help force his eyes to focus. While he was proud of attaining the third level of his Zenchigan, it was imperative that he not only master this third level, but also to achieve the fourth level. It would surely require very strenuous training to achieve this, and Nenshoukaze returned home after each training session feeling exhausted and hardly able to move. However, he also was able to use his level three Zenchigan for longer and longer periods of time before he became tired. His goal before looking ahead to the next level was to be able to sustain level three use for three whole days -- seventy-two hours straight. After that, training towards the fourth level would continue to increase his strength, and, he hoped, he would achieve mastery about the time he could maintain level four for an hour straight. Currently, he could handle fourty hours of sustained level three use, a relatively recent achievement. This day, he decided to take a break from his intensive training and celebrate, by cashing in on a couple "free bowl of ramen" coupons he'd been saving.

The first bowl was empty when Kaze felt the burning sting on his right arm. Frowning, he put away his second coupon and thanked the owner of the ramen shop for his hospitality. Though upset that his meal was interrupted, he was glad that the call hadn't come a day or so later -- if it had, he would have been nearing the end of his training, and would thusly have been unable to do anything. However, at the time he was feeling energetic and ready for anything.

The young Jounin returned to his apartment and hastily took a shower. He then proceded to don his uniform: dark pants, gathered at the calf, with grey cloth wrapping around the remaining part of his leg down to the feet, which were in standard Ninja's sandals; a plain, light-grey jacket, the tails of which hung over the top of his pants, and around which was wrapped a black, silken belt; and a long, blood-red scarf which wrapped around the lower half of his face and trailed down to his lower back. On top of this, he donned a thick, heavy, black trenchcoat which he never bothered to fasten properly; his scarf was plenty concealing. He removed his sunglasses, placing them in a pocket inside his jacket, and quickly pulled his hair back. To complete the ensemble he donned a simple straw hat, which, when combined with everything else, rendered him completely unrecognizable.

Sensing that he must hurry and get to the meeting, Kaze quickly rolled up his right sleeve. He pricked a few fingers on his left hand with his teeth and drew the symbol upon his arm with his blood. He then formed a quick series of hand-seals and thrust his right palm upon the ground. Instantly, he was surrounded by several concentric circles which began to glow, from the outer-most in, until they all glowed brightly. Kaze then disappeared in a puff of smoke, reappearing almost instantly in the large, underground cave that was The Thirteen's headquarters. When he looked up, he saw someone which made him heave a heavy sigh -- Haine.

"Yes, you are paired with Haine," the leader said with a chuckle. It was somewhat of a running gag that Haine and Nenshoukaze got along the worst out of any possible pairings within The Thirteen, and yet they always seemed to be paired together. More than one of the members seemed to get particular pleasure out of calling them the "newlyweds" because of their constant bickering with each other. The employment of this nickname generally caused them to settle down, but rarely for long.

"Oh joy, another pleasant mission with ol' bunches of fun over there," the young Jounin said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "What do we get to do now?"

"We are to go to Tsukigakure, it seems there's going to be some brutal slaughter unless we break it up" said a voice from the shadows. A dark figure broke away from a shadow nearby and stepped into the light.

"And just my luck..." he muttered under his breath, putting a hand to his straw hat and whipping it off his head. "I get to go with the Newlyweds..." The leader chuckled, he obviously heard.

"Did I forget to mention that you will also be working with Genya on this one?" he said, gesturing to the man. Genya bowed low, displacing his cloak with a sweep of his hand and revealing a silken black Chinese shirt with silver leaves and circles embroidered in it. He looked up at his partners, his silver eyes flashing.

"Shall we go?" he asked, grinning and hoping to god this would be quick mission.

Amarante walked over to her desk, and turned the monitor behind it on. She checked all the posts, everything seemed to be fine. She watched as the screen shifted from watching the North Gate, to the South Gate, to the Caves, to...

Suddenly Amarante bolted awake, horrified that she had fallen asleep in the first place. The time on the bottom of the monitor read 4:45 AM. She had been asleep for 5 hours! She broke into a cold sweat as the security camera switched to the South Gate.

The guards' last moments played out in gruesome clarity.

Amarante covered her mouth with her hand. Her friends, her neighbors, dead. She thought she was going to be sick.

It felt like someone else took over her body as she donned the traditional armor passed down through her clan. Pleated metal top and skirts, covered with a night blue surcoat. The family crest, pale yellow crescent moons, dotted the flowing gown. She retrieved her hand-scythes from the closet as well, and swung them experimentally. She removed her hitae-ate from around her neck, and re-tied it around her forehead. Amarante felt ready.

She reloaded her kunai pouch, grabbed a walkie-talkie, and kissed Haruki on the cheek. "Mom's gonna go try to protect you," she whispered gently. Without another thought, Amarante bounded off across the rooftops toward the village's south entrance.

Haine glared over at Genya and held up her middle finger, smiling sinisterly. "I'm glad to see you too, Genya." The ninja also gave Nenshoukaze an icy glare for his previous comment, sticking her tongue out as well. Turning to their Leader, Haine crossed her arms over her chest. "Tsukigakure? That tiny village? Who'd bother attacking that place?", Haine asked, surprised.

The 13's Leader rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed. "There's a group called the "Black Hand". We're unsure of their motive, but all we know is that we got an urgent call from Tsukigakure's chief and they requested our help immediately. That's where you three come in. Go to the village and stop them before they kill every member in the village, which wouldn't take long; there's only 53 people living in the village, and most are not ninja."

Haine chuckled, grinning toothily as she cracked her knuckles slightly. "Well I can't wait to get done with these idiots. This'll be a piece of cake!" She turned to look at the various exits from the cave, checking the logos above the doors. When she saw the symbol for Tsukigakure, she pointed it out. "This path, right?", she inquired. The Leader nodded and smiled to the three ninja.

"Now off with you; the Black Hand may already be moving.", he said, gesturing for them to get moving.

Haine gave the Leader a thumbs up before sticking her tongue out at the other two ninja. "I know you guys are slow, but let's get going!", she said cheerfully, dashing through the door beneath the Tsukigakure symbol.

Nenshoukaze sighed as he heard Genya's choice of nickname for the two shinobi. That man could be rather vicious in his teasing sometimes, and it tended to do little more than fuel the enmity between Kaze and Haine. Nevertheless, Genya was still a fellow member, and one of considerably greater rank in the organization besides. As the newest member of The Thirteen Nenshoukaze could, as of yet, do very little against the others, whether or not he was, in fact, more powerful. Though this irritated him to no small degree, he knew that he must start at the bottom if he ever hoped to make it to the top.

Never one to be left behind -- though he might leave people behind out of "forgetfulness" -- Nenshoukaze quickly activated his Zenchigan and summoned a Kageken in the shape of a Chinese straight sword, which he sheathed at his side. He then set off, silently, moving at a tight clip. This particular cave appeared to be much less used than any other he'd been in so far. He supposed that the small village had had little need for the elite group of ninja, just as the Thirteen had little use for the village. That is, until now.

"Looks like we should be just about there, as far as I can tell, anyway," the young Jounin said caually. "Either of you know anything about this 'black hand?'"

Genya had since replaced his hat and was trailing slightly behind the other two as they moved.

"Not sure, really." he said. "Just rumors and whispers. Many fear them, but it still is not certain the extent of their power." At their fast pace, they swiftly emerged from the cave to discover the village seemingly peaceful in the predawn light. Genya knew beyond a doubt all was not as it seemed, especially when, by his earring, he heard a faint cry for help - followed by a agonizing death cry.

"I fear we have missed the start of the battle..." Genya said, shaking his head. "We must move quickly, let's go!"

Amarante looked up at the sky, to check how much power she had to use, as she was traveling.
Waxing crescent, she thought, angry at her bad luck. I have only 1/4 of my power tonight, of all nights.

Amarante presently came to the lantern-post by the South Gate. One guard was swinging from the post, dead, and a another was being tortured by the same man who had visited her earlier.

"We will never tell you where they are!" said the Jounin fiercely. His voice cracked with fear as he saw Amarante step into the light. "NO, RUN!! HE'S A..."

There was a loud, wet snap as the tall man broke his neck.

The tall man laughed merrily and spoke to the dead man-- "Why, you're not allowed to ruin the surprise." Through the only gap in the fabric, his eyes shone like polished silver.

Amarante noticed the extraordinary grey eyes, and wondered if that was what the guardian had been trying to warn her about. If she remembered correctly, there was a folk-tale warning about people with grey eyes... But what that warning was had been blotted out in the great story-book of her villages' scribes lost to time. Amarante still wondered where that book had gone. It had valuable information between its covers.

Not time to worry about antiquities, Amarante, she thought to herself as she sensed impending danger. She ducked as several kunai flew by.

She sliced and spun, and she and the man danced a deadly dance across the rooftops. Give and take, slice and block, it seemed they were evenly matched. Until the grey-eyed one whispered something, and Amarante was hit with shadow-chakra that knocked her off a roof. She landed hard on her side, and she felt her left elbow shatter. Gasping for breath, she leaped back onto the roof with wide-eyed fury.

"What the hell was that?"

Amarante did the hand signs for Daiseisa no Jutsu with only her right hand, and fired it at the man. "DAISEISA!" She yelled, and aimed the best she could, given that she only had one good arm. There was a blinding flash, and the smell of charred skin.

The man uttered one thing, and then died: "I am but a tree in the forest."

Amarante was sick this time. With fear, and anger. Fearful that this man had only been one of the weaker lackeys, and angry at her helplessness. She leaned over the balcony and threw up.

OOC:PS, All members of the Black Hand are NPCs. Which means anyone can control them. KTHANXBAI. XD;

...That also means the number of them isn't determined.

OOC:EDIT: HOMG how embarrassing, I got Amarante's arms mixed up. *fixes*

OOC:EDIT2: now the Book is just an antiquity, of no importance. I decided that the "book hunt" idea was stupid. :p

"Ara ara...", Haine said, tsking as she casually sauntered up behind the Tsukigakure leader. "This isn't good, now is it?" The 13 member knelt down and held her hand out to the ninja, her smile the only portion of her face visible. "Ooi, kouzo!", Haine shouted, motioning towards Kaze. "Let's get her inside, there may still be some ni--"

Before Haine could finish her sentence, several ninjas clad completely in black landed on the rooftop. "Give Amarante to us, and we'll let you go. The girl laughed, standing up and turning her back to the Tsukigakure leader, her hands hidden within her sleeves. Slowly she stepped towards them, bringing her right hand out from her sleeve and waving her index finger slowly. "I'm afraid I can't let you guys do that.", she said mischieviously. One of the four ninja narrowed his eyes.

"Don't come any closer!", he shouted. When Haine continued sauntering over to the four, the one who had spoken up launched several kunai aimed at the girl's head. She merely leaned back and quickly flicked her wrist, the metal weapons suddenly stopping in midair, falling forward as if suspended by some invisible force by the handles. Moonlight flickered softly off the surface of th steel wire attatched to Haine's gloves, and the kunai dropped to the ground at her feet. The ninja growled and jumped at Haine.

"Muri da.", she said matter-of-factly, quickly flicking her wrist to the right. Balling her right hand into a fist, she pulled her arm back quickly in one swift motion, bringing along with it the right hand of the ninja. He screamed out in pain, falling to the ground as he watched blood pour from his hand. Haine turned her back to the three ninja left and smirked. "I'll leave the rest to you, gaki, Genya."

Genya grinned, he was hoping for that. He stepped forward and flexed his hands.

"Next?" he said holding out one hand, palm up, then bending his fingers in what was clearly a "just bring it" expression. One ninja snarled and leapt at him brandishing a scythe. With his extended hand, Genya caught the blade between his fingered tips and gave a sharp yank on the weapon. The ninja, refusing to release it, stumbled forward. As he passed Genya, Genya used his other hand to hit the back of his neck with a swift chop. As the man fell to the ground, electricity crackled around Genya's hand. The ninja, humilated but not actually hurt, tried pushing himself off the ground, but when he tried to move his arms, his legs moved instead and he couldn't coordinate his motion correctly and crashed back to the ground. Genya turned a silver eyed glare to the two remaining ninja.

"Oi, Kaze, these ones are your's." he said, not taking his eyes off them for a moment. "I want to have a little chat with my friend over here..." He pointedly drew his bladed chain at this remark, making sure the ninja he just downed could see his motion as well.

Nenshoukaze sighed and shook his head, unsheathing his sword in almost a melancholy way. He was tired of getting last dibs on victims, but he reminded himself that he was still new to the group. The extremely relaxed way in which the trio were taking down the goons' comrades only served to anger them further. Seeing that the one who would be fighting them was using melee, they wasted no time drawing their kunai and molding chakra to prepare some sort of jutsu.

Both efforts were, of course, futile.

The young jounin raised his sword, pointing it straight out towards one of his opponents. He then held his left hand in a tiger seal -- index and middle fingers up and tight together, with the rest folded in. His sword then glowed slightly, vaguely emitting a faint, electric-black color. Undaunted, his target prepared to throw a kunai. Before he could even cock his arm back, however, the blade was extending straight towards him at an impossibly fast rate. Surprised, but not to be caught off guard, he dodged to the side. Likewise, his friend dodged backwards, just out of range. The first grinned, proud that he had dodged the attack. However, Nenshoukaze soon began to grin as well. His hand twitched, changing angle ever-so slightly. The change at the end of his blade, however, was great -- and fast. In that same instant, the first ninja's head was rolling across the ground.

"NINPOU!" the second ninja shouted nervously. However, he would not finish the technique, for as soon as he finished this word his windpipe was severed. Nenshoukaze's sword quickly retracted back to its original length, and the second ninja's neck instantly spurted out a large quantity of blood. The young jounin swung his sword quickly downwards to fling the blood off of it. He then turned around and casually walked towards Genya.

"We only need one to get information, I suppose?" he asked his teammate calmly as he sheathed his sword. "You gonna get it, or do you want me to?"

Amarante sat down to watch, feeling helpless. This is one of those days when I wish I had been born into a different clan...

"You're members of the Thirteen? Just in time. Sad, but I ran out of power." She pointed at the moon angrily. "You guys find out why they're here, I'll go get my genin. They're probably still asleep!"

Amarante fast-walked (the best she could do) to the closest house, her own. She went in and retrieved Haruki, thankfully still there. "You don't know how glad I am to see you..."

"What the hell, mom, I was sleeping," Haruki complained quietly.

"...You," Amarante sighed. "Such a brat. Follow me, and bring your kunai."

haruki grumbled, but did as he was told. They walked to Kaemon's house, and slipped him out of his window. Later, they snuck Miyo out her back door.

Miyo whispered, "Sensei, daijoubu?" She was always the observant one.

"Y-yes," Amarante whispered quickly. She covered her bleeding elbow with her good arm. "I'll be fine. Now, there are three ninjas who are helping us tonight. Be polite, and..."

"We know," Haruki moaned. "Stop acting like my mother."

Smirking, Haine stepped towards the remaining ninja. "I'll get him.", she said bluntly, raising both her hands up to chest level. The opposing ninja turned to run, but with a quick flick of her wrists, Haine wrapped his body in her steel wires. "I suggest you don't move..", she said with a malicious grin. "If you try and run, I'll slice you like sashimi." The ninja's body tensed, and he turned around slowly, conceding his defeat.

As Haine brought the ninja over to where the three Thirteen members were, she looked down at the ground to see her employer and several children walking along with her. "Oii~ Amarante-chan... We've got the last of them in custody. Hurry up here so we can interrogate!"

"Well, let's introduce ourselves first," said Amarante. "You already know me."
She prodded Haruki with her good elbow.

"Huh, oh, I'm Yamahara Haruki. Hiya."

"Yamanashi Miyo, pleased to meet you," piped up the girl, who then curtsied.

"Tenshou Kaemon," the last muttered with his head down.

"So, why are they here," Amarante wondered. "I mean, if they came for the reason I think they did... how did they find out? I guess we'll learn."

OOC:uhm, oops is all I have to say... Haruki wasn't supposed to be told yet, so I edited it to be right.
