OOC:lol-- let's throw in some conflict, then, shall we? Maybe wake George and Dani up, if things get too loud.

Violet frowned at this comment, turning to throw Vincent a look that was half-question and half-glare. (Or perhaps "one-tenth-question and nine-tenths-glare" would have been more accurate.) "It's not like she's got a lot of options," she said slowly, trying not to allow her annoyance to show through-- she had already been rude enough for the day, especially after all of his life-saving. Still, she couldn't help but feel a little insulted. Had Vincent's words been directed toward her, she might not have minded, but to reproach Jean Louise for something like the job she'd been stuck doing was unthinkable.

"Besides, even decent guys get stupid when they get drunk," she continued. She'd seen it happen, both before and after she'd begun working at the saloon. "Sex-hungry, too. Just because you don't--"

Violet clapped a hand over her mouth, cutting herself off before she could finish the sentence. Still, what she had meant to say was obvious enough. She turned slightly pinker than she had been before and looked fixedly at the fire, wishing she could un-say what had just been said.

OOC:BWAHAHAHAHA!!! She's so mean ><

"I'm not insulting her," Vincent replied sharply, sitting up again. He wasn't sure why, but he was starting to get as irritated with her as she was getting with him. "I'm just saying, it's a shame she can't do something on Broadway. You'd think I called her a whore or something!" He paused for a moment, letting her speak.

"If they wanted to be decent guys, they wouldn't be getting drunk," he said, audibly more irritated. "Just because I don't what, eh? What don't I?"

OOC: eh, at least I posted... right?

Yeah, because decent guys never get drunk. Violet's glare grew colder as her thoughts flickered back to the various men she had known-- some of them were decent, or as decent as she'd ever known, and what right did this guy have to insult them all? Her father had been a perfectly decent guy, after all, he only drank occaisonally and he'd rarely gotten violent-- and the fact that this pathetic description, in Violet's mind, constituted "a decent man" only served to make her angrier.

"Never mind," she snapped, considering throwing his jacket at him but deciding that the gesture wasn't worth being cold. But I'm still angry. "Just forget it." Her voice, however, was still extremely confrontational and completely negated her words.

Vincent, on the other hand, had witnessed many "decent men" become destroyed by alcohol -- most notably his own father. After that, he could not forgive alcoholics. He couldn't understand what Violet was so angry about, and that only served to make him more irritated with her. She should've been agreeing with him.

"Fine," he retorted with equal intensity. "I will forget it gladly!"

"Fine!" she shouted, neither remembering nor caring that George and Dani were still asleep. Her annoyance was such that she might almost have felt a bitter sort of satisfaction in waking them.

But the intensity in his voice would not allow her to leave it at that. Violet was never one to back out of an argument. She shook off the large jacket that he'd placed over her shoulders, deciding that maybe it was worth it to be cold, and stood up. She threw it at him hard, knowing he would probably catch it before it hit him but not particularly caring, and said, "I guess you're better than everyone else, then, aren't you? Keep the damned jacket. God knows you're probably tired of being so perfect by now."

Vincent was surprised by her sudden movement, but managed to stop the jacket with his arm and catch it in his other hand as he stood up. What am I doing? briefly passed through his mind before he shoved it down and retorted.

"Maybe I am better than everyone else!" he said irritatedly, not really believing it himself but appalled that Violet would accuse him of such a thing. "It's not like the bar is that high." Not sure what else to do with it, Vincent threw his jacket back at her. "You keep it! It's warmth will go nicely with that hateful fire in your eyes. God knows you're probably tired of believing in gentlemen -- well excuse me! I'm no saint, but I'll be burning in Hell before I stop doing my best to be a gentleman. I -- never mind, you clearly don't care anyway."

Violet gaped at him for a moment, the jacket lying limp in her arms. "Maybe I am tired of believing in gentlemen!" she shouted at last, her hands clenching into fists in the jacket's heavy fabric. "The same way I'm tired of believing in Santa Clause!" She threw the jacket back at him. "Of course I don't care. Why would I want to listen to you stand there on your high horse and insult everyone who's not as damned cultured as you are, huh? Just because not everyone's lucky enough to be able to run around acting heroic doesn't give you the right to insult them all. Some of us have no choice but to work in a bar, y'ever think about that?"

OOC:*Glaring anachronism? Possibly. No idea. ><

Dani woke up first. She poked and shook her dad, saying, "Daddy, daddy... Your friends are fighting..." Her eyes were wide. She didn't like it when people fought--the rare times her parents had had been enough for her to realize that.

"Huhwha'..." George muttered, rubbing his eyes.

"Daddy... I said, your friends are fighting!"

"Oh... oh my lord," George said, sitting up. He listened to the last minute, and realized what they were fighting about.

He looked them both in the eyes, one after the other, and then said, "Both'a ya'll listen. You're both right somewhat. There's nothin' wrong with enjoyin' alcohol, or gettin' drunk every once'n a while so long as you're not a mean drunk. That's why you've got predjudices against drinkin' people, right, Vincent? That's understand'ble."
"And there's nothin' wrong with being humble, that's true. Sometimes y'can't help what you got t'live with. But you sh'd always try to respect others'n be a good person."

OOC: I have permission to use Chris' character

"Stay out of this!" Violet and Vincent yelled in unison at George. Vincent quickly turned back to Violet, throwing the jacket right back at her again. "How dare you accuse me of false heroism!" he retorted irritatedly. "Just because you've had a few scrapes with indecent men doesn't mean you can accuse me of being the same. I never even wanted your thanks for that -- if you want, I can certainly take you back there.

"And another thing, I have nothing against bars, only the customers. If you prefer that type man, then you have a disgusting fetish."

Arkus had left the room adjacent to the former prison and was already moving back to the upper levels. The consecutive booms got softer as he and Shadowhand hurried up the stairs. He was going to throw the weight of this fortress on those impudent fools. His gang was vast, and should even 200 of his men here fall, he had plenty more to call upon. Upon reaching the upper floors, he sounded full alert, summoning 100 of his bandits. He had but one simple command:

"Bring them to me...Alive!" he hissed. They were making a mockery of him. He would play with them before he killed them.

* * *

While surprised at the strange attackers, Arkus' men barely hesistated. Less than a second after Drooler and Eagle moved toward the six bandits, all of the bandits opened fire: the three out of the door attacked drooler, firing three shots each at the mechanical freak, and the ones halfway out of the cellar took very careful aim before firing at Eagle.

"Yeah?" said Violet, throwing it back at him. "Pray tell, Vincent, because I've been wondering for a while-- what kind of man do you prefer?"

OOC:Short and sweet.

"I'll have you know," he said, throwing the jacket right back again, "I -- wait, what?" Vincent suddenly stopped, realizing that she hadn't responded at all as he expected. He blinked rapidly at her for a few seconds, mouthing her words before realizing what she was accusing him of. "HAH!" he shouted at last. "Is that what this is all about? You think I'm gay! Well I'll have you know that just because I try to treat ladies nicely doesn't mean I'm not attracted to them." He paused, weighing her accusations against how he planned to counter. Yes, it was definately called for. "I just haven't found anyone attractive enough yet." He paused for another moment in thought. "On the other hand, why would you accuse me of such a thing. Could it be that you've fallen for me and are just trying to cover it up?" Vincent folded his arms and nodded, as though he had suddenly uncovered a secret. He wasn't sure how much of it he actually meant, but after what she said, he wasn't about to back down.

"Attractive enough?" Violet snorted, throwing the jacket nearly as soon as it touched her hands. "Yeah, guys don't tend to be terribly pretty. Sorry to disappoint you."

She glared at him as he continued-- but her anger quickly turned to an embarrassed confusion. "I-- what?" she cried, echoing his earlier words of disbelief. "You think I-- what?" She gaped for a moment, her mind entirely blank. The fact that she had earlier been contemplating how sad it was for such a decent guy to be gay hardly helped matters-- But I am not falling for him. Absolutely not. "Listen, you," she managed to shout angrily, though it was not anger that was making her face flush. "Keep your conceited delusions to yourself, will you?"

OOC:lol-- she has no idea how to respond to that. XD What a lame comeback, no?

Heheh-- poor Violet...

OOC: XD Poor *both* of them

"Delusions?" He mocked, almost sarcastically, tossing the coat back yet again. "Right. You're the one who's blushing." He paused for a moment, sitting back down for the time being. Now that she wasn't yelling at him, he was a bit more relaxed himself. "Anyway, whether it makes you happy or whatever, I am not gay."

Enraged at his 'blushing' comment-- probably because it was so true-- Violet strode right up to him, closing the short distance that remained between them. She shoved the jacket into his hands, not giving him a chance to refuse it, and used her newly-emptied right hand to slap him smartly across the face.

"That's nice to know," she replied sarcastically. "That would explain why you reacted the way you did, wouldn't it? Accusations and all?"
