OOC: Haha, whoops. I did forget a time, didn't I?

"We've no real uniform, but something dark and clean, preferably. But, I will tell you that, from what I hear, the shorter your skirt and the lower-cut your blouse, the better the tips, generally. Again, we've no set uniform, but the wait staff pool tips, so I'll leave it up to your best judgment." Jay winked at the woman as he said this. "As for the glass eyeball, I haven't any on hand, unfortunately. But, stick around, my dear, and we'll see what happens -- we might say that I'm a sucker for hard-luck cases. When can you start working?"

"As for your hours, Ms. -- Mrs.? Lady? -- Rigel," Jay began as he turned to the other lady with a smile, reaching into his back pocket for a small notebook. Her secrecy was certainly intriguing, but if he was going to work for her, he thought it best not to look into it too much -- that was his policy, after all, and it had served him well so far. "Mr. Mc'aar keeps a very tight schedule, you see. I do a lot of referrals for him, so I've taken to getting his schedule on a regular basis." While he said this, Jay thumbed meaningfully through the pages before arriving at one which had the words, "Soak reeds in Chargrian Wine for sweeter sound?" crossed out three times, followed beneath it by "Bullshit, of course."

"Yes, of course. His only opening for a while, actually, is in -- " Jay looked significantly at his wristwatch. " -- exactly thirty-two minutes. You should be able to make it easily if you leave soon." Realizing that the card hadn't actually had an address on the front, he hoped she would understand the significance, and not ask stupid questions. He might not be able to work for her if she did. Still, her wits seemed quick enough to not disappoint him.

Jenny smiled brightly. "Well, as soon as I get me a uniform! Which shouldn't be long, really... I can just run to my apartment and be back in, oh... 45 minutes."

OOC:Despite her current appearance, she does have normal clothes... xD

"Excellent." Marael fingered the card in her pocket, looking thoughtful for a moment, then stood. "I appreciate your help," she said, her voice taking on its usual businesslike tones. "I shall be on my way, then."

She hadn't yet read what he'd written on the back of the card, but she had a feeling that it wasn't something she wanted to risk people reading over her shoulder. After a quick nod to Jennifer, she slid out of her seat and back around to the front of the bar, leaving through the front door.

One level up, she read, a frown creasing her forehead. Sector IV, Mersenne Park. She cocked her head to one side, reading over it again. One level up from the address on the front? Perhaps. But if she wasn't looking for Jarvis Mc'aar, who was she looking for? She almost turned around to find Jay again, planning on asking for more specific directions-- and then she thought for another moment and looked back down at the card.

He'd written it telling her he was giving her a phone number; obviously this was not something he wanted to trumpet to the general public. That was fine. She was a politician; she understood secrecy.

One level up from here, then?

Perhaps.

Her gaze turned upward as she eyed the only-slightly-less-seedy area of Coruscant one level up from the ground. That sounds about right, she thought. And, trusting that things would work out if she followed instructions-- that's all she was ever doing, it seemed, following instructions-- she hailed a hovercab*.

OOC:Edited.

*Yes, I made that up. So sue me. XP

OOC: Hrmm... Actually, the plan was for him to call a pay-phone there at the specified time.... Were you thinking I meant the second floor of the building? That can work just as well, if you let me know, so you don't have to edit your post.

"Sounds like a plan!" Jay said, winking at Jenny in that mischievous way that was so common for him. "That's convenient, actually, as dear Eliza called in sick, and her shift will start about then. I suppose I shall see you soon, then, Jen!" Turning to the other lady, he responded, "No problem at all. I live to serve. Now, if you'll excuse me...."

With a bow, Jayhopped the other side of the bar back into the "Truth" section. As he began to talk with some customers who just entered, he began to feel that the day was going quite well. One job finished, an interesting new employee, and an even more interesting employer. The run-in with the Jedi was just icing.

"Aye, cap'n," Jenny said playfully, getting up and walking out of the door. As soon as she was out, though, she ran as fast as possible. 'No way am I losing this job so fast,' she thought. Back at her very, very modest apartment, she changed into a low-cut black dress and flats, and dashed out the door again. However, she had to remember that she could not rush in this outfit--and from there kept to normal speeds.

OOC:Sorry for the entirely OOC post. Feel free to delete it. I don't have a clue how Coruscant is organized... if the card has no address, how's she supposed to know what she's supposed to be one level up from? I'm probably missing something totally obvious... ><

OOC: No problem; I'll clean it and this up after your next post. I always thought that Coruscant, being almost entirely city, was somehow organized in "levels," where lower levels are closer to the surface and higher are closer to the atmosphere. Even if there's a solid ground somewhere, it could still be just one of a thousand or so levels. Mersenne Park is just some imagined location that I made up, pretending it to be somewhere generally straight up from the bar, but on the next higher level

OOC:Ehm... Well, you see... Okay, so I actually have no excuse for not posting. I guess I sort of forgot it was my turn, only that's not entirely true either. More like, I kind of forgot this roleplay existed. Heheh. Oops. Feel free to yell at me for being bad. ><

As for the note thing-- heh, I've almost forgotten what it said, even-- thanks for clearing that up. I never would've figured that out. XD

Marael paid the driver-- rates never seemed to stop going up, it seemed-- and stepped out of the cab. It had been a relatively short ride; still, she couldn't help feeling entirely lost. At least on the planet's surface she knew precisely how little she knew. Here, she didn't even know that.

Well, it still smelled.

Mersenne Park was not, it seemed, a particularly small area. She hadn't expected it to be. Still, she'd hoped. Because now she had no idea what to do or where to go.

In the spirit of following instructions blindly (first Orion, and now this Jay fellow) she found a bench (dirty and sort of tucked into a smelly-ish corner) and sat down to wait.

OOC:Also feel free to yell at me for the above piece of crap that I am attempting to pass off as a post. ><

Men in the restaurant were looking at Jenny like she hadn't been looked at in a long while. She didn't know whether to be pleased or disturbed, as the crowd was... mixed.

The barkeeper, looking up, said, "You're the new hire, right?"

Jenny nodded.

"Well, one busgirl covers the Truth side, and the other covers the Lies side... But you know, you waitress today. Here's a tray for table 4."

She picked the tray, heavy with beer, up gamely, but looked quite confused as to where to go. "The far right corner."

Jenny said thanks appreciatively, then delivered the drinks.

The time passed without (much) incident, and as the day went on, Jenny learned where things were--and so, it actually became easier.

OOC:Good enough for now, I guess ^_^;;

OOC: *yell* *yell* *yell*

Jay caught his bartender's eye after the first bit of advice and read "Why do you do this to me?" in the expression. The musician simply smiled in response, giving Garik a thumbs-up before returning to his clients. He sat down with the band and played a romantic, nostalgic sort of tune which he immediately dedicated to his new waitress to much applause. That ought to boost her tips for a bit, he mused as he began the next song. When at last he set down his instrument, he'd played two more songs, and estimated that the mysterious young lady had about eighteen minutes before her meeting.

After excusing himself to his office and offering many promises of his return, he fell into the large, comfortable chair behind his desk. He dug through the bottom drawer of this desk for a bit before coming up with a comlink that he promptly pocketed. After grabbing a jacket from his coat rack -- he unconsciously picked one that was very different from the one he wore earlier -- Jay headed out of back entrance and made his way up a level.

Now with about two minutes left, he was sitting a little coffee shop, looking out through the window at a young lady who was wrapped up in a heavy jacket, admiring her curves. Taking a sip of his coffee, he checked his watch -- less than a minute. He now turned his attention to another young lady that was sitting on a decidedly dreary bench in Mersenne Park. Jay should liked to have admired her as well, but she clearly didn't want any attention, from her choice of attire. It was at that moment when a little boy approached this young lady, and informed her that a Mr. Mc'aar would like to speak to her, and pointed her towards a nearby pay phone.

Jay had found the boy on the streets, and offered him two hundred credits to give the lady that message, with another three hundred if he left immediately without answering any questions except to repeat what he'd already said. To keep the boy from trying to find him, Jay had hidden the three and told the boy where to find it. Under this system, Jay had anonymously dealt successfully with many of his clients, and only once had his messenger run off with the first two hundred. He was pleased to see that this one would not increase that count. Jay then waited patiently for the client to make it to the phone, before he pulled out his comlink and dialed the number.

OOC: *again, I'm not really sure how these work. I'm pretending they're a lot like cell phones. I'm also pretending their are public pay-comlinks, like payphones...

@Christine: you can control the boy however you'd like, of course. I realized after the fact that this doesn't give you a lot to work with, but I'm sure you'll manage ;)

Marael was not surprised that this was how things were going to go down-- three years of working with Orion had made her used to dealing with these matters over the phone. Still, she had no desire to be so completely in the dark, so she very gently grabbed the child's wrist as he turned to leave, not hard enough to physically restrain him, but enough to get his attention. "A hundred credits if you can tell me where this Mr. Mca'ar is," she said, letting go of the boy's wrist now that she'd said what she wanted to say.

The boy squinted up at her, then pointed again toward the pay phone and turned to leave.

"Two hundred credits," she offered quietly; the boy was only a few feet away, and could certainly hear her, but he continued walking as though he hadn't.

"Five hundred--" She stopped. He was out of earshot now, unless she wanted to raise her voice, and it wasn't worth calling attention to herself over. She might have run after him, but even in a seedy place like this she thought people might notice someone chasing down a small child.

Well, nevermind. If she had to run into this blind, well, it wasn't new to her. She made her way over to the pay phone and took a few surreptitious glances around her to note anywhere that this Mca'ar person could be watching her from... in her experience, a phone call like this was accompanied by some sort of one-way mirror-- she was sure Mr. Mca'ar was near enough to see her, or on the other end of a remote video camera. There was a disgusting-looking public restroom nearby, as well as a small dingy coffee shop and what appeared to be a thrift store of some sort. Tucking these bits of information into the back of her mind, she turnedd her attention to the ringing phone, reached out, and picked up the receiver.

Jay was pleased to see that the roleplay had finally st---

Jay was pleased to see that greed was still universal. It wouldn't really be tragic if the boy had turned on him, he supposed, but it is always nice when things go the way you want them to. It was, of course, Jay's favorite way of handling these sort of "delicate" situations.

"I understand you need some... particularly troublesome 'things' taken care of," Jay said through the communicator, only barely bothering to disguise his voice. He liked to think that the poor quality of a public phone was better cover than any masking he could do on his own.

"You have five minutes to explain, and maybe more if I'm interested."

Marael waited quietly for a moment before a wry smile quirked her lips. "I'm afraid I may have reached... entirely the wrong sort of man, Mr. Mca'ar," she said quietly, adjusting her hat as she did so. "Perhaps you could tell me. Have I? If so, I apologize for wasting your apparently precious time."

Although she'd spent a long time looking for a hired killer that met her standards, Marael was not bluffing. She'd gone through routines similar to this one several times; she'd found that one of the most important things was that whoever she hired understood who, exactly, controlled the situation. It was her money-- well, not technically speaking, perhaps, but she'd gone through the trouble of getting it and she controlled where it went-- and she didn't want her hired help to come with any sort of massive ego that might make things difficult. She'd heard worse opening lines, yes, but this man certainly did sound arrogant. And stupid, if he thought she was revealing any important information over a public comlink to someone she couldn't see who might, for all she knew, be an authority. Traps and setups like these were not unheard-of, and though she may have been being paranoid, she didn't feel that it was worth the risk.

"You see, the kind of money I'm willing to offer ought to buy me all the qualities I'm looking for," she continued, deliberately taking her time with her words. "Impatience is not one of them."

OOC:Sorry for the delay... finals suck.

Jay smiled in spite of himself -- this no-nonsense sort was the only type he would accept jobs from anymore, if they didn't come on a recommendation. Had she come on recommendation, he probably would not have gone out of his way with such a complicated way to maintain anonymity -- as it was, however, he didn't care to meet in person with someone he knew he wouldn't be able to work with.

"Very well, you seem like someone who knows what they want. Forgive me if I seemed rude -- I will not work for anyone without such firm understanding as yours. He was right to recommend you to me." Jay had worked with enough paranoid-types to understand the desire to leave out any incriminating words or names over public systems. He chose the coffee shop that he sat in because it was crowded enough that a low conversation would not be overheard, and the clientele such that it would be easy to spot someone listening in on conversation. "I have no doubt that you noticed the coffee shop. It is... straight in front of you, now. My base fee is ten million, with more depending on the situation. If you are prepared then I would love to share a coffee with you. I will hang up now -- this is all in your hands, of course."

OOC: Amelia... if there's something I can do to make things interesting for you, let me know. If you want to start something in the bar, then i can try to respond with random people there. As it is, I can't do much at the bar ^^;;

OOC:I have an idea... xD You'll probably see where I'm going, hopefully it'll be ok.

This job was tougher than Jenny had expected. At least ten people were calling for her at the same time, at least twenty impeded her way from place to place, and a good handful among the lot (on the Lies side, of course) made a pass at her rear whenever she passed by. Going through this minefield of humanity required sereneness, focus, and agility.

She wondered how one was to do this job if one was not a Jedi.

Luckily, she was, so this was all a breeze to her. Even when someone, fed up with waiting for a refill, threw a heavy mug at her, she knew what to do.

Her hand darted up, and she caught it easily. The thought occurred to her during that split-second: Shit, I can't do that... they'll know!
And so, she dropped it to the floor. To any normal observer, it would seem that the mug had just flown past her and broken on the floor.

She didn't turn around to find the troublemaker; instead, she continued on to the kitchen with the tray of empty cups. She came out with a rag to hold the sharp pieces in, and began to pick them up.
