Age: 2875 Race: Keitosian Description: Standing at 6 feet tall, Arkus has shoulder-length blonde hair that he ties back to keep out of his face. He has striking blue eyes, and that in combination with the smile he always wears has been said to be very charming. He wears a felt fedora with a jet black feather in one side. He often wears a dark brown cloak that falls just around his combat boots, which he can simply throw over his shoulders should a battle begin. Under his cloak he wears a tannish/yellow dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up past his elbows, and a dark brown vest on top of that. He also wears light brown slacks, and has 8-shot revolvers on each upper leg, his hips, on his sides in slightly hidden holsters (ever see the thing james bond wears to hold his gun? Right under his coat? two of those things). He has a short sword hanging horizontally from the back of his belt, and on his left wrist is the only advanced technology he uses: a portable shield generator that creates a light blue energy ball that no laser can pierce. Personality: Always jovial or light, his accent (Australian, don’t ask why) and his demeanor can take anyone off their guard. His cocky smile seems to be permanently etched on his face, and he treats everyone as his close associates, even if he doesn't know who they are. This does not mean he trusts all people, simply that he doesn't believe in formalities. Rather than simply torture someone for information, he always tries to charm it out of them first. While he would prefer to spend time torturing his prisoner, he often doesn’t have the necessary time, and unfortunately (in his mind) has to simply convince them he is their friend. He is quite successful at doing this. History: Ages ago, long before the memories of any Xarian alive today, there was another species of mythical creatures dwelling on Xaria. Wyverns, they were called, and great dragons they were. The greatest among them would glow in the darkest night, a bright metallic hue, contrasting to his onyx scales. Long before the reign of Xar I, the greatest of the wyverns, Melseme, the beast was called, sought Zenjirou’s permission to explore several other planets in the surrounding galaxy. Zenjirou gave his consent, but warned his friend of a living darkness gathering around several planets in the system. He cautioned Melseme against approaching these planets. Melseme heard the words, but hardly listened. Unlike many of his creature kin, Melseme was impulsive, even considered foolish by the great beasts. So Melseme left, along with the other two strongest wyverns of Xaria, and they explored the galaxy. They collected a great deal of information, which they would share with the others upon their return. However, before they did that, Melseme wished to explore the Black Zone, as it was to be known to the great beings. The dragon-esque monsters soared through the darkness, repelling it’s gloom with their great luster and purity. The darkness nearly vanished into oblivion, and the wyverns thought their mission successful. None of them noticed at the time, however, the trails of blackness that followed them and sank beneath their impenetrable armor of their bright scales. When they returned to their world, they told Zenjirou the darkness was no more. Publicly, Zenjirou rejoiced at their success, but privately he feared it was not so. His infinite wisdom had taught him that such a simple victory could not have come without a price. For now, he would celebrate, but he would always keep watch for that evil to return. Over time, the wyverns began to experience emotions and compulsions they’d never felt before – greed, jealousy, and anger. Melseme, illogically, he knew, felt betrayed by his friend and believed that Zenjirou was selfishly hoarding power for himself. Hundreds of years would pass during this time, and while Zenjirou finally began to relax, Melseme’s anger grew each passing year. Finally, less than a thousand years before the first bipedal creature was a part of the planet’s system, Melseme mustered his wyverns and led an attack against Zenjirou. Though the divine creatures had seen and learned of war, none had ever had to experience it in this way. A fierce battle raged between them all – and though the wyverns stood alone, the darkness that infected their leaders had since spread to the entire species and empowered them beyond their previous limits. Many creatures on each side were killed, including several powerful dragons. Finally, at long last, the good creatures had cornered the wyverns, now fewer than ever before. Zenjirou, betrayed and confused, refused to kill the creature he had once known as his friend. Instead, the good divines sealed away their great powers, casting away their light and strength they had known, banishing them from their world for eternity. Weakened and humiliated, Melseme swore revenge upon his former friend, and promised that he would kill him one day. The wyverns soared to a beautiful planet that had been in the Black Zone, nesting in the mountains and settling down to sleep and think. Over time, Melseme developed new strength to replace the old, and instead shimmered with blackness instead of the bright light that was once his. A few thousand years passed, and the wyverns flourished on this planet, while the Xarian race came to be. There was a son to the royal family, Keitos by name, who was incredibly intelligent and often spent time with the great dragons meditating. He was expected to become a fine king when it came his turn. One day, Keitos asked the great dragon Zenjirou what caused the scars in the land that were dug all over the planet, now called Xaria. Zenjirou reluctantly told the tale of Melseme, and darkness of war. Keitos did not comprehend this evil of war, and wanted to know more about Melseme’s fate. Over a hundred years later, Keitos set out to find the missing wyvern lord, and whether he was inspired by the dark taint that still pooled in small corners of the planet or his massive amount of curiosity was unknown. But after a long time spent searching, he eventually discovered the planet that the wyverns had crashed on years ago. Making his way up into the mountains, Keitos didn’t know what happened until it was too late. The great wyvern himself had sensed the arrival of a sentient being to his domain, and promptly seized Keitos in his claws. WHAT ARE YOU? Boomed Melseme terrible voice inside Keitos’ head. Feeling real fear for the first time in his life, Keitos froze, jaw slack. Melseme began telepathically digging for the information he wanted, eventually discovering the evolution of Xarians and their reverence for the great dragons. Spitting in disgust at the thought of lesser creatures worshipping his enemy, Melseme then had a brilliant, albeit evil idea. He poured forth his black essence and made Keitos an evil being. The brilliant and wise leader had been turned against the Xarians, and now he would bring others before Melseme to serve him as well. Overtime, nearly a third of the current Xarian population had been converted and moved to the newly named planet Keitosia. Enemies of the Xarians now, the evil race believed themselves free of the Xarians lies, and no longer believed themselves to even be of the same species. Much like the wyverns discovered new powers through evil, the once benevolent magics of Xaria were cast aside in favor of the rapidly developing Shi Kui, a violent and offensive magical form. When the dragons finally discovered the truth, they refused to put their people to war. Instead, they focused together their might and drove all the evil from their world. From that moment forth, as long as the dragons were at their full power, no evil could ever enter Xaria again. This, of course, failed after the dragons were bound to statues, but the Keitosians had not noticed. As years passed, Keitos grew sick of simply being Melseme’s pawn. Gathering the most powerful Keitosians together, they cast a great magic spell that bound all of Melseme’s powers to an onyx statue in his likeness. Now the master was the servant, and he was furious. No longer able to act against the will of his masters, Melseme and the other wyverns were simply the tools of the Keitosians. As time passed, Melseme resented less and less his new stature, as he came to realize that he still had great influential power. Passed down as an heirloom for generations to come, Melseme soon became bored with his life and returned to meditative slumber…that is, until he reached the hands of Arkus Rufo, the royal son thousands of years later. Springing to life, Melseme sensed a power in Arkus that could be tapped, to the detriment of the galaxy. Arkus took Melseme and spent many years a bounty hunter, with his evil friend always close at hand. Powers: Like most Keitosians, Arkus’ magics are offensive in nature. His main ability is to generate bolts of lightning from his body. When his charms fail to get him what he wants, he turns to these to “convince” his victims to assist him. Also among his array of tricks is the ability to create an area of complete darkness and silence, alter his form, greater strength than most humans, and eventually, Shi Kui Mastery will allow him to fly. And, like all of his race, he is telepathic, and thanks to Melseme, can sometimes dig information out of someone's mind...but it is very difficult given Melseme's limited powers. Melseme can forcefully invade minds on his own, but not only is he contrary to telling Arkus what he needs to know, he also has a tendency to kill the victim as he pleases. As such, Arkus rarely relies on Melseme to enter minds. OOC:It still isn’t that great, I know. I got tired of writing the history little more than halfway through (you can tell, I’m sure…), but I adjusted his powers specifically to give the empire the edge in confrontations, and to adapt to the new Keitosian history. Enjoy. |
