OOC:Here goes nothing! Rather quickly written; I apologize in advance for any typos or grammatical errors.

Name: Esmeralda Guinevine

Age: 22 yrs

Occupation: Bounty hunter working with the crew of the Angel Mark II (although she makes it clear that she can leave at any time she wants, she hasn't yet); part-time circus performer

Description:

Extremely easygoing, Esmeralda is anything but a polished young lady, despite her habit of wearing gloves all the time. Her clothing—both costumes and street clothing—is rather revealing; she knows the effect this has on men, and takes full advantage of it. Women tend to think little of her, but that doesn’t bother her in the slightest. Her devil-may-care attitude manifests itself in her grammar, as well, which is atrocious (mostly due to lack of effort, since she’s never bothered learning or correcting herself). It’s obvious that she’s never been near high society; she’s brash in both speech and action, and tends to joke about subjects that others might find touchy; in fact, the more serious the situation, the easier she finds it to laugh at. Her lighthearted lies and teasing are meant in the best way possible, and although she’s often sarcastic, it’s rarely meant to hurt. She doesn’t understand people who take things too personally.

Because of these things, Esmeralda is constantly being underestimated. She’s really very cunning and much smarter than she’s given credit for. Though she doesn’t do well with directions, her memory is otherwise near flawless, and gives her the ability to remember conversations, documents, and situations with crystal clarity. And although you’d never know it by looking at her, Esmeralda is an extraordinarily skilled and dangerous woman, capable of being cold, ruthless, and downright cruel, and doing it all with a smile on her face.

Physically, Esmeralda is beautiful in a kick-ass, rough-and-tumble kind of way. She has none of that delicate prettiness that so many of her fellow performers possess, but she’s all right with that, and has adjusted to the “bad-girl” image that her dress style and behavior have given her. Her skin is medium-dark, and her eyes are a dark emerald green. She wears her black hair in two looped braids. Circus training has given her strength and flexibility, which lend themselves well to her job as a bounty hunter. Her specialty is knife-throwing, and she often uses these projectiles when bounty hunting as well. She is an extremely skilled hand-to-hand fighter, but she prefers not to engage her targets in any kind of confrontation; she excels at killing from a distance or taking a target down in one blow-- her style (unlike her appearance) is clean, quiet, and frighteningly efficient.

History:

Orphaned at a young age, Esmeralda was entirely nameless when she joined a traveling Russian circus at the age of six, hoping to be decently fed and not caring that her jobs included the messier aspects of show business that nobody else wanted to deal with—cleaning up after the elephants, for example. She always admired the grace and beauty of the performers, but resigned herself to staying behind the scenes; it kept her housed and fed, after all, and she supposed she shouldn’t ask for more than that.

Still, this resignation didn’t stop her from jumping at the chance to learn how to perform. The ringleader had taken a particular interest in her from the time she joined the troupe, and adopted her in all ways but legally. He called her Zelenka ("little green one"-- “for your eyes,” he said), watched out for her, and allowed her to use his last name, Volkov, as her own, after she confessed to him her dejection at having none. By age nine, Zelie Volkova was the happiest child in the world. She had a family, of sorts, she had a name, and she was the youngest performer in the troupe. No longer was she the little waif who cleaned up after the stars were gone; now the stars accepted her as one of their own, doting on her, constantly telling her how cute she was and what a wonderful performance she’d made. She flourished in the limelight; she loved being in front of the crowd, holding every ounce of their attention, and she owed it all to the ringleader.

So when he told her there was someone after his life, she lost no time in finding and doing away with that someone. It was easy; her circus training had given her the tools she needed, like strength and stealth and agility. In addition, there was the fact that nobody would watch out for a little nine-year-old; she was underestimated, and there lay—and would continue to lie—her greatest strength.

Over the years, her skills as both a performer and an assassin grew. She was vaguely aware that there was something more sinister going on, something she didn’t know about and didn’t care to know about, although the ringleader made her privy to a good portion of information. The circus was, it turned out, a cover for a syndicate that dealt in drugs, kidnappings, and other criminal acts. She could be trusted with this information, he believed, because she adored him. Besides, she made a good personal bodyguard, inconspicuous and effective. Despite her misgivings, she asked no questions. It was easier just to follow orders, doing away with all the guilt and passing it on to someone else. It made no difference to her whether she was throwing knives at a circus wheel or a live victim.

And then one day, she stopped.

She was eighteen. She left one evening to take care of a target and she didn’t return that night, or the day after, or the day after that. The ringleader quickly grew nervous; Zelie knew enough that she might be dangerous in the hands of his enemies. He had few qualms in sending more of his trusted scouts and assassins out to find her and bring her back if she was injured—or, if she had betrayed him, to kill her.

The scouts never found her. The assassins’ bodies were left in a ditch for the ringleader to find, along with a farewell note telling him that she was cutting out now. If he wished to argue with this decision, he was informed, he was free to do so, but it might lead to certain information falling into the hands of the wrong people.

There was nothing telling him what had caused the sudden change of heart.

Zelie took on a new name-- in the end, she could not bring herself to choose one too far removed from her first, though she knew this could potentially be dangerous-- and joined a real circus, trying out bounty hunting on the side. When she realized how lucrative it was, she lost no time in making it her chief form of income.

Miscellaneous: Esmeralda has a soft spot for children. She’s a little childlike herself, at times, and keeps a little stuffed bunny rabbit with long ragged ears in her possession at all times, either with her other belongings or on her person. Childlike or not, however, she can keep a secret—all her traveling companions know about her is that she worked for the circus before she was a bounty hunter.

OOC:Edited to explain why she doesn't like Russians... :D

She's awesome XD And, of course, even with rushing she's free of grammatical errors so far as I can tell.

I look forward to this. We three should make an "interesting" team XD;

Approved!
