OOC: I think I'm going to split this into two posts for convinience. Brace yourself, Jidat's pretty wierd XD;

Name: Liang Jidat
Age: appears about 15
Occupation: Captain, Gotei 13 (8th squad)
Alliance: Nanase, his subordinates, Seireitei

Personality: Jidat is kind, caring, and selfless to a fault. He is well-liked among the inhabitants of Seireitei because of his down-to-earth nature and genuine concern for everyone’s well-being. He has been even known to look out for people who have insulted him in the past, perhaps from the hope that they will see the err of their ways. In a similar vein, you could say that Jidat is extremely optimistic. Even until the last second, Jidat will search for the “best” way to solve a conflict. Though he is quite skilled in combat, and his style is such that most opponents have a difficult time countering or reading it, he dislikes fighting. Though he will fight if necessary, he is known to rarely, if ever, draw his sword – even, sometimes, when defending himself – unless he is absolutely committed to taking someone’s life.

Though hopelessly bad with names, Jidat tries his best to remember everyone, and has a habit of giving out nicknames that are more memorable than the person’s real name. Also, he tends to encourage people – especially ranked officers in his squad – to disregard honorifics when addressing him. Though he wears his title well and executes his duties with precision, his humility does not accept all the politeness that others tend to use with him because of his rank. His most interesting and widely-known quirk, however, is his style of speech. For some reason, though he is definitely a man, he speaks like a girl, and is very defensive about that fact. Some (never below lieutenant rank, of course) have even offered to teach him to speak more “manly,” but he always refuses. Though a few people poke fun at him for it, there are even less that continue to do so if he ever overhears them. Besides speaking like a girl, his voice is not particularly deep. Though someone looking at him directly as he spoke would be able to tell the he was a man, someone who just happened to hear him as they walked by might think twice.

Physical Description: Though nevertheless unusual and, to some, disturbing, Jidat’s appearance is rather fitting, considering his “unique” style of speech. Jidat is exceptionally short (for a man), and his frame is quite small. He is not especially muscular (though he is surprisingly strong) and his fingers are nimble and narrow. To add to this series of ludicrous coincidences, he has grown his hair out slightly past shoulder length, and when he doesn’t know what to do with it he often grabs a clean chopstick and spins it up neatly (though also, as has been pointed out to him on several occasion, extremely femininely) into a small bun. Luckily, (for anyone who makes fun of him, that is; he obviously isn’t embarrassed in the least) someone else usually gets to his hair before he does.

Other than this, Jidat looks relatively “normal.” His captain’s cloak is lined with red, but his uniform is otherwise standard. Like most everyone else, he keeps his Zanpakutou at his waist when carrying it around.

History: In life, Jidat was the youngest monk of a special temple in the hills of China. Though he honed his mind and trained his body to be able withstand pain better than most of the other monks, his actual fighting skills simply didn’t match up. Because of this, he was constantly being made fun of. Despite the teasing, or perhaps because of it, he continued to work hard to improve himself. At the same time, he withdrew from combat and sparring practice, opting to train by himself where none could see him and insult him. Finding they could not pick on him for his combat skills, the other students began to poke fun at his size. Frustrated, Jidat searched for an opportunity to prove his worth – both to the others, and to himself.

Then, one day, he found his chance. The temple received word of a small group of warriors that had been sweeping through the area on their way to some unknown destination. As they moved, they mercilessly killed anyone and everyone in their path. These warriors used an unknown style, but were clearly very skilled – they moved in small groups of two or three, and even in those small groups were able to take down an entire school in just a few hours, masters and teachers included. Apparently, the next target of one such group was Jidat’s temple.

When they arrived, only a day after the initial warning was received, they did so quite loudly. They apparently wanted everyone to know they were there and weren’t interested in making a surprise attack. They shouted from the center of the training area for everyone to come at them, threatening to come themselves if nobody responded. So, that’s what happened. One by one, the monks of the temple began to fall. The warriors seemed invincible – they moved with speed that was unreal, and by some unknown technique were often able to simply ignore even the sharpest blade. It was when things seemed most hopeless that Jidat came out of his hiding spot and struck.

With his size, he was able to sneak in close and catch one by surprise – the opponent received a quick, accurate stab to the stomach, then a slice across the throat. The invader didn’t even see his attacker until after the first attack, and by then it was too late. Everyone was surprised – the monks of the temple were probably even more surprised than the invaders. The battle was far from over, however. Now that the remaining opponent was aware of Jidat, things were much harder. Though Jidat was faster, he had to move more to get into the right position, and thus began to tire much sooner than his opponent. Furthermore, he had to put extra force and cunning into his attacks if he wanted to do any damage. However, thanks to the hidden training he put himself through, he held his ground and managed to get in a few good slashes and blows, causing the invader to slow down as well.

In the end, however, it wasn’t enough. Jidat hesitated at the wrong moment, and ended up skewered by his opponent’s blade. Already exhausted from the fight, Jidat faded into unconsciousness quickly and died, unable to hear his brothers’ angry outcries over his death. Feeling that he’d only embarrassed himself once again, he didn’t linger nearby, and was soul-buried the next day, having wandered nearly a mile away, into the middle of the mountains.

When he arrived in Soul Society, he found himself in a strange place where nobody spoke in a familiar language. He was able to learn from the signs that he was in the 78th district of some place in the East, but other than that he knew nothing. Swallowing his myriad emotions, he sat down by a river he discovered and watched the fish.

He remained there for several days when he was discovered by a little girl, not much older than he. She apparently knew a little Chinese, besides being fluent in the language of the land – she called it Japanese. She introduced herself as Nanase, and explained that she, too, was quite alone and in an unfamiliar land, but urged Jidat to keep optimistic and look towards the future – “Things will always get better,” she said with a hint of mystery in her voice, as though that phrase were some magical incantation.

So began a long-lasting friendship. Nanase’s enthusiasm and optimism rubbed off on Jidat as she taught him to speak Japanese and to have faith in himself (for he was quite emo at this point). After he explained to her the story of his life, she suggested that he let his hair grow out, as a symbol of his rebelling against the other monks and their insults. Though he was weary of this at first, he gave in eventually and began to like it. In return for her Japanese and optimism, Jidat taught Nanase Chinese and everything he knew about Wushu. They were a great team, catching fish, stealing water and candy, and defending themselves from the vicious adults, all by themselves. They were happy for a time, but all the while they were enticed by the peacefulness of the great city in the center of Rukongai – Seireitei, the Court of Pure Souls.

Finally, tired of eating the same old junk from the slums and getting into petty fights to defend their sleeping places and their lives, the two took the entrance exam to the Shinigami Academy and passed after only two tries. The two both entered the special advanced classes, with Jidat excelling in combat and Nanase excelling in the use of Demon Arts. Despite being looked down upon because they came from 78th district, they worked hard and learned quickly. Because the two were each strong in opposite subjects, they studied together and tutored each other, thus soaring to the top of their class in all areas and advancing quickly.

Upon first entering the Gotei 13, they were assigned to 11th squad, due to their unmatched teamwork and fighting abilities. They proved themselves readily, slowly working their way up to seated officer ranking, all the while gaining skill and experience. They weren’t destined to stay in combat-specialist 11th squad for long, however.

With Jidat’s newly discovered espionage and disguise talents (due to his “multi-purpose appearance,” as noted by the 8th squad lieutenant of the time), coupled with Nanase’s interrogation skills (thanks to her newly discovered Shikai), the two were perfect for the infiltration, sabotage, and assassination squad – 8th division. When they were transferred, they were immediately ranked as 9th and 10th seated officers, with Nanase being one seat higher because of her excellence in interrogation. Though they continued to crawl up the ranks, the order soon changed.

During the pair’s private training, Jidat mastered his Shikai and learned materialization in one fell swoop. It was hardly a year before Bankai followed – an impressive feat, though he kept it as quiet as possible. It was through the gaining of this new Bankai that he was able to finally realize a technique he’d been struggling to develop for a long time. This is a technique he is now well-known for – Raipo, or Lightning Step. He admits being poor at divining names, but feels it is good enough. This technique is revered to be the only movement technique faster than Flash Step, and its limits and best combinations are known only by Jidat and Nanase, who helped him increase the effectiveness of the technique.

Ten years later, when the top officers of 8th squad – including the captain – were killed in action, there was little question as to who the replacements should be.

(As a note, it has been many, many years since this happened.)

Zankpakutou: Hikaryuumaru, “Flying Dragon of Fire”
Jidat’s Zanpakutou is different from most in that its unreleased form is not a katana – it is a Chinese straight sword. Its sheathe is simple, but elegant; it is of a light wood, accented with simple metal plating at both ends, and also again several inches down from the top, so that a cord may be tied between the two for securing to his belt. The sword’s hilt is similarly simple, with red tassels attached to the base (“For luck!”). The blade itself is engraved faintly near the hilt: A simple dragon (on either side), and the characters for “Speed” and “Wisdom” (one per side).

Shikai:Tengoku (wo) kire, Hikaryuumaru!” – “Cut the heavens, Flying Dragon of Fire!”
Jidat usually tosses the sword up in the air as he calls out the incantation. Then, the entire sword is swallowed by a small dragon that appears out of nowhere. As Jidat grabs this dragon, it closes its mouth and a glowing, blue blade, made of pure energy and infused with Jidat’s own reiatsu, appears instantly. This blade is the same length as the original blade, but instantly disintegrates anything it touches, unless that thing is reinforced by a good amount of reiatsu. Even a Zanpakutou, if its user hasn’t poured enough reiatsu in it, cannot stand up to its power. Also, because this blade is not made of metal, Jidat can increase and decrease its length at will. Though the speed at which it changes length is not as dramatic as Ichimaru’s Shikai, it is certainly fast enough to cut an opponent who didn’t dodge enough. If Hikaryuumaru happens to get knocked away from Jidat’s grasp, the blade will extinguish, but the dragon will be able to fly back to him if he calls it.

Bankai: Hikaryuumaru Taisei – Flying Dragon of Fire Great Sage
For Bankai, Hikaryuumaru extinguishes the blade in its mouth and grows to be roughly twice an average human in size. He can fire small blasts of energy/reiatsu from his mouth, and is unexpectedly fast. Jidat’s speed also increases, and he, too, gains the ability to fire small energy/reiatsu blasts. He can also form an energy/reiatsu sword in his hand. The width of this blade can now be changed at will, in addition to its length. Though his physical strength and the power of the energy blasts is not that great, his speed is vastly increased and he fights alongside Hikaryuumaru, effectively gaining a two-on-one advantage.

Compressed Bankai: Tenpuku Hikaryuumaru Taisei – Heavenly Blessing Flying Dragon of Fire Great Sage
In this final form, Jidat actually merges with Hikaryuumaru Taisei. Hikaryuumaru’s sturdy dragon scales attach to Jidat’s body to become extremely tough, yet flexible armor. In addition, the fighting abilities that were separated into two entities have now combined. Thus, his speed is doubled again.

Other interesting tidbits: He has visited the living world on many occasions to dispatch high-level hollows as a ranked officer and even a few times when as lieutenant and a couple as captain. Of those visits, there were one or two occasions when he needed to spend an extended amount of time in a faux-body. Because his style of speech would make him stand out far too much, he was forced – very much against his will (though to the amusement of perhaps everyone in Seireitei) – to use a female faux-body. He hopes to pose as a mute, in the future, in order to avoid further embarrassment.

His higher ranking officers – including his trusty lieutenant – once played a prank on him that turned out to be unarguably the funniest (and, some would say, “cutest”) thing they ever saw. It was even worth him being angry at them and assigning them extra paperwork for weeks afterwards. Let’s just say, at one point during the prank, the words “What are you DOING with that DRESS?!” echoed loudly throughout the 8th squad office area. (No, he was not spared the makeup.)

The slightness of Jidat’s figure and muscles comes from the particular style at his temple. The idea was to gain physical strength while maximizing agility and dexterity beyond that of any other school. Thus, the other monks at this temple had a similar physique. However, he was still the smallest, stature-wise, and thus an easy target for jokes.
