I don't really like my descriptions of Nikolai... I don't think I actually talked about his character too much, so either I'll redo them eventually, or forget and just flesh it out in the RP ^^;

Name: Nikolai “God of Death” Vostrikov
Age: 26
Occupation: Co-Commander, Branch 7, Russian Mafia
Alliance: Sister Katya; Russian Mafia
Items: Revolver, concealed under his jacket; two long daggers

Physical Description: Nikolai is a handsome young man, with charm to spare. His education and refinement show in the way he handles himself. He moves with a power and authority that would make a king envious, and the grace of a practiced dancer. Though he is not exceptionally tall, he doesn’t need height to be imposing. Even without speaking, he can command a room, simply by virtue of being in it. There is an intensity about him as of a genius composer, working on his greatest work.

The “God of Death’s” brown hair is always neatly combed, though he maintains a particular love for fedoras, of which he has several. His clear, blue eyes, mirrors of his vivaciousness, are windows into his soul. If he weren’t so practiced in hiding his emotions, they would be clearly visible in, if nothing else, his eyes.

Nikolai dresses well, but modestly. Though he is rich, he was not raised to be wasteful, and thus buys clothes that are comfortable and stylish, but not overpriced. And if they were overpriced, the price quickly changes. Due to his background (read on) he often wears a black dress shirt with a white collar.

Personality: Reticent, intelligent, charismatic. Nikolai exploits these qualities within himself to no end as the Co-Commander of his branch of the Mafia. It is with pride that he wears the title, and it is with pride that he looks upon each and every person under his command. It is with no less respect that they look upon him. Though some call him ruthless, willing to deal out death as though feeding soup to the hungry, they also know him to be wise, having calculated every step of his plans long before they began. He places a great deal of faith in his subordinates, so much so that Katya warns him of being reckless – but he is never let down.

Nikolai also has a mind that is as sharp as the daggers he carries with him. He loves to play mind games, for he prefers words to weapons. He is, however, an excellent shot, though he fires his weapon as little as possible. If he must use a weapon, he usually prefers a dagger, though he realizes that against a pistol such things are useless.

The God of Death is a surprisingly warm person, with compassion for everyone close to him – especially his sister. He knows each and every one of his officers by name, and many of his soldiers. However, he is only as compassionate as his job allows. Failure is never an option, and few of his men get more than a second chance. His compassion also stems from being an ordained minister. This position also gives him the nickname “Father Nikolai” and various others – whenever he assassinates someone himself, he blesses them either before or after the job, and says a prayer for forgiveness.

History: Nikolai was born into a wealthy, aristocratic family in Russia – one of the leading Families in the Russian Mafia. He, with his little sister trailing right behind him, was brought up to be a refined, respectable aristocrat. Thus, from an early age he was educated in diction, posture, poise, and etiquette. In addition, he learned to play the piano from a renowned pianist, and took to it very quickly. Similarly, his sister took up the violin.

The two learned English at an early age – their parents knew it would be crucial to future negotiations. They also picked up many local dialects, as they went with their parents to as many meetings as was safe. Besides this, they were also formally educated in German and Italian – preparation for future mob dealings. Besides this, they were privately tutored in mathematics, history, business, and the art of assassination.

In his teen years, Nikolai took a correspondence course to become ordained as a minister of the Episcopal Church, mainly to spite his parents who were Russian Orthodox Catholics. Though his sister thought it hilarious, his parents were furious when they found out. However, they said nothing – after all, he was still quite loyal to the family, and that’s what mattered.

Not long after came rumors of an uprising. There was great discontent among the lower classes in Russia, and the Vostrikovs knew that it would not be safe for rich aristocrats like them to remain. So, they, along with almost all of the Mafia leaders still in Russia, packed up and moved to Switzerland.

Upon Nikolai’s 20th birthday, it was decided that he should begin to learn the trade, and so he – along with his sister, after much stubborn arguing and threatening – went to America, accompanied by the veterans in Branch 7. They first settled in New York for two years, and set up or took control of many profitable gambling rings and speakeasies. However, Nikolai and his sister, who had by then already acquired their titles, heard that there was more action to be had in Chicago. Thus, they arranged for a small group to remain behind to keep order, and moved their base-camp just outside the Chicago city limits.

There, progress was much slower – there was already a much stronger mob influence, and they were new in town. So, they took a different approach, methodically and silently began to take control of the local police force. This was mainly achieved not through bribes, but through forcing key police officials into debt of the Mafia. Most of the circumstances in which this debt was incurred were faked (gambling scams, hired “assassins”, and so on), but the victims would never find out and would always be in debt.

It was only until they’d built up a fairly large fund from their New York ventures, and had nearly a fourth of the police force under their control that the couple began to look towards the speakeasies and make their presence known to the local Mafias. It was, however, with a feigned hesitance – they had no intentions of letting word of their dealings with the police become public.

Name: Katya “Angel of Death” Vostrikov
Age: 24
Occupation: Co-Commander, Branch 7, Russian Mafia
Alliance: Brother Nikolai; Russian Mafia
Items: Snub-nosed revolver, thigh holster (when wearing a dress; concealed under jacket if applicable); two long daggers

Physical Description: Katya is as pretty as her brother is handsome, and is at least as intense. She is rather short, but carries herself confidently. Her eyes are every bit as blue as her brother’s, but her long, vaguely curly hair is much closer to blond than brown. Though she can be serious when she wants to, she always wears a playful smile that eternally hides what she is thinking about – the only person who could ever figure that out is her brother.

Though Katya listens to her brother on nearly every other subject, she disagrees with him when it comes to clothes. She favors beautiful clothes of unquestionably high quality, regardless of price. She favors long skirts or dresses that speak of aristocracy – none of the “flappyness” of popular American fashion. She is also not opposed to wearing pants, though she generally prefers not to unless needed.

Personality: Katya is a surprisingly bubbly young lady, who always seems to be content and happy with life. If any of her targets survived, they might comment that she seemed almost in love with them, up until the moment she killed them. This warmth and happiness is where the “Angel” part of her nickname comes from. The “Death” part, as also for her brother, comes from her being extremely skilled in the art of killing, turning it almost into an art. Like her brother, she never leaves a sign that could trace the murder back to her, many times even choosing to make it look like an accident.

Besides this, Katya really is quite happy with her life. However, she has grown to distrust most people until they have successfully earned her trust – a process which generally takes a long time. Nikolai respects this, and thus they agreed to have only one trusted lieutenant – a man named Vasily Matrovska. Besides Nikolai and Matrovska, there are perhaps ten people in whom Katya truly trusts – two of which are her parents.

Though she may not fully trust everyone, she does treat almost everyone with equal respect, or at least it seems that way. Even her victims would say that she was very nice and polite, had they survived. She is the type to hand out money to homeless she passes on the street, though Nikolai often chides her for doing so (“Give it to homeless charities, it’ll help them better. Otherwise, you see, they will likely waste it on alcohol and never make it back up from the gutter, God bless the poor fools”).

History: None specifically :P see Nikolai’s

Other Information: Branch 7, the division of the mafia that Katya and Nikolai jointly control, is nicknamed “The Lucky Sevens,” because they rarely lose men in combat, and are generally one of the most successful divisions.

The daggers that the two carry with them symbolize their close bond and partnership. They had them forged by hand to commemorate a particularly cunning victory in France just before the Great Depression hit the world.

From nearly the moment Katya was born, she and Nikolai were inseparable. He took an immediate liking to her, and watched over her with the love and protection only a brother could provide.
