General storming promptly hung up when Briant said he had no questions. She sneezed suddenly, and then nibbled some breakfast while she looked over her paperwork. She heard the door pen and recognized the sound of Leon's footsteps.

"How am I ever to hope to learn Palauan if I don't get to speak it?" Elaina asked turning toward him as he walked on to the balcony. "Hmm... you're wearing a coat. Cold? Everything is well. I'll be making my rounds as soon as I finish my paperwork. You're excused." She poured herself a cup of tea, and began shoveling sugar into it. She took a sip and tried to focus on what she needed to get done, but found that she was rather preoccupied.

Elaina felt a little uneasy about the recent breach in security, and wondered how many other moles were hiding right under their noses. She would have to take a closer look their own troops on Amra to make sure they were true. She new that those who worked closest to her were loyal, and most of them were in her debt, much like Kamil and Leon. However, she might just have to do a little investigation and weed out those who didn't belong before they could cause any damage.

Leon shrugged. "If that is what you wish, I will talk with you in my native language from now on." He observed with a small smile her morning ritual, drinking highly-sugared tea, which he recalled Kamil calling a 'heart attack in a cup.' "Yes, it seems quite cold to me here. I have still not gotten used to being away from Palau's tropical climate."

She looked busy, and pensive, and so he decided to leave it at that. He bowed, then left her room, going down the hall and around the corner to, well, wait. And perhaps do some thinking of his own.

OOC:REVIVAL!!!!

Hawkes sat in the cockpit, flipping switches and turning knobs to prepare for takeoff.

"Engines...running, thank god," he muttered under his breath as he went along, "Defensive systems, active; stealth systems, on standby; hyperdrive generator, running normal..." Hawkes quickly examined several other readouts around the cabin, and nodded, satisfied. Klos entered the cockpit and tapped his foot impatiently.

"Is it possible for you to take any longer?" he huffed, annoyed at the delay. Klos had been the first one aboard the ship, even though Hawkes had been packed before him. He had been checking the supplies whilst he waited for Hawkes to sanction the ship as worthy. Hawkes glared at Klos for a few moments before answering.

"No sir," Hawkes shot back, "Unless next time you want to crash land on a asteroid, or an uncharted planet, or fly straight into a goddamn supernova, just let me do my job!" Klos turned up his nose to this and exited the cockpit. Hawkes smirked at this, feeling he had got the best of his "superior" officer. He reached down and grabbed the ship's comlink.

"Buckle up, guys, we're heading out!"

And with that, the fearless pilot activated the thrusters and lifted the landing gear. The ship hovered off the ground as the docking bay doors opened. After they did, Hawkes expertly guided his craft through them, up through the atmosphere and then into the infinite blackness of space.

At the target base, another outside party had already landed. Brown boots thumped against the steel floor as a cloak fluidly drifted directly behind them. The bounty hunter strode down the walkway with clear purpose, already noticing the entrance he wanted. The guards that were standing by the entrance turned to regard this strange man marching towards them. One had the misfortune to regard him as a threat and take him down. The other, slightly more worldly one had already recognized the one called "The Ghost" and refused to move. The unlucky soldier, however, had already taken aim with his rifle and was about to request the man freeze in position when suddenly he made eye contact with the stranger. His heart froze in his chest as he was suddenly filled with an irrational fear of this smiling gentleman. In an act of sheer will against the magic (for it was magical fear), the soldier pulled the trigger and a laser blast lanced toward the man. Without even flinching, the man continued moving forward as the red bolt was absorbed by a blue, bubble-like shield surrounding him. The poor guard was still frozen as the man walked past, unable to really even feel the blade of the knife that had been jabbed through his chest. As he collapsed the the ground, the soldier wondered why there was a strange warmth by his heart. Blackness mercifully enclosed him before he really recognized he had been stabbed. The other soldier saluted the bounty hunter, hoping that such a fate would not be in store for him.

Arkus, whose smile hadn't left his face during the brief conflict, tipped his hat to the wiser guard.

"If you get the chance, go ahead and take him to the sickbay," Arkus remarked casually as he turned to leave, "I didn't kill him this time." The soldier nodded nervously, and then went to the aid of his companion. Arkus chuckled as he made his way towards the head officer's quarters. He needed to find this Briant and make sure he was aware of the troublesome guests he was soon to host.

Touching down well outside of the sensor arrays for the fortress, Hawkes' breathed a sigh of relief as no short range fighters came from base. Satisfied the cloaking mechanism was working fine, he headed down to the situation room, where Akari was to brief the others on the base layout and the plan of attack.

OOC:Dan, you're up next, and you lead the meeting. Assume all but Hawkes are there when you begin, and then you have permission to control him entering late and etc.

OOC: Well here goes...

Akari had, in fact, already begun the briefing as Hawkes managed their descent. Doubts about his knowledge of the plan didn't plague her in the slightest. For that matter, with such a small crew any briefing additional to the ones they'd had in the planning stages of the mission seemed repetitive and generally unnecessary. Still, she herself was beginning to feel her nerves begin to nag at her, and knew that the the proper protocol was to make sure everyone was on the same page.

"... and you all, I'm sure, are quite aware of the risks and what's on the line," the Xarian was saying when she noticed Hawkes entering the room. "We're deep in the heart of the enemy, now. Remember, just in and out -- no heroics. Now that our fearless pilot has joined us, we should be ready to get started -- the sooner the better. Any questions?"

---

"Honestly, Flannel, it's a simple TPS report," said Briant, tossing a stack of papers down onto his desk, visibly startling the man on the other side. Lieutenant Colonel Briant had been moved into his new office for barely two days and he was apparently already finding problems with his staff. "You should be able to do these by now. You're, what, a First Lieutenant? I mean, come on! Unless Jen made a mistake in selecting my essential personnel -- and Jen does not make mistakes -- that's why I haven't fired her yet, unlike some other slobs -- unless she made a mistake --"

"I'm a Captain," the man began indignantly, though it was clearly an effort for him to speak at all. "And my name is Flamel. With an 'M.' As in 'Military.'" Flamel was clearly losing steam by this point under Briant's heavy, unimpressed gaze. "As in... officers should show each other proper respect... sir."

"How about 'M' as in 'Martyr,'" Briant retorted after giving the captain a long moment to swallow nervously. Sometimes, silence was very effective. Only sometimes, though -- especially for Colonel Briant. Chewing people out was simply more fun. "Martyr, as in, don't interrupt me again or I'll fire you so fast your captain's bars will melt right through your uniform. I'll write you up so quick --"

"Sir," Captain Viev interrupted almost nonchalantly as she opened the door to Briant's office without even really knocking. "Reports are in that one Arkus Rufo has made his way into the compound, injuring a guard in the process."

"Arkus Rufo... As in --"

"Yes, sir, the bounty hunter." While her tone remained flat and business-like as always, there was a hint of poison inflected into those last two words.

"Why would he --"

"I received word from General Storming's people that he would be working with us on this... project."

"And you didn't --"

"I was going to brief you before he arrived. Unfortunately, his entrance caused quite a bit more paperwork than expected."

"Yes, that injury will be.... I want you to --"

"Things are under way, sir. If there is nothing else, I will send Mr. Rufo in here when he arrives." Viev hesitated for only a second, apparently reading a slight twitch of Briant's eyebrow as a "No, good work" before stepping back through the doorway and closing the door behind her. Captain Flamel looked after her with a look of open wonder. Having seen her interact with the Colonel before, he'd hoped that being stern and forceful would help him out. Needless to say, trying to imitate Briant's secretary had only made things turn out worse for him. Briant had never threatened to fire him quite so quick before.

"You should be more like her," Briant said, straightening up the stack of papers he'd tossed on his desk earlier before tossing it in a waste bin. "Just do me a favor and skip the skirt. It wouldn't suit you." After a brief pause -- in which, judging by his disgusted facial expression, he had just imagined Captain Flamel wearing a skirt -- he added, "You're dismissed."

"Sir?"

"You're dismissed, get out of here. Have the correctly done forms to me in an hour, or I'll have to start filling out the 'martyr' forms for you."

"Th-thank you sir," the captain practically shouted before turning tail and fleeing from Briant's office.

Colonel Briant leaned back in his big chair, lacing his fingers together. "Arkus Rufo," Briant mused, tapping his thumbs together as he looked blankly at a painting on the far wall of his office. "There is a man I hope not to have to criticize."

OOC:Yay!! Lightwing!!

Elaina barely noticed Leon leave. It was almost eerie how he could sneak up on her sometimes, but he was better about making his presence known when he entered a room or he simply didn't bother her when she was busy with her own business. If there was trouble, and there never was anymore, he would be with her before she could open her mouth to call for him. Though she would certainly be more than capable of protecting herself, if any sort of excitement should occur. The probability of a dangerous situation was small, Amra had been incredibly peaceful and there hadn't been an assassination attempt in months.

She knew that there were plenty in the Empire who found her choice of assistants and bodyguards unorthodox and unsafe, but she stood by her choices. Race didn't matter to the General, competence and loyalty did, and there were far too many Tierisians in the military who lacked both qualities she required. Her council was made up of Tiersians and Amrans she deemed fit to aid her in overseeing the economic growth of the fruitful little planet. She held most of those she had hired in high esteem, especially those closer to her, namely the overthrown prince and the gladiator.

Leon had already proven himself useful as a guide, adviser, translator and teacher a hundred times over thus far. He also helped gain a small amount of trust in the people of Amra. She was well aware that he put in a good word for her every chance he got, which meant more to her than she would ever admit to anyone. His mercy and ability to forgive Elaina after all she had done to his home and his family touched her. It took a strong man to get revenge on another who wronged him, but a stronger man to forgive. Azhar's late father and elder brother had been incredibly helpful to the Empire during the invasion of Amra, and reported directly to the general, and they had paid the highest price any officer could for the Empire's success. When she had heard about Azhar's younger son in the Gladiator Ring and his success as a warrior, she had to see for herself, and like his father and brother, he didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, his mother had been a rebel, the brief war had torn so many families apart, and he was caught visiting with her, fraternizing with the enemy. After extensive interrogations and mountains of paperwork, she managed to employ him. She hadn't regretted it so far. He took his job seriously, but he didn't get in her way like some of the over zealous bodyguards she had had in the past.

The sun was climbing higher in the sky where a few cheerful puffy white clouds hung. It would be a pleasant day. With a sigh, she placed her pen against the document that would approve the new export system, and signed her name in thin, slanted handwriting and closed the folder. It would have to be sent to the Emperor to get his final word on the deal, but she was confident he would approve. Amra was flourishing and was providing the Empire with many precious resources. If things went well, she would be able to direct more funds toward improving housing and public schools. She checked her small computer. There was a meeting at sixteen-hundred that afternoon. She would have to make sure she was back at the palace in time for that.

The General drained the last of her tea and forced down her eggs and toast, despite her lack of hunger. After slipping into her light blue jacket and fastening the clip on the collar, she grabbed her black beret off the hat rack as she stepped out of her room. Her boots made little noise as she walked down the hall toward the corner where the massive, dark-skinned body guard was all bundled up to ward off the non-existent chill.

"I am ready to go," Elaina informed him in Palauan, checking the time. Kamil wasn't there yet but she was a minute early, so he had about fifty-six seconds. "Bother..." She had to go inspect one of the new mines that morning, which meant she had an easy-going day for once. It was strange, she would have to find something to keep her busy. She glanced at the time thirty-two seconds.

The frightened captain ran out of Colonel Briant's office, straight towards the incoming bounty hunter. Arkus never cared much for Valkier's soldiers. Needless to say, this dislike manifested in a hefty shove for the poor, bewildered Captain Flamel into the wall as he passed by. Without so much as a second thought for the captain, Arkus strode boldly into Briant's room. Deliberately disrespecting the man's clear obsession with neatness, Arkus walked straight up to the chair on the other side of the desk from Briant, threw himself down in it, and promptly slammed his boots up on the desk itself, knocking several papers askew. A smile played about his lips as he watched the colonel intently, trying to get a measure of the man in front of him. It had been many years since he last had seen Christopher Briant, and clearly the time had been well spent.

"Well, well. Lieutenant Colonel, now, is it?" Arkus said after a moment. "Keep this up, and you'll be on your way to giving ol' Stormcloud some orders for once. I think it'd be good to knock her off that high horse, don't you think?" In truth, Arkus found the general the most intriguing of all of Valkier's lackey's, and one of about twenty that still had a spine. He lamented the fact that he had somehow managed to irk the general enough to get him cut out of the Imperial chatter loop. Before that, it had been so much more lucrative to pull jobs out of the troubles that came from rebelling worlds. Now, he had to rely on his slimy insiders like Silk to even come close to a good job.

"So why are we even out here at this pathetic little outpost?" Arkus asked cautiously. He needed more information than what that greaseball Silk had given him, but he didn't want Briant knowing what he already had guessed. "Last I recall, this was simply a storage facility for building plans." Actually, Arkus was lying a little bit, he knew that this base housed several important blueprints for weapons factories and power plants that kept the empire strong. However, what he didn't know was what necessitated the amount of protection this station was currently receiving, and why it all seemed to be housed in secret. This base was a carefully guarded secret among the upper brass of the army, and he wanted to know why it was even considered to be under threat.

Hawkes gave a cocky grin and drew out his pistol. Twirling it around his finger a few times before returning it to his holster, he caught a look from Klos that clearly said "Don't screw this up."

"Alright then," Klos said, "It's time to move out. The base is less than a mile north of this position, but we won't have registered on their scanners thanks to the updated stealth systems. They'll have no idea that we're coming, but that's no reason to get careless. Remember, it only takes one guard to alert all the others. Don't be seen, and shoot only if you have too. Nothing attracts unwanted attention like a dead body. Also I think that-"

"Ah, come on!" Hawkes interjected irritably. "We get it already, let's just make for the damn sewer entrance outside the south gate, and get inside and get the plans!" Klos turned scarlet at being interrupted, but merely nodded grudgingly. Then, beckoning the others, set off for the only undetectable way into the fort.
