OOC: Is anyone interested in Harry Potter still? I dunno, I just randomly felt like roleplaying HP. This is continued from our last one.

The twinkling stars in the clear night sky shown through the bewitched ceiling on the Great Hall of Hogwarts castle as the Sorting ceremony was finally completed. It seemed as though nearly half of the students in the hall sported a strange burn mark on their foreheads, which spelled out "OOPS." The normal hum of conversation was a roar this night, as it was clear that someone had sprung the largest prank the school had seen in years -- and before the year even started! Theories ran wild: from a graduate from last year come back for one last hurrah, to even dark wizards, nobody quite knew the cause. But, everybody was eager to share their thoughts. The one common thread was that nobody seemed to be taking credit; McGonagall's lips were pursed extra tight, and Snape appeared to be assessing every student, as though his gaze alone would identify the trickster and burn them to a crisp.

A tall, youthful wizard that Felix didn't recognize sat between Professor McGonagall and a young witch was also a strange to Felix, and appeared to be enjoying an animated conversation with the latter. Though Artemis occasionally glanced at McGonagall, as though hoping she would join the conversation as well, the head of Gryffindor house was apparently determined not to speak to anyone, except for an occasional word with Dumbledore.

Felix Nash was also deep in conversation, signing with his sister. The three new teachers at the staff table kept stealing his attention -- he had a weird feeling in his gut about them that he couldn't quite place -- and he struggled to focus his attention on reading his sister's lips.

"You don't suppose one of they did it, do you?" he signed suddenly, vaguely aware that he was interrupting Elayne.

"Oh, don't be silly!" Elayne signed as she spoke, more out of habit than necessity. Though they usually signed to communicate, as it seemed more secretive -- Elayne loved secrets -- she was excited enough, and the hall was noisy enough, that she spoke without realizing it any more than she realized she was signing. "That... Morrighan, Professor Morrighan. She was helping us, remember? What kind of prankster would willingly ruin their own prank?"

"The best kind," Felix replied distractedly. It looked like Dumbledore was about to speak, and Felix always enjoyed his speeches. He had missed the first speech he'd attended, as he ended up sitting on nearly the opposite end of the hall and nobody transcribed it for him. But, when his sister translated it to sign for him the next year, his respect for Dumbledore's speeches went through the enchanted roof and into the sky, so to speak. After that, he made it a point to find a spot at the Ravenclaw table where he could read Dumbledore's lips properly, so he wouldn't have to wait for a translation.

Dumbledore stood up, and the hall went silent, all eyes swiveling to him eagerly.

"Everyone, it is truely a pleasure to see you all here, old and new, and even young! I hope you have all come with your minds and stomachs suitably emptied, for this year we shall fill your heads with knowledge, and tonight we shall fill your tummies with food. In a moment I shall demand that you all enjoy the delicious feast prepared for you all, but first I have a few announcements.

"As you all know, Professor Nynee" -- a few people around the hall whispered "Ninny," the nickname many students adopted for him, and many stifled giggles -- "retired from his Defense Against the Dark Arts post last year, and with him went our Dueling Club sponsor. Also, of course, our beloved charms teacher of so many years, Professor Flitwick, has also retired. So, this year I am pleased to introduce three new members of the staff. Some of you may remember Artemis Burton, he graduated not long ago, and is now to be your new Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor. I will remind you that he is a Professor, and a qualified one at that. He has informed me that he will no longer be Prank King of Hogwarts, and I ask you all to respect that by not challenging this throne. For the sake of a few who were against his return" -- Felix glanced at Snape and thought he saw a look of recognition in the Potions Master's eye -- "I have his word and signature that no pranks within Hogwarts grounds will be his doing. Of course, if you didn't know Professor Burton, then you shall have nothing to concern you. The next, of course, is the respected Professor Morrighan, who will be your Dueling Club sponsor this year. Announcements will be posted in the dormitories with sign up information. Last, and by no means least, is Professor Sophie Tenamortri. As a matter of fact, some of you may recognize all three of these new professors. There was a time not long ago when they all sat where you are sitting now. I hope you treat them with as much respect as any other professor here."

"My last announcement is that any with those unfortunate marks on their foreheads should please see Madam Pomfrey tomorrow when you have a break after classes. Tonight you must see your prefects to get into your dorms to enjoy a lovely sleep after this lovely meal.

"Now, that should be more than enough announcements for a while, so I must insist that you all enjoy." With that said, Dumbledore raised his hands in a gesture of welcome and the golden plates filled with all sorts of tasty treats, and everyone began to dig in.

OOC: Woops, forgot that Christine's supposed to be playing McGonagall. Ah, I don't feel like removing it. If you actually post here, Christine, you can change anything with your post if you like.

Edited because I forgot about Mo! Sorry Mo!

OOC:OOC: Um, yes!! :D I miss RP'ing with you guys so much~ I really wanna get back into this RP, but it's been so long that I don't remember quite a bit of characterization, etc... it'll all come back to me eventually... >_<

Morrighan Hennessey bowed when her name was called, then sat back down. "It's nice to be back, huh?" She said with a happy smile on her face to her two comrades. She had a smirk on her face as she thought, As for this prank, it's gotta be Prank King Artemis going out with a bang... one last hurrah, or something. If not, then... I have no clue who it is!

She dug into the plate of food before her with gusto. "Green beans're as amazing as I remember them being." They were always Miles's favorite, she thought, with a tinge of sadness.
One bean sticking out sideways from her mouth, she asked, "So how've you two been? Whatcha been up to?"

-

Patrick was up to his neck in stupid first-years with OOPS on their forehead. And they wouldn't shut up about it.
"Prefect, my forehead itches!"
"Prefect, they're staring at me!"
"Prefect, can't I go to the Nurse sooner? This is embarrassing!"
"PREFECT!!"

He sighed, and flung his fork filled with mashed potatoes back on his plate. "I'm sorry, you'll just have to wait," he said calmly and slowly. "Until the time Professor Dumbledore appointed for all of you. Until then, cover it with a Band-Aid or something."

He sighed. "I wouldn't worry too much, there are a lot of people with the marks just like you," he assured them. They filed back to their seats and sat back down, getting back to a semblance of a normal meal.

Patrick shook more salt on his mashed potatoes, then resumed eating. Peace, for now, he thought, with a small smile.

OOC:Hogwarts is, for the both of them, more of a traditional, "normal" family experience than what they get at home... probably why they love it so much there.

OOC: Well I thought Mo was gonna post, but I guess I'll just go ahead and throw something up for now and pretend like this place isn't gasping for life again >.>

"I think it's not so much that we're back, but that we're back as teachers," Artemis suggested playfully before stuffing a rather large slice of ham into his mouth. Even with his cheeks full of delicious food, he wore a wide smile that could have suggested either a contended happiness or planned mischief. With Artemis, the two emotions were very hard to differentiate.

"I have been fantastic, to tell you the truth," he continued. "Though I haven't eaten this well since the last time I was here, I've been all over the world. Sometimes the Ministry had a hand in what I did, and sometimes it didn't. How 'bout you, Morry? Soph'?"

-

Unlike Patrick, Felix had made a point of obscuring his Prefect badge at the table for precisely the reason that was bothering Patrick. When the meal was over, he would certainly take up his role as Prefect, but until then he saw no reason to draw attention to himself. He always preferred peaceful meals, after all. Elayne had obviously noticed her brother's decision, and glanced from him to Patrick with a look of frustration. She was torn between thinking he should be doing his duties as a Prefect, and thinking Patrick's troubles were really funny. She struggled not to laugh, as she was pretty sure that would encourage Felix to keep avoiding his badge.

"Erhem, having fun Patrick?" she asked, stifling a grin.

OOC: I think Artemis was big on nicknames... it's been a while >.>

OOC:I'll see about posting/checking tomm, but I will probably be too tired, same with Sunday @__@;; I'm going to be a juror for law students~

"Yeah, really," Morrighan laughed, smiling. "It's great to be a the top of the pile this time!" She thought for a moment before continuing. "I've been doing much the same as you, I suppose, going lots of places and doing lots of things. But... the Ministry pretty much told me what to do. I had one of those kind of jobs." She stabbed at her ham lazily. "This, though, was my own idea. I need a year or so off, badly... They were kind enough to understand, fortunately."

-

Patrick's eye twitched comically, the only visible sign of him barely keeping in his temper. "Why yes, yes I am," he said over-seriously. He dug back into his mashed potatoes.

OOC: Where'd you go, Mo? I thought you were going to post here :(

Artemis chuckled, idly sliding his peas around his plate. He hated the things, but they had found their way onto his plate before he realized it, and by then it was too late to do anything. Besides that, he'd already eaten enough of the main course, and was anxiously awaiting dessert -- the most important part of the meal, as far as Artemis was concerned. "And by 'understand' you mean that you strong armed them into letting you do it, right?"

-

Though he hadn't seen his sister's question, Patrick's response was vocal enough for him to catch the mood of it. He stifled his chuckle when Elayne elbowed him sharply in the ribs, and contented himself with a satisfied grin as he forked another slice of roast beef into has mouth. Elayne offered him a rather crooked frown that she hoped would pass for disapproval -- she was having only slightly less trouble than her brother with looking unamused at Patrick's plight.

"Look kids, Dumbledore already explained that nothing can be done for now, alright?" Elayne said at last, brandishing her spoon as though she would jinx them with it if they didn't leave. "Leave the Prefects alone!" Felix caught her eye and his grin twitched just a bit larger. Elayne's disapproving frown cracked into a matching grin for just a split second, but it was enough for Felix to know that she was thinking what he was thinking. "Go bother the Head Boy and Girl about it!" When realization dawned on the first years' faces, Elayne and Felix pointed them out for them, and they rushed off. Elayne giggled slightly when they were out of earshot. Felix, however, schooled his face to a disapproving glare to best hers.

"What?" she asked indignantly, only half-sure that her brother was joking. "I was helping Patrick, right Patrick?"
